Chapter 38

House reluctantly agreed to go to Marcy's for Thanks Giving, he was invited to Tammy's as they had been seeing a fair bit of each other, but he decided that it wasn't worth the risk considering Abbie was going to be there.

They sat around Marcy's dining room table, there were soft lights a glow all around the room along with soft music playing in the background. Wilson and Marcy had been busy all day in the kitchen, Turkey and all the trimmings for the main course, and then Marcy had made a Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

House sat, staring into an almost empty glass of apple cider, whilst Marcy was dishing up dessert, her father and 2 brothers were also there and were chatting amongst themselves. He had been talking to one of her brothers (couldn't remember his name) he was into music and played drums in a local band, that only played in someone's garage.

"So, Dr Wilson are you going to make an honest woman of my daughter?" Said Mario

"Please call me James" He held Marcy's hand "There's nothing I would like more that to marry your daughter. But for right now we are staying as we are. We have enough to deal with without the added stress of a wedding"

House almost choked on his last sip of cider

"Good" Said Mario

"Next week I will have a scan to see how we are progressing and I will do everything in my power to be with her for as long as possible. But what I will say is that if all goes south, then she and my child will both be taken care of" He said looking at Marcy, who had tears in her eyes.

"That's good to know"

There was a little awkward silence for a few moments. "So, who wants coffee" Marcy said and the chatter started again.

House felt that he had done enough now for Wilson, he wasn't being thrown into the lions den, he could now make his escape. Not that it had been a bad day, but his social skills were diminishing at a rapid level. So he made his excuses to leave and went back to their house. He sat at his piano and lifted the lid and smiled at the keys. He closed his eyes and let his fingers to the talking. When he finished he sat for a little while trying to make some kind of sense of life - but it made no sense at all, he liked Tammy, she intrigued him, she was good fun and great company, but he also knew that he shouldn't be with her really, but by the same token, she knew what she was getting into to right!.. He got his cell phone out of his pocket and dialled Tammy.

"Hey what's Up?"

"Nothing, I was just thinking about you"

"You wanna come over, Abbie is in the main house with Kyle"

"K, see you in a few"

They sat together in her living area, "So, you had a good day?" Said Tammy

"Yeah, you?"

"Yeah it was nice to catch up with Abbie, it doesn't happen often enough now days "She chuckled, "oh and thank you"

"For what?"

"For helping me, I passed my first module, only 3 more to go. So you can come round more often" She said as seriously as she could.

"Actually there might be something I have that you can practice with"

"Oh what's that then, I already know how to use a condom, I practiced on a banana!"

"hahaha, they gave me some lotion to massage into my leg, twice a day and it does seem to be helping a little"

"See, not all new age crap is crap." She said smiling "So how's the rest of the regime going?"

"ok, The TENS is working better than I expected actually"

"Have to say, you don't seem to be limping as heavily"

"No, it is easier, for now at least"

"You don't think it will last?"

"it doesn't usually"

"Well maybe this time you found someone that can actually help "

"Maybe"

"And on the plus side, you have me, you're gonna be my guinea pig, I've got lots of practise to do."

House wiggled his eyebrows at her and made a leering noise "When can we start practising"

"Hmm I was thinking we can start now, if you want to that is" She said mischievously "Come on lets go to bed".

Tammy woke up the following morning to House snoring softly beside her, she relished that sound and was beginning to want this more and more. It had only happened a few times but she was beginning to get used to it.

She turned over so that she was facing him and ran her fingers gently down his cheek. He had a couple of days worth of stubble, which was unusual for him, but she liked it, it seemed to make his features slightly softer. "I'm going to make some breakfast, it'll be ready when you are" She whispered to him

"mmmk" was about all he managed to convey

15 minutes later the aroma of coffee and bacon aroused him from sleep, that and the need to pee. He rubbed his hands over his face and scratched a little at his stubble. ""mmmm, I need to shave, god that's becoming such a chore, it grows too damn quick" He sat up slowly to see if anything was hurting, surprisingly nothing major yet. He got hold of his leg and manoeuvred it so he sat on the edge of the bed Why did I do that if it doesn't hurt? Preventative measure! Actually he wasn't even sure if it could move without holding it . it was a habit or a need. Then the Bearded Lady's voice popped into his head "you try and protect it too much….just let it be" Yeah well maybe he did but today was not going to be the day to try something different. He reached for his jeans and caught sight of the TENS machine, not necessary right now, hook it up later, he got his came and limped to the kitchen.

"That smells good" He said leaning over to swipe a piece of bacon

"Eggs, bacon, sausage and has browns, although you are now one slice of bacon light"

"Am not, that's all mine where's yours?"

"Hahaha, have some coffee and wake yourself up"

At that point Tammy's cell rang

"Hey Sis, how'd you sleep?"

"Um, no I'm just having mine now and then I'll shower"

"Ok, see you then" She said putting the phone down and spoke in House's direction "That was Abbie, asking me out to Breakfast before we go see James, she will be over in about half an hour, do you want to meet her?"

"Nope, I don't think that's a good idea do you, I'm gonna go" He said getting up off the couch before he had even had breakfast.

"Eat your breakfast, when she says half an hour she means an hour, she is always late"

They did sit and eat their breakfast, although House's appetite had somewhat waned slightly, the last thing he wanted to do was bump into her sister. A while later they were saying goodbye at the side door, when Abbie came out of the main house and made her way to the Annexe. House was by now getting in his car and hadn't seem Abbie watching him. Abbie knocked on Tammy's door and let herself in.

"Hey Tams, are you ready?"

"Coming"

They left arm in arm to get in Abbie's car "So who was that who was leaving bright and early this morning?" She said curiously

"Just a friend" Tammy said shyly

"mmmm, a friend that either calls round really early or stays over, I thought you only had one bedroom!" She said teasing Tammy

"Stop it! Ok, he's more than a friend and his name is Gerry"

"I knew it! You have been talking about him for ages, it would have been nice to meet him Tams"

"Yeah well maybe one day, he's not the sociable type"

"He's the friend of Jame's isn't he?"

"yep"

Abbie said no more and drove them to Marcy's house within about 10 minutes. They got out the car together and went into the house.

"Dr Wilson I am Abbigail but please call me Abbie, it is finally good to me you" She said holding her hand out to shake his hand.

"You too Abbie, how was your Thanks Giving and please call me James"

"It was nice to catch up with Tammy, now that she is not in New York we don't see each other nearly enough."

Tammy excused herself and went with Marcy into the dining room, the less either one heard the better.

So James, no Gerry with you today?" She said prying as usual

"No, this has nothing to do with him"

"Fair enough, ok so I have some papers for you to sign, but before we do that I want to go over it all with you in case we have missed anything, that ok with you"

"That is fine by me, let's get down to business"
