Chapter Thirty-Five

Quality Time Together

Since Vala had come back from the Ori galaxy, SG-1 had gone to Atlantis and gained much information from being there. They captured Ba'al, but the real Ba'al and all his clones got away. Cameron and Katelyn were living together by this time and very happy together. General Landry knew about their relationship and had a long talk with them about it. He concluded that they had concealed it at work very well and if they continued to do so he didn't know why they couldn't keep dating. The dating between them was only allowed because Katelyn wasn't in the military. He made that much very clear.

General Landry also made it very clear that if in any way their feelings for each other got in the way of their job in a dramatic way and made missions end badly because of it, they would have to break up. Another option would be for one of them would have to be moved to another SG team, or get a job in a different part of the SGC. Katelyn and Cameron decided they could live with General Landry's conditions. They thought they were very fair all things considered.

One weekend General Landry suggested in an orderly voice that SG-1 spend quality time together. General Landry planned that on the next weekend they would all go to Jack's borrowed cabin and spend a few days bonding with each other and him. Cameron and Katelyn were already on their way to the cabin in Cameron's black car. Katelyn sat in the passenger's seat talking to Cameron. "I'm really not looking forward to this." Cameron said. Katelyn smiled. "Why not? I think it'll be fun." Katelyn replied with amusement in her voice. "You're looking forward to this?" Cameron asked.

Katelyn smiled again. "Yes, for me it'll be like spending the weekend with my family. Daniel and Teal'c are my brothers. Vala and Sam are my sisters. General Landry is one of my many father figures and you're my boyfriend. It'll be fun, Cameron."

Cameron smiled at Katelyn explanation. "I hope so." Cameron had pulled up to the front of Jack's cabin. General Landry was sitting on the porch drinking something. He smiled when Katelyn and Cameron pulled up. "It'll be okay." Katelyn reassured Cameron before kissing him.

They both got out of the car. Cameron went to the back seat and grabbed both of their bags while Katelyn walked up to General Landry and gave him a hug. Cameron walked up behind Katelyn. "Hello Mitchell." General Landry said. "Hello Sir. Where do you want me to put this stuff?" Cameron asked. "You can put it in the room to the left of the fire place." Cameron nodded and walked inside. He found the room General Landry specified and put their stuff on the bed. "So are we the only ones here?" Katelyn asked when Cameron had come back outside. "Yes, Sam just called she said they were having a problem with bugs from the Sodan cloaking devices and they won't be able to make it. It looks like it's just us three." General Landry explained. "Shouldn't we be back helping them?" Cameron asked. "No, they'll be fine. It's a mild problem." Cameron nodded and sat down in a chair next to General Landry. Katelyn took a seat next to Cameron.

Cameron had changed out of his leather jacket and into his Air Force hoodie. He had also grabbed his laptop and started writing a mission report. The three of them talked and it had been over an hour. "If you're still writing you're mission report then it's too long and I don't want to read it." General Landry said. "I finished a half an hour ago." Cameron said handing the laptop to Katelyn who also needed to write her mission report.

As sunset fell upon the forested land where the cabin sat, and the temperature dropped as the sun swooped behind the mountains, Cameron, Katelyn, and General Landry went inside. Cameron and General Landry were playing chess on the table while Katelyn was sitting in a recliner catching up on her reading. She got up to get a drink from the kitchen. She stopped behind Cameron, put her arms around his neck, and rested her hands on his chest. "You're losing babe." Cameron looked up at her. "I know. I suck at chess. If I had a play station I'd kick his ass." General Landry and Katelyn laughed. "I bet you would." Katelyn said kissing the top of his head and then letting him go to get her drink. At one point, Katelyn went and put her Air Force hoodie on. The hoodie was warm and it was cooling off in the cabin quickly despite the fire and the heater.

Katelyn was so wrapped up in her book she didn't notice when General Landry had said goodnight and went to bed. Only when Cameron lean over the top of the recliner and kissed her head did she notice they were going to bed. Katelyn tilted her head up to look at Cameron. He kissed her and asked, "Are you ready for bed?" Katelyn smiled and nodded. She got up and they walked to the room together. Katelyn changed into some pajamas and Cameron stripped to his boxers. Katelyn wrapped her arms around his torso and looked up at him. Cameron wrapped his arms around Katelyn, looked down, and kissed her on the forehead. "This isn't so bad, is it?" Katelyn asked. Cameron smiled. "Not now. I'm in a room alone with you. You're father figure is in the room next to us. What could be more fun?" Katelyn laughed. They got into bed and laid down facing each other. "Cameron, I…" Before Katelyn could finish, Cameron had already begun to speak. "I love you." Katelyn smiled. "You took the words right out of my mouth. I love you too."

The next morning after breakfast General Landry had gone to do some duck watching, Cameron had gone for a run, and Katelyn stayed at the cabin to read. About an hour after Cameron had started his run he came walking through the front door of the cabin. Katelyn jumped up from her seat and walked over to him. Cameron's hands were on his knees and he was breathing hard. Katelyn's arms leaned around his shoulders. She was about to kiss him before he interjected. "I'm all sweaty; do you really want to kiss me?" Katelyn laughed. "I used to deal with blood and guts all day; I'm not going to let a little sweat prevent me from a single kiss from you." Katelyn said before kissing Cameron. "We could always take care of the sweat with a little soap and water you know." Katelyn said walking backward into the bathroom. Cameron smiled in the middle of a kiss and the bathroom door shut behind him.

A half an hour later Cameron and Katelyn were wrapping up into towels and walking out of the bathroom. Katelyn walked out first right into General Landry. "Having fun?" General Landry asked. Katelyn's eyes widened. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She looked down and walked into her bedroom quickly. "I'm sorry Sir." Cameron said. General Landry smiled. "It's alright. You're young and in love." Cameron was taken off guard. He had just told Katelyn last night. "In love, Sir?" General Landry smiled. "Yes, I've been in love before. I know what it looks like. I see it in your eyes when you look at her. You can just tell." Cameron smiled. "Yes Sir."

Cameron walked into the bedroom and got dressed with Katelyn. When they walked out again General Landry looked at them. "I just got a report from the local sheriff; there is some sort of large wolf in the woods." Cameron and Katelyn looked at General Landry. Is it a normal wolf, or the kind we would deal with?" Cameron asked. "Our kind I think. We need to go kill it before it can hurt anyone else." General Landry said handing a rifle to Cameron. Katelyn put her jacket on and took the other rifle Jack kept at the cabin.

General Landry, Katelyn, and Cameron set off for the woods. They walked for a bit before they heard a howl. Cameron looked at Katelyn and motioned for her to turn right. Katelyn nodded and leaned against a tree clearing the way. She nodded at Cameron who proceeded in that direction with General Landry behind him. They continued that way for a little while when they heard a gunshot. Cameron and Katelyn ran in the direction of the shot. They found two hunters. One had shot the other trying to kill the animal. General Landry came up behind them. "You guys go; I'll stay here and take care of him. He should be okay if we can stop the bleeding." Cameron nodded. "Be careful." Katelyn smiled.

General Landry and Cameron started off looking for the animal. Katelyn assessed the man's gunshot wound. "Do you have any sort of first aid kit with you?" Katelyn asked the other man responsible. He nodded his head and fished it out of his pack. Meanwhile, General Landry and Cameron had cornered the animal. He was a weird looking creature. The animal lunged for Cameron with blood in mind. Cameron's gun was knocked out of his hands and was shoved to the ground on his back. The animal went to lunge for the kill. Cameron put his arms up in defense when he heard a gunshot. General Landry had shot the animal. It let out a whine before it died.

Cameron looked at General Landry and smiled slightly. "Thanks." General Landry laughed. "Don't mention it. We better get back to Dr. Warner and those hunters." Cameron was helped off the ground by General Landry. "Yes, Sir." When they got back, the man was somewhat stabilized. Cameron and the other hunter helped the injured man walk back to the cabin. As soon as they were back in cell range, Katelyn called an ambulance. The hunters were taken away in the ambulance leaving the three of them alone in front of the cabin.

"So much for a weekend without working." General Landry laughed. Katelyn and Cameron joined him. Hours later, the rest of SG-1 finally reached the cabin. Daniel, Sam, Vala, and Teal'c were there sitting at the table passing out cards. "The name of the game is poker." Vala said. Katelyn and Cameron smiled as they took their seats in the circle. "Have a nice time?" Sam asked. Katelyn smiled. "Oh, definitely. There's nothing like hunting an alien animal on your vacation right?" Katelyn smiled. Sam laughed as they had begun their game of poker. Katelyn looked around and smiled. Recently some pretty bad stuff had happened, but as long as Katelyn was with the people she loved she could deal with the terrible stuff working at the SGC sometimes dishes out.

Katelyn knew that despite the danger and loss, good things were never far behind. She knew that bad things never persisted for long, but the good things were forever. She looked around to each person and knew this was exactly where she was supposed to be. Every thing that had happened in her life, good and bad, had led her to this moment and this place with these people. Katelyn knew she could no longer despise the bad stuff because of all the good it led to. Jonas, Daniel, Cameron… She was very happy with how her life had turned out.
