Chapter Thirty- Seven

It was almost midnight and Layla being naturally stubborn had refused to eat dinner. She hadn't spoken to Niklaus since she walked out of the room they once share. She heard Hayley leave earlier and she wished she had let Hayley take her to Mystic Falls instead of listening to her heart. Everytime she listened to her heart it got hurt. Niklaus was her achillies heel. If she didn't shield herself he would be the death of her. She leaned onto the rail of the balcony as she considered how much easier her life would have been had she not went to the airport that day. None of the pain and betrayal she had felt over the last few months would've happened.

Tyler and her would still be close. She would've never got sucked into the chaos that was Niklaus's life. Then again she would've missed out on meeting the one person in this world that felt like home to her. She growled in frustration at the whole situation. He didn't have to tell her the truth. He could've let her go on believeing the lie, but he chose to tell her the truth. That had to mean something right? She slammed her hands on the railing in frustration once more.

"Damn it!" she swore as the need to rip something apart washed over her.

She pushed away from the railing and began to pace back and forth as she tried to calm herself down. She could not let him break her resolve. She just needed to make it through the next three days and she'd be away from here. He'd compel her to forget that he finally trusted her and she'd leave. It was the only choice she had left. She deserved someone to not only love her, but trust her as well. It was the right decision. At least that's what she would tell herself to make sure she didn't fall back into those baby blues.

Niklaus's scent filled her nose and she was torn between wanting to rip his clothes off and ripping him apart. She stared out into the lighted streets as he felt him approach her. He didn't say anything he just stood next to her staring out into the streets. He was close enough she could feel the heat from his body. She was very aware of everything about him. The sound of his breathing. The smell of his shower soap. The way he use to touch her ever so slightly because he wanted to feel her skin against his.

She risked a glance at his profile. He was staring straight ahead, but his features were tired looking. He'd been through a lot in the last twenty-four hours. He watched his daughter be born, her mother die, and was helpless to stop them from taking her. Not to mention the moonlight rings that made him weak. A part of her wanted to take him in her arms and just be there for him. She quickly shoved that part down. She couldn't let him get to her again.

"You have to eat something." he said not looking at her as she returned her focus back to the streets.

"Are you still going to hold me here?" she asked her tone had lost some of the bite it had before. She didn't want to argue anymore. She was too tired and hungry. Maybe refusing to eat wasn't such a great idea after all. She thought as her stomach growled.

"Your appetite is increasing because of you being a wolf." she chuckled as he heard her stomach growl. He would wait this out. He knew how stubborn she could get, but she was also a wolf so she'd eat eventually.

"You didn't answer my question." she persisted as she turned to face him. The second their eyes met she was hit with desire so strong she nearly fell to her knees under the intensity of it. She already gave into once tonight, she wasn't going to do it again

"You already know the answer." he said as he smelled the scent of her arousal so strong he nearly rolled his eyes into the back of his head. She didn't even realize her wolf saw his wolf as her mate. Her wolf was submitting to his wolf, but Layla being the beautiful stubborn woman she was would fight him and her wolf before she submitted to him." I'm sure you're learning that everything is more heightened now that you're a wolf." he cocked his head to the side as he watched the play of emotions across her face. Her face was flushed. Her breath hitched. Her heart was pounding loudly as she fought against her wolf.

"Yes, I'm learning." she stated as she forced herself to look away from him. Her emotions were running rapt right now and she didn't trust herself to be a lone with him.

"Did you know that a wolf knows its mate even if they'd never seen each other before?" her breathing hitched a little more as her scent thickened. " The first time I saw you in that airport my wolf called to yours." her heard her swallow and she fought against the rush of feelings." It's no good fighting your wolf." he lowered his voice as he watched her fighting her wolf for control. " The more you fight her the more worse it'll be." he stepped behind her needing to touch her, but knowing she'd fight him if he did.

"I'm not going to sleep with you." she forced out as she felt his breath caress the back of her neck and fought back a whimper.

"No one said anything about sleeping." he retorted with a smirk as he leaned his head down inhaling deeply as he ran his nose lightly from the bottom of her ear to where her pulse was pounding wildly.

"Stop it." she snapped in frustration as she pushed him away from and put distance between them by moving to the otherside of the balcony." I wont be controlled by my wolf. She doesn't know any better. I do." she swallowed back a growl as she felt the distance between them like a weight around her neck.

"When we aren't near each other our wolves get restless until we are in the same room." he told her as he turned toward her, but remained in his spot. " The more you fight her on this the more she'll fight back." he watched as she chewed her bottom lip and growled as she pushed away from the railing.

"Then I guess we'll be fighting" she snapped needing to get away from him. He was right not that she'd ever admit it out loud. Since she saw him in The Bayou her wolf has been restless and since seeing him on the balcony even when they were fighting she had the urge to rub her self all over him. " Where have you deemed me worthy enough to sleep at?" she refused to meet his eyes as she looked at her feet.

"In our room." He stated with a a pointed look as he saw the protest before it hit her lips." Don't worry love I wont mind if you snuggle up to me while you sleep." he followed her inside." In fact I insist on it."

"I won't be snuggling up to you while I sleep because you are not sleeping in the same bed as me ever again." she retorted determined to not give into her wolf's persistent urgings to let him have his way with her. Besides angry sex was really hot sex. She felt her body catch fire and nearly groned out loud from the intensity.

"I have no intentions of sleeping tonight." he was so close to her to could almost feel his skin against hers."Judging by your intoxicating smell you don't want to sleep either." she swallowed harshly as her throat suddenly became dry.

"It's been a very long night." she had to clear her throat." I'm going to sleep." She moved passed him going to their room as she tossed over her shoulder." Alone." he followed her.

"It's been a long day for me too."he caught her eyes as she finally brought her eyes to his and he saw the desire that burned her just as hot as it burned him.

" Seriously two hybrids and a vampire live here where the hell am I gonna go?" she snapped as her frustration started to get the better of her.

"I know how resourceful you are." he said as she met his eyes and he saw the inner battle she fought with her wolf." I promise to not lay a hand on you all night unless you beg me." he watched her struggle before she answered.

"At least that is one promise I know you'll keep because I don't beg." she tossed at him as she folded her arms across her chest.

"I have it on good authority that you have and I am certain you will again." he brought his face so close to hers they were nose to nose.

"Not in this life time." she said as she inhaled his scent and her nipples harden instantly. Her wolf was not happy that was for sure, but Layla knew how it would end if she gave in. She stood her ground even though his closeness was drawing reactions from her body and wolf that were nearly overwhelming. He leaned ever so slightly closer to her and she turned her head before his lips could touch hers. She felt his breath on the side of her neck, but before she could move he had pinned her to the nearest wall not with his hands, but his entire body.

"Niklaus," she tried to protest, but the words died in her throat as he kissed just below her ear. He then ran his tongue down to the wildly beating pulse. He didn't fight fair she pushed against him." This will not happen." she wished the words sounded more firmer than they did. She felt her wolf become restless and the urge to bow her head hit her once more. "My wolf doesn't know how this all will end. I do and thanks, but no thanks."she met his eyes stubbornly as he stared at her for a moment.

"Alright love have your way." he conceded as he raised his hands and moved so she could move, but before she could put any distance between them he added" For now, the night is still young. We never were the type of married couple who just slept in the same bed. As I recall not much sleeping occurred at all." he began to unbutton his shirt as she turned her back to him and pulled down the covers."Even when you were angry at me." he smiled wickedly " Those were my favorite nights." he inhaled deeply it took every bit of his self control not to toss her on the bed and prove to her that she would beg him.

"Yeah that was then and this is now." she felt his presence behind her as her wolf seemed to claw at her resistance.

"Now you're a new wolf." his voice was low as he spoke to her." You feel everything more intensly than before." he wasn't touching her yet, but he knew the effect he was having on her" You haven't learned how to tell when your wolf is telling you something yet." He took a deep breath and inhaled her scent" That restless feeling you feel when we aren't around each other, I feel it too. It's our wolves wanting to be near each other. Even now when you're angry with me your wolf calls to can not fight her because she's apart of you." he heard her heart speed up.

"Stop this isn't fair and you know it." she said barely being able to fight anymore.

"Nothing's fair when it comes us."she turned around and he took that moment to captured her lips in a heated, passion filled kiss." Good night, love sweet dreams." he walked over to the other side of the bed he didn't even try to hide the smirk as he crawled into bed naked.

"Okay that's it." she snapped as she snatched a pillow off the bed and headed toward the door. Now way was she going to get into bed with him.

"Where are you off too?" Before she even made it near the door he was in front of her. It was all she could do not to look down which forced her to meet his eyes.

"As far from you as I can possibly get." she snapped as she pushed passed him. He was naked not like he was going to follow her.

"Running away was always your strongest solution." she heard him say as she was midway down the stairs.

"I seem to remember you running away first." she threw at him as she continued down the stairs." I'm just trying to save myself the heartache and tears."

"I seem to remember your underwear being in my possession." he said darkly as she stopped in mid step.

"You know what keep them." she turned to see that he had put on pants now and was holding her white lacey undies in his hand." I doubt they'll fit you, but hey you never know." Not wanting him to know how embarassed she felt now she turned around, but he was in front of her now.

"I prefer nothing." he said his eyes darkened with lust as he looked down into her face." You know you can't leave so, why try." he stepped closer to her and raised a brow when she didn't step back.

"It's not in my nature to give up." she said as she tried to side step him, but he grabbed her upper arm." I thought you weren't going to lay a hand on me until I begged you." she mocked as she glarred at him.

"Yeah, well I changed my mind." he said as he pulled her against him.

Before she could utter one word of protest his mouth was on hers in a hard, bursing, and demanding. She struggled against him. She manged to put a little distance between them which surprised her, but it wasn't long before he had her pinned against the nearest wall. She fought him even turning her head, but that only gave him access her neck.

"Oh, don't mind me I'm just going to bed." Hayley interrupted as she walked in on them. She looked from Klaus's face to Layla's. Layla used Hayley interruption to make her escape up the stairs." You should be easy with her she doesn't understand how to be a wolf if you keep pushing her she's going to push back." she warned Klaus as she went up stairs.
