"So that's it? We talk about our hopes and dreams and then you kill me?" Doris exclaimed. She laughed and shook her head, masking the slight concern over Wo-Fat's statement. She knew that his men weren't in their vicinity, but she also knew that Wo-Fat was a smart man full of surprises. At most, Doris knew that at least a quarter of Wo-Fat's men were out scouring the area in front of and above the cave for any signs of her son and his team.
"Where's Haluu? I thought he was your partner in crime," Doris asked casually.
"He's a weak man with strong ties," Wo-Fat walked a half circle around Doris slowly. "If you truly knew me, you'd know that I don't deal well with weak men on my team."
"How long has he been dead?"
Wo-Fat stopped in his tracks, narrowed his eyes, and looked up at Doris. "Why do you care? And how do you know about Haluu, if I may ask?"
Doris swallowed hard. "My son."
"Hmmm, McGarrett must be delighted to see you, especially after you abandoned him and his sister for a job."
Doris turned her body away from Wo-Fat and grumbled, "I don't have time for a bonding session."
Wo-Fat pointed to a large rock a few feet away. "I think we do. I think that we should chat and finally put a few things to rest. You look a touch tried, Doris. Why don't we both sit?"
Doris rolled her eyes at Wo-Fat's mocking tone. "Enough with this nice crap- don't make it seem as if you're innocent in all of this."
"I am innocent, a better person than you at the least. How are the effects of ditching your son and daughter for the job treating you? Or your marriage- oh, that didn't end well, did it?"
Doris froze for a moment before marching up to Wo-Fat and growling through clenched teeth, "I was doing my job!"
Wo-Fat's expression immediately turned to anger. "Your job….your job?! You killed my father! You betrayed me to do it!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa- what?!"
A half mile away, a silver surveillance van sat at the end of a roundabout near the cave. The team was all crammed in the van- Steve and Chin, both suited up in their Kevlar vest and tactical suits, were sitting next to each other while listening through headsets to Doris' earpiece. Danny and Kono were on the other side of the van, putting on their Kevlar vests, tactical suits, and attaching their assault rifles, flashlights, and flash grenades to their vests.
"Are you kidding?" Danny exclaimed, "We've been hunting around for a man that's dead?"
"Shh!" Chin shooed Danny and pressed his headsets onto his ears. He shot a quick glance over to Steve and asked, "Betrayal? Do you know anything about this?"
"Betrayal? She just killed Wo-Fat's father for all I know," Steve whispered. He looked forward and focused on the conversation between Doris and Wo-Fat.
"You buttered up my mother, my sister, and my father for three years and then turned around and killed them! I was just a child!"
"I didn't kill your mother and sister. They were killed by other CIA members who killed them out of collateral damage. Your father was a criminal and had to be taken out. It was my job to get close and then execute the target."
"Sister?" Kono exclaimed. She leaned in between Steve and Chin, "Mother? Why haven't we heard about it?"
Steve held up a hand. "Shh! Just listen."
"My mother and sister were people! You ruined my life and now I'm about to end yours."
At the moment, two gunshots rang through the air.
"Go! Go!" Chin yelled. No one needed to be told twice- headsets were thrown onto the table, the closest guns were all grabbed, and everyone sprinted towards the van door. Kono landed both feet on the ground and took off first with Chin a few feet behind. Danny came out third, but stopped when he turned his head to see Steve land on a leg and then his knee as his leg gave out. Danny cursed under his breath and ran back to pull Steve onto his feet.
Up ahead, Kono pistol whipped a tall white male standing at the top of the path across the face and watched him roll unconscious down the rocky path. He landed in a heap seconds before Kono jumped over his body and started running to the entrance of the cave a few meters away. Wo-Fat was nowhere to be seen and Doris was laying between two large boulders with a gunshot wound in her chest.
"Oh God!" Kono whipped her head back just in time to see Chin sprint down the bottom of the path. She didn't give him a chance to respond and yelled, "She's been shot and it's bad! Don't let Steve see her!"
"Got it." Chin sprinted out of sight, allowing Kono to focus on Doris. With one hand on the wound, Kono dialed 911 and waited a few minutes for a responder to answer. In the meantime, she could hear her teammates loudly arguing somewhere on the path.
"Steve, you can't go in there-"
"Was Doris hit?"
"Yes, but you can't-"
"DORIS!"
"Steve! Danny, help me here!"
"McGarrett, we can't-" Danny's voice was cut off by the sound of another gunshot. Kono grabbed her weapon once more and aimed it behind her while still keeping a hand on Doris' wound. Chin suddenly appeared again and said, "Wo-Fat's taken off in a black Escalade. Steve and Danny are on it and I'm going to follow them. Can you handle Doris?"
"Yeah, go! Go!" Kono turned her head back to Doris and heard the sound of Chin's footsteps fading away. She tucked her phone between her head and her shoulder and applied her other hand to the wound. On the cellphone, she finally heard the 911 responder answer to her relief.
"P-91137?"
"This is Officer Kalakaua with Five-0. I need an ambulance for a gunshot victim ASAP….."
