Alcatraz

Instead of going to the meeting with Storm, Logan and Hank, I found myself wandering down to the levels below the school and eventually to the hanger where the jet was. I stood there in the open doorway and stared at the black jet remembering the first time I ever flew in it.

"We'll get him," I assured him. "All of them."

"Banshee has a location on Shaw!" Charles shouted. "Eric! Are you ready for this?"

"Let's find out," Eric replied. Eric held his hand out over the water as though he was searching for something. Moments later he had found what he was looking for.

The only problem was that it wasn't doing what he wanted it to.

"Remember, the point between rage and serenity," Charles reminded him.

I watched in sheer amazement as Eric started to pull a submarine out from underneath the waves. "Holy shit," I whispered. "Eric that's amazing."

Eric ignored me, keeping his concentration on the sub.

I'd flown several times before but this I think was the start of my fear of flying. I could fly on my own because I was in control but not in a thousand tonnes of wire and steel with absolutely no control whatsoever.

I glanced out the window just in time to see one of Shaw's mutants aiming his tornados right at us. "Oh my god doesn't cut it!" I gasped, rushing to grab hold of something.

"Erik, take my hand!" Charles shouted.
"Hold on, guys. It's gonna get bumpy," Hank warned us, the jet shifting suddenly to the left.
"Erik, take my hand!" Charles shouted again.

Alarms started ringing throughout the jet alerting us to the fact that we were going to crash. I lost grip of the seat belt I was holding and was sent flying through the jet. Charles reached out for me and we just missed each other before I fell through the open bay doors.

I hit the water hard and sank before getting my wits about me. I swam to the surface and watched from the water as the sub and the jet both crashed on the beach.

I pinched my noise in between my thumb and forefinger.

"Tell me about this kid," I pondered with a slight frown.

Hank cleared his throat. "His name is Jimmy. The folks and Worthington Labs call him Leech."

I pulled out my cell phone and dialled Director Fury. "Astrid Ellis, ID 03P19Q3."

"What can I do for you, Agent Ellis?" Fury asked me on the other end of the line.

"I need a ride to Alcatraz," I told him. "That's where they're holding the source of this mutant cure. A boy called Jimmy."

Fury sighed on the other line. "Agent, I don't know how many times I've told you-"

"I know that," I cut him off. "However, one of the mutants that the Brotherhood has in an incredibly powerful telekinetic telepath called Jean Grey. My concern is the war that this will spark. It's a civilian lab and only a handful of mutants can defend it. Human soldiers don't stand a chance. I worried they're also going to weaponise this cure, sir. Soon it will be our problem. We have to move the boy."

"Move him where?" Fury asked him.

I frowned and then it dawned on me. "Tony." The very idea of a kid in the same room as Tony Stark utterly amazed and horrified me but he had the chance to prove me wrong.

Fury paused. "A helicopter will pick you up from the mansion in twenty minutes and take you to New York. A Quinjet will take you to the labs. I'll call ahead but I don't know exactly what you hope to gain from Warren Worthington. Like you said, it's a civilian lab."

The dial tone alerted me to the fact that he'd hung up on me.

I rushed back upstairs to get changed than grab my gun and badge, going past Charles' office to hear the others still talking. Hesitantly I knocked on the door and let myself in.

"Wow, you look amazing," Storm gasped when she saw me in a pair of pinstripe slacks with a blood red blouse and a jacket in my hands with a pair of black three inch heels. "Where are you going?" she asked me when she saw my gun.

"Alcatraz," I answered. "We're going to move Jimmy."

Hank shifted. "Move Jimmy?"

"To where?" Logan asked.

"Away," I answered. I pulled my jacket on. "Look, I don't mean to be all secret agent but if we move the boy somewhere safe and only one person knows about it than Jean can't read my mind and Eric can't get the boy which is what they're going to do."

Hank paused. "She's right."

I grinned. "Of course I am. I gotta go, call me once it's done."

Just over four hours later I landed on the helipad roof at Worthington Labs with Warren Worthington and his entourage waiting for me. Warren did not look at all pleased to see me when I stepped out of the Quinjet and walked over to him, buttoning up my jacket. "Mr Worthington," I smiled, offering him my hand to shake.

He looked me over. "I don't understand what the government wants with the boy."

"We're looking at moving him," I replied. "From the island to somewhere far safer and the opposite side of the country. Can we walk whilst we talk? Thank you." I hadn't called Tony yet but I had called Pepper and explained I would be coming for an emergency stay. I signaled Natasha to keep the Quinjet going and went side-by-side with Warren.

Warren scoffed. "The boys perfectly safe here."

"An army of mutants who protest the cure say different," I answered as we went inside. "Magneto is coming with an army. You may have weaponised the cure but in chess the pawns go first." I paused to sign my way into the facility. "SHILED isn't interested in a civil war in America. Period. We've got some pretty impressive weapons to fight against the mutants but they won't use them." I dug an envelope out of my suit jacket and handed it to Warren. "And I have authority to do so."

Warren ripped open the envelope and stared at the paper inside. "What the hell is this?"

"Get the boy ready," I ordered. "You've got twenty minutes." I flashed him my best smile and sat back, waiting for the boy.

Warren glared at me and stormed off with his entourage following him.

Twenty minutes on the dot, Warren brought the boy to me.

He was ten years old, probably eleven and completely bald, wearing nothing but white, even white shoes. He looked at me with a frown. "Who are you?"

"Astrid Ellis," I replied with a smiled. I held my hand out to him and he reluctantly shook it. Is soon as I touched his hand, an electrical spark jumped between the two of us. I grinned. "Seems like your powers don't work on me, Jimmy." I grabbed the small bag off Warren's assistant and put my arm around his shoulder. "Come on, kiddo…you ever seen the beach before?"

He shook his head. "No. I've seen it in pictures."

I grinned. "You're gonna love it, golden sand, blue water, ice cream…" I answered. "We'll head to the beach once we arrive. Get some ice cream…maybe get you some clothes that make you look like a hospital patient."

Once we were in the helicopter, I grabbed a hat from the box behind the seat and put in on Jimmy's head. "There you go kid, honorary member of SHIELD. Should get you a badge." I hit the roof. "Malibu, Natasha."

Natasha didn't reply.

She was silent as always.
