Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Ooooooooooooooooooooo
Unloading the dishwasher, Booth heard his phone ringing. His hand quickly snatching it from the counter top, Booth accepted his call, "Hey Bones, you made it?"
Yes, I arrived two hours ago. I'm at my hotel now. How are you and Christine doing?
Leaning against the counter, Booth smiled at Max as the older man entered the kitchen, "We're fine. Max just put Christine to bed. She was a little cranky this evening but I just think she missed her Mommy . . . oh, not that that is anything for you to worry about. She's fine, really."
Perhaps I could talk to her. I know I've only been gone for a few hours but I miss her already as well as you of course.
His eyes darting to Max, Booth heard his father-in-law warn him, "She's asleep, Booth. If we wake her up I don't think she'll be happy about it."
"I'm sorry Bones, Max says she's asleep." Reminding her, Booth continued, "You know how angry she is if you wake her up. I tell you what though, you know she's going to be awake in a couple of hours so when she does wake up, I'll call you and you can talk to her then. That is if you don't mind waiting."
Yes, you're right. She would cry if you woke her now. I can wait. Yes please. Call me when she wakes up and I'll talk to her then. . . Are you doing alright?
Turning his back on Max, Booth stared at the fridge, "Yeah, I'm good. I miss you."
I miss you too. . . I didn't realize just how much I was going to miss you and Christine until I entered this hotel room and found myself alone. I've grown used to seeing you every day and it seems very peculiar not to.
Shifting the phone to his other ear, Booth cleared his throat, "Well, you're only going to be gone for a couple of weeks so that isn't too bad. I hope you have a lot of fun on this dig you're doing."
Yes, I will. I love you, Booth.
A smile on his lips, Booth replied, "I love you too." Lowering his voice, he hunched his shoulders, "If you need to call me . . . do it anytime, Bones. You know I won't mind."
I will, Booth. I'll talk to you in a few hours when Christine wakes up.
Oooooooooooooo
Her phone ringing, Brennan woke from her restless sleep and answered it,
Hey Bones, someone wants to talk their Mommy.
Sitting up, Brennan rubbed her eyes and yawned, "Put her on Booth." After a minute of silence, Brennan smiled, "Honey, it's Mommy. How are you, Christine?"
Booth realizing that his daughter wasn't going to say anything laughed and took the phone back, "She was happy to hear you, Bones. Her face lit up and she smiled a really big smile."
Clearing her throat, Brennan licked her bottom lip, "Yes, I didn't think she wold say anything but at least she heard me speak and she's happy."
She's very happy. Hey I know it's really early over there, so I'll let you go back to bed. I love you.
"I'm glad you called, Booth." Staring at the window, Brennan admitted, "I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm not used to being in bed alone anymore."
Yeah, it's been a tough night for me too, but it's just for a couple of weeks and we're pretty tough. We'll both be fine although I got to say when you get back I may never let you leave again.
Considering it, Brennan frowned, "I used to go on digs for months at a time. I don't know if I'm willing to give that up, Booth. I may not want to be gone for that long but . . ."
Whoa, Bones. I was just kidding with you now. I would never stop you from doing your job. You're too good at what you do. We just have to learn to make adjustments when you go on these things that's all. You and me are fine, Bones. Don't worry about it. I knew who you were when we got married and nothing has to change . . . okay?
Relieved, Brennan smiled, "Yes, you're right. We just need to make mental adjustments when we're apart."
Chuckling, Booth replied, "Not just mental. Anyway, I need to put Christine back to bed and I need some sleep myself and so do you. Go to bed, Bones. Everything is okay. I love you."
"I love you too." Ending her call, Brennan placed the phone on her nightstand, lay down and stared at the ceiling.
Ooooooooooooooo
His mouth open in a huge yawn, Booth heard something crack and winced, "Damn it."
Amused, Harris flipped open a folder and asked, "Am I boring you?"
Shaking his head, Booth rubbed his jaw and snapped, "No." Rolling his shoulders, Booth tried to relax, "Bones has been gone for two days and I'm not sleeping worth a damn."
Shrugging his shoulders, Harris replied, "She's going to be gone for fourteen days. You better start adjusting or you're not going to be worth a damn by the time she comes back home."
Leaning against the desk, Booth stared at the folders lying in front of him, "Yeah, I know. Bones isn't sleeping very well either."
Flipping through the pages in his folder, Harris commented, "You two are a mess, you know that. You lived by yourself for years and so did she."
Unfazed by his friends comment, Booth sighed, "Yeah, but we don't anymore and we're used to being in each other's pockets. We like it that way."
His gaze moving to the picture of Brennan, Christine and Parker sitting on the credenza behind Booth, Harris smiled, "Me and Susan are the same way so I know what you mean. Lucky for me she's just a high powered attorney and not a hotshot scientist. She does most of her work in the District."
Rubbing his eyes, Booth shook his head and returned his attention back to the folders, "Okay, enough, tell me about the Johnson case. We still have a pile of cases to review."
Ooooooooooooo
Standing over the skeleton, Brennan carefully picked up the femur and studied it. Observing her, Brian Keefer admired the way she seemed to exclude all outside distractions and was able to concentrate on the tiniest of details. Jealous and a little turned on, he cleared his throat, "So what do you think of our find so far?"
Her concentration broken, Brennan looked at her colleague and frowned, "The age of the bones places them in the correct time period. I'm still trying to determine cause of death."
Leaning against the table, the anthropologist smiled, "It was just a stroke of luck that the farmer decided to expand his fields and uncovered the well. The broken jars and the small statue of Janus found with him have proven to be very interesting and of course the small purse of denarii and sestertii were also a great find. All in all we were very fortunate indeed that the well wasn't looted before it was found."
Placing the femur back on the table, Brennan moved the lighted magnifying glass over the tibia, "Yes it is a wonderful find."
His lips caught between his teeth, Brian stared intently at Brennan and finally spoke, "How would you like to go to dinner with me this evening? I know a great little pub that serves wonderful Shepard's pie."
Her fingers moving very slowly along the tibia, Brennan shook her head, "I'm a vegetarian. The bed and breakfast I'm staying at serves me a vegetarian dinner every evening. The owner is an accomplished cook."
Disappointed, Brian removed one of the phalanges from the left hand and stared intently at it, "This bone is fractured with no remodeling."
Remotely, Brennan commented, "Yes, I know."
Placing the bone back down on the table, Brian decided to be blunt, "You're still a fascinating woman, Temperance. Remember when we lived together during that dig in Greece? We really did well together. Would you like to go on a date with me tonight? I'm still very amusing and a great lover."
Turning her gaze upon her fellow scientist, Brennan replied, "No thank you. I have a husband and I love him very much. He would never forgive me if I were to have a dalliance with you. I will not jeopardize my relationship for a fling. We have a daughter together and I'm satisfied with the life I have now."
Sighing, Brian frowned, "Oh well, it didn't hurt to ask. Your husband is a lucky man."
Picking up the tibia, Brennan replied, "Yes and I'm lucky to have found someone like Booth too."
Ooooooooooo
Reviews would be wonderful. Thank you.
