Chapter 36

Holy city: Part III

Hindrance

...

Flame spears formed from Satan's back. He threw Lune to the sky and pointed the spears at him. Lune gritted his teeth as a darkness barrier appeared in front of him. He gasped as the spears pierced the barrier and slashed his skin. The orange flames started burning his skin. Satan's eyes watered. "YOU KILLED HIM! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"

"Varitita," Ange nodded at the blonde. Varitita stood up. Satan's eyes widened, as gravity pulled him to the ground. The flames disappeared from his body as he collapsed to the ground, coughing blood.

Ange stood up. He sat beside Ethan. He glared at his hair. "It's... black?!" He held Ethan's wrist, trying to feel his pulse. "I... can't feel any pulse..."

The other angels stood behind him.

Locus sighed. "Great! Now we've murdered him! GREAT! Now a war will start for real!"

A faint line of blood ran from the corner of Ethan's lips. His long hair has turned black. Black spells started from his neck. Ange placed a finger on his chin and carefully tilted his head backwards, trying to read it.

"The... darkness will..."

His eyes widened in fear. He gasped and sat back, panting. "Lune... COME HERE!"

Lune appeared beside Ange. Ange stared at him, shocked. "What are you intending to do? LUNE!"

The others glanced at each other, confused. Lune bit his lips, lowering his head. He glanced at Ethan. "I didn't know his condition was this critical. I was merely thrilled to the idea that he was a darkness demon. I..."

"This is no reason to make him your servant!"

Satan's eyes widened. He tried to sit down but the gravity was too strong.

Ange lowered his head, rubbing his neck.

Aliquam anxiously stared at Ethan. He placed a hand on Ange's shoulder. "Wh... What happened to him, Archangel?"

"He was possessed by Lune's darkness because it was stronger than him. Even his physical characteristics changed." Ange glared daggers at Lune.

Lune clenched his fists. "My deepest apologize..."

Ange started healing the Darkness demon. He unbuttoned his shirt. Everyone's eyes widened. The crest has turned black. It was glowing black.

"Is he... alive?"

Ange shook Ethan's shoulders. "Ethan! Answer me, ETHAN!"

He heard no answer. His hands started trembling.

"A... Archangel, please take a small break..."

"SHUT UP, LUNE!" Ange stared at Lune, eyes wide with rage. "I ask you not to kill him, and the first thing you do is to kill him?"

Lune lowered his head. A black aura surrounded Ethan. He slowly opened his eyes. They were black and empty. He gasped, throwing up blood. Ange glanced back at him. "Ethan..."

Ethan slowly stood up. He walked toward Satan. Varitita undid the gravity. Ethan collapsed beside Satan. He held him, lowering his head. Satan stared at the crest on his chest, eyes wide. Ethan started caressing his hair. He smiled.

Ange glanced at Lune. "Go find a way to heal him, right away!"

"I... I know a way, Archangel." Lune flew toward Ethan. He grabbed him and forced him to sit down. Ethan stared at him, eyes half-closed. Lune looked away. "I... don't know if it'll work, though..."

He placed a hand on Ethan's chest. "Hold on, it'll hurt."

Ethan gazed at the moon. He smiled, holding Satan's hand. Satan glanced at where he was looking. Lune clenched his fists. "I can't..."

"What?!" Ange stood beside him.

"I... It's risky! He might die!"

Ethan's gaze softened. He slowly closed his eyes, falling on Lune. Satan gasped in shock. "Ethan..."

He held him. "Ethan!"

Lune clenched his fists. "I'm... sorry, Archangel," Ange clenched his fists.

He lifted Ethan and stood up. "Varitita, please take Satan to his room and make sure he's asleep."

Satan shook his head. "Please, let me see my brother! I'm... begging you! At least... At least!" He gritted his teeth. "At least if he dies, I'll be with him!"

Ange's gaze saddened. He lowered his head and started walking toward the temple. Satan followed him. The others glanced at each other.

Ange laid Ethan on the bed. Ethan was hyperventilating. He gritted his teeth then broke into a wave of blood coughing. Satan held his hand, lowering his head. "Ange, please... Let us leave this place," he whispered.

Ange's eyes widened. "Where will you go? Will you go back to Gehenna?"

"I'll... go to Assiah..." Tears ran down Satan's face. "Please..."

"I can't! There are rules... I can't let you leave," Ange bit his lips.

Satan gasped, hearing his brother's agonized scream. He gritted his teeth. "Then, what will you do for him? WILL YOU HEAL HIM? BRING HIM BACK, ANGE!"

Ange's eyes widened, not knowing what to do.

Satan clenched his fists. "You can't do anything... He'll just suffer for days then die!"

"Sa... tan," Ethan whispered. Satan smiled, glancing at him. Tears ran down Ethan's face. "I... I... gu... guessed... the... w... way to... to..."

His eyes started closing.

"ETHAN!"

And in a second, the crest spread along Ethan's skin. He threw up blood, panting slowly.

"NO! ETHAN!" Satan jumped on him, crying heavily. Ethan placed a hand on his cheeks, smiling weakly.

He's... crying for me...

He leaned forward, wrapping his arms around Satan's back. He whispered in his ear. "My... b... lood..."

Satan's eyes widened. "You sh... should..." Ethan gritted his teeth, trying to suppress his huge envy to scream in pain. "T... Take... my... bloo... d..."

He removed the left side of his shirt, exposing his shoulder. "H... He... re..."

Satan stared at him, shocked. "Wh... Why?"

"Your... seal... will be... broken... tha... that... way," Ethan breathed.

"I would never take your blood like that!" Satan gritted his teeth. "You're weak! You still need to recover! It will kill you!"

"Ethan's gaze softened. He collapsed on the bed, coughing blood. Satan sadly stared at him. He rested his head on his chest, closing his eyes. "Good night, Ethan."

Ange sadly stared at them. He felt his heart breaking. He walked out of the room at and sat on the ground, breaking into tears.

Lune stood in front of him. He clenched his fists. "I promise you to find a way, Archangel."

Ange stood up and started walking away. He entered his room and collapsed to the ground. His white hair fell on his face. He felt exhausted. He stared in front of him with watering eyes.

Solute knocked on his door. "Ange..." His eyes widened, seeing him lying on the ground. "Ange!" He sat beside him and wrapped a hand around his shoulders. Ange bit his lips, crying silently.

Solute's gaze saddened. "Do they mean that much to you, Ange?"

Ange nodded, placing his hands on his face. He gasped, tears rolling down his cheeks. Solute lowered his head.

"Ethan... is dying... Satan doesn't know about that," whispered Ange.

Solute frowned. "He's dying?!"

Ange nodded. "But I... I have no idea how to undo the seal! The only way would be unlocking Ethan's seal... He might not even recover his physical characteristics, but he'll survive! Yet, I... I can't undo a spell cast by a demon! Only a demon can do it!"

"There is Satan!" Solute clenched his fists. "Satan is the demon lord! He can do anything!"

Ange glanced at Solute. "Y... Yes..."

He stood up. "I have to go... t... tell," his vision suddenly grew blurry. He fell forward, hearing someone screaming his name...

Two days later

Lune walked into Ethan's room. He bit his lips and sat near his best. He held his hand. "Ethan, please, wake up!"

Silence greeted his calls. He stared at his crest. Ethan's veins were growing darker. His face looked paler, almost white. Satan was asleep beside him, a tear glittering on his cheek. Lune clenched his fists.

Even Ange fell sick, because of me...

He gritted his teeth.

It's my entire fault!

He grabbed Ethan by his shoulders. "Please!" Tears ran down his face. "I'll save you now! Just wake up! Open your eyes! I'm sorry!"

He had no answer, before deciding to leave.

He entered Ange's room. He bit his lips, seeing his archangel lying in bed, taken by exhaustion. Ange was panting slowly, a blush on his face. Solute was sitting by his side.

"H-How is he?"

Solute closed his eyes, lowering his head. "He needs a lot of time to recover. He overused his energy..."

Lune clenched his fists. He stormed out of the room. Solute held Ange's hand. "Please, recover fast. The temple is a mess right now."

He glanced at the door. "I have to tell Satan... I have to tell him..."

Five days later

Viperiah was sitting on his throne, a wide smirk on his face. "Did you find any of them?"

"No, my lord," Yozan informed. "They've really vanished, this time. We've been looking for over two weeks."

"I see..."

Viperiah laughed. "Better that way! Good riddance!"

Yozan emotionlessly stared at the ground.

"Maybe they died by that meteorite!"

"Yes, my lord..."

Yozan walked out of the room.

"That guy is a real pest," he gritted his teeth. "I wanted Ethan as a king, not him!"

"Konami is still crying..." Harenam sighed. "Things aren't right anymore..."

Reigus stared at them from the corner of his eyes. He lowered his head and started walking away.

Three days later

Mephisto stared at the paper in his hand, shocked. "Ah... What the hell?! Viperiah is the new lord?!"

He lowered his head. "Then, what happened to Satan?"

He gritted his teeth. "What the hell is going on?!"

To be continued...

...

Ethan fell sick after absorbing Lune's darkness. Ange had the same fate after using up his powers. On the other hands, things started getting messed up in Gehenna and the demons disapproved of Viperiah being the new lord. Even Mephisto showed a clear disagreement.
