Fai wrapped his arms around himself and took to pacing the room while he waited for Kurogane… he didn't know what he would do with himself if Kurogane was mad at him right now. He just couldn't hadn't it. The blonde felt his stomach doing flips with just a general nauseated ach that soon became over whelming enough that he slid down one of the walls and drew his knees to his chest, resting his head on them.

Fai closed his eyes and focused his acute hearing for any noises that might come from the bathroom. Maybe Kurogane was sick? Would he want Fai to go in there and comfort him? All he could here was breathing… panting…

Cautiously the blonde stood and approached the door and knocked lightly, leaning his weight forward to rest against the cool wood. "A—are you alright?"

He heard a deep sigh and the rustling of fabric. "Yeah. I'll ah… be out in a few."

Fai stayed leaning against the door, his hands balled into tight fist, listening to the water start and stop and the opening and closing of cabinets. When Kurogane finally pulled the door open, his mage fell forward into him wrapping his arms around his waist.

"Whatever I did I'm sorry… just please don't be mad at me?" Fai's voice came out higher than the blonde had expected, cracking a bit at the end.

"Fuck. Look Fai. Hey! Look at me." Kurogane had to forcefully turn his mages face up by gripping his chin. "You didn't do a god damn thing wrong got it?"

"Th—then why did you… why did you—"

"I told you it's ah… it feel good right? When you asked the other night…" Fai blinked his teary eyes innocently and he cursed again. Was he going to have to spell this out?

"Then how come you ran away?" Kurogane led his mage over to the bed and the two of them laid down next to each other.

"Because it felt a little too good… I got overwhelmed and shit and had to ah—take care of it." the blonde only nodded and cuddled as close as he could manage, finding Kurogane's presence comforting.

Just as he was about to fall back asleep Kurogane felt Fai shift and sit up. His face was flushed red and as soon as they made eye contact the blonde looked down. "…when you say… that you… did you mean?"

"Shut. Up. Go to sleep."

Fai settled back and they were silent again for a few more moments. "Ne. Kurogane?"

"Hn?"

"Sorry my spit makes you horney… I can go back to eating the other way if you want…" Kurogane snaked his arm around his mages waste again and sighed.

"Go to bed dumb ass."

Fai stayed in bed for most of the day and refused to eat anything but the sweets off the tray of food that Kurogane had brought. The closest thing to social interaction between Fai and another person aside from the ninja himself, was a magical conversation with Tourmaline about funeral arraignments. Which of course had resulted in the blonde bundling himself up in the blankets and napping in front of the fire for a few hours.

It wasn't until the dead of night when he popped his head out to see Kurogane lightly dozing in one of the chairs with a book and looking glass in his lap. "Hey…"

Blinking his sleepy eyes the ninja lazily shifted his gaze to Fai and snapped suddenly awake. "You ok?"

"Let's go for a walk."

"A walk?" his mage slowly crawled out of his little cocoon to stretch.

"Mm. I want to go see my brother and his majesty." Kurogane stood up as well and made his way over to Fai and ran a hand though his messy hair.

"Drink some water first." the blonde leaned into the touch, enjoying the way the ninja's calloused hands scrapped against his scalp.

"I was thinking we could swing by the kitchen and eat there…"

Silently, Kurogane nodded and they started to make their way out of the room and down the hallway. Fai was walking so close to Fai that they were practically touching, and when they passed one of the guards in the hallway the mage slowly intertwined their arms.

Kurogane had been there long enough that he knew the basic lay out of the Castile, and knew that they were heading to the kitchen. Ashura's death was going to be announced tomorrow, they had managed to keep it a secret for so far, so the celebrations that had been going on since there arrival were still in full swing. Luckily for them that meant that the kitchens were open.

None of the servants were aware why Fai looked so upset but took notice none the less. (Fai was doing his very best to hide it, but his smile was nowhere near as bright as usual.) Packing up an assortment of food in a frilly basket that the ninja had to carry, they made there way up the stairs to the top of the tower.

It wasn't like anyone saw him so he didn't really care.

His mage used a bit of magic to push the doors open and they were greeted by the humid air. Using there over coats as cushions, they settled next to the water's edge and munched quietly for a while.

"Do you think the kids are ok?"

"There fine." Kurogane poured them both a glass of wine.

Fai was looking down to the bottom of the pool and he couldn't help but wonder just how Fai was handling all of this… of course not well… Kurogane knew his mage was devastated. Hell, he had just lost his father of course he wasn't…

But when it came to the whole grieving process… not that the ninja considered himself any sort of expert on the healthy way to grieve, which was why he didn't know if he should be especially concerned. The fake smile hadn't made a real appearance since the king's death, but was that a good or a bad thing? And Fai being so dependent on him? Was that a good or bad sign for Fai? Wasn't it supposed to be bad to change so drastically so quickly or something?

Kurogane had lost both of his parents and had grieved with anger. Fai wasn't mad… just, well broken. Like his whole world had collapsed around him… which it kind of had… he had cried a lot but now that he was over the initial shock of it all he hadn't shed a single tear.

Or was the shock now just hitting him?

How was he supposed to know? Did his mage need to be coddled and told it was ok to cry? Or was it better to just silently have his back and be there if the blonde chose to confide in him? Would getting Fai to talk about the king help, or hurt?

Kurogane watched Fai slowly sip his wine with his eyes close. "Oi. Mage."

"Mm?" his mage didn't turn to look at him but set the glass down and shifted to use Kurogane's shoulder to pillow his head.

"What'cha thinking about?"

"I don't like being by myself…"

"Yeah?" the ninja lifted his own glass to his mouth and drank the deep read liquid that flowed warmly down his throat.

"Ever since I was first—um shall I say in existence—I've always had someone by my side… I was born with my brother. Then I had Ashura-ou… now—well when the kids find all their feathers and go home and you get back to you're home… I'll be all alone for the first time in my entire life… even if I chose to come back to Celes, I would have my wealth and position but I would be all alone." Fai's tone was unusually monotone as he spoke.

"Idiot. You would die if you didn't come back to Nihon with me. No way after I put so much work into your sorry ass would I let that happen." Kurogane shivered at Fai's bitter laugh. The blonde shifted so that blue met red.

"I'm not your responsibility you know. You don't have to pretend."

"You are my responsibility. You became my responsibility the moment you became important to me and I always protect what is precious to me. Even if they are stubborn suicidal assholes who prance around like a gay fairy all the time." Fai almost smiled. Almost.

"You talk too much." Those cerulean blue eyes looked back towards the pool of water and Fai resumed his previous position.

"Tch. It's your fault. If you don't want me to talk don't be such an idiot.

"He said a lot of naughty words…" Yuui looked absolutely scandalized and covered his mouth as he looked back to Ashura.

"Yes he did. Don't repeat them now little one." the king ruffled the long slightly curly locks and shook his head.

"I have a question…"

"Yes child."

"Doesn't 'gay' mean happy?"

"In this case Kurogane used it as slang to mean something else entirely. He is referring to your brother's inclination towards the same gender." Adorable doll eyes blinked at him before looking back to the two who were bickering in the corner.

"Oh…"

Fai had been quite all morning as the servants rushed about to get them ready. Ashura's death was going to be announced over breakfast now that the celebrations had concluded, so they were going to be attending as well. As far as Kurogane knew, only the people who had been in the retrieval party knew what is going on at this point…

It was going to be announced that the Good King Ashura had died of the illness he had been battling for some time now. Which was as truthful as it was going to get since Fai insisted that his majesty's name not be tarnished in history.

Fai still didn't say a thing as they made their way to the grand hall, but as they got closer his mage stepped closer and interlocked their fingers together, holding his had tightly. As the doors were pushed open heads turned to look, Fai and Kurogane led into the room (still holding hands) fallowed by the rest of the court mages, all adorned in full morning attire.

People of course started to whisper, instant rumors about Ashura's recent absence spread about the room.

Kurogane saw the prince who had been standing with Yasha on the dais go pail. Fai had made a brief comment that few people were sensitive enough to feel the kings absence of magic because of how closely intertwined it was with the lands, but it looked as if the price had had an idea that it was coming.

When all of the officials were on the dais they remained silent and Fai walked to stand at the head of the platform. With the kind of strength that Kurogane didn't think he was capable of, Fai cleared his throat and made the announcement.

"I am sad to say that I am here to deliver some very bad news to you all. I am sure that everyone has noticed and missed our king in absence the last few days of the winter festival's celebrations… It pains me to announce that the Good King Ashura passed away a few days ago after losing that battle with the illness he has been struggling with for the last few years." His mages voice almost cracked but Fai cleared his throat and continued.

"This is a shock to every one including myself, but as a kingdom we must stay strong and hold ourselves together…" the blonde took a deep breath. "As per Celesian tradition. The coronation of the crowned prince will take place immediately following the funeral. More details will be made available and there will be a court session held today at noon. It is only open to the most vital officials…" Fai closed his eyes and Andesine stepped forward to finishing giving the rest of the information to the shocked court members standing before them.

Fai returned to Kurogane's side and the ninja took his mages hand and squeezed it tightly.

The morning meal was almost silent and most people only picked at their food, his mage only licked the frosting off a cupcake before deciding that he was done. He did drink two glasses of orange juice though, so Kurogane wasn't going to complain.

He let Fai lead them back to the room and didn't protest when Fai shluffed out of his cloths and crawled back into bed. Silently Kurogane did the same and pulled his mage close. "You gotta go to this meeting thing?"

Fai nodded in response making it clear he wasn't in the mood for words at the moment.

They stayed in bed until Tourmaline came to fetch Fai for the meeting. Kurogane wouldn't be allowed to go since he was a foreigner, not that the ninja really cared much for getting involved in other countries politics. He just hoped Fai would be ok without him.

His mage had thrown his cloths back on and combed his hair quickly before fallowing the older mage out of the room leaving Kurogane to himself. Normally he would have gone out to one of the frozen gardens and practiced with Souhi but he didn't want Fai to have to guess where he was should he be needed, so he settled down with his book from earlier.

It was another one of the books about Vampire's but was more centered around how to kill them. Apparently in the far north it was rumored that there were small colonies of vampires that would occasionally venture south to 'abduct victims.' He didn't know how much credit he could put in the seemingly ancient book, but he wondered if Fai had heard the tales growing up.

If things weren't so turbulent right now Kurogane would suggest that they head up and take a look around to see if they could find anything out.

Before he knew it the door was pushed open and Fai walked in looking tired. His mage plopped down on the side of the bed and kick off his warm winter boots and changed into a robe that was much lighter and would be comfortable in the warm room. After washing up the blonde sat across from Kurogane and drew a few runes in the air, summoning a book of his own.

It looked like one of the small leather bound book that had sat on Ashura's desk the last time they had been called into his office.

"So how did it go?"

"Long… lots of arguing and stuff… Little Ashura cried a lot… people called him weak… Yasha almost skewered someone… We read some of his majesties will… and argued."
