Damon hurried back to Klaus's quarters, noticing that everybody was looking at him like he was crazy. He couldn't blame them, as the dark circles underneath his eyes and the ever growing stubble made him look like he had just escaped from a mental hospital.

He knocked impatiently, and as soon as Klaus opened the door, he hurried right in without even allowing Klaus to invite him inside.

"Please, do come in," Klaus said sarcastically.

"I'll take the deal," Damon said, panting. "I'll do it. Whatever you want, I'll do it. Just please, save Elena."

"Calm down," Klaus walked over to him slowly, a drink in his hand. "Have a seat."

Damon sighed at the calmness of Klaus's tone, but decided to be patient, as Klaus was the only one who could help him.

He accepted the drink and Klaus sat down next to him. He downed the scotch, leant forward with his hands on his knees, and played with the glass in his hand. "Have you thought about this? There's no going back. Once Elena is a vampire, she cannot ever be human again."

Damon nodded his head slowly.

"As I said," Klaus continued. "I'll need the three of you, the baby included, by my side. There are still a lot of unanswered questions about Elena's bond with you, her very strange pregnancy and humanity in general. The war won't be easy, I won't be gentle. Are you sure you want me to do this?"

"Please," Damon begged him. "I've made my choice."

"Good," Klaus said. "You won't be treated as prisoners as long as you hold your end of the bargain. You can start living with me and I will need your assistance in taking my brothers down. You'll also allow me to study Elena closely, as I believe that there's more to her than all of you see."

"So it's all about power, then," Damon added, resigned. "You want to take your brother's place in the authority, you want to have the full control of witches, werewolves, vampires and now even Elena and my child as you find them to be different…Different species."

"Good, Damon!" Klaus clapped sarcastically. "You finally get it. I want to be king. I want to be worshipped. Now you can either join me, or you can die with the rest of them. My brothers will have to back down. If you're wise, choose the right side."

"I told you," Damon said after a while. "I've made my choice. Help her, and we'll join you. We'll help you take down your brothers."

"Very well, then," Klaus said. "I'll even sweeten the deal for you." He took another drink. "You know that because of your mistake with dearest Katherine, your brother ended up in prison. If I'm the new leader, your brother will be freed. I'll make sure that your mother and the people you care about will remain unharmed. All I want in return is your assistance. I also have to warn you, however, that Elena will see a lot of humans who are mine. They belong to me and have no freedom or rights."

Damon's heart tightened a little. Elena, who was sweet and kind and who hated violence, was going to be dragged in a world where not only there was war, but in a world where she'll have to see innocent humans treated like crap.

"So, do we have a deal?" He asked patiently.

Damon took a deep breath. "Yes."

"Lara!" Klaus barked, and in two minutes, a young girl in her twenties came to stand in front of him.

"Are you thirsty, sir?"

"No. Get Gianella and Adele, will you?"

"Of course, sir."

"So impolite," He barked again, pulling Lara from the waist and pushing her in Damon's direction. "Where are your manners, stupid human? Offer him a drink!"

Lara's eyes locked with Damon's and she started to part her hair, putting it on her shoulder, exposing her neck. "Sir, would you like a drink?"

"No, thank you," Damon said stiffly.

Klaus motioned for her to get out. "Why didn't you take it? She's quite delicious."

"I'm fine, thank you."

"Surely you must've tasted some of Elena's blood?"

"I did."

"It makes you hallucinate the first few times," Klaus said with a sigh. "I first found a human in the woods. They had been hiding there for years. I was taught that they were a myth, but it turns out that the war between vampires and humans all of those centuries ago was real. Three families survived in total. They procreated and well, you know the rest. When I first found them, I made sure to keep them here. They are very valuable, especially when it comes to creating more blood bags and doing the dirty work. I've built houses for them but I like to keep one or two here with me." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. "I made sure to keep producing a variety of foods when I learnt that they survive mostly on food and water. Seriously, Damon…I don't know how you never realised that soup does not actually decrease the cravings. Of course not…It was made for the humans."

"So you kept them a secret, so that you could have the upper hand in everything."

"Exactly," Klaus smirked, "They might seem small, Damon, but they can be quite strong and valuable if you train them properly."

Before Damon could say anything else, two other girls walked in.

"Gianella, Adele…" He smirked, "This is Damon."

They smiled a little at him but turned their attention to Klaus.

"You can wake Elena up now," He told them. "He has made his choice."

They nodded, closed their eyes and started to chant something in Latin. Klaus led Damon to the room where Elena was laid, and he held his breath as he heard the witches chant harder until she sucked in a large breath.

"She won't be able to talk," Klaus said before Damon could ask her anything. Her eyes were bloodshot and she struggled to breathe, the cut in her belly making it almost impossible for her to remain alive much longer. Klaus immediately handed Elena a cup full of blood, and he forced her barely conscious body up so that she could drink.

He pulled away and Damon ran towards her, watching as Elena's eyebrows narrowed in confusion and fear when she realised what she had been drinking. She wiped her lips from the awful taste, still not completely sure what was going on. Then, she felt a deep hunger and she snatched the cup of blood again, drinking thirstily and almost barbarically. It was only when she felt red drops running down her chin that she pulled back, her hands shaking.

Damon's gaze fixed with Elena's, unable to even let out a word. Her eyes had turned into a shade of dark red, and confusion was still written on her face. Her lips were pressed into a tight line, and then she looked at Damon closely.

"Damon?" She finally let the word out, and Damon did not even realise that he was crying until he felt the moisture run down his cheeks.

"Elena!" In a sudden, she was in his arms and he kissed her gently, lovingly. His hands buried themselves deep in her hair, as he kissed everywhere he could reach, causing her to raise her eyebrows confusedly.

"Damon? Are you okay?" She asked, worried.

"Why wouldn't I be?" He continued to kiss her.

"You're kissing me like you haven't seen me in months, dear…" Elena said, looking at the strange surroundings. "Where am I?"

"Oh, Elena!" Damon replied when he realised that she hadn't yet figured out what happened to her.

She looked down at her belly and let out a gasp when she saw the huge, deep cut. Horror sunk in to Elena's features and she let out a slight whimper, but surprisingly, she couldn't feel any pain.

"Damon? What's going on?" She asked, a tear escaping from her cheek. She looked at Klaus behind him and she flinched. Her hands started to shake when she realised that she was in a casket. "Damon, please…you're scaring me."

"Elena," Damon broke down in front of her.

"Damon, where's the baby? The baby…I remember the baby!" Elena cried out, "Where is it?"

Damon couldn't even speak.

"Wait…" Elena said, her eyes wide. "I told you to get it out…I…." She looked down at the deep cut in her lower half and realization started to set in.

"Am I d-dead? Am I i-imagining all of this? Talk to me, please!"

"Elena," Damon helped her up and put her on a chair, "Look." He looked at the deep cut in her belly and Elena's gaze fixed on it, watching as it started to slowly close up.

"W-What?"

He cupped her face gently. "We need to talk."

Damon stroked Elena's back soothingly as she cried. Klaus had left to give them some time to talk and he explained everything to her, informing her of what to expect now that she was a vampire.

"I am so, so sorry, Elena…" Damon said as she cried in his arms, "I didn't want to lose you. I'm so, so, sorry."

"Shh. I know that, you were trying to save me-" She whispered faintly.

"Please, Elena, don't hate me for this. I couldn't live without you, Elena…"

"Shh. Damon…I can never hate you." Elena looked into his eyes and picked up his hand. "You had no choice. I know that you love me."

"It was selfish of me, I know that…"

"Damon, stop," Elena threw herself at him. "Please. Stop. Just…tell me about the baby. Is it a boy or a girl?"

"It's a boy," Damon said faintly.

When he didn't elaborate, Elena's hands started to shake. "Damon, what's wrong? What are you not telling me? What is his name? Is he healthy?"

"No, Elena, you don't have to be worried," Damon said, taking her hand in his. "He's healthy."

"Damon, you're lying to me. What's wrong?"

"Fine! I don't know, okay? I know that he's healthy and I know that it's a boy but I didn't…I didn't even give it a name."

"It?" Elena's eyes widened in horror, "You hated the baby, didn't you? You blamed him for my death!"

"What was I supposed to do, Elena? I was a man who had just lost his soulmate because of a baby that was not supposed to be due for months! I had to rip you open to get him out! I had to kill you, Elena! I killed you!"

"The baby didn't have anything to do with it!" Elena cried, "It was all Kayla! The baby's innocent!"

"I lost you, Elena! What part of that don't you get?" He cupped her face firmly. "I thought you were gone forever. I didn't even want to live. He was in safe hands."

"He needed his dad."

"And I needed you."

Elena wiped a tear that had fallen down from her cheek at some time during the conversation. Before she could speak, however, a whimper left her throat as she felt enormous pain in her jaw, pain that was so enormous that she fell off the chair and to her knees.

"Oh my God, Damon…what's happening to me? My jaw…My gums!"

"Elena, relax!" Damon screamed when he saw tears gathering in her eyes, "The pain you are feeling is an indication that your fangs are coming out for the first time. I need you to relax, okay? It won't always hurt, Elena. I promise you," He said, stroking her tears away with his thumb.

"It hurts…please make it stop, just please!"

"Elena, I'm so, so sorry…" He murmured, heartbroken. "I'm so sorry you have to go through this."

Elena remained silent, tears streaming down her cheek as the pain continued to worsen. "I'm so scared, Damon…"

"I know, dear. I know…I am too," He hugged her tightly to him. "I am too."
