Even If...

Chapter 36

Previously~ Lilly explains the past to Tonks. Sirius and Lilly talk to Miah in the garden. Miah tell Remus to try a relationship with Tonks. Sirius blows up at Remus for not wanting Miah to move on.

Lilly after leaving the boys in the kitchen headed to Miah room to see if she was alright after talking with Remus in the kitchen. She knocked lightly on the door before pushing it open. Finding her bed empty she turned to leave, before spotting someone sitting in the window seat.

She entered the room, lightly tapping Miah on the shoulder to get her attention. Miah turned her head slightly before moving her feet to make room for Lilly to sit next to her.

"Are you OK?" Lilly asked.

"I'm not sure," Miah said turning her head to look back out the window, "I know that I told him to move on, and that he should try things with Tonks. But what if things really work out between them. What if he's happier with her than he ever was with me?"

"Everything has a season," Lilly said, "you and Remus were happy together in the past. Perhaps the season has changed and you'll find someone who will love you more than Remus ever could, someone that you'll love just as much as he loves you. And perhaps things won't work out between Remus and Tonks. Perhaps their season has passed. Only time can tell, but you already told him to try. So if he tries and it works out you can't suddenly change your mind and want him back."

Miah didn't say anything right away, she knew that she'd sealed her fate by telling him to try with Tonks. "I know I can't take back my words," Hermione said turning to face Lilly once more, "I don't plan to, I meant what I said, he should try things out with Tonks. But I also meant what I said about being his forever if things didn't work out between them. Besides its not like we can be together now anyway, technically I'm only 16."

"It must be tough," Lilly said putting her arm around her friend, "I can't imagine what you must be feeling."

"I'm not sure that you want to feel how I'm feeling right now," Miah said, "I feeling sad, lonely, and confused. Not to mention that if I hadn't pushed Remus away when we were in the kitchen you may have walked in on more than arguing."

"Ah," Lilly said with a knowing smile, "I imagine that seeing him again after all this time that you still want to jump his bones."

"That and more," Miah said with a wistful smile. She couldn't help but remember how things used to be between them.

"Now I know it must be tough," Lilly said with a sigh.

"You've no idea how tough it was to be stuck in a house with you, James and little Harry. Specially at night, I hope you've learned how to use a Silencing charm." Miah said with a smirk, before hiding her smile behind her hand.

"Really," Lilly said with a bit of a blush, "you heard all that?"

"And more," Miah said hiding a blush, "I have to admit that I used to think about Remus while listening. It sounds bad when I say it out loud."

"Nothing to be ashamed of," Lilly said, "You were lonely, missing your husband, while stuck with house mates that didn't have the courtesy to use a silencing charm."

"Now it sounds really bad when you put it that way," Miah said. The girls shared a laugh, before Lilly declared that she was going back to bed.

Miah sat in the window, till the sun started to rise. It wasn't until the sky turned pink that she climbed back into bed, hiding under the covers. She allowed sleep to over take her, dreaming of the her time in school with Remus. She dreamed about many, many things that they'd done together.

The boys and Ginny were awake and down stairs around 9 in the morning. The found Tonks and Lilly in the kitchen. Tonks was sitting at the table, while Lilly was preparing breakfast.

"Where's Dad?" Harry asked.

"Oh, you know how your father likes to sleep in on Sundays," Lilly said placing a big stack of pancakes on the table. "What are you waiting for, sit down."

"Where's Hermione?" Harry asked.

"Still in bed," Ginny said, "I don't think she slept to well last night."

"Oh," the three boys said dejectedly.

"Lilly are you sure they're not triplets or something?" Tonks asked jokingly.

"It's hard to tell these days," Lilly said with a smile, "I'm glad that he has such good friends."

It wasn't long before, Sirius and James wandered into the kitchen in search of food. "I was wondering how long it would be before you two wandered in," Lilly said.

"We could smell the bacon," James said, giving his wife a hug around the waist. "You know how I feel about bacon."

"Any food really," Sirius finished as he hugged her from the other side.

"Is there something you'd like to tell me?" Harry said, interrupting them.

"Depends on what you want to know?" James said.

"Are you two brothers or something," Harry asked, "You act like brothers."

"I guess in a sense we are," James said, "Sirius moved into the house when we were about 16. We've been friends since First year, before that really. So I guess you could say we're brothers."

"Good to know," Harry said, "I knew there was a reason that Sirius was Uncle instead of just Sirius."

"Damn right," Sirius exclaimed.

"What did I miss?" Remus asked as he stumbled into the kitchen.

"Nothing really," Sirius said, "Harry asked if we were really brothers or something."

"Ah yes," Remus said, "these two have been connected at the hip since First year."

"What about you Uncle Remus?" Harry asked.

"I guess you could say that the three of us not excluding Peter were great friends," Remus said, "Though that changed the night you survived You-Know-Who."

"I see," Harry said, not sure what else to say.

Hermione stood in the doorway not sure if she should make her self known or not. She imagined that she could lighten the setting a bit by telling a joke about 5th year. But then she would have to explain how she knew it. Was she ready to tell her best friends yet? Was she ready to relive it?

She stepped into the kitchen, "James," Miah said, "do you remember that time I screamed at you for trying to steal my chocolate cake?"

"How could I forget," James said, "You nearly tore my head off for not asking; But then this lovely lady told me to ask next time, as she cut the piece in half and shared it with me. Made quite a scene she did."

"Yes, well, you know how I feel about chocolate cake," she said shrugging her shoulders.

"Would you really cut off my hand if I tried to steal a piece again?" James asked.

"Are you dumb enough to try it," she asked with a smirk.

Before James could answer, Harry stood up, "Who are you and what have you done with Hermione?" he demanded.

"Ah, I suppose I have to explain now," Miah said looking at him intently.

"Well, Yeah," Ron and Neville said.

"It happened like this," Miah started, "I travel back in time nearly 2 months ago. While I was gone only a few seconds here, I was there for nearly 7 years."

"How is that possible?" Harry asked.

"I don't know," Miah said, "even Dumbledore can't figure it out. However when I went back I didn't know I was from the future. I only knew my name, I remembered what we had learned in class, but I knew nothing else. I landed in 5th year, with your parents and Sirius and Remus. I lived with your mothers family during the summer and over the winter holidays. It wasn't until the confrontation with Lord Moldyshorts that I was sent back to where I belonged. Though I wish I could return to the past again because now that I'm back I don't feel I belong here."

"There's more to it though isn't there?" Harry asked, "Is that the reason you've changed your hair and why you've been so sad?"

"I honestly don't know how I lived with my hair bushy like that, when it would have been so easy to tame. And I've been through school once already, and I know I need to keep my grades up, I don't feel the need to cram it all into my head again, as all the information I learned is still there. Though I know I have to play my part, I think it's time for a bit of a change," Miah said, "and could you please call me Miah, Hermione is so long, I've missed being called Miah."

"Sure," Harry said, "Miah. Are you going to tell us why you were sad?"

"Later," was all she said before she filled her plate. Remus who was finished, got up and left the table. He put his dish in the sink before disappearing to the library.

Tonks who was openly confused about his behavior watched him leave the room. Miah continued to stare at her fork for a moment or two before she continued to eat. She didn't look up, because she didn't want to see how sad anyone looked.

James and Sirius felt a little angry at Remus for how he was acting; but only because neither of them understood how he was feeling. Sirius could kind of understand, as he too had the same person ripped from him. A person he loved, more than he had ever loved before. But Sirius had a better chance of getting ahead in the game this time around. This time around, Sirius could possible get all he ever wished for. If he could just get her to forget about Remus. True love is hard to forget though, so her choosing him might be a long time coming. Not like he didn't have the time.

Tonks looked at Hermione curiously, What is she thinking? Tonks asked in her mind. Oh how she would like to know what that girl was thinking right this moment. She knew that Remus had a previous lover, but he didn't know that the love that he lost so many years ago would show up in the form of a 16 year old child. She didn't know that this girl, who had 'Died' so many years ago would be the girl that she had come to like and admire.

Sure this Hermione looked the same as the old; but this girl, she was different. The way she talked, the way she carried herself, the way she fixed her hair so that it wasn't so bushy. The way that she knew things that only someone who grew up with the Marauders would know. The way that she was affected when Remus was in the room. That was certainly different from before.

"Hermione," Ron said before correcting himself, "Miah, Sorry."

"Yes Ron?" Miah asked.

"I was wondering," Ron said slowly trying to get his words right that they didn't sound like an insult. "You say you went to school with Harry's dad and everyone right?"

"Right," Miah said not seeing where this was going.

"Well I was wondering," he said, "why did you insist that Harry lead the DA?"

"I was asked to act like nothing was different," Miah said after taking a sip of water, "Dumbledore asked me to act as if nothing had changed from the way I was before I disappeared. But the truth is that I don't remember how to act like her. I don't see how I could have let my hair go for so long. Why do I spend so much time on books and reading when I can memories it the first time I look at it? Why did I do anything the way that I do?"

No one answered, as they didn't have the answer. She cleared her place, after quietly asking to be excused. She had planned to go to the library but it was occupied, so the garden would have to do.

"Where do you think she went?" Neville asked trying to diffuse the tension in the room. Though it was true that Hermione was Hermione. They found that the Hermione they used to know and this Hermione or Miah really was totally different that before. It wasn't until the Yule Holiday that they had actually figured it out.

Time slipped by slowly, to slowly for any sane person to take. "I'm so BORED!" Ron complained, "there has to be something to do around here."

"We could go flying," Neville said.

"Neville you hate flying," Harry groused.

"We could play Exploding Snap," Ron said.

"We just played that this morning," Harry said again.

"You could invite the Weasley twins over, for a game of Quidditch," Miah said from the door way, "Neville and I will watch from the ground of course because we don't fly; but I bet your father and Sirius perhaps even Tonks would join if you asked nice enough."

"HERMIONE!" the three of them yelled at the same time, jumping in fright. She just gave them a stony glare, "Uh... sorry Miah."

"That's better," Miah said, "I'll break you of the habit yet."

"You can try," Ron said with a huff, "but we'll most likely forget again."

Miah laughed at them, "Shall we go and ask your parents if we can invite the Twins over? Or perhaps we can invite the entire clan over. That would be better wouldn't it?"

"You're planning something," Harry said.

"I've no idea what you're talking about," Miah said with a smile.

"Definitely up to something," Ron said.

"That's for me to know and for you to find out," Miah said.

Harry was able to convince his parents with the help of his friends that it would be beneficial to everyone if Harry and his two sidekicks, Ron and Neville weren't bored out of their minds. So with out much notice, Lilly floo called the Burrow to invite the Weasley's that weren't already at their house over for dinner. It was safe to say that after that no one was bored...

The boys, and I do mean all the boys, played a game of Quidditch outside in the sunshine. Ron, Sirius, Bill and Fred were on one team. Ginny, George, James and Tonks were on another. Remus and Neville watched from the garden. Miah sat with a book inside where it was nice and warm; however that didn't mean that she didn't glance up to watch the game from time to time.

Lilly, Molly and Arthur sat in the kitchen sipping tea and eating cookies and biscuits. "How long do you suppose it'll keep them occupied for? The game will finish eventually and they'll no doubt just get bored again." Arthur said.

"Who knows dear," Molly said, "would you prefer to join them instead of sitting in here with us girls?"

"I might," Arthur said, "you ladies have a nice chat."

Christmas morning came full of snow, ice and presents. Everyone staying at the Potters gathered in the Drawing room, for a group present opening session. Everyone got at least one thing they wanted. Ron got Quidditch gear. Miah a new quill and a journal. Ginny Quidditch gear and chocolate. Harry a new broom, as his had been revoked at school. Neville a rare book on plants that defend.

For dinner that evening, the entire order showed to share Christmas dinner with the Potters. After which they had an order meeting. Some members didn't want to have a meeting on Christmas, and others thought it was necessary.

So everyone met in the Den while the 'Children who were to young to attend' were sent out.

"I've something I'd like to discuss before were all sent away," Miah said turning towards Dumbledore, "there's something I need to ask you and I know that you won't answer unless you've no choice but to answer."

There were some gasps, "Who do you think you are?" Mood groused, "What right have you to question Dumbledore?"

"You know perfectly well who I am, Mr. Moody," Miah said angrily "so don't go pretending that you don't know."

Now wasn't the time to get into that, most of the people in the order, well the older ones, knew who she was; it was just that they all thought she had died 14 years ago.

Turning back to Dumbledore she pulled out the picture that Lord Voldemort had given her. "Where did you get this?" Dumbledore asked, his usually twinkling eyes were wide with surprise.

"You know where I got it from Sir," she said loud enough for everyone to hear her, but low enough that they had to really listen to what she was saying. "Did you tell them, about letting him question me?"

"Miss Granger," Moody said, "that was a necessary evil. It needed to happen, it's not like you told him anything that he hadn't already known."

"Wait, what's she talking about?" Harry asked.

"I'll tell you later Harry," Miah said, "did you hold your end of the deal Professor?"

"He did," Arthur said, "he told us the same night."

"Thank you Mr. Weasley," Miah said, "Professor Dumbledore I want to know, who is that girl and why does she look like me"

The photo was an old black and white picture. Hermione Stevens surrounded by original Death Eaters. The boy once known as Tom Riddle right there next to her, his arm wrapped around her. You could tell just by looking at the majority of the boys in the picture that they were infatuated with her.

As Dumbledore told the story, the picture was passed from person to person, eventually ending up in the hands of Harry, Ron, Neville and Ginny. Of course Ginny already knew of the photo, because Miah had already told her about it.

"Her name was Hermione Stevens," Dumbledore spoke as if in a trance, "and like the boy standing there in that picture she was an orphan. She was placed in the same orphanage as Tom Riddle, whom you also know as Lord Voldemort. Friendship from the two turned to love in their 6th year. However as Riddle couldn't go against his own beliefs he disregarded it. He left her alone, while he planned and plotted. I believe that his original followers, as shown in that picture were in love with the girl.

She started an orphanage with the help of the ministry, an orphanage that I believe you are quite familiar with Miss Granger. However in her 23rd year, there was an accident and she lost her eyesight. Somehow the potion that blew up in her face, started the death process. She had nigh on a year to live.

Curious as to her whereabouts, Riddle sent two of his followers to trail her. When word got back to him about the Orphanage home, and then her accident he sent Abraxas Malfoy to see her. Riddle visited her that night, after he confessed him love for the girl, he spelled her to die. Though the effects of the spell cause one to die slowly and painlessly, it was still murder even if it was to ease her suffering."

"I still don't understand what it has to do with me," Miah said with a heavy sigh. Somewhere in the middle of the story, Miah found herself sitting on the floor.

"Your her Reincarnation, Miss Granger," Dumbledore said, "I thought that when you showed up at Hogwarts in 1974, laying in the infirmary, that it was to early for her reincarnation to appear before me. As it turns out, you weren't born until September 1979, I knew that you were indeed her."

"How... why?" Hermione asked.

"Because it would have been a waste for such a soul to leave this world without completing what it was put on this earth for."

"And what is that Professor?" Miah asked slightly scared, "What is this destiny I seem to have died twice without completing?"

"True Love," Dumbledore said cryptically.

"Really that's it?" Miah asked, "that's my mission? I don't understand."

"You will," Dumbledore said, "Someday you will, and you'll know exactly what to do with it."

Hermione stood to leave, when she heard her name being called. "Memoria Revoco," was the last thing she heard before everything went dark.

A/N: I know I know, what a horrible place to leave a chapter that you've waited forever for. What can I say I'm evil.

Memoria Revoco means Memory Recovery. I used the English to Latin dictionary online. So if it's wrong blame them not me.

P.S. I don't own Harry Potter.

P.S.S. I'm sorry it took so long to update. :) Next chapter, Charlie and Bill make the scene... I'll leave it to your imagination.

Until Next Time... Tootles
