Ch. 35: The Great War- I: The Journey Begins
A.N.: Hi there, guys! I'm back, for the semester break. And from this chapter onward, the "The Great War" Saga began. Some of the contents I used in the saga are based on a cartoon that I watched when I was young. By the way, I have been searching actors and actresses that might suit playing the characters. Do you guys wanna have a look? But just so you know, like this and my other fan-fics here, they were all crappy works.
Disclaimer: I own nothing other than the plot and Daniel, Emily, Alan and Catherine. Characters like Chris, Olivia, Justine and Joseph belongs to Eraman; Tory, Addison belongs to Love of GLEEK. Logan is from CP Coultour. And neither do I own those songs I mentioned here.
The Phillips Mansion was large, that was an obvious fact. The four storey high house was now mostly black, it was the small hours after all. Then suddenly, there was a flash of blue light in one of the empty rooms on the top floor and several black figures appeared quietly. Well, it should be quiet if one of the figures wasn't so clumsy as he knocked off a coat-rack as he turned.
Bang!
The coat-rack banged onto the floor, causing the figures in the room jumped.
"Nick!" One of the figures hissed. "Be careful! Unless you want to wake the entire house up!"
"Sorry Seb." Another dark figure, Nick, whispered. "Ok. So let's get down on business. Jeff and I will get a few blood bags. Flint, Seb and Kurt will get the things we need to use, right?"
Another shorter figure nodded.
"Ok. So see you in 5 minutes." Jeff whispered before they disappeared into the pitch black corridor.
The Phillips stored all their blood bags in the gigantic cold room which was located in the basement of the mansion. The door leading down to the room was actually a painting on the corridor of the second floor. Nick and Jeff stopped in front of the paint which had four mythical creatures in it: Azure Dragon, Vermillion Bird, White Tigar and Genbu. Actually, it should be five creatures because Genbu consists of two animals: a snake and a turtle.
Standing in front of the paint, Jeff and Nick looked around to make sure no one was nearby before pressing the four animals on the paint. First was the dragon, then the bird, then the tiger and finally Genbu. At first, nothing happened. Then slowly, the whole paint moved backward and revealed the staircase leading to the basement. Nick and Jeff hurried down the stairs. The faster they got what they needed, the better.
Now, finally reaching their destination, the two vampires turned on the light before hurrying down the huge basement.
"So how many blood bags do we need to get?" Nick asked.
"I think twenty should be enough." Jeff replied. "Can you pick a bag of fox blood? That's my favourite."
Nick rolled his eyes.
"Seriously! What do you think we are doing? We are not going to picnic! We are going after Klaus!"
"And could you please tell us why you are going after that monster?" A female voice rang in the basement.
"Argh!" Nick and Jeff squeaked as they jumped up and turned to face the glare from no one but Alan Warren and Catherine Michelle.
"Well?"
"When… When did you get down? We thought you were asleep!"
"Well we were sleeping when we heard something collapsed in Kurt's room. We decided to go check his room but then we caught the two of you racing down the stairs and opened the secret door." Alan said as he picked up Niff, by their ears. "Now would you please enlighten me why you are going to confront Klaus? Don't try to deny it, we heard you."
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Let go! Alan!" Niff struggled under their big brothers' grip.
"Tell me or I'm taking you two to Dad and Mom's place. In this way." Alan threatened and Niff's eyes widened.
"No! You can't…"
"Nick. Jeff. What take you… Oh…" Kurt went down the stairs but stopped dead when he saw what happened.
"Kurt? What are you… Oh… Please don't tell me that you are going after Klaus too." Catherine said and Kurt couldn't meet her gaze. Catherine's brown's eyes widened.
"Kurt! Seriously?!" She gasped just as Sebastian and Flint rushed down the stairs.
"Hey! Guys! We need to…" Sebastian stopped dead as the Alan and Catherine's gaze turned to them.
"What the hell is going on?!" Alan demanded as he looked around the sheepishly looking teens.
This is gonna be long night…
"WHAT?!" The roar and screech from Alan and Catherine could blast the windows into pieces. They were now back in the Warblers' Hall in Neptune and the teens found themselves flinching at the glaring gaze and the screech from the first children of the Phillips clan. After they were "caught", Flint, in a moment of desperation, casted a spell which teleported everyone in the basement to the Warbler Hall where all the Warblers and the Seven New Directions were waiting, undoubtedly, they all looked shocked when they saw Alan and Catherine but not as shocked as the said two vampires who saw all the traces from the fight earlier. They demanded answers and the Warblers told them what happened. As expected, they were bombarded by shouts. It worsened when the duo realised what they were planning to do.
"No!"
"But Alan! We-"
"I said no!"
"Can you just-"
"That's final."
"Bitch please!"
"Excuse me?! What did you just say?!"
"Nothing. Anyway, we are going, whether it is bounded by your view or not."
"You dare?!"
"Make me!"
The Warblers were trying to convince Alan and Catherine, but for now, it was all futile. The two adults were stubborn. The Warblers were getting frustrated. And during situation like this, tension arose and soon, arguments and fights threatened to break out. Tory and Addison looked at each other nervously. This definitely needed to be stopped, otherwise, it didn't need Klaus's effort to destroy the Phillips clan. The Warblers would tear themselves apart from the inside. They need to persuade the two oldest Phillips children, but in a different approach.
"Ok, everyone. Calm down." Tory said and everyone turned to glare at him.
"Quit with that look." Tory snapped. "The last thing we need now is arguments and fights. Klaus will be fascinated to see us tearing ourselves apart without him laying a finger or open his mouth."
Everyone fell silent and looked a bit guilty. Addison turned to Alan and Catherine.
"Alan, Catherine. Believe me, we haven't wanted and still don't want to go after that monster." Addison said. "But just as we have told you, he had declared war on us and he is going to unleash more attacks. This time, luckily is something we can handle and just a handful of humans that we knew were involved. Next time, I don't think so. He may just attack the cafeteria during lunch time. Or simply having a slaughter party at Super City Mall! We won't go after him if he didn't make that announcement, but when he did, we can't just sit back and do nothing. Bad things have to be eliminate at its initial stage or it will just get out of control."
"If so, why don't we just lie low or hide in other places?" Alan questioned. "We did that after the freak Veronica who almost killed some of my family members."
Nick and Jeff flinched as they grabbed hold of each other's hands.
"It won't do the same trick like we did before." Fred said quietly. "The world has changed so much. During that period, hiding, keeping a low profile and waited for the rumours to die down is enough. Nowadays, however, with technology like The Internet, WhatsApp and social network, there is virtually no place for us to hide."
"So to sum up, escaping from the problem like we used to do is no longer an option." Sebastian concluded. "If Klaus continues to stir up more havoc, the rest of the world will find out and we will be doomed. We must stop that before it happens."
Alan and Catherine looked deep in thought and several minutes were passed in absolute silence. They were running out of time. Thad sighed.
"Will you feel better if you come with us?" Thad asked and everyone in the room widened their eyes.
"What?"
"You don't want us to go." Thad said slowly. "Because you fear that we may not be able to make it back, right?"
The two older vampires recoiled at the phrase. Indeed, it was their biggest fear.
"Yes, I know this." Thad said. "And believe me, I know that feeling. Remember Kurt almost went rogue after he, Hunter and the Four were attacked? Yes. Right after the moment he ran out the door, I, actually all of us, had this fear that we may lost him forever. Of course we have him back, but that feeling... Is just plain horrible."
Everyone lowered their heads at the memory.
"This is our hard time." Wes said. "We all are shaken by fear and uncertainty. But shutting our eyes and pretend nothing happen won't make it go away. The risks? We all understand, but everything comes with a price. We are going to stand against Klaus. This is the path we choose, what would yours be?"
The two Phillips looked at each other, deep in thought again. After a while, Catherine turned to look at her brothers. The hearts of The Warblers shot up to their throats. What would be the answer?
"So?" Blaine asked timidly and Catherine sighed.
"Fine. We are in." Catherine said. The Warblers looked relieved, at least they got someone to watch their backs.
"So who are going?" Alan asked.
"Everyone in the room, except Santana, Brittany, Tina, Mike and Artie are in. Sugar and Lauren will go because that monster has her brother and cousin. And Chris, you and Justine are staying behind too." Wes said and the two said vampires widened their eyes.
"What?!" Chris jumped to his feet. "I want to fight! I want to stand by you guys!"
"No." Wes said
"Why?! Is it because I am the weakest among all the family members? Or I'm not mature enough to stand up against him?!"
"We have our reasons. We-" Wes replied calmly but Chris cut him off and was on a rant.
"We are leaving you behind." Chris said bitterly, tears swimming in his eyes. "Because I'm not good enough to be a warrior."
"Chris-"
"You guys are fighting the monster known as Klaus,"
"Chris."
"You are going to be injured and probably never come back."
"Chris."
"And all I am going to do is to sit at the back and watch the fires burning across the river."
"Chris!"
"While my brothers are risking their lives, I'm just going to sit and hide like a useless timid baby!"
"Chris!" Wes shouted. "Chris. Listen to me."
Wes said forcefully and the Asian vampire looked at him.
"First of all, you are not weak, you are not immature either. And We are not leaving you behind. We have an important mission for you." Wes said. "The front line is important, but the backside is also crucial. With us all gone, who are going to look after dad and mom? You know they are going to be upset, especially dad. We need you to be the sunshine for him, for mom, and your friends."
Wes gestured at the five New Directions who had to stay before he continued.
"They all need you, and Justine will be with you. You are not alone." Wes looked at Justine who nodded as she realised what her family were having in store. She, Justine Miranda, was going to be the anchor of Chris Wong.
"Understand?" Wes asked and Chris nodded.
"Yeah. But… Just… Be safe… And be back… Like Kurt said earlier, I don't want to lose you! Any of you!" Chris choked and everyone ran forward to have a group hug.
"Everything's gonna be alright." Wes soothed his baby brother. After a while, the hug broke.
"So how are we going?" Rock asked.
"We are going there by the magic carpet." Sugar said as she swung her wand. The next second, a normal size carpet with some complicated pattern appeared. It floated, uncoiled and landed in front of the group. Sugar and Lauren stepped on it while the others looked at it.
"Can it fit everyone?" Tory asked as he looked at the carpet which seemed to fit only six people. Sugar shook her head.
"Don't judge the book by its cover." Sugar said and pressed her hand onto one of the symbols of the carpet. A blue light flashed and a staircase appeared. Sugar walked down the stairs and signalled everyone to follow her. When they walked down the stairs, all except the magicians were shocked.
"The place is so huge!" Thad exclaimed. Right in front of them was a huge platform with an enormous circular window so they can have a perfect view of the scenery.
"There are individual rooms downstairs." Sugar pointed at a circle on the floor. A blue light flashed and another series of stairs appeared.
"This looks like a perfect place for a picnic." David said as he looked around.
"It is one of its purposes." Lauren said. "But right now, it is transformed for battle use."
"What's that room for?" Wes asked as he pointed at a double door which was located at the back of the platform.
"That's the Room of Will." Sugar said.
"Or multipurpose room, in a more common term." Sugar added after noticing the confused faces of The Warblers. "It can be changed according to my will or Rory's and Lauren's. It will be served as the training room for this moment. Don't think it's a good idea to fight against the enemy without any training."
Everyone nodded in understanding as they got out the carpet to load their luggage into it.
"What time is it now?" Fred asked as they finished filling the carpet and climbed out the stairs.
"A few minutes before dawn." Jeff said in a rare serious tone and everyone looked at the brightening eastern sky.
"I think if we want to end this quick, we have to go now." Sugar said quietly. Everyone nodded and they gave each other a brief hug.
"Dolphin, be safe." Brittany said as she and Tina hugged Kurt while Santana was sobbing quietly in Flint's chest. Artie and Mike gave their most sincere blessings to all the Warblers while Wes, Alan, Catherine and Justine were busy in comforting Chris.
"Don't worry, I will. Everyone will come back alive and in one piece." Kurt whispered. They all had one more group hug and the warriors disappeared into the interior of the magic carpet. The carpet then rose into the air before it shot towards the sky. The group of teens staying behind watched as it became smaller until it was impossible to see.
"Guys. Be back soon. And be safe." Chris muttered as he watched the magic carpet disappeared into the dawning sky. His hands clenched into a tight fist as he did. Justine took his hand and the two hugged each other tightly while Tina, Mike, Artie, Santana and Brittany stepped up to comfort the two vampires. This is a hard time for the Phillips and they would be damned if they let their dear friends to crumble under the pressure.
The journey began, but everyone clearly knew, that it would not be smooth, let alone the fight lurking behind.

A.N.: So... *Looking around sheepishly* How was it? Cheesy as always, I know. I haven't done this for like several months and I need some time to warm up again. So sorry about every mistakes. Also, poor Niff, they always get caught when they are doing something secret. XD
Some notes about the four creatures: These four creatures, Azure Dragon (青龍), Vermillion Bird (朱雀), White Tiger (白虎) and Genbu (玄武), are the sacred beasts in Taoism, China's own religion. The sequence that Jeff pressed to unlock the secret door is according to seasons. If I remember correctly, Azure Dragon represents Spring, Vermillion Bird is Summer, White Tiger is Autumn and finally, Genbu is Winter. Easy? ;)

Otherwise I don't think my flow of ideas can sustain that long. -_- As for Sue, I think her being a powerful and fearful witch and helping the Warblers out suits her personality perfectly. Of course she knew Carson is Kurt and virtually everything about the Warblers and the Seven NDs. I mean, come on, it is Sue Sylvester we are talking about. ;) As for the NDs, I think they need some time to sort things out. Marley and Wade will definitely come around, I have a soft spot to most of the girls in New Directions and Sunshine, and Wade, well, he is special. Jake and Joe, should be. Puck and Sam, probably, though he needs more time and some "push" to come around, after all, he is not some yellow-dog who bite the hand that feeds him, that's Finn's job. :D He is the one that not come around.
