Chapter 34

Jasper paced in front of Carlisle's office waiting for him to finish his talk with Alice. Jasper needed to know what was to be done with Edward. He had put off the inevitable for long enough.

He had come to the conclusion that the Cullens were nothing but a huge time bomb just waiting to go off. He had to report this as promised.

He just hoped he hadn't waited too long, and with that said his cell phone rang. "Fuck!" he cursed as he fished the phone out of his jacket pocket and looked at the screen to see who it was; as if he didn't already know who it would be. He ran from the house in case the others could hear and into the woods behind the house before answering his phone.

He knew they would be calling soon. Edward had stirred up way too much trouble for them not to find out; it was only a matter of time.

"Hello sir," Jasper said answering his phone.

"It seems my dear Jasper that the Cullens have been making themselves known in the human world. I expected a call from you, but when one never came I took it upon myself to come check it out," the voice on the other end said.

"I'm sorry sir, I was going to call you after talking to Carlisle, to see what he was going to do about Alice and Edward, but he's still in his office talking to Alice," Jasper explained.

"And Edward?" the voice asked.

"He ran off, but I'm sure he's still in the area, he'd never leave the girl, and he is the ring leader in all this. He manipulated Alice into thinking that the girl is his mate," Jasper explained.

"And is she?" the voice questioned.

"No…sir," is all Jasper said with no more explanation about the girl. He didn't know whether to say anything about the shifters for fear it would start a whole different scenario, and not in a good way.

"I see…we are in Seattle and will be joining you shortly. I wish this to stay between us for now or at least until we get there. Is that understood, Jasper?" he demanded.

"Of course, Master," Jasper said as he was disconnected with Master Aro.

Jasper hated for things to come to an end this way. He was put with the Cullens over fifty years ago to watch them and report to the Volturi every so often to see how the Cullens were fairing.

He'd be lying if he said he didn't care for the Cullens, he just hated their way of life, which is why this coven was beginning to fall apart. As Jasper had told Carlisle before, being humane is the problem. They weren't human they were vampires and needed to start acting as such.

The Volturi had taken down Maria and her newborn army many years ago. The Volturi killed most of her army, only saving a few that had some sort of gift of course for their own guard, including Jasper. Fifty years of servitude or death, they had offered him.

It wasn't hard to figure out what he chose, so he was put with the Cullens to watch over and report anything that looked suspicious, which he has done on a regular basis. Nothing had been done to the Cullens as of yet, that is until Edward started causing trouble by trying to get to this human girl, leaving a trail of death in his wake.

Well, maybe it wasn't him leaving the trail of death, but it certainly was the mind controlling vampire he and Alice hired that did, which made it their fault, and the results of their actions were on their way.

Aro had set up Alice much like Edward had. He manipulated Alice by way of a guard member named Chelsea, whose gift was to bond one person together with another.

She had made Alice believe this, triggering a vision that her mate was on his way to meet her in a little coffee shop in Pennsylvania. As she did that, Aro sent Jasper there to meet up with Alice with the ruse of joining her on her trek to live with the animal drinkers for a much better life than what they had been living.

Jasper hated doing this, but it was this or die at the hands of the Volturi, and what's fifty years when you have forever. He just hoped they were true to their word.

It wasn't too bad, Jasper thought, the worse part about living with the Cullens was he had to drink from animals, which he hated, and was constantly starving for doing so. So he took pleasure when it was time to meet up with the Volturi to give his report.

He'd stay with his brother in venom, Peter and his wife Charlotte for a few weeks and drown himself in human blood; savoring it knowing he'd have to go back and deal with the animal drinkers once again.

His fifty years were up a few years ago, but he offered to stick it out until the job was finished. If Jasper was anything, he was persistent.

He knew something was going on with this family, but Edward was good at hiding things and manipulating others. And Carlisle…well, he was just a joke when it came to running this coven, it made Jasper want to puke.

It was funny in a way. The only one even close to being a true vampire was Edward. He just needed a little guidance with the rules of engagement is all. Something he'd never get from Carlisle that's for sure, as he was sure Master Aro would be glad to tutor him in the right way of vampirism, Jasper thought with a chuckle and a shake of his head.

He made his way back to the house and walked out on the front porch waiting for the three Volturi kings to make their way through the wooded area to confront the Cullens.

It had been a couple of days since Bella had found out about her powers and things were going well. It was the day of the bonfire and she was looking forward to it.

The guys had explained what happens at those bonfires and made it sound like it was going to be fun, something Bella hadn't had in a while with all that had been going on as of late on the Reservation. She was really looking forward to it.

Bella was standing at the sink, her arms deep in dishwater, as she was lost in thought staring out the window over the sink. Sam came in the back door and walked up behind Bella and leaned over and kissed her on the neck wrapping his arms around her waist, bringing her out of her day dream with a start.

"Sam, you startled me," she said with a jump slinging water all over the counter top.

"Are you okay honey?" he asked leaning back and staring into her eyes worriedly. Bella chuckled.

"I'm fine, I was just thinking about the bonfire today. When can we leave for it?" she asked excited. Sam chuckled at her enthusiasm.

"Soon baby, why don't you go get ready while I finish up in here then we'll take off," Sam offered. Bella face brightened as she gave Sam a peck on the lips and ran off towards their bedroom to get ready.

Sam chuckled again and shook his head. He was ecstatic that his imprint was happy. He thought back to when he brought Bella to his house the night after dealing with that idiot bloodsucker, Edward, but he was the last thing on his mind at the moment.

Sam wanted Bella to move in with him and he hoped she wouldn't be too disappointed once she saw how he lived. It wasn't that the house was all that bad, but he knew Bella came from money, granted it was her stepfather's, but still he could only imagine what kind of house she lived in before coming here.

He worried she'd find his house unbecoming to her standards and not want to live with him in this house, his house. Once he told Bella this she chastised him for thinking so little of her. She told him that all the money in the world couldn't buy her love and that included houses.

When Bella walked into his house Sam held his breath and watched her closely to see what kind of reaction she would have. He was surprised as he watched Bella look around, sighed, and then roll up her sleeves and head for the kitchen and start barking out orders.

Sam spent most of that day helping Bella mostly by finding her things because she didn't know where to look for them. She started in the kitchen and worked her way through the house noticing things as she went.

Like the photos hanging on the wall in the living room, she had walked over to them and scanned the pictures noticing that most of them were of the pack and Sam.

She did notice one picture that hung next to the entrance to the kitchen. She stopped and smiled as she scanned the woman's friendly looking face that was staring back at her.

"Is this your mother?" Bella asked noticing the woman shared the same eyes as her Sam's.

"Yeah, that's Allison," Sam said smiling as he stood next to Bella smiling at the picture that Bella had asked about.

"Is she still living?" Bella asked. Sam chuckled.

"Oh yeah, she's living in Florida now," he said. Bella looked at Sam and smiled.

"What part?" she asked wanting to know. She was interested because she had grown up in Florida, and found it interesting that the mother of someone she knew had moved there.

"Bradenton Beach, Florida, and I hate that she's living on the beach," Sam added.

"Why is that?" Bella asked curiously.

"Because if a storm ever passed through there she'd have very little time to get off the island, and there's only one bridge that connects the island to the mainland," Sam said. Bella smiled at how protective of his mother he was.

"Sam, I'm sure they'd give her ample time to get off the Island, as I am that she will be fine," she told him with a chuckle looking back to the picture. "She's very beautiful," Bella told him.

"Yeah, she is," Sam said with a smile, and then his facial expression changed to one of sadness. "My father was a fool to leave her," Sam said and then paused, and you could see he was deep in thought, probably thinking of the way his father treated his mother.

"She's never got over the abandonment of us, but at the same time she kept hope in her heart that he would return. God knows why, but she still loves him. She's never given any man a second look because of it," Sam said sadly as they stood staring at the photo of his mother together.

"I just wish she'd move on you know, find someone to love her the way she deserves, someone to take care of her, be there for her," Sam said shaking his head. "He's never coming back, it's been twenty years since Joshua Uley stepped foot on this Reservation, and truth be known, I never want to see him again," Sam told Bella.

Bella turned to face Sam, she wrapped one of her arms around Sam's neck and brought his head down and kissed him softly, she then pulled back and smacked Sam's shoulder.

"Don't you ever think I'd never choose you over where you live Samuel Uley," She said and stormed off to finish cleaning elsewhere in the house. Sam chuckled as he thought back to Bella smacking him, especially when she could have hurt her hand in the process, but it did stop his ranting over his father, which was probably why she smacked him to begin with.

Sam finished cleaning the kitchen and was brought out of his daydream by Bella walking into the room. They had been staying at Sam's for the past two days and when he had to patrol he'd leave young Quil sleeping on his sofa to look out for his mate on pain of death.

Today was a special day, Sam could feel it in the air. He could feel that after this meeting things were about to change. He didn't know why he felt this way, but he did.

The others only thought it was a bonfire to welcome Bella to the Reservation and in a way it was. It was also to explain to the guys what was going on with Bella.

Jake of course knew what was going on, but only because it was him that had to cart Billy all over the Reservation to learn new things about Bella, but the rest of the pack was clueless. They knew something was going on, but didn't know what for sure.

The bonfire was also so the other new imprints could hear the stories, although most of them were raised on the Reservation and knew part of the stories and legends already; they didn't know how real they truly were.

"I'm ready Sam," Bella called out from the other room. Sam dried his hands on a kitchen towel and tossed it onto the counter before joining Bella in the living room.

"I'm so excited Sam," Bella said with a giggle, causing Sam to howl out a laugh.

"Me too baby," Sam said as he led Bella hand in hand down the path and to the beach to join the elders and the pack. Bella immediately saw Old Quil sitting with who she thought must be the other elders.

She ran to him and jumped into his arms giving him a kiss on his cheek. Old Quil laughed and returned her hug and kissed her on her cheek, and then proceeded to introduce her to the other elders who were excited to meet her, especially when they found out what Bella was to become. When he got to Sue Clearwater Swan, she paused and looked around.

"Where's Charlie?" Bella asked.

"Right here baby girl," Charlie said from behind her.

"Daddy," she squealed as she turned and jumped into her father's arms as well. Charlie chuckled and also returned her hug. He kissed her forehead when she pulled away, and took a seat next to his wife when Sam came up and pulled her to their seat around the fire.

Bella looked around searching for Phil, where is he she wondered. Surely they wouldn't keep him from coming to the bonfire, hell he already knew the stories and legends, but as she thought that she found him.

He was sitting talking to a Native woman Bella had never seen before, they were laughing and joking around. Bella smiled hoping that there was something going on there, God knows he deserved to be happy after all her mother had put him through. She was happy for him.

It was only noon, but the fire was burning brightly, it was more symbolic than for warmth and light, especially when Billy started telling the stories of their history and legends. Billy didn't leave out a thing.

He told of Taha Aki and the Third Wife, he told of the priestess that would come, and was already there, which caught some of the pack off guard, but all were in awe knowing it had to be Bella with all she had been doing the last few days.

It was Old Quil who told of the lost tribe members. Even Charlie was surprised at hearing it was his ancestors that were a part of and responsible for what was happening to his little girl. Not that he cared one way or the other; yes, he was proud of his daughter, but he was more interested in Bella being safe more than her becoming an Ancient.

Sue felt the same way, but she was part of the tribe and had lived here all her life. Although she was happy Bella would be safe, she was excited that one of the prophecies would be fulfilled, which didn't happen often.

It had been a hundred years since the last one, and it came in the way of Ephraim Black when he had come face to face with Taha Aki himself, and even then she didn't know what was said.

The crowd was listening intently to Old Quil's story, when the sun in its rarity was shining brightly today had begun to darken. The group looked up at the sky to see the moon start to block out the sun. They all stood to their feet at the wonder that was taking place.

"An eclipse? I've not heard anything about an eclipse happening today," Charlie said completely baffled.

"Neither have I, Charlie," Old Quil said. Just then the fire in the pit exploded sending the fire shooting to the sky. The pack and their mates jumped back a few feet in surprise. It was then the mist began to fold off the water and move inland.

The wolves wrapped their arms around their imprints and pushed them slightly behind them, Bella included, but Bella wasn't having any of that, she moved away from Sam, and moved closer to the fire. "Bella!" Sam called trying to pull her away afraid she'd be hurt.

"It's okay Sam, it's going to be okay," Bella said calmly. Sam looked at his mate's face and it was glowing. Her hair blew around her face and it looked like beams of blue lights were shooting out from the ends of her hair.

But in reality it was only the glow, it surrounded her entire body, she was incased in a blue light much like the one that appeared on Charlie's wound when Bella healed him.

Sam was in awe, so astounded that he couldn't move; he couldn't take his eyes off his imprint. She looked like an angel standing there with her face all aglow.

Sam knew something was going to happen today, but he didn't know what and not knowing made him fearful. Even though he was afraid, he couldn't help but stare at his mate.

"Bella," he whispered as the mist continued to take over the shore so much so that the entire group disappeared from each other's sight, only the fire light and the blue glow that surrounded Bella could be seen echoing off the mist. It slowly began to move away, leaving the group encircled in mist, surrounding them from anyone who might come upon them, hiding them all from onlooker's eyes.

It became very quiet as Bella stood in front of the group. She turned to face the water as if someone called to her; she took one step and stopped just as the mist parted, and the vision of a woman dressed in deer skin and moccasins walked from the mist. She had beautiful bronze skin, and her raven hair pulled into two plaits' and had a band wrapped around her head that held two feathers that represented who she belonged to. She was beautiful.

She smiled as she looked upon Bella, and then stepped to the side as the mist parted again and another beautiful woman stepped from the mist. She looked much like the first one and she too smiled at Bella and then turned to face the one who came first.

The one who came first bowed slightly, to the second one and then they both stood side by side as the mist once again parted and a russet colored wolf split the mist, and joined the two women. There was no mistaking who the wolf was as he too bowed to the second woman.

The first woman walked over and took her place next to the wolf as the second woman stood in front of them and turned back to Bella. She smiled as Bella bowed before her as well, causing the group to bow as they realized who their visitors were.
