Chapter 36: Don't even try to get drunk, because soon, you'll kiss someone by accident

The next day…

"So today's the day my brother and I go back to the Yorozuya, right?" Christine asked Tatsuma as the two of them walked through the hallway.

Ever since yesterday, when Mutsu also found out Christine and Sean's secret, Christine had thought of a way to tell the Yorozuya the truth without angering them. She couldn't come up with anything, though; she realized that that was pointless. She and Sean would just have to tell them straight-up, even if the Yorozuya would get angry at them for keeping their secret to themselves. Of course, they weren't ready to tell them. But, for the truth, they didn't know when they were going to reveal their secret to the Yorozuya.

Tatsuma nodded his head while answering Christine's question, "Yes. You and your brother are going back to Kintoki's tonight. Ahahahahaha!"

Christine snorted, "You're lucky Gintoki-san's not here right now. Otherwise you would've gotten your ass kicked again."

"Ahahahahaha! I never understand why Kintoki beats me up! I mean, that is his name!"

"Actually, his name starts with a 'G', not a 'K'. Then again, you're still going to call him 'Kintoki', no matter how many times you're corrected," She shrugged. "Anyway, what time are we heading back to Edo?"

"We're heading back in about an hour. Ahahahahaha!"

"I see. What time is it now?"

"Hm," Tatsuma hummed before pulling out a small clock. He checked the time, and informed the girl, "About three o'clock." He stuffed the miniature clock back into his coat pocket, and continued walking down the hall.

Christine thought, Hopefully, Sean and I will return back to the Yorozuya's before it gets dark out.

It wasn't that Christine was scared of the dark; she just didn't want the Yorozuya to worry. Well, Gintoki and Kagura probably wouldn't care much, but Shinpachi would definitely worry about the siblings if they weren't back by night (Since Christine told him they'd be back in three days).

Tatsuma told some of the crewmembers, "We're heading back to Earth!"

"Eh? I thought you said we'd be heading back in an hour."

"I did say that, but I want to have a drink at Snack Smile before we go to Kintoki's! Ahahahahaha!"

Christine rolled her eyes while murmuring to herself, "Why am I not surprised?" She laced her fingers through her light-brown hair, and added in another mutter, "Why does Sakamoto love Oryou so much? Oryou has no personality."

Sean ran up to his little sister, and asked with a raised brow, "Christine, are we going back to Earth now?"

"Yup," She nodded. "But Sakamoto-san said we're going to Snack Smile first."

"Why?" He frowned.

"Because his lust interest, Oryou, is there."

That answer only made his frown deepen. Sean released a heavy sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "I have a bad feeling we're going to be at Snack Smile for a while. But wait…" He glanced at Christine, and continued, "…couldn't we just leave Sakamoto-san there? I mean, once we get to Edo, we can just head back to Gintoki-san's house."

"Hm…" The girl tapped on her chin. "I suppose we could do that."

"Hang on tight!" Tatsuma hollered. "This is going to be a pretty bumpy ride! Ahahahahaha!"

The siblings could hear Mutsu say flatly, "You say that whenever we're heading for Edo."

Right after she said that, the Kaientai ship started heading back towards Earth. The ship tilted downwards, which caused both Sean and Christine to fall on the floor. In a split second, they were beginning to slide down.

Screams escaped their lips; Christine grabbed part of Sean's pant leg, and she exclaimed, "Bro! Grab onto something!"

"I can't! We're sliding down too fast!" Sean cried.

The duo slid down faster and faster, and before they knew it, their bodies were slammed into a wall. Sean accidentally hit his body against Christine's back. Christine hissed, "Ow!" She turned her head to the side, and snarled, "Oi, Sean! Get the hell off of me!"

Sean widened his emerald eyes, and quickly got off of her as he apologized, "Sorry…"

They slowly stood up, but the ship was still tilted down. Apparently, they weren't in Edo yet.

Christine placed her hand on the wall as she spoke, "It's a good thing no one was here. Otherwise this would've looked awkward."

Sean nearly fell down, but managed to keep his balance by putting his hands on the wall.

Eventually, the ship arrived in Edo. They were able to land, but the side of the vessel accidentally broke a wooden platform. A few Edo citizens glared at the ship, and one of them shouted, "Hey! You just broke the platform!"

Of course, nobody inside the ship could hear them.

The gate to the vessel opened, and as soon as it touched the ground, Tatsuma called out to Sean and Christine, "Let's go, you two! Ahahahahaha!"

The Wardenhall siblings followed Tatsuma, and when they were about to leave the ship, Sean turned to Mutsu, and asked, "Are you coming along, Mutsu-san?"

Mutsu shook her head, "No. I have to do some paperwork. Besides, I don't go with Sakamoto-san whenever he goes to a bar."

"Why?"

"Because every time he goes to a bar, he gets extremely intoxicated."

"Isn't that the point, though?" Christine questioned.

"For most people, it is. However, whenever Sakamoto-san drinks, it can lead to consequences, such as him being late to meetings."

Tatsuma laughed, "But Mutsu, I don't have a meeting today! Ahahahahaha!"

The short woman rolled her eyes, but didn't say anything else. Instead, she went back into the hallway, possibly heading to her room.

Sean scratched the side of his head as he gave the curly-haired man a cheesy smile, "So…I guess my sister and I will have to get going."

Tatsuma raised his brows up, "But I want you two to come with me!"

"Seriously?" Christine blankly stared at the man. "Why do you want us to go with you?"

"Because I want company! Ahahahahaha!"

The green-eyed teenager sighed, "I kind of knew this would happen."

Sean muttered as Tatsuma started heading towards Snack Smile, "Guess we have no choice but to follow him."

Christine shrugged before she and Sean followed the brown-haired idiot.

A few minutes later, Tatsuma, Sean, and Christine spotted a sign, which said, 'Snack Smile'. Tatsuma almost immediately smiled, and sprinted towards the bar as he cheered, "Here I come, Oryou~!"

Sean rolled his eyes, and asked Christine, "Why exactly does Sakamoto-san love Oryou?"

"I don't know," She responded blandly. "And quite frankly, I don't care."

Though the siblings really didn't want to go to Snack Smile with Tatsuma, they continued to follow the man until they were inside the bar.

Not surprisingly, there weren't very many people here. Perhaps the reason for that was because it was around three o'clock in the afternoon.

Tatsuma rotated his head side to side, and muttered, mostly to himself, "Where is Oryou, my future wife?"

As if on cue, Oryou stepped out of the bathroom, and mumbled under her breath, "I need to cut down on the cookies."

The top of Tatsuma's right ear twitched, and the second he spotted the short-haired woman, he jumped off of the floor, and headed straight for her as he took off his sunglasses, "Marry me, Oryou!"

Oryou gasped, but quickly kicked him in the crotch as she yelled in English, "No thank you!" Tatsuma instantly fell down on the floor; despite the pain in his groin, he laughed.

Oryou released a sigh as she glared at him, "When will you stop telling me to marry you? You know it's never going to happen! And why did you suddenly take off your sunglasses?"

Tatsuma's cerulean eyes stared into Oryou's; he replied, laughing once again, "Because I wanted to show you my eyes! Ahahahahaha!"

Oryou rolled her eyes before leaving the man.

Christine held her chin as she whispered, "You know…he does look pretty attractive without his sunglasses."

"Huh?" Sean stared at her.

Instead of repeating her comment, Christine walked towards the perm-haired man.

Tatsuma slowly stood up as he muttered, "Darn. Ahahahahaha!"

Christine stepped beside him, and asked, "Can my brother and I go now?"

"I told you; I want company! Ahahahahaha!"

"So I take that as a 'no'?" She grumbled.

"We'll only be here for an hour. Ahahahahaha!"

Rolling her eyes, Christine decided to sit in one of the fancy-looking couches. Sean and Tatsuma sat in the same couch as her. Sean looked around, and said quietly, "I'm going to guess Tae-san's not here."

"What makes you think that, bro?" Christine questioned while crossing her legs.

"I don't see her."

"Maybe she went to the bathroom."

"Actually, today is Otae-san's day off," A random waitress informed them.

Sean sighed, "I figured."

A different waitress gave the trio a tray of alcohol. For some reason, she didn't bother to ask how old Christine and Sean were. Either she was blind, she didn't give two shits, or kids have drank alcohol in this bar before, despite it being against the law.

The waitress walked away. Sean stared at bottles of beer, and felt his lips tug down. He said, "Why did the waitress give Sakamoto-san three bottles of beer?"

Tatsuma exclaimed, "Perhaps it's for all of us! Ahahahahaha!"

"Wait, wait, wait," Sean lifted his hands up. "Christine and I don't drink. Actually, we're not even old enough to drink alcohol."

"So you've never tasted beer before?"

"No."

"I think you should try at least a sip of it! You don't have to, though. Ahahahahaha!" Tatsuma told him.

Sean shook his head, "I'm good."

Christine suddenly decided, "You know? I've always wanted to know what beer tastes like."

The older gawped at her as if she had something really stupid, "You're joking, right?"

"Do I look like I'm joking?" Christine gave him a bored expression.

Another frown appeared on Sean's face; when he didn't answer instantly, Christine smirked, "Yeah, just as I thought."

"Hey!" He scowled. "Why do you want to try beer, anyway?! You know you're not allowed to drink it until you're 21!"

"Actually, the legal drinking age is 20," Tatsuma pointed out as he opened one of the beer bottles.

Sean thought, Oh, that's right. We're in Japan. But, why the heck is Sakamoto-san wanting us to taste beer, when we could easily get caught, and go to jail, for doing such a thing?! And furthermore, why does Christine want to try alcohol?!

The brunette gazed at his sister from the corner of his eye; he saw that Christine was also trying to open a beer bottle. Sean knitted his eyebrows before grabbing the bottle…or at least trying to.

He grabbed the handle of the bottle, but Christine wouldn't allow him to take it. She grasped both her hands onto the beer bottle, and pulled it away from his grip as she hissed, "This is my bottle! Get your own!"

He face-palmed himself, "I don't want you to get in trouble for drinking alcohol! You're still a minor, you know!"

"So are you!" She spat.

"Yeah, but at least I chose to not drink!"

Christine rolled her eyes at his remark, but she finally managed to open the bottle of alcohol. A wry grin crept up her features, and she began pouring some of the beer into a glass cup. Tatsuma did the same thing, though after his glass was nearly full, he gulped the beer down his throat.

When he finished his first glass, he gasped for air, and cheered, "That's good beer! Ahahahahaha!" He poured himself another glass.

Christine set her bottle down, and wrapped her hand around the cup before bringing it to her lips.

The girl slowly took a sip of the beverage; Christine scrunched up her face, and hacked, "Geh!"

Tatsuma saw the expression Christine held, and assured, "Don't worry, you'll get used to the taste."

"Sakamoto-san, why – just why – are you letting my sister drink an alcoholic beverage? Don't you know that she could get into huge trouble for this?" Sean demanded as he gave Tatsuma a stern glare.

Tatsuma replied, "She just wants to know what it tastes like! Ahahahahaha!"

While Sean was apparently arguing with Tatsuma (Even though Tatsuma wasn't the kind of person who would argue with anybody), Christine took yet another sip. She scrunched her face up a second time, but she mentally told herself to drink at least one cup of alcohol (Don't ask why). Ever since Christine was little, she had been very curious as to what beer tasted like. Now, she finally found out what it was like.

Christine continued drinking, and before she knew it, she had finished her first cup of alcohol. The girl peered at the bottom of her glass, and thought, What a weird taste. I think I'll try some more.

She poured herself a second glass. Sean caught her, and cried, "Stop drinking! It's bad for your health!"

Christine paid no mind to him, and drank some more beer. Sean groaned, "And you say you hate being ignored. You're kind of a hypocrite, you know that?"

"Oi!" Christine glared daggers at him. "I was concentrating!"

"On what?! You getting drunk?!"

"I'm not going to get drunk!" She retorted.

"Oh really? You should know that the more you drink, the more likely you'll get intoxicated!"

Christine snorted humorlessly.

Tatsuma abandoned his cup, and chose to drink the beer from the bottle itself. Sean rubbed his face with his palms as he prayed, Hopefully, the Shinsengumi won't come here, and catch Christine drinking.

50 minutes later…

Unsurprisingly, Tatsuma was drunk off his butt. He drank about four bottles of beer.

Christine drank about four glasses of beer (Which was actually a whole bottle), but she felt a bit intoxicated. She didn't lie to Sean when she said she wouldn't get drunk, but apparently, she couldn't help herself.

Both Tatsuma and Christine's cheeks were flushed, and Christine placed her elbow on Tatsuma's shoulder as she slurred, "Oi, Sakamoto…a-are you drunk?"

"Of course! Ahahahahaha!" The man croaked. "Are y-you?"

"Me? Nah, I'm just f-feeling a bit h-hot, that's all."

Sean exited out of the men's bathroom, and grumbled, "I can't believe there weren't any paper towels in there." He wiped his wet hands on his brown pants, and released a sigh before heading back to Christine and Tatsuma.

But when he came back, he saw that they were drunk. He wasn't shocked at Tatsuma, simply because he was an adult, but he was horrified when he noticed that Christine was drunk as well. What the hell happened?! She wasn't drunk before Sean went to the bathroom!

Sean hurried walked over to Christine's side, and grasped her shoulders as he yowled, "Sis! You're drunk!"

"No I'm n-not," Christine denied with a goofy smile. "It's h-hot in here!"

"No, no, no, no, NO!" He shook his head violently. "You told me you wouldn't get drunk!"

"Well, it h-happened, bro," She burped. Her head accidentally fell onto Sean's upper arm. Christine added, "N-Now I know how it feels to get d-drunk." A barely audible snicker escaped her lips.

Sean groaned irritably, "You're lucky our parents aren't here. Otherwise they would've grounded you for a month!"

The only response he got was a childish giggle. Sean rolled his eyes, and told the girl, "We're going back to Gintoki-san's place now." With that being said, he gently grabbed her wrist, and wrapped her arm around his shoulders.

Tatsuma took out some cash from his pocket, and dropped it on the table before standing up. Despite how drunk he was (And not to mention that his legs were a bit wobbly), he managed to not fall down.

The trio eventually left Snack Smile; Sean sighed, "I can't believe you, Christine. Drinking alcohol at the age of 16!"

Christine just laughed, "Hehehe, you're funny, bro." She suddenly pushed him away, and wobbled over to Tatsuma.

Tatsuma gave the girl a goofy grin, and slurred, "Oryou, is it just me, o-or did you just get sh-shorter?"

Christine groggily replied, "J-Joshua…is th-that you?"

"Who's Joshua?" Sean deeply frowned.

Tatsuma softly touched Christine's light-brown hair, and mumbled, "Your hair's l-longer than I remember, but I'll let it s-slide. Ahahahahaha!"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, you two! Have your visions gone bad?! Why're you mistaking each other for somebody else?!" Sean hollered.

Christine placed her hand onto Tatsuma's cheek, and whispered, "I don't r-remember you being this tall, J-Joshua."

"Seriously, who is Joshua?! Is he your school crush or something?!" Sean shouted yet again. He honestly didn't remember seeing or meeting any guy named Joshua. The only Joshua he knew was his uncle, but that wasn't saying much, because he rarely ever saw his uncle.

Christine shrugged her shoulders before adding, whispering a second time, "Oh well. I like tall g-guys, anyway."

Sean realized that since Tatsuma was mistaking Christine for Oryou, and Christine was mistaking Tatsuma for some guy called Joshua, he had a horrible feeling that they would do something…preposterous.

Tatsuma also put his bold hand on Christine's cheek, and complimented, "You have s-soft skin, Oryou." He felt Christine's scar; the man arched a brow, and questioned, "When d-did you get a scar?"

"When I was eight, silly Joshua!" Christine laughed hoarsely. "I thought I told you th-that back in m-middle school!"

Two veins popped in Sean's cheek; he clenched his fists as he snapped, "Does this Joshua guy even exist?! Because I don't know anyone named Joshua! And for that matter, how the heck are you mistaking Sakamoto-san with Joshua?! Are you literally blind right now?!"

Neither Christine nor Tatsuma paid any mind to the angry 19-year-old. They inched their faces closer to each other, and to Sean's horror, their lips were connected.

Sean's mouth agape as his eyes widened like saucers. Christine and Tatsuma were fucking kissing! What the fucking hell?!

His eyebrows twitched as beads of sweat poured down his face. Sean mentally screamed, Please tell me this is not happening! Please tell me that Christine isn't really kissing Sakamoto-san!

The brunette placed his hand over his mouth to prevent himself from screaming at the top of his lungs. It was kind of hard to not scream, though, because Tatsuma and Christine were still kissing. Christine raked her fingers through Tatsuma's curled hair as the tall man changed his angle.

Sean decided that this was too much for him. He stormed towards his sister, and the second he stood behind her, he gripped the back of her kimono, and yanked her off of the Kaientai leader.

Sean turned Christine around, forcing her to look at him straight in the eyes. Sean growled, "Don't ever kiss an adult again!" He narrowed his eyes, and quickly added, "Well, until you're an adult as well."

"B-But that was J-Joshua!" Christine grinned.

Sean's vein popped in his neck, and he bellowed, "IT WAS NOT JOSHUA, OKAY?!"

Christine immediately frowned at how loud he was. She stuck a finger in her ear, and muttered, "Jeez, you didn't n-need to be so loud. Now my e-ears are ringing."

An angry sigh escaped his lips, but he grabbed Christine's wrist, and started heading back to Yorozuya Gin-chan. He turned to Tatsuma, and bade him goodbye, "Bye, Sakamoto-san. I hope we'll see each other again." Although he was a bit angry at Tatsuma for kissing Christine (Well, it was also Christine's fault, but still), he actually enjoyed hanging out with him. Of course, because Tatsuma "lived" in space, Sean didn't expect to see him again anytime soon.

Tatsuma replied, "I h-hope so, too. Ahahahahaha!" He turned around, and began to walk back to his ship after adding, "Well, goodbye. Ahahahahaha!"

Sean sighed for the umpteenth time, but glared at Christine while hissing, "I am not letting you drink alcohol again until you're 21!"

Christine only hiccupped.

Sean grumbled inaudible words as he walked down the street.

A few moments passed before the siblings finally returned to Yorozuya Gin-chan.

Christine nearly fell down on the stairs, but luckily, Sean caught her, and pulled her up.

When the duo was in front of the door, Sean grabbed the handle, and opened it before announcing, "We're back!"

The first person that noticed them was Shinpachi. He asked, "How was your stay at Sakamoto-san's ship?"

"It was good," Sean shrugged. "But weren't you worried about us?"

"I was when you called me three days ago," Shinpachi admitted, "but I'm glad you two are alright."

"Of course," The older male nodded briefly. He gazed at the coffee table, and saw that there was a package of make-up. He then peered at Kagura, who was wearing a pink short-sleeved dress.

Sean furrowed a brow, and inquired, "Um…where did you get that dress? And where did this make-up package come from?"

Kagura explained while chewing on her sukonbu, "I was in a rice-eating contest soon after you and weirdo girl left, uh-huh. I won, so I got this."

"Make-up?" Christine hiccupped once more. "I-I want some make-up!"

Shinpachi frowned, and realized, "Did Christiko-san drink alcohol?"

Sean responded, "Unfortunately, yes. Sakamoto-san actually brought us to Snack Smile, and he let my sister drink."

The teenage boy sighed.

Gintoki spoke, "Kagura also won some diamonds, but we were forced to give them to old hag, because the diamonds were valuable." He snorted humorlessly, and grumbled as he rested his chin on his palm, "We could've used those diamonds to show off."

Sean rolled his eyes, but turned to his younger sister, and ordered, "You should take a nap."

"Don't t-tell me what to do, b-bro," Christine pouted, but walked over to one of the couches, anyway.

She sat in the couch Shinpachi was sitting on, and without alarming him, she rested the back of her head onto Shinpachi's lap.

Shinpachi widened his eyes in surprise, but eventually exhaled, "Seriously, Christiko-san, how much did you drink?"

"'Nighty-night," Christine murmured as she closed her eyes, now taking a nap.

The somewhat taller teenager scratched his head, "Now I'm going to have a hard time getting off of the couch."

Sean started towards the kitchen as he thought, Perhaps it's best not to tell the Yorozuya that Christine accidentally kissed Sakamoto-san.

Sean figured that if they found out about that, they would no doubt freak out. So Sean was going to make sure to keep that a secret.

He wanted to forget that, anyway.

And thus concludes the "Kaientai Trip Arc". Bet you didn't expect Christine to kiss Tatsuma, did you? XD But don't worry, Christine won't kiss any other adults in this story.

I actually have a question. In Japan, the legal drinking age is 20. This is just out of curiosity, but if Tae is 18, then why and how does she work at Snack Smile (Which is clearly a bar)? I just realized this not too long ago. o.o

Anyway, I decided that I'm letting you readers ask Sean and Christine questions. You can ask them almost anything. If you have any questions for them, then feel free to ask Christine or Sean. :)

My answer from the previous question: Some of my pet peeves are when some people take one sip of a drink, and then never finish it; and people never throwing their garbage away. -.-"

Question of the update: Saddest anime you've watched?

Hope you enjoyed chapter 36! :)
