NOTE:
In this story Kensi was never sent on the classified mission and they were never separated. I started writing this before those episodes aired.
SUMMARY:
Kensi and Deeks are hanging out on another Friday after work.
"Tick tock! Tick tock! Goes Kensalina's biological clock," Deeks teased with a laugh, from the corner of the couch he was sitting on. "Oh, my God, Deeks...I swear you're the one with the biological clock running out!" Kensi yelled glaring at him.
CHAPTER 36: MAKING A CHOICE...
THE PRECINCT PARKING LOT...
MARTY'S CAR...
Marty pulled into a parking place at the precinct, but still had yet to get out of the car and go meet with Bates.
He kept thinking back to the conversation him and Kensi had before he left...
FLASHBACK *
"Don't go, Marty. If you sign the papers to become an NCIS Agent...the LAPD can't take you away again." Kensi said.
"I-I can't do that, Kensi. Being a cop is a part of..." Marty began. "NCIS is the Navy version of a cop Marty, you will still be a cop and you've said yourself that half of the LAPD hates you." Kensi pleaded.
"Becoming an NCIS Agent is a big decision. I'll go on this assignment for Bates and then think about it, okay?" Marty asked stepping forward to give her a gentle kiss on the lips, but she pulled back before his lips touched hers.
"What about us packing my house so we can get moved into our house sooner? I don't want anyone else to help me with that; Marty...I want you to help me with packing the bedroom and bathroom." Kensi told him.
"We have most of the house packed, why don't you just put everything into boxes and we can sort them when I get back. Look I have to go meet with Bates now, but I'll try to make it back tonight if I can and I'll see if I can't get a little time so we can pack." Marty suggested taking Kensi's hands in his own.
"Fine, but you better go so you won't be late for your very important meeting." Kensi said taking her hands out of his, then turning away from him and stalking off toward the bedroom slamming the door behind her.
"Kensi," Marty said as he made his way to her bedroom door and heard her crying.
It had to be the hormones, because otherwise his badass fiancée' would not be crying her eyes out over him leaving.
"Just go, Marty!" Kensi yelled as Marty eased the door open and made his way into the room.
Bates would just have to wait a little longer, because right now Kensi was more important.
"Kens..." Marty began as he cautiously made his way over to the bed. "Just go, Marty." Kensi repeated not looking at him. "I want you to be okay before I go." Marty said sitting down on the bed beside her and Kensi turned her face trying to glare at him.
"You want me to be okay with you going undercover with the LAPD and not knowing if you're okay or when you will be home? How do you expect me to be okay with that?" Kensi asked him.
"I know it's hard, but we've been through this before when I've had to go undercover with the LAPD and I came home then." Marty reminded her.
"I know, but how do I know you will come home okay this time?" Kensi asked him.
"Because I made you a promise...
'To not get myself killed.'
...and that's a promise I intend to keep." Marty said as he pulled her up to sit beside him.
"You can't make a promise not to get yourself killed in our line of work, Marty." Kensi said sadly.
"Then I will try my best and I'll see if I can't have Bates keep Hetty updated, but if not I will be home as soon as I can. That's a promise that I will do everything in my power to keep." Marty said looking into her eyes.
"You better come home, because if you are killed I will find a way to bring you back and kill you myself." Kensi threatened. "I thought you would bring me back so we could be together and raise our child together." Marty joked and Kensi glared at him.
"Don't joke like that, Marty." Kensi told him and though she had calmed down there were still tears in her eyes. "Sorry, I just wanted to see you smile before I have to go." Marty told her as he tried to smile himself.
After that they walked to the front door, and then he gave her a sad smile before getting in his car and leaving.
* END FLASHBACK
'Had he been selfish when he thought about going undercover?'
It wasn't just him anymore; it was now him, Kensi and the baby they had on the way that he had to think about.
Marty knew now what he had to do.
When he came out of his thoughts and looking at the time, he realized he had been sitting in his car for the past five minutes...he was late for his meeting with Bates.
So getting out of the car Marty made his way into the precinct and to Bates office.
BATES OFFICE...
Marty made his way into Bates office and took a seat in a chair across from him.
"Glad you could come, Deeks..." Bates began, but Marty wanted to get straight to the point.
"I'm sorry, but I can't go undercover..." Marty said and Bates looked at him in shock.
"Deeks, I need you on this...you're one of my best undercover detectives." Bates tried, but Marty was already shaking his head.
"For the past few years I have been a liaison between the LAPD and NCIS. I feel more at home at NCIS, like I have a family..." Marty started to explain.
"Does this have something to do with your partner at NCIS?" Bates asked and Marty gave a small smile.
"As a matter of fact it does. Kensi is not only my partner, but also my fiancée' and soon to be the mother of my child. I can't leave her while she's pregnant or ever again. You can take my gun and badge, because I am going to sign the papers and become an NCIS Agent." Marty said hoping Bates would understand.
"So you're letting NCIS steal one of my best detectives?" Bates asked. "NCIS never stole me; it's just where I belong now." Marty said and Bates gave a sigh.
"You're kind of leaving me in a bind here with having to find another detective to send on this assignment, Deeks. Are you sure you can't go on this last assignment?" Bates asked.
"I don't think it would be a good idea, because I would be too distracted and something could happen to jeopardize the investigation." Marty explained. "All right I'll see what I can about finding another detective..." Bates said and with a nod Marty got up to leave.
Now he could go back to Kensi's house and surprise her.
Marty walked out of the precinct with a smile on his face at how surprised Kensi was going to be, ignoring the other cops.
MARTY'S CAR...
Marty got into his car and headed back to Kensi's house, knowing he would have to wait until tomorrow to go to NCIS and sign the papers to become an NCIS Agent.
The drive seemed to take forever and it seemed he was getting stuck at every red light. It felt like someone was playing a cruel joke on him with the stop lights.
Finally Marty pulled up in front of Kensi's house and shut off the car, then getting out...he headed up the walk way and used his key to open the door.
KENSI'S HOUSE...
He made his way to the living room, he found Kensi sitting on the couch with her gun pointed at him.
KENSI'S LIVING ROOM...
"Jeez, Kens, are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Marty asked. "What about are you doing here?" Kensi asked as she lowered her gun and he could tell she was still pissed at him.
"Kensi..." Marty began. "I thought you had an assignment with the LAPD...you job since you job seems to be more important than your family." Kensi said and Marty took her lowed gun from her hand, and then he set the gun down, before coming to sit beside her on the couch.
"My job is not more important than you, our baby or everyone else I consider family. I told Bates I couldn't go undercover and tomorrow I will be handing in my resignation to the LAPD." Marty explained and Kensi looked at him in shock unsure if she had heard him right.
"You did what?" Kensi asked. "Once I give the LAPD my letter of resignation, I am going to sign the papers and become an NCIS Agent." Marty replied. "Are you doing this because I want you to?" Kensi asked.
"No, Kensi, I am doing this because NCIS is my home and is more like a family to me, then the LAPD ever was. I don't want to miss a moment of you being pregnant, because the LAPD wants to send me on assignment for who knows how long. Before you ask if I am sure...yes, I am. Being a cop is a part of who I am, but my family is more important." Marty said as he took her hands in his and Kensi looked at him as a smile started to cross her face.
"So you're not going on this last assignment for the LAPD?" Kensi asked still not believing him.
"Nope, I told Bates my family is more important." Marty said pressing his lips to hers and smiling against her lips when he felt her kissing him back.
