Alexa POV
In hindsight it probably wasn't the best idea to try and stop the ambulance, since we had no idea if we were on a motor way or not.
Cammie looked around the back to see if there was anything we could fashion into a weapon while I put my ear to the wall and checked how fast we were going. "Fast, we must be on a busy road, stopping now would probably kill us and others in different vehicles." Cammie swore and tipped the gurney upside down.
"The legs of these might work." She suggested, running her hands along where it was screwed together and then along the wheels. "But I don't have anything to unscrew them." I rummaged around in the compartments I could see and the only thing I could find was a couple of pens.
"Try these." She caught the one I threw to her and unscrewed the top, once it was taken apart she untwisted the spring and used it to turn the screw loose on the gurney legs. "Impressive." I whistled, taking the leg from her when she was done with it.
After the remaining legs had been removed we turned to the large padlock that was on the double doors at the back. The first thing we tried to unlock it was a syringe, but it snapped after a couple of violent twists and turns in order to unlock it. When that failed I went back to the compartment and looked around for something else to use while Cammie tried the pen, which failed. I found a pack of safety pins underneath a bandage, I opened the packet and straightened out the pin so the sharp end was pointing towards the lock.
"Let me try this." She stepped aside and allowed me access to the lock just as we felt the ambulance make a sudden stop, we toppled backwards and the syringe smashed as it hit the floor. I groaned when I hit my already bruised head on the floor again and squinted at the light coming from the ceiling. "I think we stopped." I grumbled angrily, pushing myself up onto my elbows as Cammie pulled herself up off of the floor. Offering me a hand. I accepted and we grabbed out weapons, when the doors opened we would be ready.
There was talking from the other side of the wall behind us, where the driver was, it sounded like he or she was on the phone. I pressed my ear to the side and listened impatiently, "got the subjects in the back... bound and gagged... yes I can wait... they aren't exactly going anywhere... didn't put up much of a fight... weak girl... you'll have them delivered asap sir..." I tutted my tongue and saw Cammie look at me as if to say: we'll show you weak girls.
The tapping on the back door made me jump and I turned around, someone was trying to get in. We made our way slowly to the doors, careful not to make a sound and positioned ourselves on either side of the doors, gurney legs at the ready.
Recognition streaked across Cammie's face as we heard the people talking from outside and she only just managed to stop me stabbing Seth in the gut by grabbing my wrist. A very surprised Seth lost his balance as he pulled open on side of the door and he almost fell into Zach.
"Jesus Christ." He said, startled and trying to regain his breath. "You could have killed me." I looked to how close I had gotten to possibly killing my friend and thanked God, if he existed, that Cammie had realised in time.
"Sorry." Was all I said, pulling the thick metal leg back to my side, giving Cammie a thankful glace. She released my wrist and took the hand Zach was offering her to get down, Seth offered me his. I took it and jumped out the back of that stuffy ambulance, so happy for the fresh air we received upon standing on solid ground.
I felt a hand touch the sore bump on the back of my head, I winced and Seth moved his hand back. "Sorry, that looks bad." He commented. I nodded that it was and looked to Zach for the rest of the rescue plan.
"You got a plan?" Cammie asked, reading my mind as she took Zach's hand with her free one. He in turn looked to Seth with a shrug.
"Considering we were actually only, what, like 60% certain you were in the back of the ambulance, our plan only got this far." Zach said guiltily. I rolled my eyes at the same time as Cammie, which made us smirk, which was needed after the day we'd had.
"Okay." Cammie said, looking around and then back to the ambulance. "The driver was just on the phone to someone about delivering me and Alexa to them, not sure who though." Zach sighed through his nose angrily and looked to the house next to us, its curtains were closed but the lights were on.
"What is it?" I asked him, noticing he was looking at me.
"Just as the ambulance parked we saw a man step out the house, I guess he must have gone back inside when we walked back around." He said.
"And? How do you know it was anything to do with us." I said, waiting for him to tell me what was going on.
"Drew Collins." Zach said at last.
"Son of a..." I trailed of, mouth open in annoyed disbelief.
"What happened between you guys?" Cammie questioned. "When we were talking with that doctor Collins he mentioned you stabbed his son in the leg with a letter opener, is that his son?"
Zach snorted as he tried on to laugh. "That's the one, and I only tried to, I didn't actually stab him." I told her as Zach laughed quietly to himself.
"While this is fun, shouldn't we go somewhere before anyone realised these who aren't still bound and gagged?" We all agreed. But where to go? I turned to them and said:
"I don't know about you, but I'd like to go have a word with Drew."
