They watched as the bomb hurtled towards them, and was caught at the last moment by Jack's light beam. Katerina grinned, as she saw Jack sitting on top of the bomb.
"Doctor!" He called down.
"Good lad!" The Doctor approved.
"The bomb's already commenced detonation. I've put it in stasis but it won't last long" Jack told him.
"Change of plan. Don't need the bomb. Can you get rid of it, safely as you can?" The Doctor asked, as he nodded.
"Kat?" Jack announced.
"Yeah?" She called back.
"I wish I could have gotten to know you more…Goodbye" He grinned, before disappearing.
Katerina felt a lump in her throat, as she realised what he was planning to do.
"What are you doing?" Rose asked, brining Katerina's attention back to the Doctor.
"Software patch. Going to email the upgrade. You want moves, Rose? I'll give you moves" The Doctor grinned, as he threw the nanogenes at the waiting patients who all fell to the ground.
"Everybody lives, Rose. Just this once, everybody lives!" The Doctor cheered, as the patients rose up, all back to normal.
"Not everyone" Katerina mumbled, thinking about Jack.
"The nanogenes will clean up the mess and switch themselves off, because I just told them to. Nancy and Jamie will go to Doctor Constantine for help, ditto. All in all, all things considered, fantastic!" The Doctor announced, when they went back to the TARDIS.
"Look at you, beaming away like you're Father Christmas" Rose laughed.
"Who says I'm not, red bicycle when you were twelve?" The Doctor replied.
"What?" Rose frowned, dumbfounded.
"And everybody lives, Rose! Everybody lives! I need more days like this" He grinned.
"Doctor" Katerina stated.
"Go on, ask me anything. I'm on fire" He went on.
"What about Jack? Save him" Katerina insisted.
"He made his choice" The Doctor exclaimed.
"C'mon, Doctor. You chose your companion…great choice, by the way. But I get to choose the next" Katerina went on.
"Do I have to?" The Doctor rolled his eyes.
"Yes. Let's go get my companion" Katerina cheered.
Katerina opened the doors to find Jack telling his computer about the time he woke up in bed with his executioners and couldn't help but laugh.
"Good story, Jack. But I'm going to save your life now. Hurry up" Katerina grinned, as she ushered him towards her.
He quickly rushed inside the ship, instantly being shocked by the size of the TARDIS.
"Welcome aboard, Captain" Katerina grinned, as she watched Rose try to teach the Doctor how to dance.
"I'm sure I used to know this stuff. Close the door, will you? Your ship's about to blow up. There's going to be a draught" The Doctor told Jack, who went to close the doors, as the Doctor sent them off.
"This is the TARDIS" The Doctor informed him.
"Much bigger on the inside" Jack stated.
"You'd better be" The Doctor glared at him.
"He's just in a bad mood because he's not as good a dancer as he remembered" Katerina smirked.
"Rose! I've just remembered! I can dance! I can dance!" The Doctor beamed, as he strolled forward and took her in his arms.
"When they get like this, I usually leave them to it. Otherwise I might throw up" Katerina whispered to Jack, as she pulled him away.
"Don't I get a dance?" Jack winked.
"Maybe later" Katerina laughed, as she pulled him down a nearby corridor.
"And…I think this must be your room" Katerina announced, as they came to a door with the name Jack written on it.
"How…?" Jack queried, in amazement.
"This ship is alive. And I think she must like you" Katerina informed him, as she opened the door to his room.
Katerina pouted as she saw it was bigger than her own room, as she took in the large king-sized bed and blue walls.
"Would you care to join me?" Jack smirked, as Katerina rolled her eyes.
"Goodnight, Captain" She laughed.
A few days later, Katerina woke up with a start, gasping for air. She had a nightmare, which seemed to be a normal occurrence for her these days. Most of the time they were about all the people she had left behind on Gallifrey, but tonight was different. She heard the same screams she had first heard when she looked into the Time Vortex. She stumbled out of bed, and made her way to the kitchen, as she knew she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. She slipped into the kitchen quietly, as she poured some water from the tap. She let out a squeak when the light was suddenly turned on, and whipped her head around to see who had startled her.
"What a surprise to see you here" Jack smirked at her, only wearing a thin top and boxers.
"Jesus, you almost gave me a heart attack" Katerina sighed, clutching at her chest.
"I'm pretty sure the hearts on the left side" Jack frowned.
"Well I've got two" Katerina replied, taking a sip of her drink.
"You're kidding?!...Have you got two of anything else?" Jack asked, with a grin.
Katerina picked up a bag of crisps from beside her and chucked them at him, hitting him directly in the chest.
"Jerk" She laughed.
"So, what are you doing up at this hour?" Jack queried.
"I could ask you the same thing, Captain" Katerina retorted, as Jack hopped on the kitchen top beside her.
"Nightmares" He shrugged, as he grabbed her glass and took a sip.
"Same here" She sighed.
"So, the Doctor's a Time Lord, so I'm guessing you are two?" Jack suggested, as Katerina jumped on the table opposite him.
"Wrong again. Different species" She admitted.
"So…he's not your brother?" Jack queried, confused.
"Adopted brother" Katerina clarified.
"Ah, so no family of your own then?" Jack inquired.
"Nope. You?" She asked.
"My mother might still be alive. Apart from that, no" He answered.
"Where's home for you?" Katerina questioned.
"Boeshane Peninsula, born and raised. And I'm guessing Gallifrey for you?" Jack stated, as she nodded.
"So, I've got a confession to make. I looked you up on the TARDIS records and…" Katerina trailed off.
"Captain Jack Harkness isn't my real name. Nice detective work, if a little paranoid" He approved.
"So what is your real name?" Katerina frowned.
"Jack. Just Jack" He informed her.
"Well, Just Jack. I think the Captain thing suits you" Katerina grinned, as she opened a pack of biscuits.
"Its 3am" Jack laughed, as he watched her eat.
"Hey, in the TARDIS, time is only a concept" She retorted.
"Speaking of. How did you two get this ship?" Jack asked.
For the rest of that night, the two swapped stories, getting to know each other better, and feeling more comfortable. They only realised it was morning when Rose came in for her breakfast, surprised to see the pair chatting. She had to bite her lip not to laugh from the way that Katerina was blushing.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Could I please get some more reviews:)
Andrey258: There wasn't as much emotion in their reunion because they don't know each other very well at the moment, if that makes sense. They loved each other when they were kids, but now they're adults, and are very different from how they used to be. But don't worry, as the seasons progress they will grow even closer than they were on Gallifrey.
