Title: Better With You

Rating: T with potential for M (Will warn if it gets to that)

Disclaimer: I don't own anything in relation to Pretty Little Liars or in relation to any pop culture references that are made in this chapter.

Summary: After spending a large portion of their Summer apart, the girls are back together for their senior year at Rosewood High. Mona is in Radley, Garrett's been arrested, Maya is dead, and emotions still run high. Emily returns from Haiti in hopes to move past what she's been put through, and finds happiness in an unexpected place. A Spemily focused story with mentions of Ezria and Haleb. Storyline with "A" but not the main focus. The story follows the regular season one and two storyline, and begins after the opening scene of season three, however the night ends differently.

A/N – I honestly can't even begin to express how happy I am with the reviews you guys left for the last chapter. I appreciate all of you taking the time to leave them for me. It seriously lets me know where your heads are at, and I'm so, so thankful for the feedback. You guys rock! So thank you to shanti, tini, chxndelier, laka, gun, Stef, dahliadaria, Traisi, FannamedSam, and Breyanaxo for your reviews. This next chapter is a lot of plotline stuff, not a ton of Spemily interaction but necessary for the rest of the story.

Also, I keep forgetting to address this but a few chapters ago, one of you asked how I seem to know so much about things like hospital stuff, anxiety attacks, things about Mexico, etc. In regards to a lot of the hospital information I get, I do put quite a bit of research into it combined with personal experiences. As well, I have faced anxiety attacks before so that bit is kind of like a retelling of things I've gone through. And in regards to the Mexico stuff, I went to Mexico three times in the past year and a half, so I use a lot of that stuff for my writing as well. So overall, a lot of the information in this story is a combination of personal experiences as well as a ton of research. I chose to address this specifically because there is a bit of legal jargon in this chapter, but I'm not overly familiar with the judicial system in the US so if it seems a bit off, that would be why. Sorry folks!

But anyways, without further ado! I hope you guys like it, and if there are any grammatical/spelling mistakes I apologize for my lack of editing. Anyways, read on and please let me know what you think by leaving a review!

Chapter 35 – Snap Back To Reality

The flight was a lot less excruciating than the girls anticipated it to be – particularly for Spencer who was having an easier time being distracted from the fact that she was 35 thousand feet in the air. That was to be expected though because not only did things feel different than the last time, things were different. And that difference came from the girl whose arms spent the majority of their flight wrapped protectively around Spencer. She glanced over at Emily, and it made her heart flutter with happiness at the fact that for the first time in months, everything felt like they were finally in the right place. It was a wonder to Spencer how she was lucky enough to find the person that she wanted to spend the rest of her life, and how she was even more lucky that that person was her best friend. But she never questioned it; rather she was just thankful for what she had.

After five hours of travel, an hour and a half in customs, fifteen minutes in baggage claim, and another ten minutes waiting for Hanna to get out of the bathroom (even though she'd gone four times on the flight back), the girls were finally making their way through their gate. Each girl sported the same mixed feelings for being back in the Philadelphia airport: half excitement and happiness to finally be home, and half disappointment at the fact that they were no longer able to spend every day poolside with the sun radiating down on them. If there was one good thing that they'd returned to though, it was the fact that it was finally starting to look like spring, which meant at least they were returning to decently warm weather as they were about to enter the month of April.

Spencer led the girls toward their gate exit, anticipating that Pam and Ashley would be waiting on the other side of it as it had been agreed upon before they left that Emily and Hanna's moms were going to be the ones to pick them up. But when Spencer walked through the gate, she quickly scanned the crowd only to see that the two faces she'd expected to see weren't there. The girls looked at each other in confusion, unsure of where the two parents could be. They walked closer to the crowd of people that surrounded their gate, most likely people who were also waiting for their loved ones, and as they pushed through the crowd, Spencer spotted two different faces that she'd assumed were here to pick them up instead.

"Melissa? Jason?" Spencer spoke in a questioning tone as her eyes landed on the two siblings who were sat down, clearly zoned out in their own thoughts. The sound of the brunette's voice had surely snapped them out of it though, because as soon as they heard her voice, the two jumped slightly in their seats before standing up and greeting the five of them.

"Hey girls!" Melissa greeted in a tone that seemed awkwardly cheerful, while Jason stood beside her and waved in acknowledgement to the presence of his sisters and their friends. Something felt off between the two of them, but it was Melissa's strange greeting that had earned them a look of suspicion from Spencer.

"Not that I'm not happy to see you or anything, but where are Mrs. Fields and Ms. Marin? Aren't they supposed to be picking us up?" Alison questioned, and immediately she could see the two of them stiffen at the question. They shared a quick side-glance with one another that didn't go unnoticed, but before anyone could question it, Jason jumped in.

"They're busy right now, so they asked if we would pick you up instead," he explained with a tone of nonchalance, and under normal circumstances the action wouldn't have been questioned. But the Philadelphia airport was an hour away from Rosewood, and the fact that they were acting like it wasn't a big deal was what made their words seem disingenuous.

"Isn't it a bit out of your range though? Not that I'm complaining, we really do appreciate the gesture, but couldn't they have just asked my parents to pick us up?" Aria asked, as the reasoning still didn't make complete sense to her either.

"Yeah, we hope this wasn't a hassle for either of you," Hanna agreed genuinely.

"It was no trouble at all. Something came up last minute, and we were the only ones free to pick you up, so we volunteered to take you instead of you girls having to spend money on an hour long cab ride," Melissa explained, now a little more confident with what she was saying.

"Well we really appreciate it, seriously," Emily stated politely, all five of them nodding in agreement with her. "We should really get going though. I can't wait to lay down in my own bed," she continued and everyone laughed, but agreed with her words. "Spencer and I will go with Melissa, and the rest of you can go with Jason."

It had been another twenty minutes before they were in the car and on their way home to Rosewood, due to the fact that when the five girls said their goodbyes, they became oddly sentimental. But they couldn't help it; it would be the first time in seven days that they wouldn't all be together. So even though they knew they were going to see each other at school in just two short days, they were unable to leave one another without promising to talk and hopefully meet for coffee before then.

Spencer and Emily were now in the back of Melissa's car, cuddled into one another. Usually the older Hastings wouldn't have allowed it, but seeing the girls actually together for the first time in a month, she knew that she had to make an exception. Contrary to the two lovers' beliefs that they had kept their break up low-key from their families, Melissa knew differently, and could tell that something had gone down between the two of them. It was easy to figure out based on the lack of Emily's presence in the Hastings household, along with the change in Spencer's attitude and personality all together. But she could tell the dull, lifeless sister that she'd gotten used to the past month was gone, and the look Melissa saw in the girl's eyes as she glanced at the two of them through her rear view mirror let her know that her sister was back to normal.

It made her smile, seeing the happiness radiate around the two girls as they sat in the back, Spencer cuddled into Emily's arms. And the way they looked at one another said it all. It was love – pure, unaltered, genuine, and free flowing love. On anyone else, Melissa probably would have been jealous at the sight. To see it come from her sister however, not only brought her happiness, but also a bout of admiration and respect for what Spencer had achieved. Because it wasn't just that her sister was happy, it was that she had come to terms with who she was, didn't let anyone drag her down for it, and was confident in herself for it. And though she hadn't gotten the chance to watch and contribute to the brunette grow from her little sister into the mature young woman before her, Melissa couldn't have been happier with how she'd turned out.

"So girls," Melissa spoke, breaking the silence that had consumed the vehicle for the past 10 minutes. "How was your trip?"

Upon hearing the question, it was like an automatic response for the two girls to look at each other, having a silent conversation in regards to how to answer the question. They hadn't spoken to anybody in Rosewood about the situation that had happened in the club with Emily during their vacation, so none of them were aware of the low point of their trip. At the same time though, all four girls had an incredible vacation overall; they spent a week away from Rosewood reigniting the strong bond that kept them together, they met new people and formed new friendships, but most important was that Spencer and Emily had finally been able to sort out their issues and move on together. And in the end it was obvious that every positive thing that they'd gained completely outweighed the bad.

"I'd say it was pretty good, wouldn't you?" Spencer finally spoke, a grin coming across her face as she stared up at Emily. The swimmer bit her lip shyly, trying to stop the matching smile that she could feel coming on. It was no use though, as one look from the brunette made it next to impossible for her to not smile. Arms still around the girl, Emily tightened her hold and leaned forward, capturing Spencer's lips in her own as a way to show her silence agreement in what the girl had just said.

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Emily agreed, her voice soft as her lips were barely pulled away from Spencer's. The brunette grinned, barely grazing the smooth skin in front of her mouth. She lifted her hand to Emily's cheek and leaned into her lips once more, giving her another soft kiss. The two were lost in their own world at that point, and probably would have stayed there had it not been for the presence of Melissa who rolled her eyes at the two lovers, a smile still on her face because she still couldn't deny that they were adorable.

"So I take it you guys have finally kissed and made up? In the figurative, and clearly literal sense," Melissa joked, and her voice pulled the two girls back into reality. Spencer furrowed her eyebrows at the comment as she glanced up at the rear view mirror where she could see Melissa glancing back at them, a smirk on her face.

"What makes you think we were fighting?" Spencer questioned. She hadn't expected to hear her sister question her relationship, considering the fact that she hadn't spoken to anybody apart from her core group of friends about it. Sure, there had been speculation all over school about their alleged break up, but as far as she could recall, neither she nor Emily actually confirmed it.

"Please," Melissa scoffed with a hint of laughter in her voice. "Contrary to what you guys thought, we all knew. Literally everybody knew; our parents, Emily's parents, all the other girls' parents. I'm pretty sure even Nana knew."

"But, why would they send us on a vacation together, knowing we were fighting?" Emily questioned as she ran her fingers through Spencer's hair. Melissa let out a sigh and smiled once more as she redirected her attention to the road.

"They were hoping a vacation was what you girls needed to get back on track," Melissa admitted, shaking her head at the thought. "In case you've forgotten or haven't noticed, we're kind of all pulling for you guys to stay together."

Melissa smiled as her mind drifted back to the conversation she'd overheard between the parents regarding the vacation they were planning. It was right after the girls had broken up, when they hadn't spoken the entire week before Emily's rotator cuff surgery. Peter and Veronica had reached out to Pam, asking her if she had any idea why Spencer was holed up in her room, refusing to come out. After bouncing ideas back and forth, trying to figure out why their daughters were acting so out of character, they decided that instead of trying to figure out the problem, they would just offer a solution. That was where the idea for the trip had started to stem from.

"Well it's nice to know we have support. Right, babe?" Emily questioned, kissing Spencer on the top of the head. The brunette couldn't help but sigh happily, looking up at Emily once more and nodding while moving in for yet another kiss.

"Right," she stated in agreement, barely pulling away and nudging her nose against Emily's. It earned her a giggle from the swimmer who crinkled her nose in response, and Spencer shifted her body up slightly so that she could kiss the tip of Emily's nose too. One kiss led to several, and before she could stop herself, Spencer was peppering kisses all around the girl's face. Emily giggled happily, squirming in her spot but loving Spencer's playful nature. Finally, Spencer kissed Emily on the forehead before settling back into her position in the girl's arms. "So, what'd we miss while we were away?"

It was an innocent question, but all of a sudden the car went silent, and Spencer instantly felt the same energy that came off Melissa in the airport as she watched Melissa visibly stiffen. She sat up, breaking the hold that Emily had around her and leaned forward in her seat, trying to get her sister's attention. Melissa felt Spencer's presence almost directly beside her and let out a nervous cough.

"Um," Melissa began, but for some reason she couldn't find the words to come out. She nervously ran her fingers through her hair with one hand, while tapping the steering wheel with the other.

"Melissa," Spencer started hesitantly. "What's going on?"

"N-nothing," Melissa responded hesitantly. Spencer sighed, knowing that the girl wasn't telling the truth.

"You know I can tell you're lying, Melissa," Spencer responded and her sister let out a deep exhale, knowing that the girl was right. "Just be honest with me, please?"

Melissa tightened her grip on the steering wheel, focusing on the road ahead of her. Her surroundings had become more and more familiar as she drove down the streets of Rosewood, aware that she was nearly coming up onto the road to their house. She knew that she had to tell Spencer the truth, and soon. It was a conversation she'd been avoiding the entire car ride home, but she just didn't know how to approach the situation. As she turned the corner onto their street, she knew that it was too late now.

"Okay look, I need you two to do me a favour and not freak out," Melissa stated. Spencer was about to question what her sister was talking about, but her voice immediately faltered when she the commotion that was coming from outside of the vehicle pulled her attention away.

"What the hell?" Spencer questioned as both she and Emily looked out the car window to see dozens of TV reporters surrounding their house. There was barely any space for Melissa's car to get into the driveway as police cars and news vans had blocked off almost the area itself. Tons of people stood outside where there were police officers trying to control the scene.

"Melissa, what's going on?" Emily asked with concern in her voice as she watched the crowd try to swarm their vehicle. Her fingers started to twitch in nervousness as she could feel the claustrophobia build internally. She could feel her breathing become more and more panicked, and Spencer immediately picked up on it, taking the swimmer's hand in her own and gently kissing her knuckles.

"It's okay love. Relax and take a few deep breaths," Spencer whispered with reassurance. Emily closed her eyes and focused on the girl's words, slowly fixing her breathing. They sat silently, and Spencer breathed in unison with Emily until the girl was calm again. She leaned forward, lightly kissing Emily on the forehead before redirecting her attention to her sister who watched the two nervously. "Melissa, what the hell is the crowd for? Are mom and dad okay?"

"They're fine Spence, it's not like that. Look, I'll explain when we get inside. Don't worry about your luggage; we can grab all of your things later. Just go straight inside and don't say a word to anyone, okay?" Melissa instructed, waiting for the two girls to respond. They both looked at her apprehensively, but nodded in agreement. As she let out a deep sigh, Melissa turned off her car and unlocked the doors, the three girls stepping out all together and walking up the pathway towards the front door of the Hastings household.

"Miss Hastings! Miss Hastings! Can we get a statement?"

"Miss Hastings, Miss Fields, are you two willing to take the stand?!"

"Ladies, is it true that you made everything up?!"

"We just need one quote! Can we get a quote from any of you on the situation?!"

Tons of reporters were swarming them with questions, and the two lovers had no idea what they were in reference to. But instead of enticing the reporters by asking what they were talking about, the girls just followed closely behind Melissa, keeping their mouths shut like they'd agreed to. Thought the walk from the car to the door only lasted a few seconds, it felt like ages before they reached the entrance of the house, all three of them rushing inside to get away from the circus of people that were still out there. As soon as all three of them were safely inside, Spencer slammed the door behind her and leaned back against it, letting out a sigh of relief as she tightened her grip on Emily's hand.

"Okay seriously Melissa, what–" Spencer began but immediately froze in the doorway when she finally acknowledged the sight in front of her. "– The hell?"

Spencer's voice trailed off as she finally took notice of Aria, Alison and Hanna sitting in the den in front of her, all of their parents standing around the room as well. The air was tense between all of them and the room was completely silent. Her eyes focused on Alison in particular, who sat in between Aria and Hanna, their arms wrapped around her as though they were supporting her.

The blonde had tears in her eyes, and refused to look at anyone, her gaze staring off into the distance. Spencer's eyes scanned the room looking for answers, and the silence that overwhelmed the room let her know that she was only going to get answers from one person. Her gaze finally came to her mother who stood across the room, her arms crossed over her chest. It was a power stance that Spencer had been familiar with, and just by one glance she could tell her mother was frustrated. The two locked eyes and Spencer silently pleaded for answers to her unspoken questions. Letting out a deep sigh, Veronica stepped forward and gestured for Spencer and Emily to take a seat next to the three girls who were already sitting down.

"Look girls," Veronica began hesitantly, allowing Spencer and Emily to sit down before she continued further. She cautiously walked towards them, taking a seat across from the couch that the five girls were all now sat on. "We were hoping that it wouldn't come to this, but unfortunately it has." Veronica sighed once more, trying to find the words to easily break the news to them. "One of the reasons we sent you girls on vacation was because I was wrapping up the case with Wren and Madison. I had hoped that I could work out an arrangement with their lawyer so that we didn't have to take the case to trial. Unfortunately, that isn't the case."

"Wait what? Mom, what are you saying?" Spencer questioned. She understood what her mom was trying to say, but Spencer had to make sure her implications were correct.

"Madison and Wren are refusing to enter a plea bargain. They want to go to trial instead, which means that all of you girls will more likely than not have to take the stand. I've tried to get more information from the DA's office, but all I've gotten was that they're not going to plead guilty. And logically that means they're either probably going to try to plead innocent, or plead insanity. If they're successful, they'll be kept out of prison and put into a mental institution – most likely Radley," Veronica explained, clearly frustrated at the situation.

"That's ridiculous! And not to mention incredibly unsafe for all of us, considering how unsecure Radley is. Madison spent years getting in and out of there, and by now she's probably got the whole damn place mapped out!" Spencer snapped, angry because of the situation that she'd just been informed of. It pissed her off too, knowing that with the amount of manipulation Madison and Wren had in them, they probably stood a fighting chance in the courtroom.

"It isn't fair that we're going to have to go on the stand, and relive some of the worst years and experiences of our lives," Emily jumped in, her voice quivering in frustration. She knew what the trial would do to her alone. She knew that it would drudge up the worst memories of her life; being outed by 'A', being drugged and almost dying in the barn, the death of Maya, the near-death of Spencer, the night they found Melissa and Alison… And she knew that facing those memories could destroy all of the progress she'd made in therapy. Tears of irritation built in her eyes at the thought of everything she would have to face again. "We have to relive all of that, and for what? The off-chance that Madison and Wren will be put behind bars?"

"Em, I know it sucks but—" Hanna began, only to be cut off.

"Yeah you're right, it does suck. What kind of justice system do we have in Rosewood where someone who killed tons of innocent people, blackmailed and stalked us for years, and threatened our lives time and time again can be given the chance to just get away with it?!" Emily snapped, her voice now raised in anger. The girl could feel her hands trembling as her breathing got heavier. "I mean it's… It's," she stuttered, not even able to muster up words fit to describe the ridiculousness of it all.

"It's bullshit," Alison stated plainly, having finally spoken for the first time since she'd been informed of the news.

"Alison, language!" Her mother scolded, but Alison rolled her eyes, completely disregarding her.

"No. I'm sorry mom, but that's what it is. We all know that the majority of a jury's decision isn't made from the evidence presented in court. In a small town like Rosewood, whether you're guilty or innocent is decided by how you interact with people in your every day life. The decision is practically made before you enter a courtroom, and it's bullshit," Alison stated, her jaw clenched in anger. "Before I came back, I knew the reputation that my name held. I knew the amount of people that hated me, and would have loved to see me dead. And it's bullshit that Madison is going to get to play her little manipulation game once again, and probably get out of the charges because not only am I hated by almost everybody in Rosewood, I'm also going up against a person who looks exactly like one of the most loved members of this community. So tell me how that isn't bullshit?"

The entire room was quiet as the realization of Alison's words rang true. They were all aware that if Veronica didn't show up with a seemingly flawless plan of action, it was entirely possible that Madison and Wren could go almost scot-free. Veronica leaned forward, placing her hand on Alison's knee as a comforting gesture to the blonde who now had stray tears falling from her eyes.

"Hey," Veronica said softly, her head tilted as she tried to catch the girl's gaze. "Listen to me Ali. Things look a little meek right now, and I know that that's scary," she continued, her other hand nudging Alison in the chin in order to get her to look up so that she could look the blonde in the eyes. "Things seem scary and overwhelming right now, and I get it. But I want you to know that I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that those two will rot in a cell the rest of their lives for what they did to you."

And in that moment Alison let her guard down, pushing forward and collapsing into Veronica's arms as tears streamed down her face. The older woman instantly embraced the girl into her arms, her grip tightening around Alison's back as she looked around at the people who filled the room each of them holding a somber expression on their face. She gave them all sad smiles as she gently rubbed Alison's back for comfort. The blonde buried her face into Veronica's shoulder, sniffling several times, as she couldn't stop the tears. It was one of the most vulnerable moments anyone had ever witnessed when it came to Alison.

"D-do you p-p-promise?" Alison whispered out, her voice sounding broken and insecure. Veronica squeezed the girl in her arms even tighter as she nodded her head, knowing there wasn't much else she could do to comfort Alison.

"I promise."

A week had gone by since the news of the trial had surfaced, and since then all of the girls had found themselves to be increasingly tense. Spencer buried herself in schoolwork, partly because her AP courses were in full gear, but also because she needed the distraction when she wasn't with Emily. Alison tried to act as though she wasn't letting the trial effect her, but she'd become extremely short with almost everyone around her, and the majority of the time her snappy attitude only seemed to settle when she was texting Mila. The girls hardly saw Aria who found herself consumed with her painting and writing, while Hanna had been on a non-stop shopping spree. And Emily focused on the spring program she'd put together for the Rosewood swim team along with the physiotherapy sessions she'd started to recover her rotator cuff.

Emily and Hanna had found the time to have lunch together for the first time since they'd gotten back from Mexico, but it wasn't much of a lunch as Emily found herself barely able to stay awake. The two girls sat across from each other in the cafeteria, Hanna lightly picking at her food while Emily rested her arm on the table in front of her, leaning her head into her palm in order to hold herself up. Hanna glanced over at Emily, catching the girl as her head slipped off from her grip, slightly bobbing down before the swimmer shot back up, the sudden movement surprising her enough to wake her up. The blonde quirked her eyebrow in slight amusement; though Emily looked like she'd gotten no sleep, it was hard for Hanna to not find humour in watching the girl struggle to keep her head up.

"You alright there, champ?" Hanna asked, biting her lip to stop herself from laughing. Emily blinked slowly, shaking her head to try and wake herself up more. She let out a groan and rubbed her eyes, finally registering that the blonde had spoken to her.

"Huh? Yeah I'm fine. It's just these stupid nightmares have gotten worse since the trial started and I haven't been getting nearly enough sleep," Emily began to explain, only stopping to let out a yawn she couldn't contain. "It's even worse not having Spencer by my side to make it better."

"You didn't tell Spencer about it?" Hanna questioned, automatically assuming that that's what Emily was referring to. She sighed, giving the raven-haired girl a look of disapproval. "Em, you can't hide stuff like this from her otherwise things are just gonna end up like last time. You've got to be open and honest about it."

"No no, it's not that," Emily started, her eyebrows furrowed as she shook her head. "Spencer's school workload has been like triple what it usually is because of her AP classes," she continued, pausing to take a quick sip of her water. "And I know that she needs a full night's sleep to even function properly, so on nights where Spencer stays at my house or I stay at her house we have to sleep in separate beds. So she stays with me until I fall asleep and then she goes to her own bed."

"Aww," Hanna cooed, a smile coming across her face after hearing the girl's anecdote. "You guys are seriously so cute, it's ridiculous," the blonde stated. Emily blushed shyly, looking down at her food to hide her rosy cheeks. "So have you given anymore thought to the whole prom situation?"

Emily looked up at Hanna and was about to respond to the question, but the sight of Spencer approaching their table immediately stopped her words. Unable to control it, a smile spread across her face and Emily stood from her chair to greet the brunette with open arms. The polite action earned her a wide grin from Spencer who instantly fell into her arms, hugging her tightly. They stood in their embrace for a few moments before separating just enough for Emily to place a light kiss on the girl's lips. It took them a few seconds to break away from one another, but once they did Spencer kept her gaze on Emily, gently tracing circles against her back.

"Hey baby, how are you feeling today?" Spencer asked softly, knowing that the past few days had been strenuous on the swimmer.

"Go on a date with me?" Emily responded, completely bypassing the brunette's question. She could tell that Spencer had been caught off guard by her instantly quirked eyebrow, and the amused look that had followed.

"That was really random," Spencer replied, chuckling lightly.

"I know, but I've been dying to take you out on a date ever since we got back," Emily admitted shyly, sliding her hand down Spencer's arm and linking their hands together.

"Are you sure it's a good idea?" Spencer asked nervously as she fumbled with their intertwined fingers. "I mean, are you sure you don't want to wait until the trial is over?"

"Absolutely not," Emily responded, shaking her head no. She knew that Spencer was only asking for her sake, probably wanting to make sure that the swimmer wasn't overwhelming herself. "We don't know how long the trial is going to last, but I know I can't wait that much longer," she spoke with a smile on her face.

Her eyes quickly flickered over to Hanna who was still sat near them, watching the exchange that was occurring between the two girls. The blonde quirked an eyebrow at Emily for a second, but she quickly realized that the swimmer's silent communication was her way of informing the girl that the date was going to be prom related. Hanna smirked and looked away, trying to bite back the desire to ask Emily what she had planned right then and there.

"As long as you're okay with it, I would love to go out on a date with you Emily," Spencer happily agreed. "When did you have in mind?"

"This Saturday? I'll pick you up at 5?" Emily asked. Spencer was about to respond to the girl's question, but she found herself being interrupted by a beeping noise that came across the school intercom.

Spencer Hastings, could you please report to the office immediately? Once again that's Spencer Hastings, please report to the office immediately. Thank you.

The girls synchronously furrowed their eyebrows in confusion and curiosity of the announcement, unsure as to why the brunette was being called down. They knew there was no way she was in trouble; Spencer was a model student.

"That was weird," Hanna commented, earning a nod of agreement from Emily.

"Oh! It's probably for my iPod. I asked the office earlier if anyone had handed it in because I can't seem to find it," Spencer concluded. She refocused her attention to the girl in front of her. "I better go check right now so that I still have enough of the lunch hour to get into the library and do some last minute studying before my exam next period. See you after school?" She asked, receiving an eager nod from Emily. Spencer grinned and leaned forward, giving the girl a quick peck on the lips. "Okay, gotta go. Love you babe. Bye Em, bye Hanna."

The two girls waved goodbye to Spencer, and Emily's eyes followed Spencer, momentarily watching the girl walk away for a few seconds before redirecting her attention to Hanna. She sat back down at the table, sporting a grin on her face that immediately sparked Hanna's interest.

"Emily Fields, what are you up to this time?" Hanna questioned in a hushed tone so as to not have anyone overhear the conversation. The swimmer grinned back at her in response, shrugging coyly as she reached into her purse, which sat on the table. She fumbled around with her bag for a few seconds and then took her hand out, revealing Spencer's iPod in her grasp.

"Isn't it obvious, Han? I'm getting myself a date for prom," Emily stated with a smile on her face, leaning in as she began to unveil her master plan to her best friend. Though it had been a last minute arrangement, as she started to break it down, Emily was confident that she was about to put together one of the best "prom-posal" dates ever.

There you have it! Next up is going to be the date of course, so I hope you guys are looking forward to it. It's funny, I find the biggest struggle of writing this fic to be making sure the timeline makes sense since things like spring break, prom, and graduation occur at different times in the US versus in Canada. Heck, we don't even have prom where I'm from. So if my timing is totally off, I apologize! I tried to do as much research as I could in order to get it right. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this update, and if you have time please don't forget to leave me a review. Thanks for reading! Love you guys (:
