"Hit me with it," Joss demanded as she rearranged the Knicks fleece blanket that rested on their laps. She sat on John's lap in the dark brown leather recliner, her right arm wrapped around his neck with her feet hanging over the armrest in red wool socks. It was a cold January evening, quiet in their living room. It was nice growing old with someone, getting to spend quiet evenings like these with the person you were supposed to be with.
He looked at her. "Alright, number six across; a certain cetacean, and it starts with P since we got 'pend' for the six down answer, and it is eight letters long," he said hand poised. They enjoyed doing the crossword together because they had the thing done within minutes when they put their heads together to solve it.
She smirked at him. "That's an easy one, it's porpoise," she said smugly.
John eyed her. "How did you know that?" he wondered.
"Animal Planet, duh." He chuckled as he read a clue for the next one before he scrawled an answer for it immediately. "Okay don't hog the thing, hit me with another one." she tapped his forearm impatiently. She eyed the clock. "Hurry the b-ball game will be on in ten minutes, which means five minutes so I can go grab us some chips and beer."
He frowned as he read the clue first. "This is definitely up your alley, number thirty-five across; it's a 1995 romance movie. It is 5 words long. There is an A, W, and an O already filled in."
"How many letters?" she requested, leaning her head back against the back of the recliner.
"It is sixteen letters long." Joss squeezed her eyes tight trying to go back into time to think about a romance movie back in 1995. Well hell, who remembered a stupid romance flick from the 90s! "Wait, never mind I got it, Joss. It's' A Walk in the Clouds,'" he said before he filled in the crossword. Joss leaned back and eyed him incredulously.
"How the hell did you know that?" she demanded.
He looked at her. "I'll have you know, Joss, I do watch more than just sports on television."
"But it's a romance movie."
"So?—I can't broaden my horizons?"
She smirked. "Jessica forced you to watch it once, didn't she?"
His innocent look turned into a scowl. "Yes, okay, it was a terrible movie but she claimed it was one of her favorites. I was bored out of my mind, she lured me into it when she said it had Keanu Reeves," he grumbled.
She snickered. "Poor baby thought he was going to get to see an action flick."
They fell into silence as they hurried to finish the puzzle before the game started, once it was done they slid the newspaper closed. She took the paper and pen before kissing him soundly as she climbed off of him.
She eyed her wristwatch. "With two minutes to spare, I'll go get the chips and beer while you get the game on." Once she got everything to make game night perfect, she hurried back into their living room and climbed back onto John.
He fixed the blanket back on top of them, snapped open their beers for them both, sneaking an arm around her waist while she leaned her head against his and they clunk the bottlenecks against one another. "Go Knicks," they said and drank for their team because they needed all the help they could get, and got lost in watching the game snuggled up together.
AN: I seriously want to hold these two and never let go. I have been voting my ass off for Jim and Taraji in the People's Choice. I mean they both deserve it for different reasons. Jim because he has to put up with what the show is doing with his character and does the best with what he's given and for being the best damn Captain of our ship. And Taraji because she pulls Cookie off so well and no one else could play her like Taraji can. *sigh* Okay ramble ends now ;D
Thanks for reading XOXOXOXOXOXOX
