Chapter 37
I slowly opened my eyes. There was light streaming in through a window that was boarded up. The bed I was lying on was the only thing in the room. I stood up but I felt dizzy. I held my head as I sat back down. I took a deep breath and got up. I tried to use but couldn't. Something was blocking me. The only door to the room was closed. I slowly opened the door, taking my time as I walked out of the room.
The hallway was empty. Down the hall I could see a bathroom and another doorway. I cautiously headed down the hall trying not to make a sound. I looked through the doorway and noticed an empty living room. The windows were boarded up as well. The kitchen and dining room were empty too. I looked around the place but it was completely empty. I tried one more time to use but nothing happen. I walked to the front door but it was locked. I backed away when I heard someone on the other side of the door.
The door open and in walked Liam. I covered my mouth as I gasped. He smiled as he headed to the kitchen. The door was still open. There was nothing but snow from what I could see. Liam waved his hand and the door closed. He was putting groceries away as I entered the kitchen.
"I thought you were dead," I gasped in a shocked voice. I tried to use again but nothing happen. I called out the guys but I didn't hear anything.
"Laura tried but I was able to get away," he replied with a smile. Chase's voice popped into my head. Stay away from Liam. Don't trust him. "Are you thirsty?" he asked opening the fridge. I was confused. I didn't see a fridge in the kitchen earlier.
"No," I answered. "What did you do to me? How did you take my power?" I shook my head trying to clear it. I felt like I was in a fog. "Liam I want to go home." I stepped away but I bumped into something. I turned around and there was table and chairs in the dining room. The living room had furniture. "Where did all this come from?" I asked walking into the living room.
"I couldn't let you live in an empty house," he replied with a chuckle. "That's no way for us to start our life together." His eyes flashed fire and red roses appeared on the coffee table. "I was hoping I would make it back before you woke up. I didn't want you to see our house empty." He walked over to the window and the boards disappeared. They were replaced with light yellow curtains. "Look honey, the snow is falling." He pulled the curtain back to reveal a huge window.
"Liam this isn't my home," I stated backing away from him. I tried to stay calm and not be confrontational. "I'm sorry you went to all this trouble but I don't want my family to worry." He turned to face me with his eyes black.
"You are home," he shouted. I moved away from him stepping into the hallway. So much for staying calm, I ran down the hall and into the room, locking the door. I knew it wouldn't help but I had to try. "Sam honey, I'm sorry." He turned the door knob but stopped when he realized it was locked. "I'll give you a moment to yourself." I heard him walk away from the door.
I felt tears but I pushed them back. I can't cry now, I need to get out of here. The bedroom looked a lot like mine. The bed was the same with a purple comforter. The closet had clothes for me and Liam. I looked at the bed again before it hit me. There was only one room. I opened the curtains but they were still boarded up. The only thought running through my head was I need to get out of here. He's delusional if he thinks I'm going to stay here with him.
I ran to the closet and began looking through the clothes. They were my clothes, the very ones that hung in my closet at Tyler's and Pogue's. Oh God Pogue, he must be going crazy looking for me. I stopped when I reached the jacket I wore to my parents' funeral. Mom and Dad please help me, I begged. I felt something in the pocket of the coat. There was a crystal in the pocket. It looked like one of the crystals we used to bind Gregory and Liam's power. The crystal was warm. How did it get here? I heard the door knob jiggle. I put the crystal back and walked out of the closet.
"I hope you don't mind that I brought some of your clothes from home," Liam was leaning against the door. I closed the closet door and leaned against it. "You don't mind do you?" he asked looking at me. His green eyes flashed fire but they quickly went back to green.
"How did you get into mine and Pogue's apartment?" I asked trying to keep calm. I was angry that he had the nerve to step foot in my apartment and house. After everything he has done to my family.
"He's your past. Don't ever say his name," he snapped. He turned away running his hand through his hair. "He never deserved you." He moved over to the bed. "We were supposed to end up together. But he had to meet you first." He hit the bed post. A piece of it flew off hitting the wall making a hole. I moved towards the door of the room.
"You probably should watch your temper," I said moving towards the small hallway. "Not everything in this place is indestructible." The tension in the air crackled. I looked around but it was just us. "I won't stay here with you, power or no power," I added as I took a step away from him. He looked at me with hurt eyes. "You do realize that my family will be looking for me. They won't give up until they find me. Especially Pogue," I took a big step back when I mentioned Pogue's name. There was another crackle in the air. The tension in the air escalated fast.
"Don't say his name," he shouted as his arm swung out sending an energy blast. I flew backwards hitting the wall. My head bounced off the wall sending a shockwave from my head to my entire body. In that one second I felt everyone. My family was worried, scared and angry. If I felt them, then I know they felt me too.
"Sam," Liam shouted. He was by my side moving my hair out of the way. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to lose my temper." My head was pounding. I moved his hands away from me but he just keep caressing my cheek and kissing my forehead. "Let me check your head." I tried to move his hands away from me, they were covered in blood. He picked me up and held me to his chest as he carried me to the bed.
"Leave me alone," I hissed. The anger I had for him came out at that moment. I pushed him with all my strength. He stumbled backwards. "I trusted you," I yelled making the pounding in my head worse. "Because of you my parents are dead." I felt sick.
I jumped off the bed and ran past him. My balance was off. I hit the walls trying to get in the bathroom. I tried to lock the door but he was right behind me. The pounding in my head was making me nausea. I was leaning over the sink splashing cold water on my face. I could see in the mirror when his eyes turned black. He moved his hand over the back of my head. I felt the skin being pulled together.
"You should take a shower," he suggested as his hand moved down my arm. He smiled and kissed my cheek. I moved away from him. He washed his hands. "The towels are in the cabinet along with shampoo and stuff." He opened the cabinet behind us and took out a hand towel to dry his hands. "Please don't try to leave. I would hate for you to hurt yourself." He moved his thumb over my lips. I brushed his hand away from me.
I walked back to the room and saw the blood on the wall. There was blood on the comforter as well. Head wounds bleed a lot. I opened the closet and grabbed some clothes. I could feel the stickiness of the blood in my hair. I felt violated when I grabbed my undergarments. He went through everything in my rooms.
I turned to leave when I saw a picture of me and Liam. I quickly grabbed the picture to look at it. Damn it. He removed Pogue from the picture and added himself. He's crazy. Altering pictures isn't going to erase what I feel for Pogue. Our love is too strong to erase. I threw the picture down and walked away. I need to get out here fast. His temper will only get worse, I know it will.
I noticed the blood was gone from the walls. Now there were pictures hanging all over the hallway. There was a picture of me and my parents from last Christmas. There was also one of me when I left California to come here. I stopped when I saw the picture I gave the guys. The one of Reid in the tub was gone; it was just a picture of me in the bath and a picture of Liam and me kissing. It was the same thing with the one of Tyler in the pool and Caleb on his father's shoulders. The one of Pogue and me with his bike was altered too. He removed Pogue and placed himself in the picture with me. I took down all the pictures and even the ones in the room. I placed them all in the back of the closet. I didn't want to look at him anymore than I had to.
I could hear him in the kitchen. I locked the door to the bathroom and quickly undressed. I turned the water on. My head was sore from earlier. I sucked up the pain and washed my hair and my body. I could feel a bruise on my shoulder. I turned off the water and grabbed a towel. The door was still locked. I dried up and changed. I found some stuff for my hair and a blow dryer.
I took my time stalling as long as possible. After a while I cautiously opened the bathroom door. I could still hear him in the kitchen. I washed off the blood from Pogue's sweatshirt. I walked down the hall to the bedroom. I hung up the sweatshirt in the back of the closet.
"What are you doing in here?" Liam asked. I screamed turning around. I covered my face after I realized it was him. I felt his hands on my arms. "Sam, I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you." He was rubbing my arms with his thumbs.
"Don't touch me," I said behind my hands. My body was shaking from the adrenaline that was pumping through me. He removed his hands. I took a deep breath and lowered my hands. I took a step away from him.
"Um…I made dinner…are you hungry?" he asked. He took a step towards me. The look in his eyes scared me. I tried to move but I was backed against the wall. "Don't be afraid of me. I would never hurt you." He placed his hands on the sides of my face. He leaned in but I ducked under his arm and walked out of the closet grabbing a jacket.
"The soreness in my head and the bruise on my shoulder would beg to differ," I replied angrily. "I'm not hungry." I put the jacket on headed for the front door. I could hear him behind me. I tried to open the door but it wouldn't budge. "Open the door damn it," I yelled turning around to face him.
He glared at me as his emerald eyes flashed fire before turning black. I glared back at him. He took a step towards me but I stood my ground. He stood over me trying hard to intimidate me with his menacing stare but I wasn't intimated, not for a moment. His eyes flashed fire and I heard the click of the door opening. I walked out the door and heard it close behind me.
I walked through the snow feeling my way around the shield that Liam had around the perimeter of the house. The shimmer from the shield gave off surges of energy. I moved my fingertips along the shield, feeling the power connect with me. It wasn't enough to let me connect with anyone but it brought me some comfort that I could feel the shields power.
I was a bit surprised the shield didn't toss me back or cause me pain. I continued my walk around the perimeter, looking for something or anything to help me. A few drifts of snow began to fall. My hands were freezing but I didn't want to turn back. I felt free for the first time since I woke up. I rubbed my hands together to keep them warm. I felt something in my jacket pockets. I reached inside and pulled out gloves. Liam. I threw them on the ground. The thought of sleeping under the same roof with Liam made my stomach churn. If there was only a way to get a message to the guys or connect with them for a moment or figure a way to get my powers back.
What am I supposed to do if I don't get them back? If Laura's power was bound with mine and I could feel it trying to take over before, now that I can't sense it at all, what's happening to it now? Everything got messed up and I have no one to blame but myself. My brothers, Reid, Gregory and Pogue all asked me to let them in but as usual I tried to take care of it alone. Caleb kept telling me that it wasn't about me anymore; it was about all of us.
A light brown rabbit hopped out from a snow covered bush. I stood perfectly still as I watched him look around and sniff the air. He hopped towards the shield slowly, sniffing the air every few hops. He easily passed through the shield with a loud crackle. I rubbed my hands together and stuck my hand out towards the shield. My hand wouldn't pass through, but I felt when Liam used his powers to track me. Hmm, I could sense Liam because of the shield. I bet he didn't intend for that to happen. I wonder if a normal person without power would have felt it.
I moved around the shield but nothing happen. There must be a way to make the shield surge enough energy to contact my family. When I used protection shields around the houses, they gave off low amount of energy, nothing like this though but there's something he used that I'm not thinking of. The shield felt like it was bending out but there was a spot where it bended in. The contour of the shield was hard to follow. This whole thing was starting to frustrate me. I walked closer to the tree line debating if I should give up when I saw the cottage behind the trees and bushes. There was a light breeze and for a moment I could sense Pogue. It felt like someone punched me in the stomach. Pogue, I miss him so much. My family, I need to see them. I can't give up.
Taking a deep breath and rolling my shoulders, I went back to searching the shield for something that would help me. I stepped back for a better look. The shield shimmered but didn't crackle like before. I moved my hand into the shield and tried a spell, in transmigrationem, et in virtute, et dividant, nothing happen. I tried to push my hand through when I heard a crackle. The brown rabbit from earlier came back through the shield and I felt him. Pogue! Help me! I could feel his heartbeat, his thoughts invaded my mind and I could almost sense where he was but he was just out of my reach. I moved my hand around trying to find anything that would let me connect with him again. Tears were pushing to fall but I needed to concentrate.
There must be something I can use to make the shield crackle again. I looked around but the only things near me were branches and rocks. I grabbed a branch and stuck my hand back into the shield. I held my breath and prayed this would work. I heard a creaking sound but I ignored it. Once the branch hit the shield it crackled and he was there invading my mind and heart. Pogue! I screamed loud in my head. Lil Bit! His voice sent warm vibrations throughout my body. Help me! Liam has me at a cottage. I pictured the cottage hoping he would see it. Something hit the shield knocking the branch out of my hand. I quickly looked around but I was alone.
I took a step over a fallen tree to grab another branch when the tip of my shoe hit the top of a branch, sending me to the ground face first. I stuck out my hands to stop my fall but unfortunately all I was able to do was hurt my wrist. I was able to save my face from hitting the hard ground but the pain that was traveling up my leg, kept me from moving. I bit my lip to keep from crying out in pain. I heard crunching noises. I peek over the tree to see Liam running towards me. Crap! I went back to lying on the ground behind the tree hoping he wouldn't notice me.
"Sam, are you okay?" he asked looking at me from over the tree. Yeah, no such luck.
"I'm fine," I replied as my teeth started to chatter. He moved his hands over me but I hit them away. "Don't touch me." He smirked as his eyes flashed fire. He used to heal my wrist and leg. He pulled me up and kept his arm around my waist. I tried to push him away. "Let me go," I yelled.
"You know I could take you right here, right now," he whispered in a threatening tone. I tried to move away. He licked my ear and bit my ear lobe. "But you would hate me for the rest of your life and I don't want that." He grabbed my chin and made me look at him. "I want you to love me, the way I love you." He leaned down to kiss me but I was able to turn away. He kissed my cheek instead.
"I'll never love you Liam," I snapped harshly with disgust in my voice. "You never stood a chance." I glared at him with such anger that I literally saw red. He smiled at me as he walked us back to the cottage. I was dragging my feet and pushing my body as far away from him as I could.
He didn't say a word as we continued towards the cottage. He lifted me up and carried me over his shoulder. I knew hitting or kicking wouldn't work. He put me down when he carried me into the cottage and used to lock the door. I walked to the room and took my jacket off. When I entered the closet I felt a pull. The crystal was calling to me; it was strong like when my power wants to come out.
"Sam dinner's ready," Liam was standing by the closet door. I hung up my jacket. "You need to eat." He moved my hair away from my face. I pulled away from him. My clothes were wet from the snow.
"I need to change. Please give me some privacy," I said in a dismissive tone. I need to get to the crystal. He gave a low chuckle but the tone was scary. His eyes flashed fire before staying green.
"Change," he remarked with a grin. "I don't mind looking before I touch." He ran his thumb over my lips before grabbing my chin. "I can only be patient for so long." His eyes flashed fire again. He was using too much and it was making him unstable. He leaned down and kissed me. I moved away from him. "You have two minutes to change and get your ass to the dinner table." I heard the bedroom door close as I sank to the ground.
After dinner Liam decided we needed a movie night. "I know how much you like watching movies and eating popcorn," he said sitting next to me on the couch. "I remember our first movie night together," he caressed my cheek. I tried to move but he used to keep me still. "We were on the couch lying down and I was holding you." He moved his thumb over my lips. He kissed my cheek and got up. I was finally able to move.
"You really are delusional," I snapped as I wiped my cheek. "We have never been on a couch together watching movies." I stood up. He continued to put the movie in. "Using on me so you can kiss me doesn't mean I want you. It doesn't make you my boyfriend or anything else." He blew me a kiss as he went to the kitchen. I was ready to explode but instead I took a deep breath.
He walked out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of popcorn. "I made sure to add extra butter," he said smiling. "Just the way you like it." I wanted to say something but I kept quiet and tried not to smile. "Seat down so we can watch the movie," he said in a demanding tone. I took a seat on the couch as far away from him as possible. He offered me some popcorn.
"No thank you," I replied. "I don't care for popcorn." I leaned against the arm of the couch.
"What do you mean you don't care for popcorn?" he asked looking at me suspiciously. "You always have popcorn when you watch a movie." He didn't look happy.
"Bubba likes popcorn," I answered smiling. "He loves it with extra butter. I only eat it when I am in the mood." I pushed the bowl away. I was watching the screen but I really wasn't paying attention to the movie. I could sense he was backtracking trying to figure out if I was telling him the truth.
He didn't say much as we watched the movie. My mind wandered on thoughts of the guys. I was wondering what they were doing. Did they have a clue where I was being held? I worried about Pogue. I remember how he felt the last time he didn't know how I was doing. This must be worse for him. Last time he could see me but now…I need him. We are a part of each other. There must be a way out of here. Not every plan is fool proof. Liam was able to break my shield for months. I need to think outside the box. Maybe the crystal and the shield have something to do with getting out of here. The other thought I didn't want to think about is maybe Laura is looking for me as well. She bound her powers to mine and there is no way she can unbind them if I don't have them.
The movie continued to play but I ignored it. The only good thing was Liam wasn't bothering me. It seemed like he was watching the movie but I couldn't be sure. I let my thoughts roll over in my head from every angle. If there was a way I could recreate the moment of the crackle in the shield and Liam using, I might be able to use my power and not just communicate telepathically. I was so lost in my thoughts; I jumped when Liam touched my hand.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Liam said as he moved closer to me. "Did you want to watch another movie?" I tried to move away from him but there wasn't anywhere to go. I was stuck between him and the arm of the couch.
"No," I answered. I got up and walked to the hallway. "It's late. I think I'll go to bed." I didn't wait for his response.
I went to the bathroom and took my time brushing my teeth. The thought of sleeping under the same roof with him made me uncomfortable and a little scared. He acts like we're together one moment and the next he is full of rage. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and walked out of the bathroom. When I entered the bedroom, Liam was lying on the bed.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I asked taking a step back. He had the covers over the lower half of his body. He was shirtless with his hands behind his head.
"Waiting for you to come to bed," he replied like it was obvious. He moved the covers and patted the bed. "Your pajamas are in the dresser draw behind you." He looked me up and down as he smiled.
"I'm not sleeping in the same bed as you," I snapped as I turned to walk out of the room. The door closed with a loud bang. I tried to open it but it wouldn't budge. "Open the door Liam." I could hear the panic in my voice. He turned me around and pinned against the door.
"You have two options sweetheart," Liam whispered in my ear angrily. His hands held my shoulders tightly. "The bed or the floor?" He grabbed my face and kissed me. I kept my mouth closed. I tried to move but I couldn't. I hit is arms and kicked at his legs. He finally let me go. "It's your choice." My vision was blurry from the tears that were ready to fall. He released me and I wiped my mouth.
I walked to the bed and grabbed the comforter and a pillow. I wiped the tears that fell. "I'll sleep on the floor," I answered. I walked into the closet and closed the door. I turned the light on and put the comforter on the floor.
The door opened and Liam was staring at me as I tossed the pillow on the comforter. "You're not sleeping in here," he snarled. "Get changed and get into our bed." His hands were in fists. His eyes flashed fire and I could see the anger coursing through his body.
"No," I yelled. "You gave me a choice and I took the floor." I took a step away from him. He had an evil smile on his lips. He took a step towards me. I held my ground and stayed still.
"Fine sleep on the floor tonight," he chuckled as he stroked his chin. "But tomorrow you are sleeping in our bed whether you like it or not." He turned around and walked out of the closet. "The door stays open." He turned the light off in the room.
I kicked off my shoes and turned off the light. I pulled the comforter around me. As hard as I tried the tears fell.
The sunlight streamed through the trees. I closed my eyes as the sun washed over me. This was the only warmth I have felt since I have been here. I heard the crunching sound of snow but I kept my eyes closed. I tried to block him out but I could feel his breath on my neck. I opened my eyes and walked away.
"Why don't we head in?" he asked following behind me. "The sun is going down and we can start dinner. I'm starving from all this walking." He grabbed my arm and spun me around. "Look you haven't said a word to me and I'm getting tired of it." He was holding my shoulders and I winced. "What's wrong?" he moved his hands from my shoulders to my face.
"I have bruises on my shoulders," I stated. "Please let me go." I pushed his hands away. I headed towards the cottage. "I'm not hungry but go ahead and make dinner." I walked into the house and went straight to the closet.
"What are you talking about? I never left you bruises," he shouted as he walked into the room. "Where the hell are you?" he shouted. I grabbed some clothes.
"In the closet, idiot," I responded. I walked out of the closet and he was standing by the bed. "I'm going to change, but first." I pulled my shirt down showing him my shoulder. "These are from you." I walked out of the room to the bathroom.
I heard something hit the wall as I closed the bathroom door. I don't know what he was doing but there was a lot of noise and yelling. Ignoring his temper tantrums was getting easier but I also knew that his aggression towards me was increasing. The bruises on my shoulders, legs and back were proof of it. I quickly changed my jeans, shirt and socks. I pulled my hair into a ponytail. I counted to ten and opened the door.
I peeked out into the hallway before I walked out. He was standing in the hallway moving his hands. I could tell he was using. I leaned against the door frame waiting for him to finish. I looked in the mirror and noticed a tiny bruise on my jaw close to my ear. I examined it closer. It was sensitive but it didn't hurt too much. It looked like a thumb print. He must have grabbed me harder than I thought. I checked the other side but there were no marks.
"Sam, I'm sorry," Liam was leaning into the bathroom holding onto the door frame with both hands. "I never meant to…what…how…you have a bruise on your face." He walked over to me and turned my face to get a good look.
I didn't bother to move away from him. I could see the pain and hurt on his face as it sank in that he was responsible for hurting me. He backed away so fast the door frame cracked. I took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom. I didn't see him anywhere as I headed to the room. I went to the closet and put my shoes on.
I looked around for Pogue's sweatshirt but I couldn't find it. The back of the closet was empty except for the coat I wore to my parents' funeral. I needed something…anything to feel a connection to Pogue. There were clothes folded on top of a chair. Pogue's sweatshirt was on the bottom. I quickly put it on. I let the warmth of his pullover wash over me. I moved my hands into the pocket and stopped when I felt something. I pulled my hands out along with two crystals.
I turned them over in my hands. There was one in my coat a few days ago. How did the second one appear? I closed the door to the closet and sat on the floor. The crystals were giving off a soft glow. I watched as the light changed to a soft blue and moved to a deep purple. I couldn't help the smile that was on my face as I realized the crystal was the same color as my eyes. My power was inside the crystal. The other one changed from white to black. They were warming up and changing colors again. Tears came to my eyes as they changed to hazel. The same color of Pogue's eyes. They went back to the soft white glow.
I heard Liam calling my name. I quickly put the crystals in my front pockets and grabbed a blanket off the shelf and wrapped it around me. I pulled a jacket off the hanger. I closed my eyes and used the jacket as a pillow. The closet door opened with barely a sound. I tried to keep my breathing slow and even. I kept my eyes closed and my head buried in my hands when he lifted me up. I could tell he walked out of the closet and made his way to the bed. He placed me on the bed and caressed my cheek.
"Sam," he whispered as he continued to caress my cheek with his thumb. "How many times do I have to tell you, sleep on the bed not the floor? You're lucky I don't mind picking you up and bringing you to our bed." He rubbed his thumb over my lips. "Dinner is almost ready." I slowly open my eyes and blinked a couple of times. "You really need to watch your step when we go for our walks." I kept my facial expression blank. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. "Those bruises on your shoulders and jaw could have been worse." His eyes flashed fire before going back to green. He's losing it. I need to get out of here. He leaned down and kissed me. I didn't respond to the kiss. He pulled away smiling.
"I'll keep that in mind as I wash up," I replied. I moved away from him and rolled to the other side of the bed. I almost made it to the hallway but Liam grabbed my hand. "Can we have this conversation later?" I asked looking away. "I'm still tired and don't feel like getting my shoulders squeezed until they bruise, sorry I mean I need to concentrate when I walk and not hurt myself." I heard him take a deep breath. I looked at him and smiled. His eyes were black. "I mean apparently since I've been here my coordination is off."
"Is there any way you could try and stop talking back?" he asked before kissing my hand. "I know if you gave me a chance," his eyes went back to green, "I could prove to you how great we could be." He pulled me into a hug. I stayed perfectly still. My hands were caught between our bodies. "I love you so much Sam." He moved back and tilted my chin up. He gently kissed me but I didn't respond. He moved a little so our foreheads were touching. "Please Sammy Bear."
I staggered back as if he punched me in the stomach. "I need to use the bathroom," I whispered.
How dare he use my dad's nickname for me. He took a step back and let me go. I paused for a second before I took off down the hall. I felt like I was going to be sick. I locked the door to the bathroom and sank to the floor. Tears were rolling down my cheeks. I took a deep breath, trying to stop the tears. I need to concentrate. The crystals have my power. Damn it, I know there is a way to get them. The elders preformed the spell to bind Liam and Gregory's power as well as return their power.
Laura bound herself to my power and I have the spell to unbind us…if I use the spell on the crystals, I wonder if it will break my power free. I pulled out the crystals and noticed one of the crystals was half black and lavender. Does it mean my powers are still fighting off Laura's dark power?
"Sam, dinner's ready," Liam announced as he knocked on the door. I quickly put the crystals back into my pockets.
"Okay," I answered. I got up and turned the sink faucet on. I heard his footsteps fade away. I washed my face and dried off using the hand towel. I fixed my ponytail and walked out of the bathroom.
"I made your favorite," he said happily as he walked to the table. There were enchiladas, rice, beans and a salad. My stomach growled at the smell of the food. "It looks like someone is hungry." He laughed as we sat down.
I grabbed the water bottle and took a drink. As much as I hated to admit it, I was starving. He was eating as if this was perfectly normal for us to have dinner. I took little bites of the food but it wasn't enough. My stomach wanted more but I wasn't about to stuff myself. I need to get out of here before he really starts to use me as a punching bag.
I stared at the wall as Liam continued to eat dinner. I didn't bother to look at my plate. I could hear him talking but I ignored what he was saying. I counted the strips on the walls along with the three different shades of purple. I rolled my eyes when I realized he used my favorite color. I looked around the room which probably wasn't a good idea.
The bookcase in the corner of the room was from my parents' house. I got up from the table and walked to picture next to the window. There on the wall was a picture of my parents on their wedding day. It was also the first picture of me and of us as a family. The baby bump, which is me, was noticeable. They looked so happy and in love. Their beautiful smiles tugged at my heart as the ocean waves are forever frozen in the background.
I touched the frame remembering when I gave it to them on their fifteenth wedding anniversary. The outside of the frame was covered in sand with crushed seashells. I ran my finger along the frame until I felt something. I took the frame down and removed the picture from the frame. My parents' rings were stuck in between the frame and picture. I held them in my hand, staring at the one thing that was supposed to protect them. I threw the frame on the ground and turned to face Liam.
"What's wrong babe?" he asked getting up from the table. He smiled as he walked towards me. I closed my hand around my parents' wedding rings. "You look upset," he said reaching for my hand. I jerked my hand away from him.
I looked at my hand for a moment and shook my head. I walked away from him as I put my parents' rings on. "You sit there and act like we're a couple but all I want to do is throw you through a window," I yelled turning to face him. "I knew it was you that killed my parents. You took their rings so when Devin and Laura went after them, they wouldn't be protected," I shouted showing him the rings. "I will never want you. I will never love you." Every fiber of my being was on fire with anger. I wanted nothing more than to have my power back. The smug look on his face set my anger up a notch.
"Well since no one knows where you are," he said with an evil smirk on his lips. "You are mine, even if you don't want to." He grabbed me and pinned against the wall. He kissed me roughly. I tried to keep my mouth shut but he bit my bottom lip.
"No," I screamed as he continued to try to kiss me. I turned my head. "Stop it Liam," I shouted. I cried out in pain as he pulled the tie from my hair. He lifted me up and used to keep my legs around his waist. His hips were grinding into me. The crystals in my pockets were digging into me.
"I know you want me," he hissed as he kissed my neck. I felt him suck on my neck. I cried out when he bit me.
I pushed at his shoulders and chest. But he was too strong. He attacked my lips again as he squeezed my ass hard. I tried to scream but he took it as an opportunity and shoved his tongue in my mouth. I began to cry as I tried again to push him away. His hands were under my shirt. He finally put me down. I took the opportunity to shove my knee into his crotch. A gush of air left his body as he backed away from me, bent over holding his crotch.
I opened the front door but it quickly closed on me. I turned around as he approached me. He hand swung forward as I closed my eyes waiting for the pain he was going to inflict on me. I heard him yell but nothing happen. I opened my eyes to see the pale shimmer of a shield. The shield from my parents' rings was still working. His eyes were black as he sent an energy blast at me. I touched the shield and I could feel my power. The blast bounced off the shield and hit the wall behind him.
There was loud crackle. It sounded like fireworks when they first explode. The sound was so loud; it was almost ear-splitting. I covered my ears as Liam looked around. The shield started to flicker until I touched it. Everything in the room was bouncing around. I opened the door and ran outside. Bitter coldness hit me as I ran. I looked down and my sweatshirt was torn open. I could see my bra, bruises and scratch marks. I pulled out the crystals and held them against the shield. I could see Liam at the front door. He was looking in every direction until he saw me.
I didn't have time to wait. It was now or never. I didn't know how much longer I could keep the shield up. I need to perform the binding spell. I racked my brain for a second before the spell finally came clear in my head.
"Laura, release me from the bond you have created," I shouted over the noise. Liam was staggering towards me. "Reclaim the dark power that holds my power," I looked around when I was able to sense someone using. Oh god it's working. "Unleash me from your will of power and sight." The crystals exploded into a ring of light. It sent me backwards. I landed on my back, smacking my head against the hard snow and ice. The shield was gone and so was the shield that surrounded the cottage.
I heard yelling and a lot of power was being used. Everything around me looked blurry and hazy. Something was wrong, my power felt different but familiar. I heard someone yell my name but I couldn't make out who it was. I tried to move but my body felt heavy. There was too much power coursing thru my body. My arms felt like lead. I looked around for anything…anyone as my vision began to clear. I tried again to move and felt relief when I was able to move my arms. I stopped when I heard Laura's voice.
"Well well, what do we have here?" she whispered in my ear. "Little itty bitty Sam, all alone with no powers to protect herself," she laughed in a taunting tone.
I moved away from her as fast as I could. My body was screaming in pain but there wasn't much I could do about it. "How did you find me?" I asked leaning against a tree. I could see Liam throwing energy blast but I couldn't see at whom, Laura was blocking my view.
"I knew Liam would slip up eventually," she replied. I pulled my torn clothes tightly against me. "When I followed him here," she looked upset. An energy ball appeared in her hand. "Your stupid protectors and the rest of your family tracked me here. But it doesn't matter now," she spit out. "I found you first." She took a step towards me and I moved back.
I could smell the ocean. I took a step and almost fell over a tree root. I turned and ran behind the trees. I ignored the pain in my legs as I tried to put as much distance between me and Laura. I heard a banging noise behind me. She must have thrown the energy ball at me but it hit a tree instead. I hid behind a fallen tree and waited for her. She walked into the clearing laughing.
"You really are making this a fun game. But I don't think you will last much longer," she gloated. "I can sense how weak you are becoming. Not having your powers is taking a toll on you." She looked around throwing energy balls at random trees.
I moved my hands in front of me, creating an energy blast. She moved to her right and I sent the blast straight at her chest. She flew backwards from the force. I covered my mouth to hide my gasp. Where the hell did that come from? I've never created a blast that strong before. She stumbled getting up.
"Who the hell threw that?" she yelled. A laughed escaped before I could cover it up.
I stepped out from behind the tree. "Funny, I can sense your power," I pointed out as I continued to laugh. "But you can't sense mine." She glared at me with hatred in her eyes.
"I really need to stop underestimating you," she stated. "Uiribus Meis Ligare." She waved her hands but I sent an energy blast at her.
"Tui in me fortitude," I replied. I used to heal my leg. "Fire," I said as flames shot out of my hands. She jumped out of the way. I closed my hands and the flames disappeared. This new power was intoxicating. The feeling of using was overwhelming.
"How is that possible?" she yelled angrily. "My daughter is the only one that had the ability to control fire." She waved her hand, pushing me back. I quickly regained my balance and pushed her back against a tree.
"It's a nice little power to have," I replied walking towards her. I didn't feel like myself, I felt different, almost invincible. "Considering we are related, it makes sense I have this new toy to play with." I was a foot away from her when her eyes flashed fire and she sent a blast over my head. I heard yelling and trees falling.
"It's seems your being rescued," she laughed as she shimmered. I ran towards her, grabbing her around the waist.
"Don't leave," I snapped. "The fun is just beginning." I locked her in place as a woman with flaming red hair came running along the edge of the tree line. "Looks like your friend found you." I shot fire along the tree line. "Let's see if she can find her way out."
Laura spun around and smiled. "It seems I'm not the only one who is dark," she laughed as she took a step back. I kneeled to the ground as this new power raged through my body. "Your eyes are as black as your power." She was taking her time walking around me in a circle as I withered on the ground. Black smoke was surrounding us.
"Sam," a voiced yelled over the roaring flames that were consuming the trees.
"Oh god," I whispered as the flames grew around us. "This isn't me; I don't want this kind of power." I began to cough and choke on the black smoke. I looked at my hands and pointed them at the flames as water shot out, dousing the fire. I was on my side watching the fire die down.
"Laura we have to go," a shrill voice gasped. Her hand was covering her mouth against the smoke. "They killed Liam and Valerie," she said coughing.
"Lil Bit," Pogue yelled. He was close but I couldn't see him. The smoke was too thick.
"Sam!" several voices yelled. I could sense the guys moving around.
I was coughing from the still present smoke. I felt cold from being on the ground but I couldn't move. The pain of the extra power was consuming me. I tried to shake it off but it was holding on tightly.
"Let's leave Renée," Laura shouted. "We'll come back for her once she is on our side." I hear footsteps. "You might live after all," she whispered in my ear. I felt her use.
"No," I screamed. The smoke started to clear as I tried to get up. I was on my knees when my head started to throb. I was holding my head when I felt someone touch me. My body felt like it was on fire.
"Sam," Tyler was kneeling next to me as I whimpered in pain. "Oh God, what did she do to you?"
"Help me," I sobbed as I lied on the ground. "It hurts." I reached for his hand but I pulled back when fire started to radiate all around my hand. I closed my hand and the fire disappeared. Pogue fall to the ground next to me. His face was a few inches away from mine. "Pogue," I whispered.
"I'm here babe," he gave a small smile. "Relax and just breathe." He moved my hair away from my face. He caressed my cheek. "She's burning up."
"Baby Girl," Reid shouted as he kneeled next to me. He reached for me but Tyler pulled his hand away. Caleb dropped to his knees next to me.
"Don't touch her," Tyler exclaimed. "Something's wrong, her hand was on fire. Literally on fire." He let go of Reid's hand.
"Damn Princess," Reid threw his hands in the air. "I knew you were hot but this takes it to another level," he said with a smirk.
"Look at her eyes," Gregory said as he dropped next to Tyler. "They're changing from black to lavender."
"We need to get her out of here," Caleb said pulling his phone out of his pocket. "I'm calling Mr. Simms." He got up and walked away.
"Pogue," I whispered. "I'm sorry." My body started shaking.
"Sam," Pogue yelled. He reached for me at the same time as Reid and Tyler. He used on them to move them out-of-the-way. He pulled me into his arms. "Its okay babe, I have you." The shaking stopped but my teeth started to chatter. "It's like the first time we met," he gave a nervous laugh. "Your teeth were chattering and I gave you my jacket." He kissed my forehead. "You're freezing up Lil Bit. It's time to take you home."
Caleb felt my forehead. "We need to teleport her to the house. Mr. Simms is waiting for us," he stated quietly. Pogue stood up with me in his arms. The front of my shirt opened from the movement. Caleb turned away as he ran his hands through his hair. Pogue starting shaking and his eyes flashed fire.
"Son of bitch," Reid yelled. He turned away as he used. I held my shirt against me.
"Pogue," Tyler snapped. He took me from Pogue as Gregory tried to calm him down. I turned away and buried my face in Tyler's chest.
"It's okay Baby Girl, we're going home," he whispered as he used to teleport us.
I woke up alone in a dark room. The door was slightly open with a stream of light shining through. I let my eyes adjust to the dark. I heard movement outside the door. I looked around and gave a sigh of relief, I was home and in my room. Tyler must have teleported me here. I rubbed my eyes and tried to focus when I heard voices.
"What did that son of a bitch do to her?" Uncle Joseph asked furiously.
"Glenn, did he ra…did he rape her?" Uncle Wayne asked in a horrified voice.
"No," my Tio answered. "No, thank God. She was at least spared that cruelty."
"What are you saying Glenn?" Uncle Wayne asked with concern in his voice. "That bastard had her for five days. Pogue wouldn't tell Beatrice anything except Sam needed us here."
"She has bruises all over," my Tio replied. "She was frightened and refused to let me help her. Rosalind and Evelyn had to calm her down in order for me to give her something to relax her." It sounded like he let out a frustrated breath.
"What about the bruises?" Uncle Joseph sound worried. "Why didn't you use to get rid of them?"
"I tried but nothing worked. Gorman thinks it has something to do with Sam punishing herself for everything that's happen," my Tio answered. "Her power is turning dark. Gorman explained everything to Tyler and the boys. He's waiting for us downstairs. Laura's power left a trace in Sam when she broke the bind. Unfortunately the second crystal broke creating a bind between Sam and Chase's power. She doesn't know that Chase had us bind his power before he died."
I grabbed at my chest as my heart beat quicken. Why would he bind his power? Every conversation I have ever had with the guys and Chase was running through my mind. Nothing was connecting or making sense. Why didn't anyone tell me? I closed my eyes and concentrated on the extra power that was buried inside me. I could feel something pulsating far away. I gasped when I felt his power course through me. Chase, why didn't you tell me? I knew this extra power felt familiar. I heard my Uncles talking but I couldn't make out what they were saying, it sounded like they were walking away.
I got up grabbing my head and went to the bathroom. This was too much information to handle after everything that has happen. I turned on the light to find some aspirin. I closed the cabinet and stopped. This was the first time I have actually seen myself since everything happen. I had bruises all over my shoulders and chest. I lifted my tank top and there were also bruises on my stomach. I turned around and could see dark bruises on my back. I covered my mouth when I finally saw the bruises on my neck. I looked closer and realized they were hand prints. I turned away when I saw the bite mark on my neck. I couldn't look at it.
"Lil Bit," Pogue whispered. I turned around with a shield around me. I gasped when I realized I was using without even pulling on my power. I didn't intend to use at all. I had no control of anything anymore. I looked down trying to cover myself. "It's okay, you're safe at home." He held up his hands and took a step back. I could see the pain in his eyes. I removed the shield. "I'm sorry you woke up alone. My mom, Mrs. Danvers, Mrs. Garwin and your Tia wanted an update on you."
"I…I didn't hear you come in," I whispered turning away from him. I couldn't look at him. "I had a headache," I opened the bottle and took two aspirins out. I remembered there was a water bottle on the night stand. I looked in the mirror and noticed my cheeks were wet from the tears that were falling. I was too afraid to face Pogue. I closed my eyes trying to stop the tears.
"Let me help you," he pleaded. I felt his breath on me. I could feel the heat of his body on my back. He gently touched my shoulders. "I'm sorry for not being there for you." His voice broke.
I shook my head. "You didn't do anything wrong," I replied. "It was all my fault." I wiped the tears away. "I didn't tell you that after I performed the spell to unbind Laura's power from mine, that there was a chance a trace of her dark power could still be inside me." I was looking at my hands. He slowly turned me around but I couldn't look at him.
"I know you only did it to protect me," he moved my hair away from my face. "Please look at me." I shook my head no. I heard him take a deep breath. "When I saw what that animal did…I was so mad that I wasn't there for you…I lost it." He stepped back but held my hands.
"Hey Baby Girl," Tyler was standing at the bathroom door. I looked away as fresh tears appeared. "I just wanted to check on you." He rubbed my arm. "I'll leave you two alone." He started to walk away. I could see Caleb, Reid and Gregory standing by my bed. Pogue let go of my hands and walked out of the bathroom.
"Pogue," I cried out. He turned around and caught me before I hit the ground. I wrapped my arms around his neck. They guys rushed forward to help. Tyler checked my head while Caleb rubbed my legs. I could feel how worried they were but they were also scared. They had no idea what I went through. They all envisioned the worse but the not knowing was something they were scared to find out.
"I got you babe," he said picking me up. "She's fine, I have her." He walked over to the bed and Reid pulled back the covers. Tyler was picking up the pills I dropped. "Ty will you get Lil Bit some aspirin and Gregory will you hand her the water bottle on the night stand." Pogue tucked me in but I held on to his hand.
"Stay with me," I begged. "Please." I could feel the panic rising in my voice.
"I'm not going anywhere," he answered. "I was just going to walk the guys to the door." He pushed my hair away from my face. "Take a deep breath and relax." He kissed my forehead.
"We'll go downstairs," Caleb was moving the guys to the door. "We'll come back in a while."
"No, please stay," I said sounding a bit hysterical. Pogue was sitting up against the headboard with his arms around me. "I need to talk to you guys." I leaned my head against Pogue's chest. The sound of his heartbeat was relaxing to hear.
Reid climbed on the bed and rested his head on my hip. I ran my hand through his hair. Caleb and Tyler sat down on the bed by my feet. Gregory looked around awkwardly. I gave him a small smile and patted the bed by Reid. He put his head down and walked around the bed and took a seat.
"I know about Chase asking to bind his power," I started to say. Caleb opened his mouth but I shook my head. "I'm not mad, trust me, I have no reason to be mad." I took a deep breath. "I knew unbinding Laura's power would probably leave a trace of her power in me. I didn't tell you guys because I knew you wouldn't let me perform the spell." I had my hand on Reid's head. Pogue kissed the top of my head.
"We understand about not telling us," Tyler gave my leg a squeeze. Pogue was playing with my fingers but I could feel him tense up.
I scooted up so I was next to Pogue. Reid moved next to me holding my hand. "When Liam took me," I looked at Gregory. He lowered his eyes.
"Princess, you don't have to talk about it," Reid whispered. I turned to look at him. I could see the anger he was trying to hold in.
"I know, but I think I need to," I replied giving his hand a squeeze. I looked at Gregory. "It's not your fault you know," I tapped him with my foot. "Liam let his feelings for me go to a dark place." I held on to Pogue's hand. "When I woke up in that cottage he wasn't there. The place was empty but when he returned, he used to furnish it. The closet was full of my clothes from here and our place," I looked at Pogue. His eyes flashed fire and he looked away. I shifted around uncomfortably.
"We noticed stuff was missing," Pogue said looking at our hands.
"He told me that we were together and to get used to it. I told him that I loved Pogue and nothing was going to change that. He got mad and I hit my head on the wall," I looked at Pogue. "For a second I felt you. The way I can feel you now." Pogue looked away. I could see his jaw tighten. Reid let out a frustrated breath as he got up and went to the window.
"I am so sorry about what Liam did to you," Gregory took my hand. "I had no idea how demented he was becoming. If I would have known…I…," he looked away. I leaned towards him as Pogue held my other hand.
"I know Gregory," I said quietly. "No one knew what he was planning. He got through all of our defenses." I gave his hand a squeeze before moving back.
"As much as I hate to hear how Liam hurt you," Caleb stood up and ran his hand down his face. "I think we need to hear everything." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"He used to heal my head," I continued. Tyler was about to say something but Caleb shook his head. "I could feel the bruise on my shoulder. I went for a walk and that's when I noticed the shield. I figured out that when he used and something hit the shield at the same time, I could connect with you."
"I heard you scream my name," Pogue looked at me surprised. "I thought I imaged it. But then I heard you again saw the house he was holding you in." He got up and started to pace. "If we would have looked sooner…Damn it…," he hit the wall. The sound made me jump. Reid quickly moved to the bed and pulled me towards him. Tyler moved between me and Pogue.
"Pogue," Caleb yelled. I started to shake. "You're scaring my sister." Pogue turned around with his eyes black. He looked at me and quickly let go of his power.
"I'm sorry babe," he moved towards the bed and reached for my hands. Gregory was watching Pogue. Tyler got off the bed and moved next to Caleb.
"Even if we would have gone looking, there was no way we would have found the house," Reid explained. "The shield kept us out until Laura attacked." Pogue looked at Reid. "We all feel the same way you do man," he held me close and rubbed my arms.
"Reid's right," Caleb put a hand on Pogue's shoulder. "There was no way to know where to look." Reid loosened his hold on me. I could feel all their emotions.
"Pogue, please don't blame yourself," I pleaded. "The only thing that kept me sane was you, knowing that I would see you soon," I cupped his face. "I knew you and the guys would look for me." I looked at all of them. Pogue quickly pulled me towards him. We were standing by the bed.
"Did he?" Pogue asked as he buried his face in my hair.
"He didn't attempt anything until that night," I responded. "When everything started to happen, I ran and was able to perform the spell to unbind Laura from me. But I unfortunately I also got Chase's power." I looked at my hands for a moment.
"He had the elders bind his powers for you," Caleb supplied. I turned to look at him. "He knew that you would perform the Splitting Spell. He made me and Tyler promise not to tell you until you were ready to perform the spell." I could feel tears fall down my cheeks. "The guys didn't know until after Liam took you." I cried as I held onto Pogue.
"Sam," Tyler stood up and wiped my tears away. "He told us you were the only good thing he had in his life." I nodded at the memory of Chase telling me. "You were right about him. There was still some good in him." I held his hand.
"We know Laura is waiting for you to turn dark," Caleb took my hand. "You can fight her darkness. There is so much good in you." Pogue had his arm around my waist.
"Babe, I will never leave your side," Pogue whispered. "Where ever you go, I go too."
Reid rubbed my arm before putting his arm around my shoulders. "Princess, you know me. I'll follow your ass anywhere." Tyler smacked him in the back of the head.
"Idiot," Caleb mumbled.
"Anywhere you are short stuff," Gregory was next to Caleb and Pogue. "I am right next to you."
I got out of the shower and dried up before putting my robe on. After our talk last night, I felt better about everything. The guys weren't angry with me, which was a big relief for me. I grabbed another towel and dried my hair. I wanted to use and straighten my hair but instead I moussed and blow dried my hair. I sat down at the edge of the tub. Laura was trying to connect with me. Her power was moving around but I pushed it away. I don't remember her power being this strong when she placed a bind on my power. I thought once I performed the spell to unbind our powers I wouldn't feel her power at all.
I stood up and walked to the mirror. I had to do a double take when I got a good look at myself. The bruises were gone. I opened my robe to make sure the bite mark and scratches were gone too. I wonder what made them disappear. I checked my shoulders and back. I took a deep breath and felt a small weight lift off my shoulders.
I opened the door and walked back to my bed. Pogue was sound asleep. His lower half was covered but his top half was completely exposed. I moved his hair away from his face. I caressed his cheek. He barely moved but he had a smile on his face. I went to the closet and quickly got dressed.
I was sitting on the edge of the bed tying my shoe when I felt Pogue's arms wrap around me. I leaned back against him just enjoying the feeling of being near him. I took a deep breath as his scent moved around me. His legs were on either side of me. I rested my hands on his thighs.
"I've missed holding you," his husky voice washed over me. I tilted my head to the side as he moved my hair. He gently kissed my jaw.
"Mmm…I missed you too," I moaned. He stopped kissing me and was rubbing at my neck.
"The bruises are gone," he sounded surprised. "I mean Gorman told us the bruises would go away once you stopped punishing yourself and moved past all of this, but I didn't believe it." He turned me around so I was sitting on his lap. "Liam knew you would blame yourself. He was counting on it." His body was still tense and stressed from the last few days. He buried his face in my hair and inhaled.
"That makes sense," I rubbed his arm. "The best way to keep us apart is to make us feel like we don't trust each other." I was playing with the end of his hair. "We may not agree on how to handle a situation but we always trust each other." I looked away. I didn't want to see his reaction. "I know Liam is dead and I don't want to know any details." He gently turned my head to look at me. He looked away for a moment and then nodded. "But there are a couple of things I want to know."
"Okay," he replied. "But first." He leaned towards me slowly. I knew he was waiting to see if I would back away. I leaned towards him and gently placed my lips on his. He didn't pressure for more. We pulled away as our foreheads touched. "I want us to go slow."
"Me too," I whispered. "But I don't want to sleep alone." I could hear a slight panic in my voice. "I can't be away from you." He rubbed my back.
"I'm not going anywhere. The thought of not holding you in my arms…I don't ever want to feel that way again," he pulled me closer. "What is it you want to know?"
"How did the crystals end up in my jacket?" I pulled away to look at him.
"Gorman put a spell on them. If you needed protection the crystals would go to you," he answered.
"But why put a spell on both?" I asked confused.
"When Liam showed up he somehow was able to bind your powers into the crystal," his jaw began to tighten as he talked. I kissed his cheek. "He dropped the crystal when Reid used on him." He cleared his throat. "I hid the crystal so Liam wouldn't find it but Gorman wanted to see if he could try to find a way to locate you. When I went to get the crystal, I found both crystals together. Caleb figured that your power and Chase's power were connected so it made sense that the crystals would be connected."
"I guess in a way my brother was watching over me," I bit my lip as I processed everything.
"I've missed these lips," his voice was full of need and want. He brushed his thumb over my lips. He gave me a quick kiss. "What else do you want to know?" He was nuzzling my neck.
"Why didn't the Life Force work?" I asked a bit worried. My power was pushing to the surface. I closed my eyes to push it back. I opened my eyes to see Pogue's worried expression.
"You okay babe?" he asked rubbing my cheek.
I smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine," I answered. "I was just wondering why it didn't work. We've always been able to sense each other but this time, nothing." He looked at me suspiciously as he rubbed his chin.
"Honestly I was wondering the same thing," he responded. "Gorman thinks it had to do with Liam blocking me with his Life Force." He ran his hand through his hair. "After we tracked Laura, I was able to sense you but it took a day to finally feel a real connection." He was rubbing my back and leg.
"I love you," I said holding his beautiful face in my hands.
"I love you too," he husky voice sent warm sensations down my spine. He leaned towards me and gently kissed me. My heart beat quicken. We pulled away from each other smiling.
"What time are the girls coming over?" I wanted to see them but I didn't want to explain everything to them.
"The guys talked to the girls," he kissed my cheek. "Don't worry, they were told not to ask you anything unless you want to talk about it." I gave a sigh of relief. I wasn't ready to deal with all the questions. "I'm going to take a shower. Gorman wants to see you as soon as possible." He gave me a quick kiss and got up.
"I'll see you downstairs," I smiled and waved to him as I left the room.
I leaned against the wall and tried to relax. Laura's dark power mixed with Chase's was making me want to use. I pushed away from the wall and walked down the hall. This fight with Laura needed to end soon. I never felt tempted to use or got satisfaction from using. But setting those trees on fire was intoxicating. I reached the landing that merged the two wings of the house. Caleb and Tyler were whispering. I stood still not knowing if I should leave them alone and walk away or stop and talk.
"Hey gorgeous," whispered a breathless voice from behind me. I screamed and threw a shield around me as I turned. Fire was radiating around my hands.
"Sam," Caleb and Tyler said at the same time. They rushed over to me. I looked around terrified. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.
"Whoa Princess, it's just me," Reid was holding his hands up. He had a smirk on his lips. "I know you're hot but damn you are on fire." I closed my hands and the fire disappeared. I could see the girls and my Uncles and Aunts at the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm so sorry Bubba," I cried as I removed the shield. My hands were shaking. "I didn't mean…I would never hurt…," I couldn't stop shaking.
"Hey it's okay," Reid said calmly. He took a step towards me and moved a strand of hair behind my ear. "I know you would never hurt any of us. I shouldn't have scared you." He wrapped his arms around me. I was cautious at first but I moved my hands around his waist and let myself relax in his arms. Caleb and Tyler were standing next to us.
"I'm sorry Caleb," I whispered as I turned to look at him. "I'm sorry Ty." I closed my eyes and tried to take a steady breath. "I hate feeling scared and nervous. These extra powers are too much. I don't want them." I could feel the urge to use.
"What happen?" Pogue asked coming down the stairs. "Lil Bit are you okay?" Pogue was standing next to us moving my hair so he could see my face.
"I almost used on Bubba," I replied in a small voice. "I don't know if I can keep doing this…," my body started to shake and jerk around.
Laura was trying to tap into my powers. I felt when the dark power inside me tried to connect with her. Chase's power washed over me. A blue flame encased my body as Pogue and Reid held me up. I could hear screaming and people running. I felt a cool hand touch my forehead. Everything got silent for a few seconds and then I could hear everyone's heartbeat. All of their thoughts were ringing in my head.
I didn't realize my eyes were closed until someone shined a light on them. I was on the couch in the living room. Everyone was standing around me. Pogue was holding my hand as well as my Tia. She had tears in her eyes, I couldn't look at her. I felt guilty for making her worry. Tio Glenn was checking my pulse. Gramps was talking to Caleb and Tyler by the hallway. I looked at Pogue but he was watching Caleb and Tyler. My Tia rubbed my hand before kissing the back it.
"Sam," Tio Glenn was putting his stethoscope away. "I want you to sit up slowly." I nodded. Pogue helped me up. He took a seat next to me. "Gorman, she's up." I turned to see Gramps, Caleb and Tyler walk over to where I was sitting.
"What's going on?" Pogue was holding my hand and playing with my fingers. He was nervous.
I gasped when I looked at Tyler. "How do I have David's power?" I racked my brain trying to figure it out. "David willed Chase his power." I got up and walked away from them.
"Sam, we'll figure a way to suppress that potion of the power or bind it," my Tio was watching me pace.
"You don't understand," I yelled running my hand through my hair. I turned to face all of them. "Laura's power was hard enough to fight, but now I have her and David's not to mention a portion of Chase's that is dark." I was standing in front of the fireplace.
"Samantha you are not dark," Gramps stated as he took a couple of steps towards me. I was scared of the urge to use. I took a step away. Gregory was standing in front of the girls.
"I feel myself changing," I replied in a defeated tone. I was holding myself so I wouldn't use. "I want to use all the time." My Tia was leaning on my Tio. Uncle Wayne and Aunt Beatrice had a hand on Pogue's shoulders.
"How long has this been going on?" Aunt Evelyn asked. She was standing next to Gramps. Aunt Meredith was holding my Tia's hand. Uncle Joseph was standing next to Reid.
"Since the unbinding," I responded. "The fire and water that I'm able to produce is just a portion of what I can do." I waved my hand and lite the fireplace. I heard a few people gasp as I watched the fire.
"We'll always have light," Reid stated with a chuckle. I turned around but I couldn't look at them. I could see Tyler out of the corner of my eye.
"Sam we'll find a way to help you," Tyler said looking at me such conviction in his eyes, I knew he meant it. "I promise," he added.
"Can you help with this?" I asked pointing to my eyes. I knew they were black. I waved my hand at the fireplace and water shot out extinguishing the fire.
"Sam I know what it's like to have extra power," Caleb was standing next to Tyler. "I know you have more to deal with but I do understand." He ran his hand down his face.
"Why didn't you say something?" Pogue got up and shook his head. "I knew something was wrong."
"I tried last night but…then I almost used on Bubba…I tried," I covered my face with my hands. I was getting frustrated with myself. I felt Pogue's hands on my arms.
"Lil Bit," he whispered. "I told you, I am with you no matter what. I'm not going anywhere." He lowered my hands.
"I'm scared I'm going to hurt someone," I cried. He moved my hands to his chest. I could feel his heartbeat. He leaned his forehead against mine. I could feel myself slowly relaxing.
"I'm right here babe," he rubbed my cheek with his thumb.
I was about to say something when I felt Laura. In less than a second I was able to pull on my power and throw a shield around my family. Pogue was holding my waist as the guys pulled on their power.
"It's this sweet," Laura scoffed as she walked into the living room with three women I didn't recognize. She looked around and laughed. "I think it's time to have a little fun."
A/N I really appreciate the time you have taken to read and review the story. As you can probably tell, the story is coming to an end. I am working on the end and I hope you love it. Thank you!
