A/N: Hey guys! Sorry it's taken awhile for me to update: I was on vacation recently where I didn't have access to a computer, and then I was busy with swim team yesterday and last week / weekend. But I'm back now with your next chapter! Please leave a review when you are done! (Thanks for the ones on the last update, btw!) and Happy Reading! Sibuna!
I DO NOT OWN HOUSE OF ANUBIS. I BOUGHT MANY SOUVINERES ON VACATION, BUT HOA WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. SORRY.
(Eddie's P.O.V. – Still a F.B.)
"D-Danny? What are you doing here?" Nina stammers
The dark haired boy with green eyes smiles. "I think the better question to ask is what you are doing here, Nina Martin? I thought you were missing?" he asks, stepping towards us.
I nudge Nina's arm. Who is this guy?
Nina shakes her head. "Um, Danny…this is my friend Eddie. Eddie, this is Danny…my friend and ex-boyfriend." She explains
Ex-boyfriend? She dated someone after Fabian?
Danny waves. "Nice to meet you Eddie. But you didn't answer my question, Neens. What are you doing here?" he asks
I answer for her. "We're just two friends, hanging out. Nothing more."
Danny looks at Nina quizzically. "Oh. Well that's odd, considering that it's dark out and people get mugged out here all the time, especially during the night…I'm only here because my Dad has a cabin is a mile east." He says
We stand in silence for a moment. Danny must notice the blood stains on my clothing, because he looks at me in terror.
"I heard a gunshot, so I came out. W-what happened?" he asks
"Danny…it's complicated-"Nina starts
"Damn, everything is complicated with you anymore Nina! You made me keep our relationship a secret, you were acting strange as fuck before you "disappeared"…is this some kind of life-crisis? Does this guy have anything to do with it?" he asks, pointing to me.
"No, he hasn't done anything!" she yells. She looks up at me with sad eyes. "Eddie, wait here. I'll be right back."
She stomps forward to Danny. Well…this is awkward. We just murdered a man, and now Nina's talking to her ex-boyfriend in the middle of a desert park thing in the middle of the night. Could this day get any weirder?
"HE WAS CHASING ME ALRIGHT? HE'S BEEN STALKING EDDIE AND I SO I KILLED HIM, THERE! IS THAT A GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER FOR YOU?" Nina suddenly screams.
I quickly run to her. Was that stupid Danny guy antagonizing her?!
"Why was he stalking you? What did he want?" he asks
I place my hands on Nina's shoulders. "It's honestly none of your business. He's dead, and away from both of us. Isn't that all that matters?" I snap.
Danny shrugs. "I guess. So does this mean you can come out from hiding now, Nina?" he questions
She shakes her head, and walks away from me. "No it doesn't. Look Danny, there are some things going on in my life…that I need to figure out, okay? I'm sorry…but I need to stay away. But please…keep what you saw and I told you to yourself, alright? Please, I'm begging you!"
Danny scoffs. "What is there to figure out? Whatever it is, let me help you. Please, Nina. I care about you. Just tell me exactly what's going on and I'll protect you-"
"That won't be necessary. I can handle that." I growl, my Osirian instincts kicking in.
Danny stares at me in awe. Then, he huffs. "You know what, fine. I'll stay away and keep your little secret for you. Have a nice life, Nina."
He shoots me one last dirty look, and then he walks off into the woods.
Nina watches him as he walks away. When she faces me again, I see tears streaming down her face. I go up to her, and pull her into a hug. "I'm sorry." I whisper
She shakes her head, and pulls away from me. "That's okay. Let's just go." She whimpers
We walk through the woods and back to our wrecked car in silence. "So about that crown…" I eventually ask
She sighs. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about it earlier. But…there's this crown…called the Crown of Anubis…and it lets all of the Egyptian afterlife enter the mortal world to take over. That means Senkara…Ammutt…and Anubis himself, would become alive on the planet again." She explains
I shake my head. Another mystery? Really?
"It's made up of these viles…and these viles have to be filled with blood from descendants of the gods…they activate the band / the rim of the crown, which is what is worn on your head. But only a pure evil spirited person can wear the crown. And I mean totally evil…like Victor and your Dad are too pure of heart to wear it. The band is made from the top rim of the Cup of Ankh, so I already have it. When the viles are put on it, it expands so it can be worn. That's why all these people have been chasing me…to get the rim from me." She adds
"So…it's a pretty big deal?" I ask
She nods. "Bigger than what happened with Ammutt, Senkara, and everything with Rufus combined. Eddie, if someone gets all 16 blood viles filled, the world is literally doomed."
Wow…this is bad…really bad…wow...
"So what are we going to do? I mean, do we destroy it or what?" I question
Nina shakes her head. "No, it's indestructible, it can't be destroyed. But if we can collect all of the viles, then we can hide them where they will never be found. As for the rim…I guess we'll just have to keep the Cup protected forever."
I raise an eyebrow at her. "Well where do you suppose we hide it?"
"My Uncle Paul owns a Yacht in San Francisco. We can sail out deep into the Pacific Ocean and dump them there…maybe put them all in a bag and weigh it down so it sinks to the bottom…so far that's all I've got." She suggests
I nod. We continue to walk in silence, until we reach our car.
"I'm afraid there's going to be a bomb in it or something." Nina mumbles
I peer in the windows of the car- it doesn't look like Winkler broke in or anything. "I think it's good." I say
Nina nods, and slides in the driver's seat. I walk around the car, and sit down on the passenger's seat.
"Are you okay to drive?" I question, seeing that a few tears are still falling from her eyes.
She throws her head back and laughs lightly. "After everything that's happened tonight, are you?" she says, almost jokingly.
Well…I mean, we did kill a man…and we were almost killed ourselves…yeah, I'm a little to shaky and on edge to drive a car.
I shake my head. Nina sighs, and flops her head down on the steering wheel. "I just want this to be all over." She groans.
I reach over, and brush a piece of her hair out of her eyes. "Hey, it's okay. This will all be over soon enough. Nina you've been so brave…we're so close to Canada, we can make it- I know we can."
She nods. "I know…but I'm ready to give up. I'm sick of this…I'm sick of being the chosen one-"
"Hey enough! Look…this is a tricky situation, I know. I want to be done too…but we can do this. Together. We've dealt with crazier mysteries before…I know we can get through this one too!" I interrupt.
Nina fidgets in her seat, and stares into my eyes. "But none of that…none of that compares to what's going on now. I'm too weak to be doing any of this-"
"You're not weak, Nina, I swear you're not. You're tough, you're strong, you're beautiful…you're a good person. If anyone can fight off these evil stalkers, it's you, alright?"
She stares into my eyes, and I stare back into hers. I've never noticed what pretty eyes she has before…and such a sweet smile…she looks so vulnerable now that she's a crying mess, it is honestly melting my heart.
I don't even process what happens next. She leans forward, and presses her lips to mine. At first, I want to pull away- I do have a girlfriend who I am deeply in love with after all. But this kiss…it feels sweet. It feels…right. I kiss her back, and place my hand on the small of her back.
I continue to kiss her…
(Eddie's P.O.V.)
I snap back into reality, and fall backwards against a tree. I slide down alongside it, and slump down on to the ground in a ball. Whoa…did I just see all of that? Nina and I killed someone? We kissed?! Her ex-boyfriend showed up? Oh my god, this is just…ahhh!
Nina comes running over to me from her field of golden flowers, her short white dress flowing in the wind. "Eddie, what happened? Are you okay?" she asks
I reach for her hand, and show her the several-minute-long-memory in just a few seconds. After she sees it, her eyes grow wide.
"Oh my god…" she stammers.
"I know…we're murderers…" I whisper
She looks at me in disgust. "No, not that. I mean that's pretty bad but…ewwww…I KISSED YOU!" she shrieks.
A couple of other ghosts nearby stare at us in confusion. I look back to Nina and sigh. "Yeah, I know it's bad. But let's focus on the fact that we killed one of the persons who was stalking us, and yet we still ended up murdered ourselves." I suggest.
Nina nods. "Well, okay. We know we killed Winkler, yet we still ended up...here. That's got to mean something, right? Maybe Winkler was so evil, us killing him was actually a good thing. (To god, that is.) But maybe whoever he was working with…you know, to get the crown and etc. from us figured out what we did, and killed us as a punishment?"
I let her words sink in. That is a distinct possibility that Winkler had some help in stalking Nina and I, and it was one of them who killed us…
"God, I wish there was something we could do. I wish I could remember something else…" I stammer
Suddenly, a ghost from afar walks up to Nina and I. She has long, thick, brown hair that hangs loosely in bouncy curls. She has peach skin, and brown eyes. She's wearing a strapless, poufy brown mini dress and no shoes. She looks like she might have been just a few years older than us when she died.
"Hi, I'm Courtney. I'm sorry if this creeps you out, but I was eavesdropping on you, and I heard you say something about wishing you could do something? Anyway, are you trying to help someone on earth figure out who sent you here?"
Nina and I look at each other, and then at the girl speaking to us. Her brown eyes look sincere, like she really wants to help us.
"Um, yeah...we want to help my one friend on earth figure out what happened to us. I'm tired of sitting back and doing nothing." I say
Courtney nods. "Understandable. I felt the same way when I was first sent here. Do you know who killed you?"
"N-no." Nina stammers
"Okay. Well, I don't know if you knew this, but there is a way you can sort of help your loved ones solve your murders. Every time there is a full moon back on earth, you may insert a dream into one persons memory. It can only last five minutes, and it can't give away too much information-"
"Whoa, whoa wait. Insert a dream? How do we do that?" I ask Courtney, cutting her off.
"I was getting there. When someone whoever you chose to insert the dream into is sleeping, ask for their image in the bowl. Then, think of what you want to show and tell them. Then, you brush your hand over their brain (in the bowl) and let the dream slip from your head into your hand, and into that person. It sounds confusing I know, but trust me, it works and is quite easy." She explains.
I stare at Nina in excitement. We can give dreams to people? Oh my gosh, wow!
"I know, you're probably really excited to learn all of this. But there are a few rules for inserting dreams. First, you can't expose too much information, because it'll show that you are still with whoever you give the dream to, and it will give this place away. It's a stupid rule, but you have to follow it. Also, you can't blatantly say something without giving proof or evidence to support the claim. For example, if you knew who your murderer was, you can't just say that it was them in the dream without an explanation. If your person believes the dream, they have to have evidence to go along with your claim, thus they will not be able to serve you justice. The last rule goes hand-in-hand with the first rule, but it is also the worst one: you are not allowed to tell your person where you are, or give any details about this place and how you are doing in the next life. If you follow these rules, you can successfully insert a dream into the mind of someone you love. It has helped so many people get their cases solved so they can move on to an even better heaven."
I nod, and cling on to every word that escapes Courtney's mouth. Inserting dreams. How come no one told us about that sooner? Why did I never think that we could do something that?
"Why does it have to be during every full moon?" Nina questions
Courtney shrugs. "I don't know, rules are rules. I'm sorry, but that's all I know. Oh, and there is going to be a full moon tonight, so I would start thinking about what you want to insert and who you want to give the dream to."
I light up like a Christmas tree. Tonight?! Tonight I can insert a dream?! YESS!
Nina and I thank Courtney enormously, who wishes us luck in return. As she walks away from us, I face Nina in utter excitement.
"Who are you going to pick?" we say to each other at the same time.
"Olivia." I reply.
Well...she's the only one who knows we're dead, and I know that whatever I show her, she'll put to good use to find Nina and I's killer(s).
"I don't know who I'm going to pick. I'm still excited that we can insert dreams into actual people's minds!" Nina exclaims.
I smile at her. I am pretty excited about this news too. But I know so much, yet so little of what happened to me and why I'm here. What am I going to show to Olivia? Will she even think anything about what I tell her, or will she think it's just a weird dream? I guess I'll just have to show her something good...
(Olivia's P.O.V.)
"Look, there's a full moon tonight!" Willow cheers, gazing out of our bedroom window.
I shrug, and settle into my bed. Who cares about full moons? Astronomy is stupid in my opinion…
"Good night guys." Joy mumbles as she flops on to her bed, turning her lamp off.
I reach over and turn my lamp off as well, and snuggle into my bed. "Good night guys." I repeat.
"Yeah, goodnight!" Willow chirps, as she walks from the window to her bed.
I'm tired, but I feel restless. I toss and turn, and close my eyes. Eventually, I fall fast asleep…
I'm standing in an unfamiliar hotel room. I look out the window towards the back, to see downtown L.A. Wait…is this the Ritz-Carlton?
Unexpectedly, the door to the room opens, and Nina and Eddie walk inside.
Surprise floods my body. "E-Eddie? N-Nina?" I stammer, walking towards me.
They ignore me. "Guys?" I call out again.
Nothing. They just brush by me, and make themselves cups of hot coffee. Then, they sit on the large leather couch in the middle of the room.
"Eddie? Nina? Can you hear me?" I yell again, following them to the couch.
They continue to ignore me, as if I'm invisible. What the hell is this?
"Eddie, it's me!" I scream. I reach over to shake his shoulders; he doesn't even move, he just sits there sipping his coffee.
What the fuck is this?!
"So what exactly has been happening? I want to know everything." Eddie blurts.
Wha, huh? What does he mean by that? What's going on?
Nina takes a sip of her coffee, and shrugs. "When I got in the taxi leaving the House to the Airport last year, I got a text from an anonymous number saying that if I didn't give them the mask and the cup, that they would kill you, Fabian, Patricia, Amber, and Alfie. I didn't want you to worry, so I tried to keep myself as far away from you all as possible..."
My eyes grow wide. What? Wha…who sent her that? Is this for real?!
Eddie scoffs. "Seriously Nina? My job is to protect you, not let you run around and get yourself involved in more trouble! Why the hell did you not tell me?!" he snaps.
Geesh, this is intense! When did all of this happen? Was this where Eddie went after he left my house the last time I saw him alive?!
Nina sighs. "Eddie, there is nothing that I love more than all of you. I would do anything for you all- even if it meant dying to protect you guys." she whimpers, a tear sliding down her cheek.
Eddie reaches his arms out, and pulls her into a hug. Were they good friends? Did they like each other, despite the fact that they had some weird Egyptian connection to one another?
Nina sniffles, and then pulls away from Eddie. "I've tried to come up with escape plans, but they fail every time." she whispers.
Escape plans? Why wouldn't she have just called the police?
"What have you tried?" Eddie questions.
"Well, these people, whoever they are, have tried to get the cup and mask and or kill me multiple times. I've tried to flee the country, or go somewhere they'd never think I'd go. Eddie, they stalk me. One time, they tried to run my car off of a cliff, and there was a cop behind them. The cop pulled them over, but I kept driving..."
Holy fucking shit! Oh my god…how did I not know any of this? How come I hadn't figured all of that out? When and where did this happen? I am such a failure as a detective!
"Holy shit..." Eddie whispers
"Let me finish. This happened in Montana, and I stayed in a motel that night. I turned on the TV, and heard that they were given a felony. The police report didn't mention their names, but they did say that they had escaped and were on the run somewhere." Nina explains
"But if the police captured them, why didn't you go to them and demand you know who tried to kill you?" Eddie asks, clearly alarmed.
"Nina, who was it? Who did this to you? Tell me!" I shriek.
She does nothing, and neither does Eddie. I groan in frustration; why can't they hear me?!
"Believe me, I did. But they wouldn't. They said it was classified information." Nina says, while rolling her eyes.
They both sit there in silence, sipping their coffee. God, how did all of that happen to her? This is just so crazy…
"Wait, you said those people got felonies, right?" Eddie asks.
Nina nods. "Yeah, why?"
"I think… that after someone is convicted of a felony, it's required that they have to stay in the country for 90 days. If we could get to Mexico or Canada-"
Yep, that's right! Wow, he actually did pay attention to me when I told him about general law! Yay, I rubbed off on him!
"We can turn them in from there! I'm sure they'd follow us, so we can report them! Eddie, that's genius!" Nina exclaims
Okay, all of her traveling and running around must have killed her brain cells because Eddie Miller is no genius. At all. He didn't learn his basic multiplication tables until sixth grade, when I had them memorized in second. It is a good plan though- but they should've come to me instead…
Eddie nods. "You know, I told my mom I was going to Mexico with some friends. We could go there and hide. Although I think I forgot my passport..."
"Yeah no shit dumbass! That's how I knew you were missing and lying to everyone about being in Mexico!" I snap, even though I know he can't hear me. He really is an idiot…
"No, Mexico is too obvious. It's a three hour drive to the border, they know that's where we'd run first. If we're going to another country, it has to be Canada. It's a longer drive, but they'd have a harder time tracking us down." Nina explains
"THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU NOT COME TO KCI! WE WOULD HAVE HELPED YOU!" I scream. Ugh, how could they have been so stupid?!
"Okay. But like you said, it's a longer drive- that gives them more of a chance to come after us." Eddie says.
Nina laughs. "Not if we have different identities."
I laugh. Omg, what?
"What do you mean?" Eddie questions
"Well, I applied for a fake passport and birth certificate through a gang I met in the corn fields of Ohio; since then I haven't been caught as much. I'm sure we could find someone here to make something for you."
Yeah, always let gangs give you a fake passport. Border security won't catch you or anything…
Eddie nods. "Let's leave tomorrow night. That'll give me time to find someone who can get me set up, and enough time to recuperate before we travel. Sound like a plan?" I say
"Yeah, but it's a stupid one." I mutter
Nina nods. "It's a plan."
Then, the room starts spinning, and I fall down. Eddie and Nina's faces disappear, and I am thrown into a dark blue mist. It swirls around me like a tornado, and I am flying around in it helplessly. I start screaming frantically, but when I open my mouth no sound comes out. Oh my god, what is this?
The blue mist suddenly vanishes, and drops me down towards a patch of dirt. Silently screaming, I land on the ground with a loud thud. Dirt poofs up around me, exploding all over my hair and PJ's. Wait a minute- why am I wearing my PJ's in public?
Speaking of public, where am I? I stand up, and look around. It's the middle of the night. Around me is an area that looks like the Grand Canyon, but is too small to be it. In front of me is a large chasm. Where am I? What is this?
"Shit!" I hear someone hiss.
I turn around, to see two silhouettes running towards me. When they come into view, I gasp: it's Nina and Eddie.
"Guys!" I scream.
What are they doing here? Why were they running? What is going on? Wait…is this when and where they died?!
They look around frantically, like they're searching for any ways of escape. But what are they trying to escape from? Is someone after them?
"Guys, what is going on?" I yell.
They ignore me yet again. Gosh, why the hell can they not hear me?!
Suddenly, another person comes into view. He is unfamiliar to me: he is wearing all black clothes, has brown hair, and white skin. He's kind of cute…but why is he chasing Nina and Eddie?
Eddie forces Nina behind him in a protective stance. She clutches his right arm firmly, while in his other hand, he holds out a gun. Wait...is that the gun he bought that I saw on the credit card purchases?!
The man laughs wickedly. "You're about as smart as your Father, Osirian. You're standing at the edge of a cliff, with nothing but a small gun. Do you really think it would be that hard for me to push both of you over?" he asks, with a thick British accent.
I shudder. Who is this guy? Am I about to watch Nina and Eddie's lives end?!
A gun shot pierces the air. I jump, and notice that Eddie just pulled the gun's trigger. The mysterious man dives out of the way, dodging the bullet. Eddie shoots at him a couple more times, until he runs out of bullets
"Eddie, run!" I scream. Oh my god, this is it! This is where they die!
The man laughs again loudly. "Oh, out of bullets are you? Guess your even less powerful now, Osirian." He hisses
"What do you want, Winkler?" Eddie yells.
Winkler?! Winkler?! Oh my god, Winkler! The teacher…the backstabber…the guy who Krista found out is dead! Oh my god, he killed Eddie and Nina! Oh my…what?!
He- Winkler, looks at Eddie dumbfounded. "Really? Are you that stupid? I want the Mask of Anubis, the Cup of Ankh, and the rim to the Crown of Anubis. That's what all of my friends and I want. Why? We want to be immortal, and you two are standing in our way. And we need your blood to fill some of the viles to the crown."
I blink my eyes viciously. His friends? Does that mean there was more than one person after Nina and Eddie?
"Look, we don't know what this crown is! So why don't you just leave us alone!" Eddie shouts.
Winkler laughs again. "Ask your Chosen One about the crown, Osirian. She knows all about it."
Eddie looks at Nina, whose face is red from embarrassment. "That's what I was going to talk to you about before all of this happened..." she murmurs
Wait…Eddie didn't know about the crown? Huh?
Winkler cocks an eyebrow at them. "Well, are you going to give me what I desire, or not?" he demands
Eddie shakes his head. Then, Winkler lunges at him.
"Eddie!" I yell. I run towards Winkler, and lunge at his back. When my body collides with his, I fall off instantly and hit the ground. Dammit!
Eddie suddenly pushes Nina off to the side, making her fall to the ground with a thud. He tosses her the gun, and then he attacks Winkler.
He swings his fist at his nose, hitting him so hard blood gushes out of it. I stand back, knowing that there is nothing I can do to help him. This is it, I'm about to watch my best friend die.
Winkler grunts, and forces Eddie to the ground. Eddie does his best to put up a fight, but he can't get Winkler off of him. He wraps his hands around Eddie's throat, and attempts to suffocate him.
"NOOO!" I scream, covering my gaping mouth.
Eddie cranes his neck, and bite Winkler's hand so hard it draws blood. He lets go of Eddie's neck, screaming in pain.
Relief floods my body. "YEAH EDDIE! KICK HIS ASS!" I cheer
He scrambles to his feet, and kicks him in the ribs. Winkler lets out a moan in pain, before he sticks out his foot, knocking Eddie over.
"Shit!" I mutter under my breath.
Eddie reaches up and smacks his cheek. Winkler responds by pressing his elbows down on Eddie's chest, and by resting his feet on his hands, and his butt on his stomach. He has him pinned; there is no way Eddie can escape now.
"Eddie." I choke. Tears are forming in my eyes. This is it, this is how he died. Winkler killed him. I don't know if I can watch this…
"You're a fool, Osirian. You and your clan may have won before, but we win now. Anything you want to say before I kill you?"
"Don't give up Eddie! Fight back!" I hiss, even though I know it will do no good.
Suddenly, I hear a gunshot go off. Winkler's face goes still, and he falls over on top of Eddie. What the?
Then I see Eddie push Winkler off of the cliff. "YESS!" I scream. Then realization hits me: Eddie killed Winkler. Eddie is the murder KCI is trying to find. Holy shit!
Nina is standing above Eddie, holding the gun. So she helped Eddie kill Winkler. Okay, so KCI is looking for her too…great!
Before I can see what happens next, the blue tornado of mist engulfs me yet again. This time I know what to expect, so I just relax my muscles as it tosses me around.
Then, Eddie appears in the mist. He is wearing nothing but white, and he looks pale. Am I seeing him…dead?!
"Eddie." I whisper.
He smiles at me, but then his facial expression changes drastically. He looks pained, he looks…scared.
"Olivia, I don't have much time. Remember everything I just showed you. You have to help me Via, you have to!" he cries
I reach my arm out, and try to grab him. "What do you mean you don't have much time? Stay here and tell me what happened to you!" I shriek.
He takes my hand in his, and rubs his thumb gently over my palm.
"I can't, because I don't know. That's why I need your help. Find out what happened to me. Please, I need you to do this!" he exclaims.
I nod. "Okay, I will." I choke.
He smiles at me one more time, before he vanishes into the mist. "No, come back!" I yell.
Suddenly the blue tornado of mist disappears, and I am free falling into nothing.
I bolt upright in my bed, breathing heavily. Oh my god, it was just a dream! A fucked up, scary dream!
Sweat drips down from my forehead on to my cheeks. Wow, that was the weirdest dream I've ever had!
Willow and Joy are still sound asleep in their beds- I'm glad I didn't wake anyone up screaming. I glance at my alarm clock next to my bed: 11:30, it reads. Hm, I fell asleep at 11:25...that nightmare only lasted five minutes? Wow, it sure as hell felt like longer!
Once I've calmed down, I lay my head down on my pillow, and pull my comforter up to my chin. After that dream, I'm kind of scared to go back to sleep...
I toss and turn, despite the frequent yawns that escape my lips. Finally, I lay flat on my back, and stare up at the ceiling. "It was just a dream." I whisper to myself.
A dream- a nightmare. Nothing more. I sigh, and turn over on to my side. It was just a nightmare...just a nightmare...a nightmare...nightmare...night...
And then I'm asleep again.
