Masquerade

Jinx awoke when her alarm went off at three-thirty. She stretched and then went to shower. She went in and bathed herself like no tomorrow. When she finished she put on her underwear that was going to wear tonight and then put some leggings and a regular zip-up hoodie on. By the time she left it was already four. She noticed Nolan still there and put a box at the table for him. She left and went to the hair salon. They did her hair and then her make-up. By the time she was finished it was already five forty-five. She went home careful not to mess up her hair or make up. She got home at six fifteen and she put lotion on her body and then the perfume. She saw that it was six thirty when she finished so she put on her jewelery and then her dress and heals. She got a purse together and looked at Snow for approval. Snow barked and she smiled. The doorbell rang so she went to go open it. When she did she was surprised, Nolan cleaned up amazingly well. The dress she wore had a sweetheart cut corset top and the rest flowed out just enough to sway when she moved. There were two very thin cuts in the dress, one on either side so that she could move freely and when she walks in long strides a piece of her thigh would show ever so lightly. The dress color was a nice Harlequin, on top of the base fabric was what looked to be black satin sheer with embroidery that showed off the color. The satin only went from her left breast across her torso and around the body ending at her right ankle. Her hair was long and curled for the occasion with a few jewels in her hair to add some sparkle. She had on black satin elbow gloves, and her make up was done so elegantly you could hardly tell there was any make-up at all. She had on a silver necklace with the peridot stone in the center resting beautifully, a necklace to match as well as a ring . Her earrings were plain earrings with a small diamond in them. Nolan was speechless. "Wow, you look beautiful," he says handing her a rose. Jinx smiled and took in what he was wearing. It was a nice tux black like the satin and the vest she picked out for him, a darker shade of Harlequin with a tie that was black with a pinstripe of true Harlequin. They left and Nolan drove Jinx's car since he only had a motorcycle. They reached the hotel and went into the ballroom. It was a masquerade type theme and they received masks that would suit them. Jinx helped Nolan put his on and he did the same. She opted to wear it instead of hold it like most other females were. Nolan took her to meet his boss and a few colleagues he worked with. Jinx decided to see if anyone had auras. To her surprise there were two people that did. A female and a male. It didn't seem like they were there together, if anything they were trying to stay as far apart as they could. "Do you see them?" Jinx asks her cousin in a whisper. Nolan looked around and then nodded. "Did you know?" she asks. "No, but I had a feeling they just never liked each other. Now I see why, their auras clash at any moment they are near each other," Nolan says. A song came on and Nolan asked Jinx to dance. Of course she accepted. They danced and when the song ended went back to wear they were. Jinx was fascinated to hear about his work life so she stayed quiet most of the time. Finally the girl with the loud aura came and interrupted the conversation. "Nolan, my goodness you look amazing who would have thought that you would look so handsome in a tux. Anyways I came to see if you would like to dance with me, after-all you did come alone," she says putting a hand on Nolan. Jinx saw right away that she was planning something so she jumped in. "Dear when do you think the food would be served, we haven't ate since lunch time," Jinx says looping her arm into his. Nolan looked at her and smirked. "It should be soon gorgeous. ... Oh Cherry, this is my date, Jinx, I forgot to introduce you two," Nolan says with a smile. Cherry looked at Jinx with glaring eyes. "I didn't know you came with someone. Well it is nice to meet you Jinx," Cherry says, her aura flared and Jinx smirked. "It is nice to meet you to," Jinx says. Cherry left and Jinx chuckled. The guys around them started to laugh and Jinx saw her aura flare again. "Cherry is not going to be happy," one guys says. "She's been trying to get her hands on your guy since day one," another says. "Well, she just won't due for my cousin," Jinx says with a smile. That's when they laughed the hardest. Dinner arrived and they ate there with them. Jinx got along good with them. After the dinner Nolan saw someone he wanted to introduce to Jinx. He took her away and they crossed the room. "I take it you came alone?" Nolan asks to the guy who's back was turned. The guy turned and smiled. "Nolan! Man you clean up good," the guy says. Jinx smiled and felt something wrong. She looked around and saw it, Cherry was doing something odd. Her aura was growing darker. The lights flickered and Jinx looked at her directly. Nolan looked at Jinx when she didn't answer him. He looked and saw her looking at someone. He looked and saw Cherry except her aura was darker. It seemed malicious. He prayed that no one would be effected by whatever she was planning, it was then that Jinx snapped out of the trance. She looked at Nolan and smiled a thank you. "What happened?" he asked. "She was trying to get into my head, her magic isn't strong enough to get anywhere near me but it was trying to get to you. I was hiding you from her," Jinx says. "Come, this is the guy I wanted you to meet. This is Darrien," Nolan says. Jinx looked and smiled. Darrien was cute just a bit taller than her and that's cause she was wearing heals. Black hair, grey eyes. He was cute. "It's nice to meet you," Jinx says. Darrien smiled at her and kissed her hand. "Nolan your girlfriend is gorgeous. You are a lucky man," Darrien says. Jinx smiled and looked away. "Yes well Jinx is my cousin, but she is gorgeous," Nolan says. "You sneaky fox," Darrien says laughing. Cherry came over with a smile and draped her hand over Darrien. "Nolan I haven't seen you dance all night," Cherry says. "You are right, Jinx let's go dance, we want to make the best of this ball," Nolan says taking Jinx and going to the dance floor. "She is up to something," Nolan says. "Maybe but you will not get involved Nolan. We don't know what she is capable of, not only that you are new to this. You have no way of defending yourself. We still have no idea if your gift can apply to you," Jinx says so only he can hear. Nolan nodded and they dance for another song. Jinx kissed his cheek letting a protective spell cover him and they switched partners it didn't surprise Nolan that he was with Cherry next. He looked at Jinx who simply winked at him. He looked at his hands and saw the red trying to invade his own aura. He looked to see who Jinx was with and was glad to see it was Darrien. "She dragged you in here?" Jinx asks looking at her new dance partner. "Something like that yea. She's been hell bent to get your cousin," Darrien says. "That's to bad," Jinx says. "Oh?" Darrien asks. "He's a smart man, she won't get anywhere with him," Jinx says. Darrien chuckled and handed her back to Nolan. "What time did you want to leave here?" Nolan asks as they got a drink. "This is your party dear. What ever time is fine," Jinx says. They looked at the clock as were surprised that it was already close to midnight. It seemed like such a short time. They looked at each other and laughed. They were so ready to go home. They said goodbye to different people, many of Nolan's friends wanted him to bring Jinx around again. They got to the door and were going to give the masks back. "Complimentary as a remembrance of the night," the host says. They left and arrived back at Jinx's place. Snow greeted them and Jinx took off her mask and heels. "You can stay here tonight if you want," Jinx says looking back at her cousin. "Yea I think I might. It's late and I'm tired," Nolan says taking his own shoes off. Jinx took her dress off and put on a silk robe as she took her make-up off and took her jewelery off. She took her hair down and combed it out so that she could wash it without the hassle of tangled hair. "There should be some clothes that you could wear in the closet," Jinx says getting up. Nolan nodded and went to the guest bathroom. Jinx showered quickly and put on silk pajama pants and a matching spaghetti strap shirt. She sat back down at her vanity and combed her hair once more. Nolan came in and smiled. He just took a pair of pants. Jinx saw him in the mirror and smiled back. She finished and went to her bed Nolan came in as well and Snow lied at their feet. Jinx fell asleep quickly and Nolan followed soon after. When Jinx awoke she was lying on Nolan's chest with his arms around her. She smiled and faded away when she came back she was in the kitchen. She made tea and some breakfast. Nolan woke up and hugged his cousin. "Morning," Jinx says putting the food on two separate plates and feeding Snow. Nolan helped clean up and got dressed again. He was going to leave when Jinx stopped him. "Here," she says giving him a velvet box. "What is this?" Nolan asks taking it. He opened it and saw a nice watch there. "It has a charm to protect you from Cherry and anyone else who might try anything. Also if you push that button it would allow you to see without auras until you push it again," Jinx explains putting it on him. Nolan smiled and thanked her. He left and she spend her day being lazy and getting ready for work tomorrow. A lot was going to change and who knew what was going to happen.
