Again, thank you so much for all the inspiration :) There's a little twist in this chapter, I'm sorry that it's short. There's a picture of the lily necklace on my profile page. About Elijah and Bridgette, their agreement is more complicated than it seems, he haven't forced her into anything.
Chapter 37
Brand new day
I felt very strange when I slowly opened my eyes, everything was fuzzy. I didn't have any pain, but my whole body felt numb and I could barely move my hand in order to rub my eyes. My fingers were just as numb as the rest of my body; I brought them in front of my face just to make sure that I still had fingers. Why was I feeling like this, what had happened to me?
"Liliya?"
I blinked and turned my head towards the familiar voice, I smiled when I saw Bridgette.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
I tried to speak, but my throat was numb as well, I had to cough few times before I managed to get a word out.
"What…happened?" I asked hoarsely.
"You were sick," she replied. "Do you remember that?"
For a moment I was confused, then I started to remember something. Rebekah had been with me and Klaus and… Kol? I wasn't sure about him, but I remembered someone making me to swallow blood, then some kind of medicine. Where was I? I looked around and noticed that I was in my own bed, there were fresh flowers and at least three dolls on the table next to my bed. What… Bridgette smiled and picked one of the dolls up, it had long blonde hair.
"This one is from me," she said. "I hope you like it."
"It…is beautiful, but why…"
"Your old doll had to be burned," she explained. "In order to stop the disease from spreading."
"Oh…" I muttered. "And those other ones?"
"From Klaus and Rebekah."
I was confused, why would they want to give me dolls?
"Oh…I…I have to thank them," I muttered and tried to get into a sitting position, but my body refused to cooperate.
"Why…why can I not…"
Bridgette moved next to me and helped me up; I wouldn't have been able to sit if she wouldn't have placed pillows behind my back.
"Easy," she said gently and picked up a goblet from the table. "Here is some water."
I tried to take the goblet, but I would have dropped it, my hands didn't work properly. I was starting to be afraid, what was wrong with my body?
"It's alright," Bridgette said calmingly. "Your body probably feels a little strange right now, but that is because you have not used it for a while."
I was even more confused.
"What?"
Bridgette bit her bottom lip.
"The elixir that Klaus gave to you healed you, but apparently it reacted with the vampire blood he also gave to you, you were unconscious for a while."
"How long?" I asked.
"Almost two months."
My eyes widened.
"What? But…how am I…alive?"
"Klaus' witches took care of you; I am not completely sure what they did, but obviously they knew what they were doing."
I tried to understand what I had just heard, but my mind was still fuzzy. I had been unconscious for two months? That sounded unbelievable. Finally I got over my confusion enough to notice how different Bridgette looked like, she was wearing a beautiful blue silk gown and her red curls were in a stylish coiffure. She was also wearing a gorgeous sapphire necklace.
"Wow," I muttered. "You look so beautiful."
"Thank you," she replied. "There have been…few changes while you slept."
"What kind of changes?"
She smiled, but her smile looked tense.
"Lord Elijah and I… I am now his mistress."
My eyes widened, I was staring at her with my mouth open.
"You and Elijah?"
"Yes."
"Wait…Was he the man you were seeing?"
Bridgette nodded.
"Yes, I am sorry that I did not tell you, but we thought it would be better to keep our…relationship secret. Of course there is no need for that anymore, now I have an official position as his mistress."
I had no idea what to say, the whole thing had surprised me completely.
"Is this what you want?" I finally managed to ask. "Are you happy?"
"Yes," she replied immediately, giving me a smile. "He is a noble man and I am happy with him."
"Then I am happy too," I said and tried to lift my hand in order to touch hers. She took my hand and squished it gently.
"Nothing will change," she assured. "I am still here for you, we can talk and spend time together just like before."
I smiled.
"Elijah is a good man; I am sure he treats you well."
Bridgette still seemed tense, but she smiled.
"Yes, he does. Oh, and we have one thing less to worry about, Kol left."
"What?"
I really wasn't sure what I thought about that, I could have sworn that I had felt his presence when I had been unconscious. That sounded really weird, but I was almost sure that I had heard his voice, whispering things in my ear. That was just crazy; I had probably imagined the whole thing. I did remember Klaus' voice, he had kept telling me that I had to wake up and Elijah's voice, he had read something to me. I even remembered Rebekah's voice, although I had no idea what she had said to me.
"Where did he go?" I heard myself asking.
Bridgette shook her head.
"I do not know, he just left. Perhaps he got bored; I heard that he does not like to be in one place for very long."
I knew that I should have been happy, he had hurt Bridgette and terrorized me for fun; it was definitely a good thing that he had left. For some reason I still didn't feel happy. Carelessly I looked at the dolls on the table and noticed a small box next to them.
"What is that?" I asked.
Bridgette picked the box up and brought it in front of me before opening it. I gasped when I saw the silver necklace; it was shaped like…a lily.
"That is…beautiful," I muttered. "Who is it from?"
"I do not know," Bridgette replied. "From Klaus probably, perhaps he wanted to replace your old silver necklace, it had to be melted."
Bridgette picked the lily necklace up and placed it on my hand. I couldn't help but to admire it, the necklace was beautifully made.
"Would you like to put it on?" Bridgette asked.
I nodded.
"Yes, thank you."
Carefully Bridgette placed the necklace on my neck and hugged me.
"I am so happy that you are alright," she muttered.
I leaned my head on her shoulder and smelled her sweet perfume, the scent really suited her. After few tries I managed to move my arms enough to wrap them around her, although I felt like I wouldn't have any muscles at all.
"Liliya?" Klaus' voice suddenly said from the door.
Bridgette pulled away when he walked next to the bed and stared at me, there was a strange expression on his face.
"Are you alright?"
I looked at him cautiously and nodded, I couldn't help but to startle when he suddenly cupped my face.
"My little sparrow…" he muttered and kissed my forehead. He seemed very relieved and maybe even happy, I wasn't sure. "Let me look at you…"
He wasn't kidding, he really inspected me from head to toes, I was starting to feel quite uncomfortable.
"Do you have pain?" he asked while running his fingers over my knee.
I shook my head.
"No, I am just feeling strange."
"Well, that is understandable; you were unconscious for a while."
"Yes, Bridgette told me," I muttered.
Klaus frowned; it seemed that he hadn't even noticed Bridgette who was standing next to the bed.
"My lord," she said callously and curtsied.
"Perhaps you should go and see if my brother needs your services," Klaus stated coolly and turned back to me. I didn't like the way he was talking to Bridgette, even though she didn't seem to care.
"She is welcome to stay here as long as she wants," I said firmly.
Judging by Klaus' expression he didn't agree, but Bridgette spoke before he managed to say anything.
"I am afraid I must go now, but I will see you again soon," she said and kissed my cheek before walking out.
"Sweetheart," Klaus started tensely. "It is not appropriate for you to spend time with her, I will arrange you some suitable company if that is what you want…"
"No," I snapped. "She is my friend, you cannot…"
"Alright, alright," he said quickly. "Calm down, sweetheart. Let's get you better first, then we can discuss about…other matters."
I glared at him although I was confused, why was he suddenly so nice to me? What had happened when I had been unconscious?
