Prompt Number Thirty Eight - Suspenseful
Word Count (discounting A/Ns): 489
Riven sighed as he walked. He didn't know why but there was a weird feeling inside of him. A feeling that he was being watched by someone.
He kept his eyes open for anything that he deemed suspicious but so far, there was nothing.
In a way, the feeling excited him. It was sort of fun to be kept on his toes, to be kept in suspense. It made him feel like he was the hero of a movie – of a deliciously creepy movie – on the lookout for a serial killer or a much feared beast.
He reached the weapons store. His tutor, Mr Spiel, had given him a list of weapons that he should purchase in order to further himself in his studies.
That had been a couple of months ago now, and it occurred to Riven that he didn't pass the exam because was such a terrible procrastinator. The feeling that haunted him at this moment was probably his mind thinking that Spiel was watching his every move.
As he went in and straight to the Phantoblade section, a wave of bright red locks caught his eye.
'Bloom?' he queried as he turned on his heel.
But the girl was definitely not Bloom. Her hair was far too short, not even reaching the shoulder blades, and a shade lighter.
She turned at his voice and a look of recognition spread across her face. 'Oh my god, Riven, is that you?'
Her voice was familiar… he knew it was… And then, 'Inaya!'
The hug that came immediately came afterwards unlocked a million pleasant memories in Riven's mind and he smiled, hoping the moment would never end.
But end it did. 'Inny? Where'd you go?' a new voice called.
Inaya broke the hug immediately. Her face flushed red just as soon as another male came into Riven's view.
'There you are,' he said. He looked to Riven. 'Who's this?'
Riven saw Inaya gulp. 'This… this is Riven. My childhood best friend.'
The guy raised an eyebrow. 'Childhood best friend, huh?' he asked.
Riven clenched his fists. This guy was bound to be trouble. 'Yes, that's right,' he replied coolly. 'And you are?'
'Damien. Damien Fisher. Inaya's boyfriend.' He held out a hand. His other arm snaked around Inaya's waist.
Riven glanced at it and then crossed his arms. 'Right.'
'Now listen here, River.' Damien's voice was sharp. 'I don't know what kind of a past you two hold but it better not interfere with the present. Understand?' He frowned.
Riven raised both his eyebrows. 'Or what, Mr Fisher?'
Damien leaned in close to Riven, his eyes narrowing. 'Or else I will make your pathetic life a living hell.'
'Damien…' Inaya protested, her voice weak.
'No, Inny.' Damien took her hand and led her away.
Riven scowled. Something was really wrong here.
It really felt like he was a hero in a movie. And Damien was the much feared beast.
Gosh, it has been four months since I updated this. I'm so sorry. If you read my note a few days ago on my profile, you know why this is. Thanks, everyone!
