Chapter 37: Yum Kaax's Plan
As Falen, Ryumara and the pack ran back to the Sanctuary, Falen looked at Yum Kaax. His breathing was erratic; sometimes it was fast, and other times was slow. The cat/hedgehog hybrid gulped, hoping that the god would live. He wasn't sure what would happen if he died. His mind was filled with hatred at the thought of what GUN did to the god; without his energy, Yum Kaax would die. They had to make sure that enough energy was left in his body. Once they got back to the burned Sanctuary, Yum Kaax was rushed to the medical tent.
"What happened to him?" Ryumara asked.
Falen looked at her, "Those damn GUN agents experimented on him, taking away his energy. He has very little left, and we're not sure what to do. Yum Kaax's energy is of the gods."
Blaze looked up, and walked inside. Vulcan is a god. Can he help?
The hybrid looked at the purple wolf and shook his head. "Each god's energy is different, Blaze. However, gods can transfer energy into each other's bodies for a time. Its effects will be temporary, though."
Silver had an idea and walked up to the hybrid. I'm basically a god, so my energy would work. May I?
Falen stepped aside so that the white wolf could do his job. Silver closed his eyes and concentrated as his body began to glow. His energy surrounded him as some of it snaked into Yum Kaax's body. The forest god grimaced in pain and the glow died down. His breathing slowed until it was normal. Silver opened his eyes and smiled.
It is finished. He will live for at least a day.
"Why a day?" Shadic asked. "Couldn't you make it longer?"
The white wolf shook his head. I am afraid that GUN's experimentation has shortened his life force. He will only live with the energy I gave him, but it will soon wear off.
Falen sighed, lowering his head in shame. "I have failed. As his protector, I was supposed to keep him safe. Now, because of me, he will no longer be with us, and we won't have a home."
"When will he wake?" Silvond asked the Forest Guardian.
"Tomorrow, at the latest." He yawned. "Well, I'm going to bed...it's been a long night."
He walked out of the tent and the others followed him, deciding to get some sleep too. Before long, everyone was asleep.
The next day came and the wolf pack had changed back to their normal selves, with the exception of the wolves with Scourge who had changed permanently. Sonic yawned and sat up, looking around. A frown came to his face when he looked at the burned Sanctuary.
'How are we going to fix this?' he thought. The blue hedgehog sat up and looked at his pack. Vlad, Ivan and Lucina were talking to each other, along with Silvond and Shadic. He walked up to the group and smiled. "What are you five talking about?"
Vlad jumped, whirling around and hissing, baring his fangs. When he saw that it was only Sonic, he relaxed.
"Sorry," the former vampire said. "We were just...talking about Yum Kaax. He woke up half an hour ago, and is talking with Falen."
"Well what are we waiting for?" Sonic asked, grinning. "Let's go see him!"
He ran off as the five people followed him. The other people in the pack joined, and soon there was a crowd surrounding the tent. Falen walked out and saw them, smiling.
"Yum Kaax is awake," he said, and everyone cheered as the yellow hedgehog walked out beside the Guardian. Then Falen spoke again. "However, he is very weak. If anyone wants to talk to him, you are free to do so. He and I have spoken, and have come up with a plan to save the Sanctuary as well as the forest. After answering your questions, he will tell you of that plan."
The forest god smiled and looked at everyone. A few minutes passed, and Sonic spoke.
"Are you feeling well?" The blue hedgehog asked.
Yum Kaax shrugged. "A little," he said. "The energy that Silver gave me is at least keeping me alive for the moment."
"מה אתה חושב כאשר האקדח הותקנו לניסיון ב לך? (What were you thinking when GUN was experimenting on you?)" Abimael questioned.
"I thought that I was going to die. I prayed for you to all come and rescue me, and my prayer was answered."
The questions went on for half an hour. Silvond was the last to speak. "Is it possible for you to transport me and Shadic to Middle-Earth?"
The god looked at the Orc/hedgehog hybrid for a few minutes before nodding. "I can," he said. "When would you two like to leave?"
"Tonight," Shadic said. "Is it possible for us to come back here?"
"I can make it so that the two of you can travel freely between Earth and Middle-Earth."
He cast a spell at the two, and smiled. A few minutes later, Yum Kaax grimaced in pain and fell to the ground. He pushed himself to his knees, gasping for breath.
"I am...weak," he said. "Listen to my plan now: Falen and I have discussed it, and we would like one of you to take up my legacy as the new forest god after I die."
Everyone's eyes widened, and discussed it with each other. A few minutes later, Shadow walked up. "I will do it," he said.
The god nodded, and cast a spell at Shadow. Then his breathing stopped, and he passed away.
