I know you've waited a pretty decent amount of time for this chapter considering the last chapter was sort of a cliffhanger but it's here now so read away!

"Whoa, I'm like the Dead Sea
The nicest words you ever said to me
Honey can't you see
I was born to be, be your dead sea"
-Dead Sea.
-The Lumineers
I waited at least another hour in the ER before any other doctors came to talk to me. I still had blood work that had to be done. Dr. Williams had said that she requested to have me moved to a separate room and stay over night. Not only to make sure that my stitches settled correctly but also because I had a concussion and she didn't want to send me home alone.
Eli still wasn't there and I didn't know if he was coming at all.
I had stitches in my knee, elbow and shoulder. My other shoulder had been displaced and they had reset it in the ambulance. My nose was also broken and they had bandaged it. Alli said that she had seen it before they covered it up and I had a pretty dark bruise but I'm sure it was nothing in comparison to the two black eyes I had.
The ambulance doctors had also removed all the glass and gravel from my wounds, including the one above my left ear. The cut traveled from eye level, but further back and in my hair, behind my ear and to the base of my neck. That also was stitched up. My hair was still matted with blood and I was covered in dirt. The only thing I really wanted to do right now was shower.
I tried not to stay angry. I tried to focus on other things. There was an old romantic comedy playing in the room I was in with the other patients. Alli kept bringing in books and magazines to distract me. I even kept my hands on my belly so I could focus on the kicks I felt from within me.
None of it worked.
I was furious.
Eli wasn't there. Every time he was in the hospital I was there for him so why couldn't he be there for me?
It wasn't even about that though. I went to the hospital when he was hurt because I was worried about him. I wanted to make sure he was okay. Maybe he just didn't care if I was okay or not.
I tried to not let that thought get the best of me. I knew he cared but it hurt that he wasn't there with me. Alli was trying but I needed Eli.
"Okay Clare." Dr. Williams walked in. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
I shrugged. "Alright I guess." I still sounded funny from my lips being swollen.
"Great. It'll be just a few minutes and then we'll move you into a different room. We want to make sure that you're perfectly well before we send you on your way."
I knew that I could never be perfectly well again. There was too much wrong with me.
"Great." I said.
She nodded and walked out. I turned to Alli.
"Has he called you yet?"
She shook her head. "No. I think his phone is dead or something. But I texted him so when he charges it he'll see the message."
I nodded. "Okay. Thanks." I said.
"Clare, I'm so sorry."
"I just don't understand." I said. "How could he not be here right now?"
"He was working. He didn't know."
"Yeah but we called him."
"I know."
"So where is he?"
She shrugged. "Right now just focus on healing. Okay? That's all you can do."
I nodded and Dr. Williams came in again. This time she had two nurses with her.
"Okay Clare, we're going to roll you down to your other room." The nurses got behind the bed and were about to push it.
"I can walk." I said. "Really."
She shook her head. "Your concussion is pretty bad, Clare. We wouldn't want you to get dizzy and fall." she nodded to the nurses who started pushing the bed out of the room.
"Alli." I said.
"I'll follow you."
I was wheeled out of the room and towards the right hallway.
"Do you have any idea where she is?" I heard a voice ask by the desk.
"No, it says she just checked out of the ER." the receptionist said.
"She has to be here. I know she is." The voice was Eli's.
"Sorry, but she's not checked into a room yet. She must've left."
"No, I know she's here. Can you check again?" I tried to turn to see him.
"She's not here."
"You probably spelled her name wrong. There isn't an i. It's C-L-A-R-E. And her last name is Edwards."
"Eli." I tried to yell but my voice was scratchy.
"You're not family I can't let you in to see her even if I knew where she was."
"I'm her fiance`. I have to see her."
"Alli," I said and pointed to the front desk.
She turned and saw him. She took off towards the desk and grabbed him.
The nurses continued to wheel me off into the room. Alli and Eli walked in seconds after me.
"Clare," Eli said. He pushed past the nurses and ran towards me.
I started crying and he grabbed my hands. He fell to his knees beside my bed.
"Oh my god. Are you okay? What happened?"
Even though I was furious at him and all I wanted to do was scream I didn't tell him about Becky. I didn't say anything.
He looked at me and waited before speaking again. "Clare?"
He eyed me and I knew what he was trying to ask. He just didn't want to say it.
"The baby is fine, Eli." I said, sniffing.
He smiled like he couldn't believe it. "Clare," he breathed. He leaned up to kiss my forehead and cheeks and I winced at his touch.
"Well what about you?" he asked.
I started to cry. I clenched my teeth to keep from sobbing.
"I'm fine." I lied. I couldn't do it for much longer.
"You look awful." He said. His fingers pushed my bloody hair behind my ear and rubbed the stitches that laid there.
I cried out and he flinched away. "Don't." I said. "Stitches."
"Oh my God. How did this happen?"
I just shrugged and the nurses came in. They started taking blood and Eli squinted at the needles. I was used to them by now.
Alli was behind Eli and he turned to her. "Thank you for bringing her here, again. I really wish you didn't have to keep doing this."
She shook her head. "I didn't." she said.
I still didn't know who was in the alley with me just hours before. I didn't know who it was that called the ambulance.
"Then who did?" he asked, turning to me.
I shrugged. "I'm not sure."
"How is that? You don't remember?"
Dr. Williams walked in and Eli turned to her. "Dr. Williams, who checked Clare into the ER?"
"Well, she wasn't technically admitted by anyone but the 911 call came from a Lillian Dawes."
"Dawes?" he asked. "What were you doing with her? Where were you?"
Where was I ? I felt like I should be asking him that. "At the Dot." I said, trying not to remember all the details.
"Clare, we'll let you go tomorrow around noon. After you've been up for twelve hours. I'll let you know when your bloodwork comes back." Dr. Williams said.
"Can you stay with her?" Eli asked turning to Alli. She glanced at me.
"You're leaving?" I asked, amazed that I could be in the hospital and he still wouldn't stay.
"I have work in a few hours. It's almost three now. I'll stay with you until morning." he assured me.
I felt a sharp pain in my side like I had a few weeks ago.
I grabbed the painful spot and Dr. Williams checked my IV bag. "I think your pain medication is fading. I'll have a nurse come in and fix this." she said.
"So Alli, can you stay tomorrow?"
"No!" I yelled. Eli turned to me.
"Clare,"
"Eli, you're staying with me." I spat through tears.
"I would if I could but I-"
"You can."
He didn't say anything and Alli looked between us. "I'll give you two a minute."
She left and Eli looked at me. "Clare, what's wrong?"
I scoffed. "Are you kidding? What's wrong, Eli? I'll give you one guess."
"Look, I'm sure whatever happened tonight-"
"It doesn't matter." I yelled. "Where the Hell were you?"
He looked like he didn't know what to say. "I was at work Clare, you know that."
"And your phone was dead? Is that why you didn't answer?"
His eyes looked sad. "I'm not allowed to-"
"You're not allowed to answer your phone even if your fiance` and baby are in trouble? In the ER?"
"I-"
"We needed you." I spat. Salty tears burned in my, already swollen eyes, but the pain of Eli putting work before us hurt me more. "We were in danger and you weren't there."
"Danger? Clare, what-"
"I needed you. We needed you."
"I'm sorry." he said, his eyes were big and white tears were in his eyelids.
I loved Eli with all my heart but in that moment all I wanted to do was hurt him so he would feel how much pain I was in right now.
"You always say that you're working for us but you're never actually here. You're absent."
He didn't say anything, just sat and stared at me.
"So go to work. Leave again. There's nothing I can do about it anymore. I'm sick of trying."
"Clare, please." he reached out for my hand and I flinched away.
I turned away from him and my body ached with sobs. "Just go."
So there it was! I hope that was satisfying since you guys waited so long for it! If not oh well. Sorry.
Leave me a review letting me know if you liked it! Also let me know what you think the name and gender of the baby should be!
Thanks for reading!
