Mundus' Deception!
Nightmare let's out a shrill shriek as the front part of it's stone armor opens up, revealing the cannon like weapon once again. From the cannon is launched a white beam, which seems to encase everything it touches in ice.
Dante jumps out of the way of the attack, and takes out his two pistols and starts to shoot at the cannon.
Red meanwhile is looking around for anything to use as an advantage against their enemy. It is there he sees a stone tablet on one of the columns supporting the cavernous room.
"Gotcha." Said Red. He begins to run towards it, only to be struck by a bolt of electricity from behind.
"Stupid Keyblade Master, you think I'm just going to let you gain the upper hand like that? Nightmare, finish him!" Yelled Trish.
Nightmare rearranges it's stone armor, and the front end immediately switches places with the back end. Nightmare opens up it's gel like body, revealing the cannon again. White energy begins to charge up and a beam of white energy is fired towards Red. Red jumps out of the way, only for the stone tablet to be completely covered in ice.
"Damn it!" Thought Red to himself. "That was the only chance we had!"
From Nightmare's gel like body protrude small red spheres, now aimed towards Red. The spheres begin to fire needle like projectiles towards him. Red once again rolls out of the way of the incoming attacks.
"THUNDARA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff turns yellow, and bolts of lightning come from the cieling and destroy the two spheres.
Nightmare reacts to this by sending a sharp piece of stone armor towards her, only for Green to grab Blue and jump out of the way of the attack.
All 4 heroes get together and regroup, Nightmare turning and facing them once more.
"Trish, why?" Yelled Dante.
"You're so gullible, the same goes for your little band here." Said Trish. "I was playing the trust game the entire time, while secretly I've been working for Mundus the whole time."
"Mundus?" Asked Red.
"King of the Underworld, and soon to be ruler of this world!" Said Trish. "Once me and Nightmare are done finishing you off, Mundus will then proceed to escape this hellhole we call home. It will only be a matter of time then, with both legions of Hellspawn and Heartless on his side, he will be unstoppable!"
"Gr." Growled Dante.
"Struck a nerve?" Asked Trish. "Then again, being the son of his mortal enemy, I guess the name Mundus does make your blood boil."
"How could someone like you...serve someone like him!" Yelled Dante. "Do you honestly think he cares for you, that you'll rule along side him when he suceeds in escaping?"
"Huh?" Asked Trish.
"Let me tell you something Trish, he won't reward you for your actions, he'll only dispose of you like a piece of garbage!" Said Dante. "If you think I'm just going to turn over like a dog and die, and let Mundus have his way, you have another thing coming!"
"And what are you going to do about it, Dante? You're nothing more but a miserable half-breed." Said Trish.
"Well for one, I think I'm going to behave exactly like Mundus." Said Dante, a dark aura now beginning to resonate around his entire body. "And take out this piece of trash here!"
Dante proceeds to grab his sword and slams it towards the ground. A black slash like projectile proceeds to leave the sword, and cuts right through Nightmare's entire body. Nightmare proceeds to give off a series of pained shrieks and screams as the projectile hits the frozen stone tablet. The ice breaks and the tablet begins to glow a bright white color.
"What!?" Yelled Trish.
At that moment, a large green core erupts from Nightmare's body as it's regenerating, Dante wastes no time in rushing towards the core and slashing the ever living bejesus out of it.
"NO!" Yelled Trish.
"HRAH!" Yelled Dante, who slashes the core one last time, causing it to break into several bits and pieces.
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" Screamed Nightmare one more time, the stone markings on it's body begin to glow a menacing red as several red orbs escape from Nightmare's now deteriorating body and begin to shoot lasers everywhere.
Red, Blue, and Green jump out of the way of several oncoming lasers, as do Dante and Trish. The barrier protecting Trish is disabled, and the whole room begins to shake.
"THUNDARA!" Yelled Blue again, destroying the remaining red cores.
Nightmare's gel like body deteriorates completely, nothing of it left to identify it remains.
Trish is shown to be on the ground, panting like crazy, and we see one of the stone columns about to collapse on top of her. She notices and gasps.
Dante rushes in and picks Trish up, getting her out of the way from impending doom.
"What?" Thought Trish to herself.
Dante get's up, and rubs the dirt off his jacket, and proceeds to walk away.
"Dante!" Yelled out Trish. Dante then proceeds to stop.
"Dante, why did you save my life?" Asked Trish.
Dante is silent for a few moments, he looks back at Trish, and then turns his head back to the exit of the caverns.
"Because...you look like my mother." Said Dante.
"Huh?" Both Red and Blue ask.
"Now get out of my sight." Said Dante. "The next time we meet it won't be like this."
Dante proceeds to walk away once more, Trish tries to run up to him.
"Dante!" Said Trish.
"Don't come any closer you devil!" Yelled Dante, now pointing one of his pistols towards her. "You may look like my mother, but you'll never be close to her! You have no soul, you may have her face, but you'll never have her fire!"
Dante puts the gun down, and proceeds to walk away. Red, Blue, and Green looks back at her, but proceed to follow Dante out of the cave.
Trish get's down on the ground, feeling an incredible sense of disbelief. She did not know how to react to this situation at all. Here she was, all by herself, with no one to turn to. Or so she thinks, as suddenly red bolts of lightning begin to flare behind her, revealing a set of three floating red orbs resembling eyes behind her.
"You have failed me, Trish." Called out Mundus' voice. "You know the rules."
Meanwhile, back at the Dex Holders, they are trying to catch up with Dante.
"Dante, hold up! Slow down!" Yelled Red.
"There's no more time to waste, we have to get to Mundus' chambers, now." Said Dante.
"Sheesh, you must really hate this Mundus person." Said Red.
"What was all that about back in the cavern?" Asked Blue.
"What? How I told off Trish? She had it coming, being nothing more but a traitor." Said Dante.
"If that is how you really felt, than you wouldn't have saved her." Said Green.
Dante then proceeds to stop and turns to face the Dex Holders.
"What do you want from me! My whole life's story?" Asked Dante, his voice filling with anger.
"What we want is an explanation!" Yelled Green. "This whole time we've been following you, we've been muddling around in the dark and we're sick of it. We're trying to help you, and you treat us like nothing more but a bunch of kids. We may not understand the whole situation you're going through, nor do you fully understand our situation, but if we're going to work with each other, we have to let certain things come to light!"
"OK." Said Dante, calming down a little. "What do you want to know."
"Mundus, who is he, and why does stopping him matter so much to you?" Asked Red.
"It's like Trish said, Mundus is the king of the Underworld, if he manages to escape from the Underworld, it would be really bad news for this world." Said Dante.
"There's more to it than that." Said Red.
"Yeah, there is, and quite frankly I don't like talking about it too much." Said Dante.
"Trish mentioned you were the son of someone named Sparda, who is he?" Asked Green.
Dante is silent for a few seconds, and there is a pondering look on his face telling whether or not he should tell these Dex Holders or not.
"Maybe we shouldn't push him to far, if Mundus is that immediate of a threat, we should probably focus on asking questions later." Said Blue.
"The young lady is right, we have no more time to lose. We have to get to Mundus now before it's too late." Said Dante.
"Alright, fair enough, but this isn't over." Said Green.
At that moment, Gargoyle Heartless proceed to spawn and get in their way.
"Perfect timing." Said Dante. He brings out his sword and immediately slashes one of the Gargoyle Heartless, dispatching it.
Red proceeds to draw the Keyblade and also begins to slash away at several Gargoyle Heartless. The Heartless turn into will o wisps to avoid the oncoming slashes.
"BLIZZARA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff turns blue, and launches a series of blue energy orbs towards the reforming Gargoyle Heartless. The Heartless are then immediately frozen in mid air, and come crashing to the ground, shattering into pieces.
"HRAH!" Yelled Green, he slashes the two remaining Gargoyle Heartless, disposing of them immediately.
"Come on, we can't afford to waste any more time." Said Dante.
"Right." Said the Dex Holders.
The 4 of them proceed to run down further into the dark and treacherous corridors of the Underworld.
Meanwhile, back in the temple with the large statue of the angelic youth. Trish is now seen hanging on the top part of the entryway by shackles made of white energy.
"Why are you doing this?" Asked Trish. "Why didn't you just kill me?"
"Because my child, if the Son of Sparda saved you before, then he is bound to do it again." Called out Mundus' voice. "You will be the perfect bait, and once I'm done disposing of him, then I shall dispose of you."
"And what of the Keyblade Bearer and company?" Asked Trish.
"Good question." Called Mundus again. "We'll just have to wait and see."
Meanwhile back at the 4 Heroes, they are now seen fighting off a series of armored lizard Heartless.
"FIRA!" Yelled Blue. The tip of her staff turns red, and she fires a series of two fireballs towards the Heartless. The two fireballs fuse to make one larger fireball and proceed to destroy two Heartless.
"How much farther until we get to Mundus?" Asked Green, slashing another armored lizard Heartless.
"He's close, very close." Said Dante. He should be right about in the next room.
"Then let's not waste any more time." Said Red, dispatching another armored lizard Heartless. He then proceeds to fire a beam of light to the left, creating a small opening to the next room.
"Move!" Yelled Dante.
Both Dante and the Dex Holders proceed to run away from the remaining armored lizard Heartless, who attempt to give chase. The 4 proceed to walk through the opening, which proceeds to close behind them, leaving the remaining armored lizard Heartless' stranded.
The next room in question is remarkably dark, the only light coming from the cieling. Both Dante and the Dex Holders walk towards the light, and see that it leads to a Greek/Roman temple like structure.
"Yeah, that's definately Mundus' energy I feel coming from that hole." Said Dante.
"How do we get up there?" Asked Blue.
"If I had to guess, it would be the same way we got in here." Said Dante.
"You want me to use the Keyblade to make that portal bigger?" Asked Red.
"Yes, and hurry before it disappears." Said Dante, crossing his arms.
Red proceeds to nod and points the Keyblade towards the light. A beam of white energy is then fired towards the tiny portal, and like Dante predicted, it manages to grow bigger.
Dante wastes no time in jumping through. The Dex Holders simply walk up the portal, looking at it for a few more moments.
"Dante really wants to stop this Mundus guy, doesn't he?" Asked Blue.
"We'll find out why soon enough." Said Green. He then proceeds to jump through the portal as well. Blue then proceeds to jump through as well.
"Hey, wait up!" Yelled Red. He then proceeds to jump through the portal as well. The portal then proceeds to close, leaving the room in complete darkness.
We then arrive at the scene of the temple, Green, Blue and Red then proceed to exit the portal, which proceeds to close behind them. They see Dante is way ahead of them and approaching a large, white doorway.
"This is where Mundus is hiding?" Asked Red. "It's so filled to the brim with light."
"If Mundus is nothing more than a demon, than no doubt all this light is fake." Said Green. "Come on, let's catch up to Dante."
The Dex Holders nod in unison, and then begin to run towards Dante in an attempt to catch up with him. Dante stops and looks back, seeing the Dex Holders trying to catch up with him, and then proceeds to continue walking towards the doorway. Red, Blue and Green finally catch up to him and slow down to catch their breaths.
"Took you long enough." Said Dante.
"To be fair, you did walk ahead of us." Said Red, panting.
"True." Said Dante plainly. He then proceeds to kick one of the doors open and walks through, the Dex Holders walking behind him as the door begins to close.
The 4 then enter into the one room with the large angelic statue, peering at them as they approach it ever so slowly. Soon, the 4 make it to the large statue, and Dante crosses his arms.
"Again I must face a Sparda...Strange fate, isn't it." Called out Mundus' voice.
"Strange and ironic that it will end the same way." Said Dante, retorting to Mundus' comment.
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Irony has favored you this time." Said Mundus' voice. A large beam of light then proceeds to expel itself from the statue's chest. "Look there."
Dante and the Dex Holders turn around, and see that the beam is pointing towards Trish, hanging near the top of the entryway.
"Trish!" Yelled Dante.
"Don't even think about it. Blink, she dies." Cried out Mundus' voice.
"You!" Yelled Dante.
The Statue's eyes proceed to fire a series of three red energy spears, each of them piercing different parts of Dante's body.
"Dante!" Yelled the Dex Holders in unison. The statue's eyes glow red, and the Dex Holders are now bound by some strange red energy, unable to move.
"Dante!" Yelled Trish.
Dante is heard groaning in agony, and the angelic statue just leers down on them with no emotion in it's face whatsoever.
Trish is watching the scene, upon closer inspection, we see that Trish's binds are loose.
"Fool!" Called out Mundus' voice once more. The third eye of the statue begins to glow with ominous looking white energy. "Heh heh heh. So sad that humans will always be humans, no more. Ha ha ha ha. Has the Sparda blood been spoiled over the ages? Now die!"
The eye fires a ball of white energy towards Dante. Trish get's free from her binds, and with supernatural speed runs towards Dante and pushes him out of the way of the attack. Trish is then hit with the energy blast herself.
"Trish!" Yelled Dante, the red energy now dissolved. Trish falls to the ground, her eyes closed, not moving. Dante runs up to check on her, and begins to shake his head. "Trish. No!"
"Is she..." Began Blue.
"Useless scum..." Called out Mundus' voice once more. "Failure is one thing but taking an odd behavior like that..."
Dante then proceeds to clench his fists and grit his teeth.
"What is the matter?" Asked Mundus' voice once more, the third eye once again begins to charge up a beam of white energy. "It is time to end your pitiful lives, now!"
The beam is fired towards Dante and the Dex Holders, Dante turns to the beam, his eyes glowing red. By some invisible force, the beam is deflected and sent to a nearby column.
Dante's entire body begins to brim with a black and red aura once more. "How much longer are you going to keep on yapping? Come out and SHOW YOURSELF MUNDUS!"
The whole temple begins to shake, the statue of the angelic youth begins to crack little by little. Beams of light begin to erupt from the cracks as bits and pieces of marble like material fall off as the statue moves and begins to get up from it's throne.
"That's Mundus!?" Yelled Red.
"The guy's huge!" Yelled Blue.
"GWAAAAAAAAAAH!" Yelled Mundus as the last bit of his disguise is removed. Mundus is a large, towering colossus, resembling that of a seraph. We see a large, gaping black scar on his chest, pumping out dark energy constantly. His face is now bearded, and he is now donning a pair of angel like wings, which he then proceeds to spread out. As his wings spread out, large quantities of darkness engulf the room, making it seem that they have all entered a different dimension.
Mundus, now in all his glory looks down upon Dante and the Dex Holders, he then takes a look at the Dex Holders in particular, his eyes glowing white.
"You and I need to discuss something in private." Said Mundus to the Dex Holders. The Dex Holders are then encompassed in spheres of light. The spheres dissolve, and the Dex Holders have now disappeared, Dante looks back in shock and then at Mundus again in anger.
Red, Blue and Green are seen travelling a large tunnel of light, when they reach the end of the tunnel, they find themselves in the middle of a sunny field.
"Huh? Where are we now?" Asked Red.
"You are now in the deep confines of my mind, Keyblade Master." Called out Mundus' voice.
"Enough of this, quit hiding yourself, now!" Yelled Green.
A much smaller version of Mundus comes in via a large beam of light, he is seen using his wings, flying them as gracefully as a bird does.
"Here I am, out of hiding, just like you requested." Said Mundus.
"Why have you brought us here, what do you plan on doing?" Asked Red.
"I only wish to be freed from my eternal prison, is that really such a terrible ordeal?" Asked Mundus.
"Please, from what Dante has told us, you getting out would be the worst thing for this world." Said Green.
"Oh, but child, you know so little of my true nature." Said Mundus. "The three of you and me, we have a common enemy."
"A common enemy?" Asked Blue.
"Yes, the Dark Circle." Said Mundus. "They are nothing more but a bunch of incompetant fools who know nothing of the ways of darkness."
"How do you know of the Dark Circle?" Asked Red.
"I know because I myself am a member of the Dark Circle. For a long duration of time, I've been in contact with those miserable cretins through telepathic communication. I have learned their secrets, and am willing to tell you if you give me the chance." Said Mundus.
"Why should we believe anything you say, you're a monster, a demon. Someone who enjoys to make other people suffer for his own amusement." Said Red.
"Say what you will, but without me, you will never be able to defeat Ganondorf. You don't even realize what he's up to, don't you?" Asked Mundus.
"Eh, now that he mentions it, what is Ganondorf planning to do anyway?" Asked Blue.
"I'll gladly tell you, right here and right now." Said Mundus, his eyes glowing red. "What Ganondorf plans to do is harness the power of something called the Dark Gate."
"The Dark Gate?" Asked Green.
"Yes, the Dark Gate is said to be an object of nearly limitless power, a container for massive amounts of dark energy." Said Mundus.
"How much dark energy are we talking?" Asked Blue.
"Let's just say if Ganondorf were to accidentally unlock the Dark Gate, the darkness held within would proceed to consume everything in this known universe." Said Mundus.
"What!?" Yelled Red. "There's that much darkness inside that one thing?"
"Yes, and as I said before, Ganondorf wants to harness the Dark Gate's power, for he believes it's power will boost his strength to god like levels." Said Mundus. "Needless to say, you are helping him do this task."
"What, how are we helping him?" Asked Red.
"Every Heartless you have slain. The Dark Gate is said to feed on both hearts and dark energy contained within said creatures." Said Mundus. "The more Heartless you slay, the more power you are unintentionally giving Ganondorf."
"Wait a minute, how do we know what you're saying is the truth?" Asked Green. "How do we know your not just trying to dissuade us from interfering with the Dark Circle's plans?"
Mundus then proceeds to snap his finger, and a projection proceeds to spawn. Within the projection we see the same chamber where the demonic skull like structure stands. In the projection we see the Robed Figure waving her hands around, gathering a plethora of hearts and dark energy in a dark sphere like containment.
"Is that the Dark Gate right there?" Asked Red.
"Yes, and even now as we speak, Ganondorf's helper is adding the recent shipment of hearts and dark energy that you cluelessly delivered right to the Dark Gate's source of power." Said Mundus.
The Robed Figure's eyes glow red, and she gathers all the hearts and dark energy into her hands, and proceeds to fire it like a beam towards the ruby like attachment on the skull's forehead. The ruby glows ominously, while the yellow glass containment bubbles and starts to form a cloud of dark energy.
The projection then proceeds to close, and Mundus proceeds to cross his arms.
"You have been helping Ganondorf along with his plan the entire time, and you fools never once stopped to think what you were doing." Said Mundus.
"Why are you telling us this, why are you willing to betray Ganondorf?" Asked Red.
"Why? Hm hm hm. Do you honestly take me to be the puppet of some worthless warlock?" Asked Mundus. "You and I both share an unnatural hatred for him, and wish to see nothing more but his plan to fail, and for him to be put back in his place."
Mundus then proceeds to reach his hand out towards the three Dex Holders.
"Come, warriors of Light. Join me, together we can destroy Ganondorf and the Dark Circle, and prevent them from opening the Dark Gate. With our combined strength, nothing will ever stand in our way." Said Mundus.
"You think that even after showing us that little projection, you'd think we'd be gung ho in joining you?" Asked Red.
"Why not, you've already joined my sworn enemy, and he as well is every much of a demon as I am, half breed or not." Said Mundus. "Continue to go on the course you are currently going, and you'll only be helping Ganondorf out more than stopping him. With us working together, we need not worry about powering up the Dark Gate any further, we can focus all our efforts in destroying it instead, and those who stand in our way will bow before our combined might."
"Don't trust him. He'll only send you to destruction." Called out a voice to Red.
"Huh?" Asked Red.
"I don't know, now that he mentions it, maybe joining forces wouldn't be so bad." Said Green. "If it's to stop the Dark Circle, then maybe..."
"Maybe." Said Red. "But how do we know he won't end up betraying us in the end?" Asked Red.
"Don't be ridiculous, we will be allies to the end." Said Mundus.
"You said so yourself earlier, humans will always be humans, no more." Said Red. "You don't like to be used as a puppet by a human, but you seem to have no qualms using as puppets, do you, demon?"
"What?" Asked Mundus.
"My heart is telling me you are not to be trusted, and you know what, I'm going to follow what it says!" Yelled Red. He draws his Keyblade, and aims it towards Mundus. "Enough talk Mundus, it's time for you to face the Light."
"You fools do not realize what you're doing, fight against me and you will ruin your only chance to foil the Dark Circle's scheme!" Yelled Mundus.
"You know what, I trust Red's judgement on this one." Said Blue. "If the Dark Gate is really that much of a problem, then we'll take care of it ourselves!"
"I'm going to have to back them up on that." Said Green.
"We're not your puppets Mundus, nor will we ever be." Said Red.
"Not my puppets maybe, but puppets to the Dark Circle, most definately." Said Mundus. His eyes glow red, and he spreads his wings out, and proceeds to encompass the entire field in darkness. It is so dark that the only thing you can see on Mundus is his pair of three glowing, red eyes. "If you will not join me, you leave me no choice! Drown in darkness!"
Comments: I think this will be the largest chapter in the story, good lord that was a lot of typing. Mundus is a traitor to the Dark Circle, telling the Dex Holders of their plans, but the Dex Holders are not going to join him because they simply do not trust him, nor do they like the idea of being used as puppets. How will this fight pan out? What is happening to Dante while all this is going on? Read the next chapter and find out. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, please leave your comments and reviews, as I love to hear feedback from you guys. And as always, fellow readers, I will see you next chapter.
