TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF SUICIDE
Also this will be my last update until around may 20th! Thank you to everyone who is reading and reviewing :)
Beca woke the next morning, to an empty bed. She bolted up and looked around the room, her heart sinking. Chloes purse was still on the chair by the door. Her clothes scattered around the room. But, the bed was empty.
It wasn't the first time she had woken up to find Chloe gone, but this time, after what she told her the night before. She couldn't help the worry that plagued her.
She threw the blanket back and swung her legs off, walking across the room to the door.
She walked into the kitchen, hoping Chloe was in there working on homework, drinking coffee, anything. But she wasn't. Aubrey however, sat at the table. Still in pajamas, her hair in a messy side braid. She held a cup of coffee that she didn't seem to have touched yet. She was frowning, and she looked exhausted.
"Bree?" She asked, her voice low so she didn't startle her. She looked up, and Beca could see the circles under her eyes. She wore no make up. In the amount of time she had known the blonde, she had always been well dressed, her make up applied to perfection, not a strand of hair out of place. How did she still manage to look so beautiful?
"Hey Beca." She smiled tiredly.
She walked over, grabbing a mug and getting her own cup of coffee. Once she had prepared it to her liking, she walked over and took a seat across from the blonde.
She knew Aubrey was upset, it wasn't hard to tell. She wanted to comfort her, but she really didn't know how. She glanced around, listening carefully, wondering if Chloe was in the living room.
"Chloe went to class." Aubrey spoke softly.
Beca looked up, her eyes clouded with confusion.
"She did?" She asked, "I thought her professors were sending her work?"
Aubrey shrugged her shoulders lightly. "She said, she needed to think about Somethings. She seemed a little upset, did something happen?" She asked bringing her coffee up to her lips. Her tone wasn't accusing. Or angry. Just curious.
Beca looked up at her, her eyes full of sadness, knowing this was because of what she had told her the night before.
"Uh, I... We talked last night. I told her Somethings..." She said looking down into her steaming cup. "I told her a little more about, my past...why I'm like this." She said. Her voice was small, regretful, and Aubrey picked up on it right away.
"She didn't leave you Beca. I don't know what you told her, but Chloe, she... She cares about you, so much... things like this, they really effect her. They take a lot out of her. She is so kind, so loving. She was raised that way. It's really hard for her, to even fathom the horrors that can and do happen to other people. To you." She said softly.
"I promise I don't know what you two talked about, but, I'm sure it wasn't good?"
Beca shook her head slowly. "No...it wasn't good."
Aubrey nodded and stood up, walking around the table and taking a seat next to her. "She's processing, I promise you, it's not a bad thing. She probably just didn't want you too see it."
Beca nodded. She understood what Aubrey was saying, and she believed her. But, there was still the insecurities, the ones that were telling her, she fucked up. Again. She shouldn't have told Chloe what she did. She scared her away. She ruined it.
She pushed the negative thoughts away as much as she could. She felt that familiar urge. The one that was telling her, she should be punished for upsetting Chloe like she did. The one that nearly made her press the thin, sensitive skin of her wrist, against the scalding hot side of her coffee cup.
She closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath. She wasn't aware of Aubreys eyes on her. Watching her, knowing full well of the internal fight she was having.
She was doing so well. This would be the eighth day. Listen to Aubrey. She repeated this in her head. Listen to Aubrey, she knows what's happening with Chloe, she knows, and you know. It's all okay.
She let out the breath she held and opened her eyes to meet Aubreys. The blonde smiled softly.
"You're okay." She said. Knowing that Beca had just done what she once thought would be impossible.
Beca smiled back. "I'm okay."
XXXXXX
With Aubreys encouragement and cell phone, Beca sent a text to Chloe. Letting her know she missed her, and to be safe and have a good day. She couldnt wait to see her again. They sat on the couch now, relaxing with the tv on low.
Aubrey smiled as Beca hit the send, and nervously handed it back.
It chimed almost immediately and Aubrey smiled, handing Beca the phone.
It read, 'I miss you too, baby 3 I'm sorry I wasn't there when you woke up, I'll be home soon. Can't wait to see you xoxox'
She smiled and handed it to Aubrey.
"Thanks."
The blonde nodded. "Of course."
Beca watched as she opened her phone, and hesitated to type something, then turned it off and set it aside.
"Everything okay?" She asked. Aubrey looked up, seeing the concern in Becas eyes, and knowing she had seen the change in Stacie the day before.
"Um, yeah... I uh, I don't know." She said looking down. She didn't really know if she should share what was going on. But, she looked up to see that Beca was looking at who in concern.
"Everything okay with you and Stacie?" She asked. The blonde looked back down. She waited, but she she didn't look up right away. She couldn't see her fingers anxiously playing with a string on her shirt.
When she did look up, Beca was shocked to see tears in her eyes.
"Bree?" She asked.
She sniffled, a tear falling. "I-I don't know what I did, Beca. We...we were fine. She, she told me she liked me, and we...well you saw." She said, motioning to her neck where Stacie had marked her skin. Beca nodded, seeing Aubrey begin to fall apart.
"I thought we might be something, and then, last night... She completely ignored me... Not one word. She...she didn't even sleep in her bed...she slept on the couch last night. And then, this morning...she just left." She said, her voice cracked as her tears fell, and Beca could hear the pain in her voice.
"Aubrey, I...I don't know what too..." She struggled for words, and actions. She had no idea how to handle this.
"I thought I was what she wanted... At least we didn't have sex." She scoffed wiping her tears away angrily.
Beca shifted, unsure of how to help her.
She looked up. "I'm sorry, I know this isn't your problem. I don't mean to unload on you, I just... I don't know what to do."
"It's okay, Bree. I'll do whatever you need me to do, just tell me?" She said sincerely. She truly wanted to help, she just had no idea how.
Aubrey smiled, hearing the slight panic in her voice, she knew Beca had no experience with this. She didn't know how to comfort people, she barely knew how to accept it herself.
"It's okay, just, thank you for listening,"
She nodded. "Of course." She said, feeling slightly angry at Stacie for making Aubrey feel like this.
They heard the door open then and Stacie walked in. Aubrey looked down, wiping furiously at her tears and Beca looked up, seeing Stacies eyes on Aubrey, but she didn't say anything.
She wasn't sure where the sudden courage came from but she spoke as Stacie hastily turned to leave.
"Stop right there!" She called. Stacie stopped and turned, confusion in her eyes. Beca stood up, and Aubrey watched her in shock.
"You did this." She said, pointing at Aubrey, "you caused it, and she deserves to know why. Now get in here, and fix it." She said. "Before Chloe finds out."
Aubreys eyes were huge, staring at Beca in surprise, and Stacie stepped closer.
"Bree, I'm sorry." She said.
Aubrey turned, feeling anger at her seemingly easy apology, "What did I do? Why are you ignoring me?" She asked.
Stacies face fell even further and she came closer. "I didn't mean to hurt you Bree, I-"
"Well you did. Aren't I enough for you? I thought you liked me?" She asked in confusion. She knew she sounded desperate. She was, she needed to know what went wrong.
Stacie sat down beside her, trying to take her hand but she yanked it away. Her earlier sadness replaced by anger.
Beca began to back out of the room, leaving them alone.
"I'm sorry, Bree, I do want you, you're more than enough. You're everything I could ever dream of having. I just... I don't want to ruin it."
Aubrey looked at her in disbelief. "And you thought completely ignoring my existence, after what we did the other night, what I gave you, wouldn't ruin it?" She asked.
"I know, stupid way to handle it. I just... After Chloes speech, I just... It hit me. It hit me how important you are. You are so fucking amazing Aubrey, and I have never wanted to be with somebody so much, I just freaked,"
Aubreys eyes softened. "Chloe talked to you?"
Stacie looked up, "More like threatened." She said.
"I didn't think she would actually scare you." Aubrey admitted.
Stacie shook her head, "She didn't scare me." She said, "I'm fucking terrified to even look at you in a way she deems wrong."
Aubrey couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips. Stacie smirked.
"I'm sorry I froze up, and made you feel like you weren't enough, because you are, I'm so sorry,"
Aubrey took in the look of hope and sincerity in her voice and eyes.
"Just don't do it again. If you're this scared of Chloe, I'm assuming she'll probably stay true to her word." She winked.
"That's a scary thought." She laughed. Then slowly, leaned in and kissed Aubreys lips softly.
"Then I guess I just need to know something."
Aubrey smiled, after the kiss and looked at her expectantly.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" She asked. Aubrey smiled widely and threw her arms around Stacie, kissing her cheek before hugging her tightly.
"Of course I will!" Stacie hugged her back, loving having her in her arms again. The moment was short lived however and they jumped apart as the door flew open and a distraught redhead burst into the room.
"Chloe?" Aubrey asked as they stood up. Beca heard her come in, from the kitchen and hurried out.
She saw Chloes face and instantly went to her, leaning into her as Chloe wrapped her in a hug. Her sobs muffled by Becas shoulder.
Aubrey and Stacie rushed over, looking at eachother in worry,
"Chloe, what happened?" Stacie asked, gently rubbing her back.
She pulled away from Beca slightly. "I-I passed the treble house on my way back, and..." She sobbed.
They listened carefully. "I-it's bumper, he... He killed himself." She said, her whole body erupting into sobs as Stacie and Aubreys mouths fell open.
A/N: Suicide? Assisted suicide? Murder? What this story coming too?!
