Another filler chapter, hope you like it.
"Hey Carter," Jack called from the sitting room, "You sorted to get cooking?"
Sam walked in a rolled her eyes at him. "Sir yes sir," she said, snapping a sharp salute.
It was then Jack's time to roll his eyes while Daniel, Teal'c, Jacob, Janet, and Cassie all laughed, Jack's family just watching the way the two of them interacted.
As Sam grabbed the pots and started to move things around a little so that she had enough room she looked at Jack. "You going to go and get that table now Jack?" she reminded him.
"Sure thing," Jack said, getting to his feet, "T?"
"Of course O'Neill," Teal'c said also getting to his feet.
"You want another pair of hands?" Daniel asked.
"From you?" Jack asked, his tone turning teasing, "Thanks but no thanks Danny, maybe you should go and help Sam in the kitchen, we don't want you to hurt yourself."
Jack's family obviously had no idea what to make of that but Daniel took it in his stride. "Oh careful there Jack," he replied in the same teasing tone, "You don't want to hurt your brain with an original thought."
Jack glared back at him while Jacob, Janet, and Cassie just laughed louder.
"Boys," Sam called from the kitchen, "Play nice. Stop teasing each other or I'll be forced to bring out the big guns."
"You heard the lady Daniel," Jack said with a smile, "Play nice."
Daniel rolled his eyes. Sam then raised an eyebrow and Jack turned tail and headed up the stairs, leaving some of the room in fits of laughter while the other part looked a little confused.
Sam looked at Jack family. "I'm sorry," she told them, "But sometimes I'm sure I work with children."
"I heard that Carter," Jack called from the stairs.
"And?" Sam called after him.
The silence that followed had everyone laughing. Sam shook her head and turned her attention back to sorting everything out for dinner. She put the heat on under the potatoes, to boil them before putting them in the oven.
"Do you want a hand Sam?" Pauline asked as she and Mary came towards the kitchen.
"I should be ok thanks," Sam replied.
"What would everyone like to drink?" Daniel then asked the room as Pauline and Mary went and sat back down.
Jack's family were a little surprised that it was Daniel asking and not Sam or Jack but they all answered him anyway.
Daniel quickly moved to the kitchen and started to sort out what everyone had asked for. Sam watched him and then she grabbed some plastic cups from one of the cupboards for the kids to use.
"Daniel," she called softly, causing the other man to look at her, "Use these for the little ones." She threw him the cups, which he caught no problem.
He then started sorting out drinks for everyone, him and Sam dancing around each other effortlessly in the small space.
Small talk had resumed in the sitting room as Daniel moved amongst them, handing out drinks.
"Is it always like this Doctor?" Nana asked Janet quickly, Pauline listening as well to hear the answer.
"Always like what?" Janet replied, not fully understanding the question.
"Jack and Sam," Nana said, "And Daniel and Teal'c. They seem very close and can obviously work around each other no problem but I was surprised by what Jack and Daniel were saying to each other."
Janet smiled at her. "It's normal yes," she told them, "The four of them are very close and work together very well. Jack and Daniel tend to tease each other a lot though; it's just the way they are."
"Well Sam certainly seems to have them all under control," Pauline commented, her attention on Sam for a moment as she watched the woman quickly move to the side so Daniel could get to the cupboard above her head without a word being exchanged between them.
Jacob, who had been listening but hadn't said anything, then spoke. "Jack may be in command," he told them in a quiet voice, "But Sam is the one in charge, most of the time. She always knows just what to say to get the two of them to focus."
"You should be very proud of her," Nana said in a low voice.
"Oh I am," Jacob assured her, "I don't think anyone has ever been prouder of their child than I am of Sam."
Talk them all stopped as they heard a crash from the stairs.
"Jack, Teal'c," Sam called, "Everything ok?"
"Indeed ColonelCarter," Teal'c replied, "O'Neill was just deciding the best way of getting himself stuck."
"T," Jack exclaimed, "You could have just stopped at everything was ok."
"Do you want a hand Jack?" Tony asked.
"No," Jack called at the same time as Teal'c said, "That would be appreciated."
Tony looked at Sam, clearly unsure about what he was meant to do. "If you wouldn't mind I think help would be a good idea," she said with a smile.
"Come on," Daniel said, heading for the door, "Before Jack hurts himself."
Jacob also stood, and so did Bill, Tony, and Tom and then they all headed out of the room. Jacob however came back in quickly. "Do you have a camera handy Sam?" he asked her, "This is a perfect photo opportunity for the hard as nails General."
"Not funny," Jack called out, over the sounds of Tom, Tony, Daniel, and Bill all laughing.
"There should be one in the cabinet to your left dad," Sam answered as she took the potatoes out of the pans and put them into oven trays.
Janet got up and went over to help her while Jacob searched through the cabinet. "Smile Jack," he then said as he turned around and headed back out into the hall.
"Jacob," Jack exclaimed, "Not funny. Get this thing off of me."
"In a minute Jack," Jacob replied, "You're in no danger, you're just stuck."
"Ok this I have to see," Sam announced, moving away from the oven and towards the stairs, everyone else following behind her.
Sam almost doubled over laughing when she saw what had happened. Jack's family didn't really know what to make of it but Janet too started laughing.
"Will you all quit laughing and get me out of here," Jack demanded.
He had somehow managed to get wedged between the edge of the table and the banister. He would have been able to get out no problem if the table hadn't twisted. Teal'c was holding the table from above but it didn't look like he was struggling much with the weight so Sam suspected that most of the weight was on the banister.
Sam took a minute to assess the damage then shook her head. "Teal'c can you pull the table. Dad, Daniel, grab a corner. We need to straighten it out to get it off Jack. Jack, you make sure that it's going to clear where it's stuck in the banister."
The four of them nodded and once everyone was in position Jack counted down. He reached zero and everyone pushed and pulled. It took a moment but soon the table shifted and Jack was able to get free.
Sam could see that Teal'c was taking most of the weight so talking to Daniel and Jacob she said, "Come down the stairs slowly, take some of the weight so Teal'c isn't holding all of it."
They nodded and soon the table was down the stairs. Once that was done Teal'c took one end while Jack took the other and under the instruction of Sam they put it up against the end of the dining table.
