The Death Of One

Elijah wandered through the streets, quietly following a drunken Niklaus. It had been a few hours since his and Eliza's fight, and Elijah believed it was time to finally get some answers from his brother - for his own and Eliza's sake. Elijah knew better than anybody that Klaus loved Eliza unconditionally, so why couldn't he love his own children too? Was it out of fear? Family issues? There were a thousand different possibilities.

" Have I not made it clear my desire to be alone?" Elijah wasn't shocked that Klaus knew he was there. In fact, he had been waiting for Klaus to finally give in and just speak to him. From the slight slur of Klaus' voice, Elijah could tell Klaus was in a drunken state of mind - this could either make things worse or better.

" Oh, you demand to be left alone at least once a decade. Your words have ceased to have impact," Elijah responded calmly, coming out of the shadows so that Klaus could see him properly. Klaus was holding yet another bottle of whiskey but, in seconds, he'd smashed it against a wall.

" Are you too going to keep harping on about these babies!?" Klaus snapped angrily as his face contorted with drunken anger. " The children will never be born! Otherwise she'll be dead." Elijah frowned slightly. Could it be that the only reason Klaus claimed to not care about his own children is because he disbelieved in himself to manage to get the cure for Eliza?

" The lack of faith you place in yourself is surprising. Even when people cower with fear at the mere sound of your name, you still choose to put your belief in our father's petty words..." Elijah knew he had hit the mark as Klaus hesitated, his eyebrows furrowing.

" Haven't you heard, Elijah? I'm becoming as great a father as Mikael himself was!" Klaus shouted and Elijah frowned. During Klaus and Eliza's fight, he had been out speaking to the witches and had returned home to find Klaus in a fit of rage, and Eliza broken again.

" And I am almost positive that you too said things to her that you did not fully mean. After all, she now believes that she doesn't matter to you anymore and I highly doubt she is correct." Klaus didn't seemed shocked by what Elijah had revealed, meaning that he had probably been listening the whole time that Elijah and Eliza spoke.

" What does it matter? It's only a matter of time before she dies in the hands of myself yet again. And I highly doubt nature will find a way of saving her again." Klaus turned and began to storm away, but Elijah soon raced over to him and pinned him against a wall. The anger coursing through Elijah was now radiating from him.

" You will not walk away from this! You will not walk away from her!" Elijah shouted in Klaus' face angrily. " Not again!"

" Let. Me. Go," Klaus growled furiously. It hurt him to hear his own thoughts spoken by Elijah - it convinced him more that walking away was the wrong thing to do.

" I WILL NOT!" It was rare that Elijah was ever this angry, but Klaus knew he had hit a nerve. For many reasons, it angered Klaus that Elijah cared so much. Suddenly, Elijah threw Klaus across the street and into a wall, causing Klaus to drop to the floor. Before Klaus could recover himself, Elijah had picked him up and managed to lock him in a headlock.

" Don't make me say it again." Klaus gripped onto Elijah's arm and struggled in his grasp.

" I will not let go. I will never let go. Not of you. Not of her." Elijah regretted speaking about Eliza as he flew into an iron fence, having been thrown by Klaus. As well as calming himself down, Elijah snapped off one of the iron poles and headed towards Klaus again. " Even if I have to spend an eternity saving you from your own stubborn, petulant, vile self..."

Klaus was now shaking with anger. However, he attempted to calm himself down as, he knew, that in a drunken state of mind he would do something stupid and regrettable. This attempt was broken off as Elijah hit him with the iron pole.

" Even if I have to look after and care for her while you spiral out of control..." Like before, the mention of Eliza angered Klaus more and he managed to grab the pole before it hit him. Furiously, Klaus then hit Elijah with it causing Elijah to fall to the floor, touching his lip that was now bleeding.

" You're beyond pathetic Elijah," Klaus growled. " You try and deceive me into believing that you care for her as a sister, rather than revealing the truth." Klaus let out a chuckle, letting the iron pole fall to the floor with a clatter. " You'd steal her from me the minute she starts to loathe me like everyone else! I can already see it happening!"

" This belief that I am here to 'steal' her away from you is piteous!"

" Then tell me you do not love her, Elijah!" Klaus' eyes lit up with fire and rage. It took most of his efforts not to pick up pole and beat Elijah with it again. However, he couldn't help but feel the dagger in the pocket of his jacket, pressing against his chest. " Tell me!"

Shock formed on Elijah's face as he looked up at his brother, slightly fearful." I... I can't tell you that Niklaus... Otherwise I'd be lying. I made a mistake that will not happen again, have mercy on your own brother at least. Don't I deserve happiness after all these years?" Elijah asked, seeing that this was not going to end well for him. " We're family; always and forever. I would never purposefully do anything to jeopardize that."

Klaus chuckled sarcastically, hiding his hurt and jealousy at the fact that he was no longer the only man that loved Eliza. " " My dear sweet brother. Always claiming to be so noble..." Klaus smirked. " there's something that I've come to learn... Love and Family are weakness in war. I need to win this on my own, brother. I need to win her back on my own, without your interference." That's when Klaus plunged the dagger into Elijah's heart. " She's mine. And she always will be."

The shock and hurt that formed on Elijah's face sent a wave of remorse through Klaus, but he quickly hid it. He knew in the morning, when he was no longer under the influence of alcohol and had an upset Eliza shouting at him, that he would regret this decision that had come to mind. Right now, however, his caring had dropped down to zero.

" Finally, Eliza, someone I want to see in this god damn town." Eliza grinned broadly, for the first time since yesterday, at the sight of Rebekah at the front door. " I've been trying to call Elijah for hours but he won't pick up! If this is some part of his plan... then tell him that it worked!"

" It's good to see you too, Rebekah." Eliza wrapped Rebekah in a hug, laughing at her anger towards Elijah. It had been too long since Eliza had last seen Rebekah and she'd missed having a girl around that she knew well - she missed having a best friend who understood girl problems.

" Get my bags for me, will you? I swear if I spend anymore time in that godforsaken car, I'll break it." Rebekah huffed in annoyance, pulling away from the hug.

" Hey, I'm the human now! Lifting heavy bags is much easier for you than me!" Eliza said.

" Oh, quit complaining. Most girls have the unfortunate tendency of being whiny, little twits. Don't turn into one of them." Eliza laughed at this which caused Rebekah to smile too.

" I've missed having a girl around that isn't as annoying as the precious Elena and as bratty as Caroline. And I'm sure by now that you're sick of the good brother," Rebekah said, walking further into the house and letting the door slam shut behind her. Rebekah had always known how to make an entrance.

" I've definitely missed having another girl around here, especially after the next brother turned up." Eliza tried to make light of having Klaus back again, but the ache in her chest only heightened as she thought of him.

" I hope that Elijah has been keeping him in line for you." Rebekah seemed sympathetic about the situation and Eliza knew she had been angry with Klaus about it. None of this showed though as Rebekah spoke and, luckily, Eliza understood why.

" I'm glad you decided to come. Unsurprisingly, you've missed a lot in a mere matter of days." Instinctively, Eliza's hand fell down to touch her stomach as she said this. Even though she was still getting use to the thought of having children and being pregnant, already her love had grown for them both. They were here second chance at motherhood.

" Well, Elijah has kept quiet about what's happened in an attempt to lure me to come. My curiosity is getting the better of me. So spill," Rebekah ordered, smiling.

" Um... well, a few days ago... A bunch of crazy witches found out that I'm pregnant." Eliza almost laughed at the amount of shock that had now spread across Rebekah's expression. It had to be the first time Eliza had ever managed to silence an Original other than Klaus. Usually, it was an impossible job; especially with Kol and Rebekah.

" That's bloody impossible..." Rebekah whispered in shock, staring at Eliza's stomach. It was obvious that Rebekah was now listening to the two heartbeats, just like Klaus and Elijah had.

" I thought so too... until they explained it to me. Then I found out that these crazy witches had already injected me with this witchy potion that will kill me after giving birth. In order to get the cure for it, Klaus has to kill Marcel and take over this so called 'kingdom'," Rebekah didn't seem as shocked by this as she was about Eliza been pregnant.

" My brother would never kill Marcel, unless it was to save you." Rebekah's voice sounded much softer and slight worried as she spoke now. " The witches obviously have no idea who they're up against. Niklaus will stop at nothing to get this cure for you... He would kill them before killing Marcel."

" What is the deal with Klaus and Marcel? I know they knew each other a long time ago... He's just never told me much about his past." Eliza frowned as she fully realised this - Klaus had lived for a thousand years and Eliza only knew things about him from when he was human and the century she'd known him.

" Marcel is like a son to Klaus." Rebekah was very vague with her answer and she seemed lost in other thoughts.

" A son?" A frown formed on Eliza's expression. " So he can love another as if they were his own but not his actual own..." Eliza mumbled under her breath, forgetting that Rebekah could still hear her.

" I thought you would have learnt by now that my brother doesn't love very easily." Eliza no longer like the way the conversation had turned, so she was almost glad that Klaus interrupted them by coming through the front door.

" Ah, little sister. I should have known. I'm guessing that the six dead vampires are your doing and not Eliza's?" Klaus seemed in an almost merry mood, which was slightly strange. Klaus and Elijah had both been missing all night and Eliza had guessed that they had been doing things that concerned Marcel and the witches. Though, Eliza had thought that Elijah would be back by now as he had claimed he would speak to Klaus... Why wasn't he answering Rebekah's calls?

" They were very rude." Rebekah stated. " Trying to victimize a poor, innocent girl just trying to find her way to the Quarter. So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends." Rebekah smirked and Klaus chuckled at his sister's teasing.

" I do have friends. I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you."

"I don't care about Marcel or his rules. Elijah isn't answering my calls, where is he?" Rebekah demanded.

" Last time I saw him, he was going to speak with Klaus." Eliza eyed Klaus suspiciously, ignoring the hurt feeling she got every time she looked at him. He was a continuous reminder that he hated his own children.

" Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs. Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I."

Rebekah stalked off, muttering ' I remember' under her breath. Eliza stayed where she stood, crossing her arms over her chest and staring at Klaus, waiting for him to acknowledge her. He'd been avoiding her eyes ever since he'd returned.

" Let me guess, you're worried about my dear brother too?" Klaus' voice was low and controlled as he looked up to meet her eyes.

" I am. In fact, I'm worried that you've done something to him already. It wouldn't be the first time." Klaus gritted his teeth in anger as she said this.

" Well, you claim I'm just like my dear father Mikael after all. What do you expect?" Though Klaus seemed angry by this, it didn't touch his eyes.

" I expect you to try not to be. I hate seeing you like this." Eliza spoke more quietly as she spoke the last part. It had been in her best efforts to avoid saying something that showed anything other than anger towards Klaus. However, she just couldn't help herself.

" Then you'll just have to go on hating me for a little while longer," Klaus muttered, looking away and stormed towards the door.

" Where are you going?" Eliza frowned as she realised she sounded worried while saying this.

" It seems the night isn't over yet. I'm off for another drink with Marcel," Klaus didn't turn as he spoke and, instead, his hand paused on the door handle.

" Right. So one minute you're killing his friends and the next minute your sharing drinks?"

This time, Klaus turned with an angry expression on his face. " If you haven't already noticed, sweetheart, I'm doing everything I can to protect you. This is my way of finding out his darkest secrets. I'm doing a hell of a lot better at protecting you than my brother did," Klaus growled before storming out of the house without a backwards glance.

" Well he seems incredibly pissed off today," Rebekah stated from the middle of the stairs, watching as the door slammed.

" It's the burden of having to protect me," Eliza mumbled with a frown. With a scoff, Rebekah rolled her eyes and joined Eliza on the ground floor.

" See, this is what happens when you get involved with my evil brother." Rebekah spoke to Eliza as if she was saying ' I told you so' to a little child. " So if you want to mope around all day, then fine. Meanwhile, I'm going to find out what my evil brother did to my good one. Are you going to help or not?"

" I owe Elijah, of course I'm going to help. Whatever Klaus has done to him is obviously my fault." Eliza let out an annoyed huff and followed Rebekah as she headed from the kitchen, down into the basement. After Rebekah turned the lights on, it wasn't long before Eliza realised Rebekah's new suspicion.

" You think Klaus has dagered Elijah again... don't you?" Eliza whispered, feeling horror wave over her as she realised how likely this was. Like she herself had said to Klaus before, it wouldn't be the first time.

" My dear brother has always kept these coffins on standby, for whenever he wants to get his jollies from keeping us in a box for as long as he likes. Elijah's is missing, meaning that he's stashed him somewhere else." Rebekah seemed extremely annoyed but this didn't compare to the anger that was now building within Eliza.

" I should have realised sooner that something was wrong... This is all my fault," Eliza muttered to herself, clenching her hands into fists.

" I'd tell you otherwise, but I'd be lying. Do you have any idea where Nik may be keeping him?" Rebekah asked.

" Unfortunately, no. Though I do know a way to get him to tell me. While I go find him, you can speak to the crazy witches, they'll probably know something about this," Eliza said, her voice becoming very tight and controlled. Elijah had been nothing but kind and caring to her for the past month and now he was been punished for it. It was time for Eliza to go and save Elijah - something she'd never done before. She knew exactly how she was going to do it; using Klaus' own threats against him. Another thing she had never done before... Maybe she had changed after all. Maybe all of this had made her stronger.

The journey hadn't taken long, but it had given Eliza enough time for the rage to build up within her. Over the past few months, Eliza had found herself becoming more and more fearless. She believed the reason for this is because she'd finally realised that she'd been wasting her time worrying for a lot of years. But what was the point in fearing anything when she could die at any moment? She'd died twice already. She'd come closer to death more times than she wished to count. Death was no longer one of her fears, even though she didn't want it to happen. There was a fine line between being reckless and fearless. Right now, she knew exactly where the boundaries where, and exactly where she couldn't cross. Luckily, this situation was within the fearless.

Hiding behind a wall, Eliza watched as Klaus and Marcel strolled casually up to a shiny black car, chatting animatedly. Two of Marcel's closest followers, who Eliza knew to be Thierry and Diego, were already at the car, looking around as if standing guard. Eliza had to hold back at laugh at how easy this was already seeming to be.

" Oh my god," She made her voice sound completely different from her own as she spoke this. The plan was, to make Thierry or Diego believe that a human was watching them while hidden away. This way, they would come to either attack, feed from or compel the human away. Then, Eliza could restrain one of them and use them against Marcel and Klaus. Now you're the one turning into Klaus... Eliza pushed that thought away and convinced herself that this wasn't true. After all, she wasn't going to hurt anybody.

" Hello there." Thierry had been quick to find her and he soon looked deep into her eyes, as if about to compel her. Before he could, Eliza used the strength from the magical ring to shove Thierry against the wall and grip him into a headlock. It surprised her how easy it was to fight him when he hadn't been expecting it. The groans from Thierry instantly alerted Klaus and Marcel, who turned to see Eliza approaching them with Thierry in her grasp. Klaus' eyes widened in shock.

" Where's Elijah?" Eliza asked in a low tone, glaring at Marcel. She had attempted to glare at Klaus, but her eyes had only softened when she met his.

" Is that your girl, Klaus?" Marcel was already laughing at her, hiding his worry for Thierry.

" Eliza, what are you doing here?" Klaus asked, sounding angry and bewildered.

" I want to know where Elijah is. You've daggered him again," Eliza stated, twisting Thierry's arm further behind his back so he cried out in pain." I know you wouldn't tell me where he is if I asked, so I thought a more melodramatic approach would work,"

" I'd appreciate it if you let my guy go as I, myself, would rather not be involved in you two love birds arguments," Marcel said rather politely, smiling. Eliza only glared at him in response.

" Just tell me where Elijah is, and I'll let you two get back to whatever you were doing before."

" Eliza, what are you doing?" Klaus growled, frowning at her.

" I'm getting answers from you since you're so unwilling to give them. Now tell me where he is, or I'm going to kill one of Marcel's closest followers,"

" Leave before you get hurt," Klaus ordered smoothly, his eyes filling with worry as he glanced warily at Marcel.

" Tell me where Elijah is and I'll leave. I'm guessing you know too, Marcel?" Eliza questioned, turning her attention to Marcel who was now approaching her. Protectively, Klaus followed behind Marcel, just in case, but made no move to stop him.

" You should do as your boyfriend says, Eliza. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But I have rules here and nobody kills my guys," Marcel's voice was becoming seemingly less and less polite. Now becoming extremely annoyed by the lack of answers, Eliza quickly snapped Thierry's neck and let him fall to the ground.

" He's not my boyfriend. Now all I have to do, is rip his heart from his chest. So either you tell me where Elijah is, or you loose you're best friend," Eliza didn't know how she could tell that Marcel and Thierry were best friends, but she could. Now she had proof that it was true because of Marcel's reactions. In a matter of seconds, she felt a grip on her arms. Eliza knew exactly who it was, and quickly turned to knee him in the stomach and twist his arm behind his back. She was about to snap his neck again before Marcel grabbed her from behind, doing the same to her as she did to his followers. It took all of her strength to hold back a cry of pain as her arm twisted further and further backwards.

" There should have been an easier way to do this, but you leave me no choice. Your precious Elijah is safely locked away with me and, like Klaus, I'm unwilling to give away his location. I'll hand him back over when I want to," Marcel growled lowly in her ear. Before he could do any further damage, however, Marcel was thrown away from her by Klaus.

" Your friends should awaken soon, save this surprise for me later while I take her home. She won't be bothering you again," Klaus spoke to Marcel in a casual tone, one that annoyed Eliza a lot. But before she could protest, Klaus was running with her in his arms. As soon as they had arrived back at their new home, Klaus placed Eliza back down on the floor and glared at her.

" Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Klaus growled in anger, his hands clenching into fists as if stopping himself from lashing out.

" No. I was trying to find Elijah. Now I know what a sick, twisted monster you are for handing your own brother over to the enemy!" Eliza shouted. " I don't even know who you are anymore!"

" And you think I know who you are, love? A month ago you would have never pulled a stunt like that! You're turning into me. My heartless ways are finally rubbing off on you," Klaus knew what he'd said would hit a nerve, but it still hurt him when Eliza stormed away angrily, without a backwards glance. He hated hurting her like this, but right now it was the only way he knew how to deal with the new Eliza. Though he still felt proud of what she had just done. Even though he was still jealous of the fact that she was so set on finding Elijah, that she would actually kill someone - something Klaus knew very well that she hated to do.

So finally I got chance to update and I hope you like this chapter! There was a lot of tension in this chapter; Klaus and Elijah have fallen out again, Eliza is still angry with Klaus, Rebekah is back and (hopefully) is as awesome as ever! Please do tell me what you think about the stunt that Eliza just pulled to find Elijah... Yes, this is the new her and I hope I explained enough why she is like this in the chapter. If not, then please feel free to ask any questions.

As always, a massive thanks for all the support and stay tuned for the next update!
