Sorry it has been a while since we uploaded. We've both had to deal with a close family member dying suddenly/unexpectedly and had to put writing on hold for a bit. However, we're back with this new chapter so enjoy!

Jackson let out a sigh as he walked out of the OR, the trauma hadn't been as bad as they originally thought but the damage to Webber's face had been quite bad nonetheless. That wasn't the worst part though: now that he was all patched up they just had to wait and see what would happen next. He wasn't responsive when they brought him in and that hadn't changed.

"Hey. Hunt is with your mom. How's it looking in there, doctor?" April ran up to him and grabbed his hand.
''April... I really don't know, he's still unresponsive. We'll just have to... wait, I guess,'' Jackson said as he sat down in one of the chairs in the waiting room. It had been a long operation; he was tired, his hand was hurting and he couldn't believe he didn't have better news for his mother.

"It's okay honey. It's been a long day. We can stay in one of the on call rooms." April placed a hand on her stomach. 'Come on baby move. Please move.' She thought, silently praying. By the look on her face Jackson knew something was wrong.

Jackson frowned, ''what's wrong?'' He asked concerned as she looked down at her stomach.
"Nothing... It's just the baby hasn't kicked all day. I've tried everything. I've eaten, drank water, walked around the hospital... I'm sure it's nothing." She tried to reassure herself. ''It's just odd.''
''Do you think something is wrong?'' Jackson asked her as he guided her to sit down. ''I'm sure Arizona is around here somewhere, I can go find her if you want.''

"No, I think I've just been busy. Maybe I haven't been paying that close attention. Give it a few more hours okay?" She pleaded. The possibility of more bad news frightened her.
''Okay, how about you go lay down? I'll go talk to my mom and then I'll join you?'' Jackson proposed.
"Okay. Text me when you've talked to her alright?"

''I will, you feel better okay?'' Jackson told her before kissing her forehead. He took a deep breath before going off to find his mother.

"Baby, I'm sorry. I know family isn't supposed to be on case of other family but you're the best surgeon I know and I didn't know what else to do." Catherine cried as he wanted over to her.
''Mom, it's okay,'' Jackson told her as he hugged her. ''Besides, the entire hospital is practically one big family. How are you feeling?''

"I'm okay. How is he?" She asked still clinging to her son's neck.
Jackson hesitated, ''we'll have to wait and see,'' he told her softly.
"Why isn't he responding?"

''I think Shepherd will be able to tell you more about that,'' Jackson told her. ''All I know is that the trauma caused his brain to swell, hopefully that will go down soon.''
"I'm scared Jackson." Catherine admitted.
''Me too, mom,'' Jackson told her. ''He's probably in the ICU now, do you want to go see him? Maybe Shepherd will be there as well.''

"I'd like that."
On their way to the ICU then ran into Amelia Shepherd who confirmed what Jackson had told Catherine: they just had to play the waiting-game. ''I think he's in room 210,'' Jackson said.
"Will you come in with me Jackson?"

Jackson nodded and followed behind her. Seeing the older man lying in the hospital bed wasn't too big of a shock for him, but he knew his mother would be shocked by the swelling and dark bruises. Both the accident and resuscitation had left bruises on Richard's cheeks.
"It's crazy you know, he hasn't had a drink in years and he was hit by a drunk driver."

''Bad things always happen to good people,'' Jackson commented.
"I suppose. It's just not fair.''
''It isn't. But you know, Richard is a strong man, he's going to get through this,'' Jackson told her. ''He'll be fine before you know it.''

"I guess I should postpone the wedding." Catherine said. She then took a seat by Richard's bedside.
''That might be smart, yes,'' Jackson said. The wedding was still a couple of weeks away, but Richard would probably need more time than that to recuperate, if he made it at all...
Catherine said nothing. She just reached for Jackson's hand hoping he'd reach back.

Jackson grabbed her hand, ''it'll be okay, mom, I promise.''

Jackson opened the door to the on call room quietly, trying not to wake April. As he closed the door behind him there was a loud cracking noise, so much for being quiet...
"Jackson? April said groggily. ''I talked to Arizona. The baby moved. She said sometimes baby can feel the distress of the mother and get scared. He or she isn't scared now obviously. Come here and feel." April sat up as her husband walked toward her.

Jackson sat down next to her and a wave of relief washed over him when he could feel their baby move under his hand. "You both feeling all better?" He asked April as he kissed her temple.
"Of course they are. They know they have the best daddy in the world." April looked deep into his eyes.

"You're sweet," Jackson told her with a small smile. "Do you want to lie down for a while, together?"
"Yeah. I'm sure you need the sleep. How's your-" just as April spoke she heard her husband's pager go off.
"It's Richard again," Jackson said. "You get some rest; I'll be back as soon as possible." He rushed out of the room, leaving April behind wondering what was going on.

As he made his way down to ICU, Hunt met him before he entered the room. ''There's moderate bleeding in the brain and his pressure is dropping."
Jackson looked on as Amelia Shepherd ordered medicating after medication and test after test. The room was chaos with nurses and interns all trying to do their job, and then there was the sound of Richard flat lining.

"I'm not getting a pulse of any sort." One of the interns shouted. Without hesitation Jackson took charge. Richard was not going to die on or even near his watch.
"Get the crash cart," Jackson yelled. It took only seconds before he had two juiced peddles in his hands, "charge to 200."
"Shouldn't Doctor Shepherd be handling this?" One of the nurses stammered.

"Charge to 200," Jackson said again, this time more stern.
The nurse did as she was told and charged to 200. She watched as Doctor Avery placed the paddles on Richard's chest.
"Clear." Richard's body jolted and Jackson's eyes immediately fell on the monitor, nothing. "Charge to 250."

"250" Amelia chimed in as she moved the nurse out of the way. This was a team effort.
"All clear." Richard's body jolted again and Jackson looked at the monitor again, desperately. He held his breath as he waited for something- anything- to show up on the monitor. After a few seconds a steady beeping echoed through the room and Jackson let out a sigh of relief. "We have a rhythm." He announced.

The crowd clapped in applause. Jackson had saved Richard's life.

Jackson walked into Richard's private room. It had been two days since the accident and so far he hadn't woken up yet. He was trying to remain hopeful for his mother's sake but they both knew that the longer Richard was out, the slimmer the chance he would ever wake up again. He had finally convinced his mother to go home that morning, so she could finally get some sleep and just be away from the hospital for a little while.

Seeing Richard with his eyes open stopped Jackson dead in his track. ''Dr. Webber?''
Richard tried to speak but all that came out of his mouth were moans and attempts at words that were incoherent. He pointed at his throat. Hopefully Jackson would understand him.

Jackson made his way over to Richard, taking a look at the monitor beside the bed to make sure his vital signs were okay, ''how are you feeling?'' He asked, looking him over. Richard looked a bit pale and his eyes were wide, but other than that he looked okay all things considering.
Richard motioned for the dry erase board on the door. Once Jackson handed it to him. He began to write. "Can't speak. Why?"

Jackson's jaw dropped a bit, he knew that he was only in charge of the cosmetic surgeries: making sure Richard looked like himself despite the damage to his face - but he had figured Amelia would have told him if Richard had any significant brain damage. For a moment he was at a loss for words, ''I don't know. I will make sure Amelia Shepherd will get here,'' he told the older man.

Richard nodded emotionless. He began writing again. "Catherine? The baby? Grandchild fine?"
Jackson frowned, everything with the ultrasound had turned out fine so there was no point in telling Richard that the baby had stopped moving for a while, ''we're all fine. The accident you had was two days ago so I told mom to go home this morning to get some rest, she'll be back later. April, the baby, and I are all okay. You go get some rest, okay? Try to get some sleep and I'll make sure Amelia will come here when you wake up.''

Richard wrote two more words as Jackson turned to leave. Richard tapped the board lightly so that Jackson would hear him. When Jackson turned his head, he read the message: "Thank you".
Jackson smiled, ''you're welcome.''
