Lovino rang the doorbell to the house of Antonio. He was nervous, he had never actually come here of his own accord. Why was he even here? Because he heard a couple of kids talking about one of Antonio's friends? And that Antonio's friend might be crazy and could be planning something to get him hurt? Why bother and warn the bastard? Duh, because Lovino is actually in love with Antonio. He always was. He was his first friend and it's been more or less eight years of friendship and secret crushing. Antonio is such a flirt though, that's why Lovino never came clean. Antonio says he loves him but he says that to everyone. Antonio loves everyone, he's really nice and just that kind of guy. It's so fucking annoying.
The Spaniard answered the door and the sight of him made Lovino's heart jump. Antonio was surprised so much by the sight of Lovino that he reached out and pinched the boy's cheek. Lovino slapped his hand away, blushing furiously.
"Can you be serious for once Bastard!?"
"Lovino I was just so surprised I had to be sure you were real," he sang with that dumb smile.
Lovino tried not to focus on his perfectly tanned arms, so fit and tight and damn. What a hottie. Lovino knew he had some stiff competition when it came to the other girls in school. Hell, he didn't even know if Antonio was gay or not. But that doesn't matter. He'll settle with the bromance for now.
"Antonio… can we… go somewhere?"
Antonio's face burned with red, "Are you asking me out?"
"STOP BEING STUPID! GET YOUR JACKET! I'LL WAIT HERE BASTARD!"
Antonio smiled, running back into his house to change clothes. Lovino grumbled and glared at his feet. He should have called it a date. No, he never jokes with Antonio, it would be out of character. Still, even as a joke, to call them hanging out a date… didn't sound as bad as Lovino let on. Antonio returned very quickly and Lovino guided Antonio to some café where they sat in a corner table away from the ears of pedestrians who didn't care about what they were saying.
"I think someone's out to get you."
Antonio only laughed, pissing Lovino off, "I'm serious Antonio. I heard Matthew and Ivan talking and I'm pretty sure someone is using you and, okay, you remember what happened to Gilbert?"
Antonio turned serious; "I wouldn't take anything Ivan says too seriously Lovino. I'd also keep my distance if I were you."
"And why is that?"
"Something is happening Lovino. Ivan isn't good company to keep."
"That's basically what I'm saying! Something is happening you bastard! Alfred is behind it and I don't want you to get involved!"
"I'm not involved, I'm just trying to keep Feli safe."
Feli. It's always Feli. Feli, Feli, Feli. Ever since they were kids, FELI! Lovino learned to swallow his brother's popularity like a giant pill but hearing Antonio even say Feli's name like that… it pissed Lovino off even more.
"Antonio, just take me seriously for once! I don't want Alfred to hurt you!"
Lovino blinked at his own words and his face turned as red as a tomato. Antonio stared at Lovino, a little surprised actually. He was going to say something when Lovino just cut him off.
"Forget I said anything! Do whatever you want! It doesn't affect me either way!"
And then he ran off, completely humiliated.
Meanwhile Matthew and Ivan were discussing more or less how Alfred has been able to manipulate the students around him, what he was planning in the near future, and just who else was in on it? Who else hates Ivan enough to- well actually everyone hates Ivan? They thought about it, but came up with nothing.
"Doesn't Kiku know everything? Like, he was the brains of some gang or something?"
"No, Ivan. We can't go to Kiku, he's too close to Feli and what's going on. We need someone who knows as much as Kiku but is on our side, or at least, neutral… shit, we need the informant."
"… The informant? That sounds really gay?"
"Ivan, there hasn't been a completely straight guy at our school since 1981, back when being Gay wasn't trending."
"Roderich?"
"He's a totally pussy, he doesn't count."
"Matthew, sometimes I worry about how crazy you get when you're not pretending to be shy."
"Says the guy who almost gets expelled every other week."
"You win this round. So, the informant?"
"Arthur's gang has a list of unregistered members, the informant being one of them."
"Who is he?"
"You already know him. Arthur thinks we should call him the Gossip Queen but I think informant sounds sexier."
It took Ivan less than a second to figure out who Matthew was talking about, "… I thought he was out of town?"
"A storm is brewing Mr. Wayne."
"Dark Knight?"
"Rises."
"Good reference."
"Thank you, I try."
And so the pair went to find the informant. And back on the other side of town Feli was heading out while Lovino was coming home. Feli saw the sad look on his brother's face and Lovino knew he couldn't hide anything from his younger brother. So he told him what happened and what's happening. Feli was surprised by Lovino's information and decided to confirm the boy's suspicions by relaying his own information. In the end everything lead to Alfred and his mysterious helper. Still they had no real evidence, only hunches and vague information. They lacked even a motive.
"Hey Feli, where are you going?"
Feli blushed a bright red and pulled out a piece of paper, "I found this in our mail box and… Ivan wants to meet up with me."
Lovino looked in disbelief, "Doesn't he have your phone number?"
"Well… I don't know, this is kind of romantic I guess?"
"Let me see that."
Feli handed the note over and Lovino stared into the paper, "yeah except Ivan isn't this smooth. Isn't he the tongue tied type?"
"A-a change of heart?"
"More like a change of person, there's no way Ivan wrote this."
Feli cried, "I just wanted to believe he did alright! Besides, that letter might be from someone trying to hurt Ivan! I could find out who!"
"NOT YOU TOO!" Lovino strangled his brother, "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS! YOU CANT GO GETTING YOURSELF HURT NOT WHEN ANTONIO IS GOING OUT OF HIS WAY TO PROTECT YOU!"
"A-antonio?"
Lovino's face scrunched up, "Yeah, you're the one he likes idiot."
"No he likes you Lovino?"
"No he doesn't, he told me."
There was a pause and Feli reached out his hand to pat his brother's head in an attempt to comfort him. A world where the person you love would say "I Love You" back was something everyone dreamed of, but today Feli only wanted for someone to love his brother. Today Feli wanted Antonio to love Lovino the way Lovino loved Antonio. If Feli could somehow make this happen, he could be fine in a loveless world. He wondered then if this was how Ludwig was feeling. He felt a little sad at that. Ludwig was still his friend after all. Lovino took his brother's hand.
"We can use this note to keep Antonio from getting involved."
"Ok Lovino, but let's go see Francis first. He's been forging love letters for years, he can probably identify this handwriting."
And so everyone was headed all in the same place. As for what happens next? You'll have to wait and see.
Sorry I disappeared for so long and I'm sorry this chapter probably isn't everything you dreamed of. XD Next chapter will have some action and this story will finally get on a roll. Until next time!
