Chapter 37
Chase walked into the kitchen to see a pack of Dalmatians chowing down their food and hear the news in the background coming from a radio on the counter top. "Oh, hi Chase," President yelled out with food all stuck in between his teeth. "How did'ya sleep? You looked like you were having a terrible nightmare or something, I didn't wanna wake you."
"I slept alright... and yeah, something sorta like that; I had to though, so you could come and eat breakfast."
President raised an eyebrow, "Did you really?"
"Yes..." Chase sighed.
"Real-" President was quickly interrupted by a nip in a little his butt.
"If he said he slept alright, then he did. " Judge exclaimed. President apologized quickly and continue to gorge himself in the food. Chase walked over to his bowl right, next to Judge, and began to eat. "I hope you didn't sleep well at all," She said loud enough so only he could hear. He paused his chewing. "I fucking hope you can't sleep at all for what you did to Marshall. And God forbid anything happens to him wherever the hell he is." Chase swallowed his food hard.
"I'm going to go for a walk. I need some fresh air." He got away from his dish and started to head for the door. Then he heard a snarl behind his back.
"Yeah, you go do that," Judge angrily yelled, "You better pray to God that you found him out there too." The room froze in time, except for the little radio running in the background. And Chase to froze in his tracks like the icy roads the radio was talking about outside, he could feel a wave of sweltering anger building inside of him. He was trying his hardest to keep calm, but he couldn't help but growl between his teeth. He slowly turned towards Judge, "What? Are you gonna attack me now?" She scoffed under her breath. She started to growl and snarl back him, anger filling her eyes. He growled and snarled even louder. He dug his nails into the tile of the kitchen floor and bore his teeth. "Do it!" Judge challenged. She was angry; she was fuming with rage. "Do to me, what you did to Marshall! Come on!" The room was oddly quiet for a commotion this loud, especially with two dogs damn near threatening to kill each other, or at least that's what Chase thought. Then it hit him. As he was staring into Judge's eyes, he understood them a little better.
Chase thought about an old express: a hit dog will holler. And that's what Judge is, that's what they all were. All of Marshall's family was hurting. And they were hurting bad, especially Judge. She was his older sister. It was her duty as his older sister, watch after and take of him, to make sure he was okay. But now she knows he's hurt and he's gone, and there wasn't anything they could do about it. And somewhere along that line, she feels she failed him as his sister. Chase could see it all in her eyes. Behind the rage in them, he could see the tears she was fighting so hard to keep back. Then he darted his eyes towards the rest of Marshall's family; tears were running down their cheeks.
He stopped his snarling and growling and let his head droop in shame. "I'm sorry," he whimpered. "I-I'm sorry..." He walked away. The world became nothing but a blur behind him now. All he could hear was unintelligible screaming and crying as he made his way to the door. "I-I'm so sorry..."
