Her Parents - In-laws Are Odd

It was morning time and Jake was making breakfast.

"You want some more eggs, BMO?" Jake asked

"Yes, please," BMO replied

Jake slid some more eggs onto BMO's plate. "How 'bout you, Rox? Need some more eggs?"

"Think I'm good on eggs but I could use some more syrup for these here pancakes," Roxy said

"Can do. How about you Finny Need a refill on some eggs?" Jake asked

"I'm pretty full, man but lemme see if I can...rearrange." Finn grabbed his stomach pushing the contents inside around. "Nope. Can't do it."

"I don't know if stomachs work like that, dude," Jake said

"Sometimes it helps," Finn said

"Can't argue with that!" Jake sat down next to Finn relaxing into his seat with a satisfied, "Ahh…"

Finn sinks lower into his seat relaxing too.

Roxy cut into her pancakes just as Jake's phone started to ring. He pulled the device out answering it.

"Hello? Lady, it's gonna be fine. Mm-hmm. Alright, I love you, too. Bye."

After the short conversation, Jake hangs up the phone.

"Lady Rainicorn again?" Finn questioned

"Yeah, man. She's worried about introducing me to her parents at lunch today. She thinks they're gonna freak out," Jake said

"Sounds like Lady needs something to calm herself down," Roxy stated

"Maybe Jake can give her parents some treasure?" Finn suggested

"No way! That's our treasure! Wait. I've got it, dude! I'll invite them over early, smooth them over using my personality, and we'll all be best friends before Lady gets here, so she doesn't have to feel nervous! It's perfect! I'll just send them a quick Prism-gram." Jake pulled out his prism typing a message before sending it off. It only took a few seconds before he got a reply.

"What's it say?" Finn and Roxy asked

"Hold on. It's still converting the light waves into brain waves." The prism shoots a beam of light into Jake's head. "Ahh, They're into it, dudes!"

"Sweet! Let's go powder our noses!" Finn said

"Why's Lady so nervous, anyway?" Finn asked Jake.

"Well, she didn't really say, but it might have somethin' to do with the Rainicorn-Dog Wars," Jake said

"Rainicorn-Dog what now?" Roxy said

"There were wars between rainicorns and dogs?" Finn asked

"Horrifying wars. For thousands of years, rainicorns battled dogs over territory in the Crystal Dimension, but Lady and I are cool," Jake said as if was no big deal.

"Dude! Her parents are probably all full of dog-hatred from the war-times! They're gonna see you're a dog and forbid Lady from ever hanging out with you again!" Finn exclaimed

Jake paused but then waved his hand, "Nah. That could never happen."

"You didn't think this through enough it could happen!" Finn shouted

"It is a possibility. Why would Lady be so worried if it wasn't," Roxy added

"AAAH! I'M A MORON!" Jake shouted

"Don't worry. I've got a plan that's gonna solve this biz. Homies help homies. Always, right Roxy?" Finn said

"Yup, but since I'm a girl so that makes me a homiette," Roxy said

"Gotcha!" Finn said

"I'm ready to hear your plan, homie," Jake said

As Finn whispered something into Jake's ear Roxy leaned against the wall crossing her arms.

"Something tells me this is gonna get odd," Roxy said

Roxy was right when she found herself walking into the main room/treasure room. In her hands was two cans of paint, and she had some paint brushes tucked under her arms. When Finn said he and Jake were going to need some things to paint with she took it upon herself to go fetch some paint she had seen while exploring the treefort.

She was caught off guard when she came back to find Finn and Jake painted up. Jake had also shapeshifted into the form of a Rainicorn, horn and all. They weren't painted very well and whatever they had used to substitute for paint was sliding and dripping off of them.

"What the? How'd you guys paint yourselves? I've got the paint right here." Roxy walked over to Finn and Jake sniffing them. "Is this ketchup?" *SNIFF SNIFF* "And mustard?"

"Don't forget relish and mayo," Finn added

"It's all we had," Jake said

"Ughhh," Roxy dropped the cans of paint slapping her forehead.

"You know, I thought painting ourselves rainbow-color using condiments and stuff from the fridge, so we could pretend to be rainicorns was a good idea when you pitched it to me five minutes ago, but now I'm not so sure, man," Jake said

"Come ooonnn. Trust me, homie," Finn tried reassuring Jake.

Jake shook his head worried, "No, no, no, new plan. First, we're gonna clean this place up, and then-"

*DING DONG*

"Huh?!" Jake shouted

"Jake?" An older female voice called out.

The voice instantly sent Jake into a panicked frenzy. "AAAAH! LET'S HIDE AND BURN THE HOUSE DOWN!"

The doorbell rings two more times before Roxy and Finn push Jake over to the door. He opens the door slowly only peeking the top of his head outside to face Lady's parents.

The mother looked like an older version of Lady, and the father instead of having the normal long body was quite short in length. Both rainicorn's were wearing glasses and voice translators.

"Hello?" Bob, Lady's father, greeted.

"안녕하세요," Jake greeted back.

"Jake, is that you?" Ethel, Lady's mother, asked

Jake slowly nodded his head. "Uh-huh."

"Are you going to let us in?" Ethel asked

"Y-yeeeaaah…" Jake opened the door revealing himself.

"AAAAAAHHHH!" Ethel screamed

"I can explain! I can explain!" Jake panicked

"OOOHHHHH, he's so handsome!" Turns out Ethel's cries were actually excited squeals. "Oh, Bob, our daughter's finally found a handsome rainicorn to love!"

"You think I'm a rainicorn?" Jake questioned

Bob gave a scoff like chuckle. "I think we can spot a member of our own species, Jake. We're not blind."

"Well, we are a little blind," Ethel stated adjusting the glasses on her face.

"Yes, I guess we are a little blind," Bob agreed

"Uh, well, hey! Come on in! It's awesome to finally meet you both!" Jake stepped aside allowing the two Rainicorn's to come in.

"Your house is very colorful. I like that!" Ethel complimented

"Haha! The plan is working, homie!" Finn whispered to Jake.

"Jake, what is that thing that's talking?" Bob asked pointing at Finn.

"Uh...that's um…" Jake nervously stuttered trying to find a believable answer.

"I'm Jake's rainicorn roommate! Everyone do the traditional rainicorn rain dance!"

Roxy sighed as Finn started dancing. Sure Jake was able to trick Ethel and Bob, but there's no way Finn was fooling those two.

"Jake, please ask your goblin butler to stop insulting my heritage!" Bob frowned sounding upset.

"Uh... y-yes! Get outta here, goblin! Go fetch us some rainicorn snacks!" Jake commanded

Finn immediately stopped dancing, "But-"

"Come on, homie, help me!" Jake whispered

"Ha! You got it, homie!" Finn whispered back giving Jake a smile.

As Finn left the room Ethel and Bob spotted Roxy.

"Who is this?" Ethel asked

"She's uhm that-"

"My my my, you are a rare one," Ethel said interrupting Jake.

Ethel and Bob walked over to Roxy circling the girl as they examined her.

"Oh isn't this exciting dear," Ethel smiled

"Yeah, I can't believe I'm seeing one in person," Bob said

Roxy, just like Jake, was rather confused by the Rainicorn's words.

"Uhm thank you?" Roxy said

"Oh, we must take a picture," Ethel said

Roxy quickly found herself squished in between the two Rainicorn's as they took a selfie.

Jake tilted his head even more confused.

"Everyone back home is going to be so jealous," Ethel said

"Cool?" Roxy spoke not sure what to say.

"Uh, please, c-come upstairs," Jake said finally taking the Rainicorn's attention off of Roxy.

Jake brought Lady's parents to the living room, while Roxy ventured to the kitchen to go help, Finn.

"So how's it going?" Finn asked

"Good I guess?" Roxy shrugged her shoulders.

"Something happen?" Finn asked noting Roxy's strange demeanor.

"Well Lady's parents are nice and all but a little off. They called me rare and took a picture with me," Roxy said

"Hmmmm? Maybe it's because you're human. I mean the only humans around are you and me," Finn guessed

"I guess, but they didn't do that with you," Roxy said

"Well, that's because of my disguise or maybe its because you're a girl and I'm a boy," Finn said

"Maybe, let's just get on those snacks," Roxy said

"Right!" Finn agreed

Roxy filled up a tray of drinks while Finn grabbed the food.

"Snacks! Get your snacks!" Finn announced walking into the living room.

Jake who was now back in panic mode rushed over to Finn and Roxy. "Dudes! I have to show Lady's parents that I have rainbow powers! I need homie help!"

"Rainicorn powers? Do you mean that changing things different colors with their horns power?" Roxy asked

Jake nodded his head yes.

Finn thought for a second. "Hmm, I got a plan, bro-ham. Just stretch your horn at me, and I'll take care of the rest."

"You're the best, homie," Jake said

"Homies help homies," Finn said

"Haha!" Jake steps away and points his "horn" at Finn. "Cablatapuamba!" He shouted before blowing a raspberry.

Finn holds his breath and due to the lack of air, his face starts to turn bright red. Ethel and Bob clap at Jake's "Rainicorn Powers". Finn, with no air his lungs, falls back but luckily Roxy was there to catch him before he hit the ground.

"Very unusual color palette, Jake," Ethel said

"Yes. Subtle," Bob agreed

"Whoo! Oh, yeah!" Jake cheered. He slid up next to Roxy and Finn. "Is he okay?"

Before Roxy could answer Bob spoke up.

"How about we play some more traditional rainicorn games, my boy?"

"I, uh...Oh. Um…" Jake stuttered before answering, "Let's do it!"

"Let the games begin!" Bob and Ethel cheered

~ Rainicorn Games Montage! ~

Bob and Ethel were flying, Jake was flying but not like the two Rainicorn's with him. Instead, he had Roxy and Finn holding him up.

"I'm sorry," Jake whispered

Finn and Roxy scowl crushed under Jake's Rainicorn body.

Next, Ethel, Bob, and Jake wrestled using their horns. Ethel charges into Finn from behind and knocks him down. Ethel and Bob laugh having a good time, while Finn scowls for a second time looking at Jake who just shrugs his shoulders with a "what can I do?" look. Bob then came after Roxy with his horn. Roxy screeched and out of instinct summoned her shield. Bob ran right into it bouncing off. Jake gasped eyes and mouth wide open fearful, that is until Bob and Ethel started laughing again. Roxy was confused as she was brought back into the Rainicorn sandwich and the two Rainicorn's snapped another picture with her.

The next activity involved Finn being placed on Ethel, who was coiled up like a boxspring. She springs forth sending Finn flying through the air, and he crashes into a glass bottle. Before he could recover Bob retrieved Finn then placed him on a coiled up Jake, who does the same thing. Finn flies through the ceiling of the treefort crashing into the living room.

~ Montage Over! ~

"Yo, my bad! I'll get 'im!" Jake said to Bob and Ethel. He runs into the fort seeing Roxy helping a rather banged up Finn.

"Hey, man. How's it goin'?" Jake asked

"IT'S GOING CRUD-COW!" Finn angrily yelled

"Yeah man, look at Finn," Roxy said

"I know, I know, I'm sorry. But they really like me. Your plan is working perfectly!" Jake said

"Being poked in the buns and laughed at was not in my plan! Not in the plan!" Finn shouted

"Look, Finn, you know I got yo back fo'-eva', but right now, you and Roxy the only ones who can help me. Come on, homie, homiette," Jake gives the two a smile but their angered looks don't change. "Homies help homies." Jake nudged the two earning a small smile from the humans.

That's when Ethel and Bob entered the house laughing.

"Hey, guys. You ready to get this game goin' again?" Jake asked

"Oh, no, we're pooped," Ethel said

"Yeah, we're about ready to break out our picnic basket and dig in!" Bob said

"Wohhh, no. You're my guests. Let me take care of you." Jake leaned close to Finn and Roxy. "Homies help me cook something, please."

"Okay," Finn agreed

"I'll help but you know I'm really only good at baking," Roxy said

"Thanks, guys." Jake turns to Ethel and Bob. "Okay. Don't worry about a thing. Finn'll make a great lunch. He's a little raw, but he's got great taste. Plus Roxy makes awesome pie."

"What?! Wow! So wealthy, and so generous!" Bob said

"Ah! I was hoping!" Ethel giggled. "I was afraid to ask!"

Ethel and Bob gather around Finn and Bob rips Finn's shirt off.

"WAAAH! Jake! I think they wanna eat me!" Finn cried

"Of course we do! Jake said you'd 'make a great lunch'!" Ethel said

"That not what he meant!" Roxy shouted

"JAKE! COME ON!" Finn screamed

"Man, oh, man, oh, man, oh, man," Jake chanted panicking.

"Jake seriously!" Roxy shouted

Bob opened wide and bit Finn's stomach.

"AAAH! Knock it off, Bob!" Finn shouted punching the Rainicorn in the nose.

Ethel, angry, punched Finn. "Don't you touch him!"

The three started fighting, punching and biting taking place.

"Jake come on! Finn needs you! Remember Homies help homies, always," Roxy said

Jake got a serious look on his face. "Homies help homies, always. Come on, stop it, guys! Come on, y'all, I said stop!" Jake growls growing huge. "NOW, THAT'S ENOUGH! Nobody's eating Finn! He's not my butler, and he's not food! Finn is my friend!"

Ethel and Bob gasp at this new information.

"I'm sorry I let the lies get so far outta hand. I just got so scared of losing Lady! But if they hate me, so be it. No more lies." Jake shrinks down going into his original form.

Ethel gasped. "You're a dog?"

"Yeah, I just," Jake groaned. "Look, I'm sorry about everything. I was-"

"YAAAAAY! HA-HEEEY! HURRAAAY!"

Jake was cut off as the two Rainicorn's cheered and started dancing around Jake.

"Uh, uh…" Jake was confused until someone new entered the tree fort. "Lady?!"

"어, 나도 우리 부모님 때문에 걱정했었어! 우리 엄마아빠는 개라면 완전 맛이 가거든! 개가 전쟁터에서 우리 아빠 생명을 구해줬었어!" Lady Rainicorn said

"What did she say?" Finn asked

"She said she worried that they'd freak out 'cause her parents are bananas for dogs!" Jake said

"J.J. FLIP! What the zip?!" Finn questioned

"Roxy is also surprised. What in the what is going on?" Roxy asked

Lady handed the two humans a photo. It was of a younger Bob and a dog who had similar features to Jake.

"Yeah! She says a dog saved her dad in the war!" Jake said

"Wow! That's flippin' awesome," Finn said

"What an unexpected but happy turn of events," Roxy said

Everyone gathered outside having a picnic, this time no Finn on the menu. Ethel and Bob handed out the food but Finn nor Roxy ate simply staring at their sandwiches.

"Finn," Ethel spoke shaking Finn out of his stupor.

Finn finally looked away from his food. "Wha?"

"Listen, I just want you to know how sorry we are about trying to eat you," Ethel apologized

"It's just we thought we'd never get another chance. We thought humans were extinct," Bob explained

"Oh," Finn said

"Okay, I gotta ask then why didn't you try and eat me?" Roxy asked

"Oh dear we would never do something like that," Ethel said

"Yes that would be terrible," Bob added

"Terrible? As in I would taste bad?" Roxy pondered

"No dear, I'm sure you taste delicious," Ethel smiled pinching one of Roxy's cheeks. "But we could never eat something as precious as you."

"Oh that's good I guess," Roxy said

"So...this isn't human?" Jake questioned gesturing to his food.

"Oh, no. This is soy people!" Ethel said

"Oh," Finn said

"I've never tasted real human before, but they say you can't even tell the difference!" Ethel said

Finn and Roxy look hesitantly at their food.

"Ew, Soy?" Jake took a bite out of his sandwich. "FINN, ROXY, YOU GUYS ARE DELICIOUS!"

Roxy and Finn glance at one another before looking at everyone who was enjoying their meal. They each take a cautious bite out their food surprised to find it tasted quite good.

They look at one another smiling before continuing to eat.
