A/N: Hey everyone. I have another chapter for you. Sorry about the past cliffhanger. I didn't mean to make you sad or cry. I would love to hear your reviews and opinions.
The prayer Dean says is from the Old Testament and its Psalm 23 verses 1-6.
I do not own anything Supernatural. That belongs to Eric Kripke. I only own Caitlyn Winchester and Dr. Mark Matherne.
Please read and review.
Dean's POV
Sam was talking to Mark about her arrangements. He figured he should do it since I wasn't really up for it. This didn't seem real to us at all. I felt like I was in a nightmare and can't wake up.
I sat in the chair next to Caitlyn's lifeless body. I held her cold hand in my warm hand while my free hand was on her forehead. My thumb was rubbing up and down on her skin. I remember doing this when she was sick and I was trying to wake her up so I could give her medicine or when she was in pain. I had never felt this numb since Sam died a couple years back. I was never going to see her smile again or hear her laugh, which made me smile when I thought people weren't looking. A cry muffled out, and kissed her hand.
"Caitlyn," I said, in a hushed cracking voice "I failed you as a brother. I was meant to protect you and Sam, I always thought that you could take care of yourself. This promise I made a promise to myself long time ago that nothing will happen to you, and I can't even do that right." I got up from my seat, and scooted myself onto the bed next her, placing my arms around her. "I am so sorry for what I did to you" I could feel my voice breaking as a tear fell from my eye. I wiped the tear from his face quickly, and kissed Caitlyn's forehead, squeezing my eyes tight as I did. "I didn't mean to hit you. Just come back to me and Sam…please."
I could feel time ticking away and that I was gonna have to let her go, but not until I say this...
"I know I don't believe in God anymore, but I know it's your favorite." I took a deep breath and recited….
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil," I stopped for a moment about what I just said to collect my thoughts, and I continued, "for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Though preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." My voice was beginning to break as my prayer was about to end. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, for ever." I finished my prayer to my sister.
I gave her a kiss on her forehead and laid my head down on her shoulder. Sam came up from behind and gripped my shoulder. I acknowledged he was there by gripping his forearm. I forced himself to get up, while Sam moved in closer to say goodbye to Caitlyn.
"See you later, twin." He placed his hand on the side of her cheek, and placed a kiss on her forehead. He leaned his forehead onto hers. He got up and walked along side me. Bobby and Dr. Matherne were waiting for us at the door.
"I'll let you all know when its okay to pick her up," the doc said, "since you have your own way of doing things."
I nodded with one last look at her, "Yeah, thanks." I motioned my head for us to go.
Each step I took hurt, and I could feel myself breaking. It's just strange to have not the whole gang walk out of a hospital.
We reached the long end of the hallway to the door when we heard a horrific high-pitched scream.
I looked at Sam, and feared that someone was in trouble. Caitlyn would have run after the sound if she heard that too. I wanted to do this for her.
We ran to where the screams for help were coming from. "HELP ME" I heard a woman say.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I found Dr. Matherne soothing my hacking sister.
Caitlyn's alive! I looked at her open scared eyes, she's actually alive. But how, we didn't make a deal and it wasn't from my CPR. I looked over at Sam and Bobby as they wore the same shocked expressions as I did.
Her coughs and gasps for air were sickening to hear, but I couldn't be more happier.
A couple of nurses pushed us aside to help, and the doc took the tube out of her mouth. She was about to vomit when the nurse close to her turned her to the side and helped her.
"DOCTOR!" shouted Sam from the hallway. "WHAT"S HAPPENING?"
"What the hell?" doc asked himself, shocked of what was happening. "Take deep breaths now, Caitlyn." He instructed her. "Come on, breathe in..." He breathed in as my sister tried to mimic him. "and out." she let out a shaky breath. "Nurse, give her a sedative and more morphine stat."
Sam choked out a chuckle as I could feel my heart beat fast. The doc nodded to us, and Sam went into autopilot and ran to his sister's bedside, pulled her up to him very tightly, and cried. I couldn't move. I was looking on as Sam held her tight and she barely gave him a hug. "You okay, sweetheart?" Sam choked out. She started to cry until she fell asleep in Sam's arms. Her head fell back and it scared us, but we were assured by her heart monitor that she was still alive.
"She has a strong pulse, and BP is coming back up." declared Mark.
Sam gently laid her back onto the bed and just cried as he laid his head on her shoulder. I could see his shoulders shake with every cry he let out. Bobby was next to me, patting my arm in reassurance. I leaned my back outside the wall of the room, and I wiped some tears that escaped. And I just covered my face in my hand and just let it out.
She's alive, I kept thinking over and over, she's alive.
A/N: So what did you all think of this chapter? I told you I had a plan, and it was a lot better than I thought it turned out. Caitlyn will have to say goodbye to Chris in the next chapter. But Caitlyn has a lot of recovery to do. The chapter after next will have Crowley in it for 'The Devil You Know' chapter.
Please read and review.
