I don't own Harry Potter

Please read and review. There are some quotes from Deathly Hallows, especially the talk between Severus and Voldemort. I have seen the movies too much and some of it bled into the dialogue too.

Chapter 35

Severus paced nearby the forest. He was waited quietly. He had to help the boy; Dumbledore had requested that he made sure Harry knew about his fate. Lucius came close, the inner circle waited by a clearing.

"The Dark Lord wants to see you." The blond man looked haggard and tired.

Severus nodded, and tried to leave but Lucius stopped him; "You have to stop this madness. Our sons are in the castle."

"Have you asked the Dark Lord to call off the attack?" Severus asked without emotion.

"He wasn't receptive to my plight. You are his right hand, he listens to you. Severus you have to convince him this isn't the best plan of attack." Lucius was talking to his friend, not a fellow Death Eater. This was a father worried about his child.

"There's nothing we can do to stop the events of tonight." Severus said wearily, tired too.

Lucius grabbed his arm when he tried to leave again. "Does your son means that little to you?"

Severus let the mask slip. "He and his mother are safe; you should have ensured your family's safety too." Lucius was stupefied by his attitude, "He's waiting for you in the Shrieking Shack."

The battle was at its climax. Severus could hear the battle cries and could feel the wards around the town as he walked to the building. The Dark Lord had placed anti-dissaparation spells. He had contained the battle to Hogsmeade, in part to insure that no more aid came to Harry Potter and also to keep his Death Eaters from escaping.

He encountered a few stragglers making their way through Aberforth's pub. He saw Oliver Wood, and Percy Weasley asking about his family. He made his way through town and hoped once again that Nymphadora was away from here, safe and sound. He needed to reason with the monster. Severus needed to find Harry, to make sure he knew about the part of Voldemort inside of him.

Lord Voldemort was waiting for him in the dilapidated house. "Severus." The man in question kneeled, as a faithful Death Eater does. "My Lord." He said almost reverently.

He noticed the snake was encased in a protective sphere, odd to say the least since the monster let his pet roam the world freely. "Do you agree with Lucius? Is it best to call off the attack?"

Severus wouldn't contradict his wishes. "The resistance is crumbling."

"No thanks to you." The Dark Lord replied.

"My Lord, let me seek the boy, bring him to you."

"You sound Like Lucius. You don't understand the boy like I do. He will come to me by the end of the night" The monster said arrogantly.

"He might be killed accidentally by any other than yourself." Severus appealed to his caution.

"No, my Death Eaters have explicit orders, capture Harry Potter and kill his friends."

Severus gut twisted with anxiety, he needed to go back and retrieve the boy. "I didn't call you to discuss Harry Potter. I called you for a different matter."

"You have been valuable, very valuable indeed Severus." Voldemort circled him.

"I have a problem Severus. This is the Elder Wand, the Deathstick." He showed him Albus's wand.

"It doesn't truly answer to me. I am not its true master. This wand belonged to Dumbledore. You are a clever man Severus surely you must know." Severus felt a cold sensation in the pit of his stomach. This wasn't supposed to happen yet. He was supposed to let the boy know.

"While you leave the Elder Wand cannot really belong to me." Severus confirmed his suspicions and the last thought that came to his mind was that Nymphadora and Teddy would have to leave England for sure. Severus confirmed his suspicions and the last thought that came to his mind was that Nymphadora and Teddy would have to leave England for sure. He didn't have time left to tell Harry, he failed.

"You've been a good and faithful servant Severus but only I can be the Elder Wand's true master."

"Nagini kill." Severus saw the snake launch and attack his neck. The sharp fangs and the body tightly coiled itself around his. The pain was so intense and blunt; he could almost feel the venom making its way through his bloodstream. He felt life leaving him and saw as both monsters left the room without a second glance to his body.

He closed his eyes and thought about Nymphadora and his son. He would never see them again. He could feel somebody next to him; this had to be Lily's intervention. Wherever she was she made sure that her boy had the best chances. Harry Potter was in front of him, his face dirty and dare he say concerned.

He touched his hand shaking, his body almost giving up. "Take them to the pensieve." Severus saw as harry collected his memories. Severus focused on giving him memories about his role as a spy, his friendship with Lily and his love for Nymphadora. If Harry was successful he would be able to help Nymph and have her name cleared.

"Promise… me… take care of them…" He held his hand tightly and he could see Harry looked confused and scared. "Take care of her… take care of my boy… Promise." Severus felt life leaving him; his eyesight became blurrier and blurrier.

"I swear." Severus felt relieved and tried to smile but he couldn't any longer. He had no control over his body anymore. The venom started to paralyze him, he had to be quick.

"Look… at… me…" His voice sounded foreign to his own ears.

Harry Potter did so and once again he looked at those green eyes. "You have your mother's eyes." With that Severus exhaled his last breath and he was no more.

Nymphadora made it inside of the castle. Everyone looked at her with disdain and hatred, especially the students.

"What is she doing here?" Neville Longbottom almost spat.

Remus came forward. Remus always defending her, "She's here to fight."

"She's Snape's whore," a brown haired man said. Remus almost hexed him. Nymphadora held him off and they ran out of the room of requirement with a batch of people.

"I have to go." She tried to leave but Remus held her hand, "Be safe, Dora, whatever happens I love you." He hugged her and she hugged him back. "I love you too." And she did, he was one of her dearest friends.

Nymphadora tried to reach the headmaster's office but it was impossible, the gargoyles blocked the door with zeal.

She tried to go back to the Great Hall, defending herself against hexes, and curses. She dueled Dolohov, Thicknesse, Alecto Carrow and managed to injure the latter. Nymphadora watched as Kingsley fought Greyback off and Remus cursing Dolohov. Molly and Ginny fought Amycus Carrow together and managed to defeat him.

She didn't make it out of the castle. Nymphadora Tonks fought valiantly against Death Eaters, she saw Colin Creevy fall to Yaxley. Lavender Brown maimed by Greyback.

Nymphadora felt her side tingle and turned around. Bellatrix Lestrange cackled and sent a flurry of destructive curses her way. The young witch fought back with all she had. The deranged woman did her best to try and kill her. A killing curse almost touched Nymphadora but Minerva threw a protective hex and both women fought the crazed dark witch. Their duel came to an end when a horrible noise filled the castle. Even the giants and the spiders seemed to heed the call of silence.

She heard with repulsion how Voldemort called for a cease fire for an hour. Harry Potter had an hour to surrender. Voldemort promised to stop the bloodshed of magical blood if the boy gave himself up. Once the announcement was over the Death Eaters dissaparated; probably summoned by their master. Nymphadora breathed harshly, her side was throbbing and she discovered a huge black and purple bruise.

"What are you doing here girl? Where's Teddy? We have to get him out of this castle." Minerva asked her hurriedly.

"Teddy is safe with my mother, away from here. Where's Severus?" Nymphadora asked impatiently.

"He fled like the coward he is." Minerva spoke bitterly. Nymphadora held her tongue. Her Severus wasn't in the castle, where could he be.

"You have to let Poppy see you. That looks nasty." Minerva led a struggling Nymphadora to the nurse. On her way she saw the Weasleys crying, Ron wasn't there. Fred's body on the floor, lifeless, she felt her heart shrink and she almost fainted when she saw Remus's body not far away. She kneeled and cried for her friend.

Kingsley cried and held her to him. "Dolohov killed him. It was just a second, he looked at me and then that bastard killed him." She cried too.

"I'm sorry Tonks. I saw you fighting Bellatrix, for a few months I thought you had betrayed us." He kept crying.

"Remus and Fred are dead Kings. They're dead." That knowledge pierced her heart and increased her fearfulness for Severus.

She went to Molly and hugged her. "I'm so sorry Molly." They held each other.

Molly looked shell-shocked, Arthur and George cried harshly while Percy kept muttering. "It's my fault. My fault." Ron came back with Hermione. Harry wasn't with them.

Ron hugged his mother and cried too. Hermione had blood on her hands. Nymphadora was the first to notice it. "Hermione, where's Harry?"

The brunette spoke tonelessly. "He went to see professor's Snape memories."

Nymph felt hope, "He's alive then Severus is with him." Hermione cried a little. "The snake killed him. We saw it, he, he ordered the snake to kill Professor Snape. He's dead."

The world shifted on it axis rapidly. Nymphadora lost her balance and fell. "No" She felt hallow.

"Where?" Kingsley asked

"The Shrieking Shack, he bled out and we could do nothing. He's gone." Hermione cried the girl then went to Ron and they held each other.

Nymphadora tried to run but Kingsley and Minerva held her. "You can't. Your son needs you." Minerva had tears on her eyes.

"Get away from me." She spat angrily and there wasn't a force in the world that could stop her from going to him.

She ran as hard as she could. He couldn't be dead, not Severus, the tears tasted bitter. Her face was a mask of pain; it was as if her insides burned with the unbearable pain of losing a piece of yourself. She had never experienced a pain so consuming.

Nymphadora Tonks opened the door to the Shrieking Shack and a supernatural force guided her to the room where Severus was. He was on the floor just as Hermione said and above him was Fawkes Crying and singing softly. She laughed with happiness and marveled at the immediate shift in her emotions. She was scared beyond words but the presence of the phoenix and its songs infused her with hope. She didn't come closer in fear of interrupting the magnificent creature and its healing.

Fawkes cried over Severus who looked paled and lifeless. She contemplated the scene for about thirty minutes when Voldemort's voice rang out in the entire town.

"Harry Potter is dead; he was killed while he tried to escape. Come and say goodbye to your savior."

Nymphadora cried and her mind was jumbled with pain. They had to escape, she needed to make sure Severus could travel and pick up Teddy. She cried and for the first time in her life tried to pray. "Please whoever can hear me. I need help, please."

She watched as the bird flew away and Severus opened and then shut his eyes. The gesture scared her and she had to come close. She watched him breath shallowly, Nymphadora knew he needed medical assistance. She conjured a stretcher and after twenty minutes of hard work and concentration, the young auror managed to place Severus in the stretcher. She took a break of three minutes to catch her breath and with the last ounce of strength and concentration tried to apparate.

It was useless; the anti-apparation wards were firmly in place. She cried despondently. There wasn't another way. She had to make it to the castle and make sure that Madam Pomfrey took care of Severus. Going back to the castle meant putting herself and Severus in immediate danger but even if Voldemort killed her himself she wasn't going to watch as the love of her life and father of her child died slowly. She had to have faith that this would work. Severus would have teased her for such a Hufflepuff stance.

She wiped her tears and gingerly tried to move his body. She channeled all her magic into disillutioning Severus and herself. The trek through the tunnels was hellish. She had to make it to the castle. Nymphadora checked on Severus, his pulse was faint and the pallor increased by the second. She stopped three more times to catch her breath and rest and then she finally made it to the castle. Severus started bleeding again. The Great Hall was in shambles; she looked at him and then felt a sharp pain on her side. She looked at the spot where Bellatrix hit her. It was now black and spreading. Severus looked worse and Nymphadora's body gave up. She dropped next to him and held his hand. She closed her eyes and smiled. She wouldn't leave him; if they were to die they would die together. She thought of Teddy and the idea of leaving him left a bitter aftertaste in her mouth.
