Milori woke up abruptly, a blood curdling scream escaping his throat; he began to tremble as he could vividly recall every single detail of his nightmare. He tried to slow down his panicked breathing and he quickly scrambled to his feet, leaning on a tree for support. He had a terrible migraine and rubbed his temples, he looked up into the sky and he soon realized what time it seemed to be.
When he left Dewey it was nearly dawn and he must have slept the entire day away; it was nearly sunset. Milori became confused but he realized he was deep in winter and was in a forest; he awoke under a large tree and realized since he had been unconscious in the snow the entire day that it wasn't odd that no one noticed him.
He then realized that if he left immediately he could make it to the border although he would be arriving late; he shot off as fast as he could to the border. He needed to make sure that Clarion was all right, he needed to know that his nightmare was just a dream and that nothing had happened to her.
His nightmare played over and over again in his mind on his flight to the border. The image of Alistair slitting Clarion's throat and her dying was now burned into his mind and he knew he would never be able to forget that image; it would always haunt him.
Clarion was growing rather impatient; she had been at the border for a while and there was still no sign of her winter sparrow man. She sighed and began pacing, she was terrified that something had happened to him; he was never late meeting her at the border.
A few moments later she heard the wind begin to pick up, she turned around and saw Milori flying at full speed towards her. Her heart jumped in her chest and she gasped; he looked all right, she took a deep breath, finally being able to calm down a little bit.
He landed in front of her and quickly grabbed her upper arms and forcefully pulled her into a loving embrace. As soon as she was in his arms he let out a relieved sigh and ran his hand over her hair. Clarion pulled out of the embrace to gaze into his loving brown eyes; he seemed distraught and she could see tears in the brim of his eyes.
She wondered what he was upset about. She eyed him curiously and leaned into him, kissing him passionately. They broke apart from their kiss and she leaned her forehead onto his; he caressed her cheek.
"I'm so relieved that you're all right, love." Clarion pulled back and her eyebrows rose in surprise.
"Why wouldn't I be all right?" she asked curiously. Milori gazed down at his feet and then back to her; he shifted his weight and sighed running his hand through his hair. Clarion could tell something was weighing heavily on his mind.
"I- I just had a terrible nightmare and it seemed so real. I just needed to make sure that you were all right." He leaned closer to her and kissed her again. "I love you so much." He inhaled the scent of her hair and pulled her into another tight embrace.
"Oh, you don't need to worry Milori, I'm quite all right. Are you?" she asked cautiously. She had felt as though he was in danger and it was something she couldn't dismiss. The feeling was so strong and it coursed through her and she knew that she had to trust her instincts.
"I'm all right now, love. I'll always be fine when you are in my arms." he whispered sweetly.
"Now?" she asked. Had he not been all right before? Her breathing quickened as she started to imagine the worst. Milori's jaw dropped as he realized that he hadn't worded what he said in the best way; he had startled her.
"Yes, I don't want you to worry or anything but I was visited by one of Alistair's demons last night." he said trying to keep his tone of voice calm and nonchalant so she wouldn't overreact.
"Oh my god," she breathed out, a hand covering her mouth in shock.
"Clarion, it's fine, I am fine." he reassured her, grabbing her hand that covered her mouth and began to caress it lovingly with his thumb.
"What happened?" she whispered as she tried to hold back her tears.
"I visited the Keeper after I left you last night, and we did some research. After I left, I was on my way home when I noticed I was being followed by a dark shadow and knew that it had to be one of Alistiar's demons. I tried to get away, but I wasn't fast enough. I got knocked out and that's when I had my nightmare." Milori's voice trailed off.
Clarion gasped in horror, she was shaking; she wanted nothing more than to protect the love of her life but it seemed that no matter what she did, he was still a target and she was powerless to do anything to keep him from harm. She let out a defeated sigh and wiped a tear out of the corner of her eye.
"Thank god you're all right, I don't know what I would do if anything ever happens to you.." her voice trailed off.
"I know, I feel the same way. You are the only thing that matters to me." he whispered as he pulled her in for a intense kiss.
"ENOUGH!" shouted Alistair. He let out a disgusted sigh and rolled his eyes. He was beginning to feel very nauseous as he watched Clarion and Milori. He was pleased that his demon had given Milori a lovely dream to fret over, little did he know that his dream would soon become a reality, maybe not in the same way but it would come to pass.
Alistair knew that even though Milori was another obstacle to overcome in his quest to conquer Clarion, it was one he deemed achievable. Milori would be useful in his destruction of Clarion and he knew that the only one that could stop him was Clarion but he knew he would be victorious; he had to be patient.
"God, those two fairies are going to drive me crazy!" he shouted to himself. Watching them fawn all over each other, professing their love and all that nonsense drove Alistair mad; he couldn't stand to watch it anymore.
"Time for some more fun!" he said to himself, as he let out a shrill laugh. Alistair's most trusted demon flew over to him, awaiting a command. He waved his hand at the demon in a disinterested manner.
"No. I won't be needing you. I'm the one who is going to have some fun.." he said as he rose up out of his chair and flew off towards the border.
Clarion and Milori spent most of their time together at the border in each other's arms, they were both quiet. They didn't need to speak, being in each other's arms was the best thing for both of them.
Clarion was enjoying the silence and being in Milori's strong arms; her mind began to wander. She began to replay her conversation with Milori, she hadn't pushed the matter earlier but she desperately wanted to know what his nightmare was about. She was hesitant to ask him when he first spoke of it, she figured he wouldn't share it with her. She had refused to show him the marks on her throat, so how could she expect him to openly discuss something that had terrified him to his core; she sighed in frustration.
"What is it, dear?" he asked. Clarion couldn't help the small smile that crept up on her, she didn't even say anything yet but he knew that she wanted to.
"I know that I don't have any right to ask, but.." her voice trailed off. She began to regret her decision to ask Milori; she didn't want this resulting in another argument. They were both too stubborn for their own good. Clarion was lost in thought when she felt Milori cup his hand on her cheek and turn her head to face him. He kissed her.
"You can ask my anything, love." he whispered. She smiled to him and took a deep breath.
"Will you tell me what your nightmare was about?" she whispered so low he could barely hear her. He cringed at replaying the memory in his mind. Clarion pulled away from him, she assumed he cringed because she had asked him to share something uncomfortable with her; she had refused to do the exact same thing the night before.
"Never mind. Forget that I said anything." She quickly got to her feet and put her arms around her waist. Milori was instantly on his feet and grabbed her hands from around her waist and held them against his chest.
"Clarion," he began. She shook her head at him, cutting him off.
"I know that I don't have any right to ask that of you. I wouldn't share what happened to me with you so I don't expect you to-" Clarion was cut off as Milori grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her to him. He kissed her with uncontrollable fervor, she wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her closer, their bodies pressed together, both of them lost in each other. He released her from his intimate hold and she was gasping for air; he smiled at her.
"I love you more than anything, Clarion. I don't want us to have to keep things from each other or push each other away. I want us to be open with each other and know that we can tell each other anything." he said confidently. He knew that their love was strong, their love was eternal and they could handle anything as long as they had each other.
Clarion was shocked at his words. She couldn't believe how amazing he was, he loved her so much; she wasn't sure if she felt worthy of his undying love. She let her tears fall down her cheeks, she cried silently as Milori gathered her in his arms.
"You're too good to me.." she whispered. He let out a light laugh and kissed her. "I would do anything for you, you should know that by now."
"I love you." she stated, her genuine love for him radiating through her captivating gaze.
"My nightmare was.. terrifying, but I want us to deal with things together from now on, so I'll tell you what happened, I -" Milori was cut off as a loud crack of thunder rang out through the night sky. The stars lost their shine and dark clouds began to roll into the sky, the moonlight dimmed and the wind whipped through the air violently. Milori instinctively pulled Clarion closer to him, he wrapped one arm around her waist and the other arm wrapped around her shoulders pulling her as close as she could be; he held her protectively, both of them unaware at what was unfolding before them.
A large cloud of black smoke appeared a few feet away from them and they both became tense and held each other tighter. The black smoke slowly dissipated and Alistair emerged.
"Miss me?" he said with a sinister laugh.
