And this is the new chapter .

"Well, she cares for you a lot, that's for sure." The nurse said confidently. "Anyway, you need to rest and sleep so I'm going to leave you alone." She started to walk out.

"Hey," Deeks called to her.

She turned. "Yes? Is there anything I can do for you?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't get your name."

"I'm Nurse Sarah."

"Well, Nurse Sarah, could you… um… could you please tell Kensi… to go home or find a better place to sleep?" Deeks asked.

"Do you want me to call her in? I could bring a bed so she could sleep well." Sarah replied with a smile.

Deeks stared at her, not quite knowing what to do. "Um. I mean, if she refuses to go home or find a more suitable place, you can bring an extra bed in here."

The nurse nodded and walked out of the room. She reached Kensi and gently shook her shoulder. "Ma'am, you need to wake up."

"Yeah?... What's wrong?" She asked. When she saw that it was the nurse, she panicked. "Did something happen to Deeks!?" She bolted up from her chair, but the nurse only smiled.

"No, nothing has happened to him, but I saw you sleeping here and I was worried because it is not good to sleep in a chair like this. You need to go home and get some rest…"

Kensi quickly cut the nurse off. "I'm not leaving; I'll stay here."

"Okay, if you want to, you could sleep in one of the empty rooms." The nurse suggested.

"No, I want to be close to Deeks' room." She responded firmly.

The nurse grinned at the situation. "I didn't think you would, so maybe, if you want, I can get you an extra bed in his room so you can sleep here and stick close to him."

Kensi hesitated. "I don't know about that… he doesn't want me there with him. I don't want to make anything harder for him."

"Believe me when I say that he cares for you and there is no way he would want to see you sleeping here like this. So, you have to do what I tell you, and I'd prefer it if you'd sleep in his room."

"Okay." Kensi agreed.

"Should I go and get the extra bed then?"

Kensi just nodded.

"Give me a minute and I'll bring it. Just wait here." She left to fulfill her promise.

Kensi stood there and it wasn't long before she heard the nurse return, wheeling a bed. The nurse opened the room door, placed the bed inside, and got some blankets for Kensi.

Deeks watched everything she was doing before pulling the blanket up to his neck and faking sleep.

"Here you go; it's ready." The nurse motion Kensi in.

"Thank you."

"Don't worry about it, it's the least I could do for you and Deeks." The nurse replied.

When she had left, Kensi walked towards Deeks' bed and bent down, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead. "I'm so sorry, Deeks, for what I did to you. I hope that one day you will be able to forgive me, because I can't lose you Deeks. I love you and I can't live without you. You are too important to me. I was stupid when I did what I did." She whispered to him, caressing his face with her thumb. A couple of tears found their way down her face and onto Deeks'. She wiped them away and kissed his cheek before walking back and slipping into her own bed, still facing him.

The following morning Kensi awoke to noises in the room and, when her eyes adjusted to her surroundings she noticed a nurse checking on Deeks. They were talking about why his breakfast didn't contain a cup of Jell-O.

"I'm telling you it's the main ingredient in a hospital's breakfast. How can you not put it on my tray?" He demanded, annoyed.

"As I said, Mr. Deeks, our hospital doesn't serve Jell-O to our patients." She answered steadily.

"Okay… the hospital doesn't serve it to the patients… can you maybe sneak some to me?" Deeks asked hopefully, giving her his best puppy dog face.

Kensi secretly smiled.

"Don't try and play that card, because I'm not going to bring you any. It won't work." The nurse replied firmly, amused.

"You are one mean nurse, you know that?" Deeks told her dejectedly.

"Sorry Mr. Deeks, but those are the rules." She said with a smile.

Deeks merely sighed, frustrated.

That's when Kensi decided it was time to intervene. "Hey, good morning." She rubbed her eyes.

"Good morning!" The nurse greeted her.

"Good morning." Deeks replied, not looking at her.

"I'll go to the restroom. I'll be back soon." She said, getting out of bed.

"Ahm… could you… please see the doctor and ask him when he is going to release me today?" Deeks asked her before she could leave.

"Yeah. Sure." She gave him a smile before walking out.

An hour later all of the papers were ready and Kensi walked into Deeks' room. "I got your release papers all set, I'll get you a nurse to help you get ready."

Deeks agreed, so she went in search of one when she encountered Nurse Sarah. "Hey, Nurse Sarah!" She called.

"Yes?" The nurse answered, turning to look at Kensi. "Oh. Hello Kensi, what can I do for you?" Sara asked her.

"We have the release papers for Deeks and I was wondering if you could help him get dressed?"

"Why don't you help him with that?" Sarah asked, confused.

"I just don't want to make it any harder on him." Kensi explained.

"Okay… I'll go and help him." She complied, still confused and not convinced. She walked towards Deeks' room and Kensi called Hetty to inform her about his release.

"Why didn't you let her help you with this?" Sarah asked Deeks when she arrived.

"It was going to be awkward and it's hard enough without all of that." Was his reply.

"You care about her, and she cares about you—it's obvious—and I don't know what happened between you two, maybe she did something bad, but she is trying hard to make it up to you—to show you how sorry she is." Sarah tried to explain.

"I care for her—I honestly can't see myself ever not caring for her—but she's too late now."

"She's hurting. You should have seen her when they brought you in here. She was like a person without a soul; it seemed like it was just her body going through the motions. When you got out of surgery she was in a lot of pain just because you were. She refused to leave you for even a minute. You say she's too late, but I think whatever she did to you she didn't intend to do it. From what I've seen when she's around you, there's no way she would want to hurt you, so don't say that she's too late. When it comes to dealing with the ones we truly care about, there is no such thing as 'too late.' Do you understand that? I'm saying this because you are a good man and I can see in your eyes and the way you talk about her that you care for her. You should think about that and not treat her the way you are." She finally snapped at him.

Deeks was taken aback by her words and tone. "That's easy for you to say, but after what she did I don't think I will be able to forgive her. There is a line between the things you can forgive and things you cannot forgive or forget." He responded in a broken tone that wrenched at her heart.

She just nodded to him. "Okay. You are ready to go. I'll find Miss Blye and bring a wheelchair for you." She said after finishing dressing him and left the room.

After ten minutes Kensi and Sarah returned to his room, wheelchair in tow, and settled Deeks on it. Kensi pushed him through the halls, to the elevator, and then out of the hospital to her car. She opened the door and stretchered her hand out to help him. He took it, and, the moment they touched, he felt electricity run through his body. His hand started to shake.

Kensi noticed. "Deeks, are you okay?" She asked worriedly.

"I'm fine." He responded, getting into the car. He noticed the hurt on her face but he shrugged it away.

"Okay." Kensi muttered. 'Again with the short answer.' She thought to herself before walking to the driver seat and starting the car.

They drove in silence for a while before Kensi finally broke it by asking, "Where are we staying? My place or yours?"

"My place."

"Okay. We'll go to my place first so I can pack a few things I need and then head over to your place."

"Fine." He leaned his head against the window, looking outside.

When they arrived at Kensi's, she headed inside but hesitated before opening the door. Mustering her courage, she walked in and took a back bag to pack the essentials. When she'd finished she looked at the bed and her eyes started to tear up at the memory of her and Jack on that dark night. She snatched her bag and quickly ran from the house, slamming the door shut. She wiped the tears away and locked the door.

When Deeks saw how upset she was he opened his door and tried to get out of the car but hissed in pain.

Kensi saw and ran towards him. "What are you doing?" She demanded.

"What's wrong? Did something happen inside?" He asked her worriedly.

When she heard the concerned tone in his voice, more tears rolled down her face.

"Kensi, what's wrong?" He asked again.

"Nothing's wrong. I just saw something I was trying to forget, that's all."

"Is that why you are staying at my apartment?" He asked her with sad eyes, knowing what she was running from.

She knew that he knew what was wrong so there was no use in denying it. "Not just because of that."

With nothing more to say they headed to Deeks' apartment. When they arrived, Kensi helped Deeks out of the car and up the stairs into his apartment and directly into the bedroom. Deeks walked like he was in a mine field because of all of Kensi's clothes littered around his apartment.

"I'm sorry about this mess. I'll clean it up in a second." She cleared the bed and put a new sheet on and helped him settle on to it. She gave him his painkiller and a cup of water before quickly picking up her clothes. "Do you need anything else?"

"No, I'm fine."

"I'm going to be in the living room, if you need anything just call for me, okay?"

"Okay," was his only reply.
