Thank you to everyone who reviewed the previous chapter and gave me such positive response.

I'm so sorry I haven't been able to update sooner. I have so much sh*t going on in my life right now it's insane.

So, not the perfect time or place for people hunted by a maniac to be having a child, but of course Klaus and Caroline are still unaware of Mikael's return. What could possibly go wrong? ;)

Guest: To answer you, as I have described, Caroline (during this pregnancy) has become more predatory. This is part of her instinct to protect her child and is not something she can control but there is a scene planned in a later chapter where the issue you address will be faced and explained.

As for her understanding Bonnie, she is just fed up and has decided not to bother. Caroline has always been the person that is expected to fix everything and to be there for her friends but they won't be there for her.

Again I have planned a scene for a future chapter involving the two – and also Kol.

If you have an idea or a suggestion considering this story do not hesitate to let me know :) Lyrics are My Child by Plumb.

...

Your eyes
My eyes
Your smile
My smile
Your love
My gain
Your hurt
My pain
Your laugh
My joy
Every time, it's mine
You are my child

I will always protect you
Oh and I will even let you go
I'll spend the sweetest time holding you
And will let you grow

The Mikaelson's had been expecting the witch Eliana Agavez for two days and she still hadn't shown up, and her phone went straight to voicemail every time Elijah attempted to reach her. It was obvious something wasn't right.

But in the middle of their heated debate of whether the witch could be trusted or not, the door bell rang and all six of them turned their heads to stare at the door. Several seconds passed before Klaus marched over there to open it, followed by his older brother in case the hybrid would become a tad angry.

Klaus jerked the door open and on the other side they found a young woman, not much older than Caroline standing on their doorstep with her right hand raised to ring the bell once more while her left arm had a beaded bag dangling from it.

The girl had intense, dark eyes and sharp cheek bones but her mouth formed a soft smile and she kneeled ever so slightly.

The young girl had seashells and feathers in her long hair and apart from the simple red tank top, she wore a pair of thin harem pants covered in tribal patterns in red, yellow and brown and brown leather sandals.

"Señor Mikaelson." She said softly and blinked her long lashes. "Please forgive my lateness, something came up that I had to deal with."

Her accent was as thick as the black curls that fell around her shoulders and Elijah swallowed hard. She reminded him so much of his love, Katarina.

"Miss Agavez, I presume." Klaus began and his eyes were cold as he watched her every move with suspicion. He moved aside and reached out his arm to show her inside. "Come in."

Her smile was sugary sweet as she stepped inside but as soon as her back was towards them her features hardened. She was determined to seek out the baby vampire.

The beaded bag swung from side to side and her sandals clicked against the stone floor as Eliana marched up to the blonde, stopping inches away from her and scanning her from head to toe, poking and sniffing at her and Caroline had a concerned and confused frown on her face as she shook her head and looked over at Elijah as if she blamed him for bringing a crazy person inside the house.

Lastly, Eliana grabbed Caroline's wrist and forced her hand up to her face to study her palm. She slid her fingers along the lines and mumbled and huffed to herself.

Caroline eventually rolled her eyes.

"Well?" she asked a little too bitchy and snatched her hand back. The witch looked her in the eyes before she turned to look at Klaus. The hybrid was getting frustrated and worried at her behaviour.

"What?" he growled, demanding an answer. Eliana then poured out the content of her beaded bag onto the floor and kneeled to search through it.

"Lie down." She said simply and Caroline blinked a few times. "Lie down!" the witch repeated, this time more firmly and Caroline shrugged before she moved to the couch and lied down.

Eliana's silence was making Klaus uncomfortable. He needed to be in control and to be aware of his current situation but she was giving him zero.

The witch grabbed a crystal pendulum and a wonky glass bottle before she got back up and shooed everybody out except for the hybrid, muttering to herself in spanish, and for what Klaus understood she had called the others 'a bunch of snoopy blood suckers'.

He made his way to sit in the large chair next to the couch and the witch pulled up the vampire's shirt without considering to ask her or even let her know.

Klaus figured this witch was either extremely brave or foolish to treat his mate this way. It was evident she did not fear him and that would either mean she was to be feared herself or become an easy kill.

Eliana pulled the cork from the bottle with a pop and poured the purple sand onto Caroline's stomach before she let her pendulum dangle from her fingers over the spot.

"What are you doing?" Caroline asked both out of concern and curiosity. Eliana, who had just closed her eyes did not open them to look at her. She just coldly gave her a response.

"I'm just checking the fetus." She said in a monotone voice and began to mumble something in latin, which Caroline and Klaus figured was a spell of some kind.

Suddenly the purple sand began to move in synch with the swaying pendulum, as if it was a magnet to metallic dust. Lines and circles formed on her abdomen and Eliana's eyes shot open.

Instead of her dark deer eyes there was a pair of milky white orbs and her fingers tightened around the chain to her pendulum as it moved faster and faster, the purple sand drawing pattern after pattern and Caroline began to breathe faster.

"Stop." She said in a whisper while staring at the witch. She was getting afraid of what this meant and she had a bad feeling pricking at her every nerv ending. "Just stop it!"

Klaus leaped out of his chair and pushed the witch hard enough for her to wake up from the trance and fall back against the floor, her pendulum shattered into a million glittering pieces across the stone floor. Eliana panted and stared up at Klaus before her eyes fell upon the pattern on Caroline's stomach and the witch rose to her feet, slowly approaching the baby vampire. Her hand shakily hovered over Caroline's abdomen as she studied the signs.

"This can't be right." She said, shaking her head as her eyes met the concerned lunar-blue ones of the blonde.

"W-what?" Caroline asked. "What's wrong?"

The witch turned her attention towards Klaus who seemed more angry than worried. He was ready to rip her throat out if she gave him bad news.

"I was told this fetus was conceived around three weeks ago." She said and her eyes moved to rest on Caroline once again. The baby vampire nodded.

"Yeah, something like that." She told her while nodding. "Why, what's wrong?"

Eliana let out a sigh and noticed how the hybrid fisted his hands and cracked his knuckles.

"This fetus is at least twice as old. Something have pushed it's growth dramatically." She said and studied the confused expression on the baby vampire's face. "Were you ever effected of magic during this pregnancy?"

Caroline's eyes widened and she turned to look at Klaus, reaching out to point at him as if her frantically waving hand could drag the words out of him.

"Yes, I was cursed back in New Orleans. That witch, Katonda, she made me mortal for days."

Eliana nodded and let her fingers hover over the pattern again.

"That explains it." she said. Her voice was softer now. "Hybrid blood mixed with the blood of a human. A chemical reaction of some sort that really boosted the growth. Your child is physically stronger than a human fetus the same age but I must warn you – the fetus seem to share your heightened senses and it is anxious. If it's put through continuous stress it could end badly."

Caroline blinked and looked over at her mate. She met his eyes and it was obvious to her, behind his façade of anger he was genuinely worried. She licked her lips and turned her attention back to the witch.

"So… What do I have to do?" she asked. Caroline had just about gotten used to the thought of carrying a life inside her and she was not going to lose her child if she could prevent it.

The witch walked over to where she had emptied her bag and searched through the trinkets and bottles. What she brought back to Caroline was not something she had expected. It was a blue, raw gem tied to a leather strap.

"This will keep my baby safe?" she asked with doubt in her voice. Eliana shrugged.

"A Talisman never hurt anybody." She said simply before pointing at the pattern on Caroline's stomach. "This is the spirits warning me about this baby. It will put people in danger."

Caroline's heart sank.

"It's not human?" she was almost afraid to ask and it was hurting her more than she had expected it would. Eliana blinked a few times.

"Oh, no it's human." She said with a chuckle and Caroline let out a shaky breath of relief. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Klaus close his eyes and tugging at the corner of his lips. He was relieved too. Eliana continued. "However, this is not just any child. It might be human but it's also supernatural. In what way I do not know and until it's born no one will."

She looked as if she was thinking about something to add but instead she brushed the purple sand off Caroline's stomach and stood up.

"Just stay away from everything loud and straining." She glanced over at the hybrid and gave them a simple nod before she scrambled her belongings back into her beaded bag and headed out.

Caroline sat up slowly, her hand pressed against her still flat stomach and with a frown she stared out at the hallway where the witch had disappeared.

"Wow…" Caroline parted her lips but she wasn't sure what else to say. She felt strong arms wrap around her from behind before Klaus planted a soft kiss against her cheek.

"Now, will you allow me to treat you like a proper Queen?" he asked and trailed feathery kisses down her neck. She was very well aware of how this question really wasn't him giving her a choice but telling her what he was going to do.

Caroline huffed and rolled her eyes.

"She said stay away from loud noises and to take it easy, not to strap me to a bed while you feed and bathe me like some invalid."

A low growl escaped him.

"That does sound like a brilliant idea, however."

His stubble tickled her and she jerked away from him with a giggle.

"Not a chance, Nik." She said and turned her head to look at him before their lips met in a tender kiss. "That would include everything she just told me to stay away from."

His hands moved to rest on top of hers against her abdomen and he rested his chin against her shoulder.

"Wouldn't want to risk the little one." He said and a dimpled smile formed on his face that made her heart melt.

She looked down at the blue gem and stroke the rough surface with her thumb for a moment, wondering how she could keep her child safe and put it around her neck, letting the blue gem disappear beneath her shirt.

….

The hormones were definitely not on Caroline's side. Just to feel Klaus' scent was enough to make her want to rip his clothes off, so she decided to spend the day with other people.

For example Stefan Salvatore.

Caroline really wanted to get out of the house and Klaus had obviously been against the idea of her going there by herself and this time Elijah had agreed with him and tried to talk her out of it.

Stefan had then offered to join her for the walk and had promised to make sure they were back within the hour.

Elijah had been so close to telling them about Mikael and forced her to stay but he knew Stefan would protect her with his life and with a piercing stare at Stefan they made a silent deal that he would call him if anything happened.

Caroline felt just like a bubbly teen again. She put on her slightly tattered denim shorts, a sheer cream top with tiny flowers on, her sandals and sunglasses.

She skipped down the path leading from the house and looked over her shoulder with the brightest smile she'd had in a while.

"Come on then, lazy bug!" she called to Stefan who raised an eyebrow and looked over at Klaus with a questioning look in his green eyes.

"I hope you're aware of the sacrifices I make for you." He joked. Klaus smirked at him and held up his credit card between his fingers, reaching it over to the Salvatore.

"As long as it makes her happy I'll be satisfied to have you around." He said with a wink and poked Stefan in the chest with the card. "Whatever it takes… Lazy bug."

The hybrid chuckled as Stefan took the credit card from him and gave him a playful slap over the head, not even touching a hair before he made his way out in the bright sun and followed Caroline towards the city.

The first thing that happened was that Stefan somehow ended up on a mint green Vespa, a large white helmet pushed down over his head and the blonde baby vampire squealing with delight as she put her own helmet on and climbed onto a pink version of the same vehicle.

Before he knew t she had took off and he started up his moped to follow her.

It was a strange feeling of embarrassment and the most fun ever. Being a guy with a motorcycle, riding a Vespa was something he never ever thought he would do but apparently Caroline Forbes could make people do the strangest things to live a little.

They drove in the sunlight down by the glittering sea as they headed towards the city of Madrid. The houses to their left seemed to grow out of the white mountains somehow, and between houses were rows with clothing lines and fabrics of all colors blowing in the slight wind.

They finally made it and Caroline grabbed him by the hand before he even got the ugly helmet off.

"Where are we going?" he asked.

Caroline giggled and lead him through the doors of what seemed to be a mall. Caroline scanned the are and headed towards one of the shop that was bustling with pastel colors and stuffed animals.

A tune from a music box was playing through the speakers and Caroline made a sudden stop to look around.

"Here." She said and turned around to look at him with a small, yet nervous smile. "We're going here."

With raised eyebrows Stefan scanned the area and nodded.

"Baby shop." He said and his green eyes fell upon her. "Isn't it a little early for that, I mean…"

He didn't know how to finish the sentence but Caroline was quick to nod and held her hand up in defence.

"I know, I know." She began and her face turned into almost a pleading one. "I get why you'd think that but for me this is different. I mean I have a baby growing inside of me and there's no other option for me than for this baby to be born and doing so in a normal, healthy way."

She began to walk around and look through the products adoring the shelves, tracing her fingertips along the soft textures of the stuffed animals.

"Shouldn't you be taking Klaus here instead though?" Stefan asked and followed her, poking a teddy bear that had a large heart on its stomach and it made a squeaky noise.

Caroline kept walking and spoke without looking at him with a smile on her face.

"Nope. I want to get him something." She said and spun around to face him. "Well it's for the baby but I want to give it to Nik. You know, symbolically."

Stefan pressed his lips together and hummed and 'ok' and followed her around the store.

It should have been so obvious to him that he wished he had led her to that part of the store from the beginning.

A high pitched squeal echoed through the store and Stefan found Caroline jumping up and down, clutching a box to her chest with the brightest smile on her face.

"I seriously just found the best thing ever!" she said and pushed the box up so close to his face it almost touched his nose.

It was the tiniest pair of laced up shoes he had ever seen. They were white with two thing lines of dark purple and apple green at the bottom.

They were mind-blowingly cute. Not that Stefan would ever admit that.

His smile, however, made it clear to Caroline and she hurried over to the cashier. Stefan rolled his eyes and followed but his smile still remained.

…..

Bonnie had never packed so fast in her life. She shoved the sports-bag with whatever she might need once she made it to Madrid.

It was only the necessities: her passport, clean underwear, her Grimoires, toothbrush, deodorant, candles, etc…

Her call with Kol had changed everything. Somehow it was so clear now – Kol did care about Caroline, as he cared about his siblings.

As if they were friends.

Though Bonnie did not wish to believe it, it would seem that maybe, just maybe she had been wrong. Maybe they were all wrong. Maybe the Original family did care about Caroline because of the fact that Klaus was in love with her.

However… This did not change the fact that Caroline had been forced into all this by Elijah's compulsion.

ELIJAH of all people.

Bonnie growled at the thought and pressed her knee against the bag to close it just enough for her to zip it.

"And where the hell is Stefan when you need him?" Bonnie huffed. "Infiltrator my ass-"

She shot up as the house phone, which she had forgotten was there, began to ring. It was high and loud like an annoying car alarm.

Bonnie stared out into the hallway before she moved to follow the sound. She couldn't remember where it was. It hadn't been used in years.

She followed the loud beeping down the hall and into the other bedroom.

Grams' bedroom.

There on the nightstand sat an old wireless phone, blinking with an orange light as its beeping tune rang out.

Bonnie squinted her eyes as she tried to see whose number it was that showed on the tiny screen but she hadn't seen it before.

She reached out but just as she was about to grab it the ringing stopped and the room bathed in silence.

Bonnie let out the breath she hadn't even realized she'd been holding and clutched the shirt at her chest.

"Probably someone wanting to sell socks or something." She muttered.

She turned around and had just taken one step before she suddenly heard a phone ringing again. This time her cellphone.

She made it down the hall and into her room. The phone was lit in blue as it moved slightly across the sheets as it vibrated.

It was the same number who had just called the house phone.

Strange.

She reached for it and quickly accepted the call.

"Hello?" Bonnie said and frowned in concentration at the response she got.

There was a static noise coming from the other end of the phone, as if it was close to a radio or a TV and it drowned out the voice that was barely there. She couldn't make out the words.

"Who is this?" Bonnie asked firmly.

"The dark has poisoned the light…" a voice said in a moaning sort of whisper. "Kill it…. Kill it…"

The call ended and Bonnie just stared straight at the wall trying to understand what the voice had said, and who it belonged to.

She had no idea.
