Slash came out of his den and stretched, his jaws opening wide in a satisfying yawn. The camp was busy, the other warriors of Bloodclan going about their duties. He himself was going to head out on his own patrol, put together by Brick to track down a dog the heir of Bloodclan had encountered on an earlier walk.
"She doesn't deserve to be the heir." Slash muttered under his breath. "She doesn't have what it takes. Scourge is blinded by his desperation to find his little, lost kit. She was probably thrown in a ditch and left to die long ago. That brat deserved it."
"Careful about what you say."
Slash turned and saw Luna padding up to him. The she-cat's silver tabby fur was freshly washed. She was on the patrol with him.
Slash snorted. "Scourge won't even if he did, he wouldn't do anything. He's too busy being hopeful this 'Fallen' is really his long-lost daughter."
Luna sighed. "I wish you stop talking about her that way. You don't know who could be listening. And how do you know that she will be a bad leader? You've never talked to her."
Slash curled a lip. "I don't need to talk to her to know she'll be a bad leader. I can tell."
"And how do you get that?"
"Simple. She's completely riding on Scourge's sob story about his daughter, she hasn't been seen killing except for once, and Scourge probably does everything for her. He's just so desperate. And look, she didn't even kill this dog. We are going to. Not her. All she did was find it. I should have been named the heir, not that fake."
Luna sighed again. "Whatever. Let's just go."
"Fine." Slash growled and led the way to the camp entrance. They meet up with the four other members of the patrol and they headed out into Twolegplace. The sun was warm on Slash's fur as he walked, senses pricked for danger or intruders.
He scented a dog and flicked his tail for the others to follow him. Slash tracked the scent for a few blocks before he finally came to an alley.
The dog was rooting around in the garbage. Slash had to admit. He had not been expecting the shape for the dog to be in. Its fur was covered in its own blood, large claw marks riddled its thick pelt and Slash noticed it seemed to be extremely careful of its belly.
Slash blinked then shook his head and flicked his tail in the signal to get into position. The Bloodclan cats did as they were told and Slash waited a few moments then gave the signal.
The dog didn't have a chance. They attacked as one, claws and fangs gleaming. Blood pooled to the ground and within a few minutes it was over.
Slash sat back, licking the blood off his muzzle. Luna came up to him. Her shoulder had a single blow from one of the dog's flailing paws. She nodded. "Well done."
Slash grunted and washed the rest of the blood from his fur. He looked at the sky. Time to go. He turned back to the patrol. "Luna will take you on the rest of the patrol. I have to go do something."
With that, Slash walked away. He traveled through Bloodclan territory, making sure no one saw him then cut across the street, leaving Bloodclan territory and running into the area kitty pets lived. The striped tabby hurried around corners, ducking out of sight before anyone would see him and reached the place he was headed without incident. "Ruby!" He called jumping on top of the fence.
A few seconds later, the grey she-cat came out of her two-leg nest. She raced over when she saw him. "Slash!"
Slash jumped down to greet her and they touched noses. He purred. "How are you? I haven't seen you in ages."
"I'm good." Ruby meowed back, licking his cheek. "And so are our kits."
Slash's eyes lit up. "Where are they? Are they enjoying their lives as kittypets?" Of course, he himself had wanted to raise his kits in Bloodclan but Ruby always seemed to get angry or upset at the very mention of his clan. Then again, he didn't blame her. After all, if it wasn't for Bloodclan's cruelty he never would have met the she-cat.
He had been out on a late patrol when he had seen her running out of the territory, looking half-starved. Another cat, a black and white tom, had been with her but as they reached the border, the tom got ahead and leaped into the bushes, leaving the she-cat alone. She had stopped just outside the border and looked back at Bloodclan territory.
Slash had approached the she-cat, curious. At first, she had been scared but after a few minutes she relaxed. He asked if she had a home and she shook her head. So he offered to take her to Bloodclan, thinking she had just gotten spooked by a dog or patrol.
Her eyes had gone wide and fearful and she explained that she and her brother were exiled from Bloodclan. Slash, normally, would have left her. But this time, he couldn't. So he kept in touch and brought her food and made sure she was safe until she found a new home.
Later on, they became mates and they had kits. They were all grown up now, and Slash wanted to see them after so long.
Ruby nuzzled him and purred. "Yes, they are doing fine. They have new homes and they visit often. They live nearby so you could see them if you wanted.
Slash beamed. "Can I go now? You wouldn't mind right."
Ruby rolled her eyes. "Would I mind it of you got to see them? Of course not! Now go on. Scoot."
Slash gave her a quick lick good bye then ran off, jumping the fence and hurrying down the street. He got to a Twoleg nest and jumped onto that fence and peered in. Sierra and Ash were sprawled out in the grass, talking while they sun bathed.
Slash was about to jump down when he heard what they were saying.
"I wonder where Tiny went." Sierra was saying, her voice filled contempt.
Ash snorted. "Probably off dead somewhere."
"Yeah." Sierra agreed. "The pipsqueak. She was so annoying. I can't believe she was our littermate."
Ash nodded. "Agreed. She was so pathetic, if she somehow is still alive, I bet she's the lowest of the low. Might have been taken in by a pitying Twoleg, if she was lucky."
Sierra laughed. "I'd love to see her face right now. So she can see how nothing has changed. She's still the runt while we are the biggest and strongest."
Ash purred in agreement and the topic changed to when their dinner would be ready but Slash wasn't listening anymore. Littermate? Tiny? Who the heck was that, Ruby only had two kits, He knew that for a fact. So who was this 'Tiny' Sierra and Ash were talking about?
Slash didn't know, but the one thing he did know was that he wasn't going to rest until he found out.
Thank you Scarpath2001 (Guest) for reminding me to go back to Slash and Luna! I wasn't sure when to do that and you helped me find a good spot so thank you so much!
I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far and hope to hear from you soon! And Rosethorn (Guest) you're questions will be answered, I promise!
