Chapter 37-Flashbacks

Rachel looked around the room at her Aunt's house and sulked as she noticed just how much the room had been changed since the last time that she had stayed here, despite the fact that it had not been that long ago. The comforter on the bed was purple, one of Rachel's favorite colors, and there were Broadway posters all over the walls. There was a desk and a dresser, both white and matching the bed. It did look nice. Her aunt had done all of this for her...and how had she treated her aunt? Her mother was going to kill her when she found out that she had called her Aunt a bitch. Her mother was going to jump at the chance to send her back to her fathers now. Her mom would probably take her to them herself.

Rachel felt a tear fall down her face. She wished she had her phone. Her mother had not even sent it with her to school like she normally did when she was grounded. That was a testament to just how much trouble she really was in after the weekend. Her mother usually did not send her anywhere without her phone if she wasn't going to be with her.

Rachel wiped her face off with her sleeve. She was not happy, even after everything, that her aunt had spanked her. It wasn't fair. At. All. What gave her aunt the right to spank her at all? A swat and the corner was one thing. But a full spanking?

Rachel could feel herself getting angry thinking about it. She sat up and scooted back against the wall, ignoring the dull ache in her backside. She needed to go check on Noah. Rachel stood up from the bed and then went over to the window and looked down. There was no trellis, but there was a tree.

She looked back at the door. It was shut and there was no sound from any other part of the house that Rachel could hear, so she opened the window and took out the screen, throwing her leg over the window sill and reaching into out towards the tree.

Suddenly, Rachel was jerked backwards, three of the hardest swats she had ever felt falling on her backside, and then the floor beneath her feet. She literally had to shake off the disorientation that she was feeling.

Rachel grew angrier. Who the hell did her aunt think that she was?

"Why do you have to be such a bitc…" Rachel turned around and suddenly her stomach fell.

"Ma...Mama….." Rachel tried to back up. Her mom looked furious. Aunt Weazy was also in the room and didn't look too happy either. In fact, she looked pretty pissed too.

"Rachel Barbra, I have had it with your attitude. Do you understand me?" Shelby asked, puncuating each of the last four words with a swat that she hoped ignited the fire in her daughters behind. She knew from experience that Kate did not play when it came to spankings. She had been on the receiving end of them many, many times in her life. The worst had probably been when she had thought she was too old for a spanking. In fact, she had already had Rachel and had her snatched away from her at the time. Melody had probably been about six months old and Kate had hit her limit with Shelby, though looking back it had taken much longer than Shelby should have expected with the way she had been acting towards Kate...

"I am going to show you just how much I am, in fact, your mother, Shelby Margaret Corcoran! You can come home with me tonight and I will show you once and for why I am the mother and you are the daughter in this relationship." Kate stood from her chair in the restaurant they had been eating in when Shelby had started mouthing off and making snide remarks at Kate and towards the baby from the moment she had sat down in the seat beside her sister. Parker was the only one safe from her remarks at the moment and he was in the bathroom changing Melody. He had noticed that things were getting heated, so he had jumped at the chance to leave the table with the baby.

Shelby stared at Kate and sneered. She was twenty-three. Twenty-three. She didn't care if Kate was her mother! She could not do anything to her. She was an adult! It was not her fault that Kate didn't care about her anymore! It wasn't her fault that since Kate had her own little perfect family that she didn't care about Shelby anymore. Sure, she had pretended to be her mother since she was twelve. She had pretended to care about her all those years only to forget about her when she had her own baby!

"I am going back to school! I don't want to stay with you tonight!" Shelby didn't care what Kate said. She was twenty-three and she did not have to deal with this!

Kate stood up from the table, throwing her cloth napkin on top of her barely eaten plate, and grabbed Shelby by the upper arm, pulling her up. Shelby didn't fight her. She was old enough not to want to make a scene in front of all these people. There were some who were already staring at them trying to figure out what was going on. They needed to mind their own business, but Shelby knew it was best to keep her mouth shut at the moment.

"Give me your car keys." Kate whispered as she watched Parker coming back from the bathroom with Melody.

"No! You cannot have my car keys!" Shelby said in a whine that grated on Kate's nerves more than she let on.

"Parker, I am taking Shelby's car, and Shelby, and we are going back to the house."

Shelby blocked the two of them out as they whispered for a couple of minutes between one another. She was focused on the fact that she wanted to run out of the restaurant, but she knew better. She knew not to run out of the restaurant without Kate.

"Come, Shelby. We have much to discuss. Give me your keys!"

"They are mine!" Shelby hissed.

"Do I need to remind you exactly whose name is on the title to that car? Or who paid for that car?"

Shelby sneered at Kate and practically threw the keys at her. Kate had taken her car away from her before, and she didn't want to have to deal with that at the moment. Not when she knew that she was going to want to make a quick escape after they got back home.

Shelby climbed in the passenger side and slammed the door as hard as she could, then almost instantly felt a stinging smack against her leg.

"What the hell, Weazy?" Shelby yelled, rubbing her leg in an attempt to get the sting to leave.

"Watch it, Shelby Margaret. You are in enough trouble as it is." Kate said, backing the car out of the parking spot and then leaving the restaurant. They were headed back to the house which was about fifteen minutes away. A good distance for talking about Shelby's attitude.

"Do you want to tell me what that was back there, Shelby? Do you want to tell me why, since right before Melody was born, you have not had one civil conversation with me? Why you think that it is okay to snap at me every single time that I ask you a question? Or why, Shelby Margaret, you think that it is okay to curse at me? Do not think that I don't know about the all night parties you have been going to. Or the weed. You reeked of it when you showed up this morning."

Shelby's eyes widened. How did she know all of this?

"I don't know what you are talking about." Shelby whispered, placing a hand on each leg in an attempt to keep from getting another smack.

Kate's eyes narrowed. That was okay. Kate knew exactly how she was going to take care of this problem once they got home.

A while later, Kate pulled into the driveway. She unbuckled her seatbelt and then looked over at her child.

"Shelby, go up to your room and change into your pajamas. I will be in as soon as I change my clothes."

Shelby's eyes widened again, and she stared at Kate.

"You can't! Weazy! I am twenty-three years old!"

"And I am your mother. It is time that you realized that. Over six months you have been acting like you have no one. Like my feelings do not matter. Life you have no one who cares about your well being. You have acted like a spoiled brat every single time something did not go the way that you thought it should. And, I plan to fix that tonight since you do not want to talk to me about anything. Now, go to your room and do as I have asked, before I add more to what I am already going to give you."

Shelby felt herself tense as she just nodded and climbed out of the car. She would not cry. She was too old for this, and Kate would see that.

Shelby went into her room and quickly changed into a tank top and a thick pair sweat pants and washed the make-up off of her face and put her hair up in a high bun before she sat down on her bed, against the wall with her knees drawn up to her chest. What was happening in her life right now that her sister...no, her mother...thought that she had to punish her at twenty-three?

It was not long before Kate came into the room. She could tell that Shelby had been trying her best not to cry.

"Want to tell me what is going on in that pretty little head of yours, baby girl?"

Shelby glared at Kate.

"Screw you, Weazy!" Shelby hissed.

Kate shook her head. She had had enough. She sat on the bed, and, without delay, pulled Shelby across her lap. She was glad that Shelby had never grown taller than her. That she was the same height now that she had been at fifteen when she had stopped growing.

"You can't do this! I am an adult!" Shelby screamed at Kate.

"Then you should act like an adult, young lady." Kate told her gently. She seriously hoped that Shelby did not think she enjoyed doing this. She didn't. She just knew that this attitude and Shelby's actions could not continue, or Shelby was going to mess her entire life up.

She pulled Shelby's sweat pants and panties down and immediately smacked her. As Kate continued to spank her, Shelby did not make a sound. She was doing everything that she could not too. She was too old for this and she was not going to let Kate think that she had won!

Only, obviously, she wasn't. Her Weazy had never spanked her without reason. Not one time in her entire life.

Shelby felt a tear slid down her cheek. It had been a while she had been spanked. She didn't like it any better now than she had then. It sucked. It was a horrid feeling wrapped up in a big ball of disappointment she knew that she had caused Weazy to feel towards her.

Both Kate and Shelby knew that she was close to her breaking point. The time where she would give up because of exhaustion and tears, a time where she knew she had lost.

"You replaced me! You have a new family now. You have a real daughter. A husband. You don't need me anymore and I know that! I am a screw up and you don't love me anymore because you have your own family that doesn't include me!" Shelby wailed over Kate's knees. Kate laid down one more almighty smack as she heard Shelby's confession, when jerked her pants up and stood Shelby up in front of her, between her knees so that she could look her in the eyes.

"How dare you think that, Shelby Margaret Corcoran! You have not been replaced. You are part of this family. I love you. You are my child. You have been for a very long time. You. Are. Mine! I do not know what is going through your head, but this stops now. You need to talk to me when you are upset. But, no. You decided that you didn't need anyone. You decided that you would party and do recreational drugs. You have not been making good decisions, Shelby Margaret Corcoran, but this stops now. Do you understand me? No child of mine is going to go down this road without me there to knock some sense into them!" Kate finished.

No sooner than she let the last word leave her mouth, Shelby projected herself towards her, wrapping her arms around her Weazy, a string of "I'm sorry"s leaving her mouth.

They sat like that for a while, Kate holding Shelby and whispering how much she loved her in her ear.

"Parker…" Shelby whispered, tears falling down her face.

"Is not home right now. Regardless, I am sure that he knew how this was going to end, Shelly."

Shelby sniffed and nodded.

"I am sorry I have been such a bitch to you."

Kate smacked the side of Shelby's leg again, none too gently.

"Watch it, Shelly. It is not the time for such language. I do not care how old you are now or twenty years from now. I will hold you responsible for your misdeeds."

Shelby nodded and hugged Kate even tighter, wiping her face on Kate's shirt without even realizing it. It was going to be a long night. Shelby and Kate both knew that. They had a lot of talking to do.

Shelby would never forget that. Looking back, she knew that she had been horrible to Kate and Parker. She had refused to hold Melody. It had all been a mess. She had lashed out at Kate every single time that she had a chance. Nothing had made her happy. Even afterwards, Shelby had not been able to immediately let go and had landed over Weazy's lap on more than one occasion over the next several years.

"Rachel, I do not think you truly understand the amount of trouble that you are in. Have you forgotten that Regionals is coming up and your behavior counted on whether or not you were going to get to participate?" Shelby asked almost silently. It caused Rachel to freeze as her stomach jumped.

"You can't! You cannot keep me from Regionals! It isn't fair!" Rachel screamed at her mother.

Shelby and Kate both shook their heads. Neither understood what was going on in Rachel's mind at the moment.

"No, Rachel, what isn't fair is that you are screaming at me when we have guests downstairs. Noah, Noelle, and Norah Puckerman are downstairs. Santana is downstairs. Parker and the girls are downstairs. And where are we? The three of us are up here because for whatever reason, you cannot seem to behave for more than a day, barely that. So tell me, Rachel Barbra, how is it that this is not fair to you?" Shelby said in a deadly tone.

Rachel glared at her. Its all she could do in that moment. She knew what was going to happen sooner or later anyways. She might as well make it easier on herself.

"Screw you." Rachel hissed, then turned away from her mother. She didn't care what her mother did to her. She didnt care if she got another spanking.

She really was, despite everything, quite unprepared for what her mother did say.

"I love you, Rachel. And that is why I have to make decisions that you will sometimes not like. You will not be going to Regionals with your glee club. I hate that it has come to this, but until you learn how to behave, you will miss out. There will be no glee club at all if you do not watch your step. You need to stay up here until I come to get you when I am ready to go home."

Shelby then turned around and walked out of the door leaving Rachel and Kate in the room.

Rachel let her shoulders sag as she heard her mother leave the room, silent tears streaming down her face.

"Rachel. I can tell that something is bothering you. You and I both know that the best thing you can do right now is to talk to your mother."

"Please leave me alone, Aunt Weazy." Rachel whispered.

Kate nodded.

"Okay, Rachel. Just remember that we all love you. You are ours, and we love you." Kate said and then walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her. It was then, and only then, that Rachel allowed herself to fall to her bed and cry even harder.

AN: It is a bit short, but it will have to do. I have big plans coming up for this story. Let me know what you think about this chapter, Please:)
