Frank and Marie had just finished explaining why Shadow was there.
"So, let me get this straight, love…" Oswald started. "You're telling us that this bloody thing is a good friend of your nephew?" He asked.
"Uh… yeah." Marie answered.
"Cool." Larry said with awe.
"Well, look at that that!" Oswald announced. "That's the first time in three years I heard that man speak."
Rob however was unimpressed. "Oh come on, Marie! If this thing was so civilized why did we see it on the news chewing on a deer carcass?" He spat.
Marie didn't know how to answer that.
Rob folded his arms. "Well?" he pressed.
"Let me ask you something:" Shadow butted in. "If you are so civilized, why would you want to cut my head off and make it into trophy?" Shadow demanded.
Rob was caught off guard. "W-w-well." He stammered.
"I was eating my fresh kill, because it's what keeps me healthy." Shadow explained. "What's your excuse?" He pressed again.
Rob didn't know how to answer that.
"The thing makes a good point, Rob." Oswald admitted.
Rob didn't say anything.
"Is Amy awake yet?" Frank asked to change the subject.
Rob snapped back to reality. "I think she's waking up" He said as he kneeled back down.
"Oohhh." Amy groaned as she came too.
"Honey?" Rob asked.
"Oh, Rob, what happened?" Amy asked in confusion as she sat up. At that she saw Shadow just standing there. She froze in fear.
At that, Shadow glanced over at Marie before he proceeded over to Amy.
"You keep away from her!" Rob warned, but you could tell he was too scared to do anything.
Shadow ignored Rob and kept going.
"Rob…" Amy squeaked full of fear as Shadow approached her.
"You're a rather curious human." Shadow said very friendly as he got down on all fours and approached Amy.
Shadow and Amy were now face-to-face. "It's alright; I'm not going to hurt you." Shadow reassured as he placed one clawed hand on Amy's back, and the other on her arm to pull her off the ground.
After Shadow helped Amy off the ground he just backed up a bit to give her some space.
Everyone was speechless, especially Amy.
"Well, I'm willin' to give 'em a chance." Oswald said to break the silence.
Rob, Amy and Larry all turned to stare at Oswald.
"Aww, come on, give the bloody lad a chance." Oswald tried.
Larry scooted in his chair and placed a napkin in his lap.
Oswald smiled. "That's two out of four." He announced. "Come on… what do ya say?" He asked Rob and Amy as he took his seat.
Rob and Amy looked at each other for a moment like they were having a silent conversation. Without saying a word the couple reluctantly sat down on the other side of the table where they were originally seated.
"Good, I'm very glad to see you all are willing to give the boy a chance." Marie said with a hint of delight.
Frank just looked relived. "Where do I sit?" He asked.
At that Marie pulled out a seat next to Rob. "Right here." She directed.
"And where is Shadow going to sit?" Frank asked causally.
Marie didn't think of that. "Oh, uh… right over here." She said as she pulled out a chair next to Oswald.
Oswald pointed at the seat Marie pulled out. "Next to me?" he asked.
Marie answered with a pleading look.
"Well, alright." Oswald gave in. "I guess I don't see any harm in it."
Shadow reluctantly sat down. "Trust me, I feel just as awkward about this as you do." He admitted.
Oswald couldn't help but look down at Shadow's tail. Nervous chuckle. "That's a bloody long tail you got there, lad." He said with a hint of amazement.
Shadow inquisitively looked down at his tail. "Firstly: What is the big deal about my tail? Secondly: My tail isn't bloody in fact it's rather clean." Shadow answered.
Frank just placed his face in his hands and mumbled under his breath. "Good grief."
Oswald laughed a bit. "It's just a figure of speech, lad."
Shadow was just getting more inquisitive by the moment. "You talk differently." He pointed out.
"I'm from England, Shadow." Oswald explained.
Shadow just looked even more confused.
Frank really started to slump down in his seat. "Forgive him, Sir." Frank said as he took his hands away from his face. "He's rather innocent, and I believe you're the first human he's met that isn't American."
Oswald just nodded in an understanding way.
"I have plans to educate him." Marie announced.
Frank cracked a smile "And to that I say: Good luck, he's stubborn." Then he started to laugh.
Before anyone could say another word Gregory came out of the kitchen with a big cart full of food. "I see you already got the introductions done." He said with a bit of unease.
"Ah good, I'm starving." Frank said trying to be optimistic.
Larry certainly looked happy to see dinner, but Amy, Rob and Oswald all looked uneasy. One thing for sure that everyone would agree on was: This would be a dinner to remember.
