Summ.
Axel didn't care that his older brother was dating a guy. Until he fell in love with the boyfriend's son. They're engaged to be married, but will the young lovers stand up for their relationship? I mean it's not REALLY incest!
It is written in first person, chapters switching viewpoints from Axel to Roxas. Axel for odd numbered chapters, Roxas for even numbered chapters.
…
I held Roxas for far longer than I thought my heart could bear. Every time I looked upon his troubled face, my chest ached. Why was he always fearful in his dreams? What haunted him?
Of course, this time I knew. I was fully aware of the damage I had done. He was so fragile. It was something about him I used to find enticing. The way he would shy away and force me to play a gentle hand when I took him… I used to feel teased by it, and it got me going. Now, it didn't feel right. Roxas hadn't changed for the better. He was turbulent in his emotions, and dramatic, and sometimes violent.
I put a hand to my still-stinging cheek and thought about it. When he ran away with the intention of punishing Cloud for hurting him… that side of Roxas was frightening. It was almost as if he enjoyed projecting his pain on others. A few other instances came to mind.
"Roxas…" I whispered, brushing some hair from his eyes, "you used to be so beautiful and sweet… what have I done to you?"
He was so delicate… I despairingly looked over his injuries from Reno. Now that the heat of the moment was long past, the bite marks and bruises were suddenly so clear on his beautiful skin. I kissed his pale lips, frowning as they felt cold. He was trapped in his mind for now, fighting his own demons. But…
There was one he didn't need to fight alone anymore.
I placed him gently on the bedsheets, re-clothing him and resting his beautiful head on the pillow. It couldn't go on like this.
I stood resolutely. The thrill of hiding behind closed doors, of taking Roxas as my prize for a stealthy kiss in the shadows, was over. There was nothing thrilling about his pain. There was no excitement in seeing him suffer so much.
I waited until Reno came home, grumbling about how Cloud had made a fuss about rescheduling, then snuck away without him noticing. Those steps toward the door, the car, had never felt so hard. Everything felt unreal. When I reached my destination, my fist slammed against the door. It wasn't even my own force so much as gravity on a heavy object.
The door opened and my eyes met with concerned blue orbs. I don't know what kind of facial expression I had, but it must have made him nervous.
"Axel… um… R-Roxas was with you… at Reno's house… Where is he? Is he alright?" Cloud's eyes grew wider when he saw my arms, having suddenly been reminded of what I'd done to myself. I hadn't put my shirt back on after Roxas forced it off. "Axel, those aren't healing properly…" he whispered sadly.
"We need to talk, Cloud. Can I come in?"
He seemed hesitant. Granted, the last time I'd asked to talk with him it hadn't gone as planned. Nervously, he gestured me into the house, closing the door behind me. Cloud turned around and squeaked as my hands landed firmly on the wall on either side of his head. "Axel, what are you doing?" he whimpered. "Stop… Reno will—"
"Reno did worse than I could ever do to you!" I growled. "There is no excuse for what he did!"
Cloud squirmed, his eyes bright blue windows of confused terror. "Axel, please… calm down…"
"What are you doing right now?"
"I was going to start working… on my computer… Axel, don't…"
"You're beautiful, Cloud. I hope he stays as young and pretty as you are when he grows up…" I reached my hand to caress his cheek, but he grabbed my wrist. I looked at his face.
His eyes were full of tears. "Stop…" he sobbed. "Stop trying to hurt me, Axel. This isn't funny."
"I haven't hurt you. I don't intend to."
"THEN WHY!?" he bawled. "Why do you keep trying to tempt me? I'm too old for you, and I love Reno! Stop trying to ruin my one chance at love since I lost her—!"
My eyes grew wide. Cloud let go of my wrist and collapsed, sobbing, against my chest.
"I never forgave myself… Roxas would have a mother if I had only been able to stop her… She hated me, but I loved her so much! I still do, and she's been gone for thirteen years! But every day I—" he couldn't choke out the rest of the sentence. "I love her… but Reno finally gave me hope that I could love someone again, and now you're standing between us for no reason!"
"Cloud—"
"Axel, you already have something that Reno doesn't and it kills me inside. You have Roxas. I tried so hard to force Roxas to get along with Reno, because I don't want to choose between loving Roxas and loving your brother. Roxas is all I have left of her—"
I growled again. Reno betrayed both Cloud AND Roxas. Cloud didn't know what Reno did, I could hear it in his tone. He just wanted Roxas to accept Reno as his father, and Reno just wants… "Cloud, come upstairs."
Cloud resisted half-heartedly, but I got him to his bedroom. I sat Cloud on the bed and took a seat beside him. He sighed, looking at me. "Axel… Reno is my only hope of moving on from Roxas' mother. I want to go forward and leave the past as a sad memory, but… Roxas doesn't want Reno around. I just want Roxas to come to terms with the fact that it hurts me to sit alone thinking about his mother every single night. I've done that since the day she died. Reno isn't a shadow of a memory like she is! He's REAL! I love him! Why can't Roxas just accept that?!"
"Cloud, stop crying!" I snapped.
He wiped his eyes but tears kept falling. "I can't…"
"He RAPED him!" I roared, my voice booming against the walls. "I will NEVER forgive him!"
Cloud fell silent and still, fear in his eyes once more.
"If he weren't my brother, I would kill him… no… he's not even my brother anymore…" I thrust a finger accusingly at Cloud. "If he weren't your fuck-buddy, I would kill him!"
He winced at my jab.
"He took the one I love… the one love I've ever had! That bastard took everything from me and didn't even have the nerve to tell you!"
"What are you talking about? You were seeing someone? And… are you accusing Reno of cheating on me?"
My fist was clenched so tight that my nails dug into my palm. "He took him… my beautiful Roxas was defiled and hurt by my own brother!"
Time stopped.
The name had slipped too soon.
I had gotten furious just thinking about what Reno had done that I let it slip. I'd meant to sit Cloud down and tell him that I was in love with Roxas, and that nothing could stop me from seeing him… but seeing Cloud cry over Roxas and Reno not getting along had made me snap.
"I love Roxas. I love him and Reno hurt him! He took my angel, my delicate Roxas… he's in pain… That sweet face twists in pain when I touch him now. He's covered in bite marks, bruises, and hickeys just like the one on your neck."
Cloud flinched, brushing a finger over the red spot on his neck. "Did… did you say… you love Roxas? My son? You were… together?"
I sighed internally. At least the Reno question wasn't brought up first. "Y-yes… Roxas… Roxas and I have been together… for awhile…"
"How long has this been going on?" he almost hissed.
"A week after we met is as good an estimate as any…"
"All that time? But you—" he couldn't seem to find the words to express his confusion. However, it suddenly didn't matter, as my accusations hit full-force. "Reno… did what?"
I winced slightly. "He… he had sex… with Roxas…" my fist slammed the bedpost so hard that the wooden pole cracked. "THAT BASTARD FUCKED MY ROXAS!"
Cloud visibly broke. No words could do justice to what I saw in his eyes. It was as if all the life shattered like glass pelted by rocks. Confusion fell away in shards to reveal despair. "How could you make up such a thing?" his eyes filled with tears of rage. "What would possess you to tell a lie like that? Reno loves me! He would never—"
"I have no reason to lie about this, Cloud! It kills me inside to have been betrayed by both of them. I've forgiven Roxas… his injuries are enough of a punishment… and at least he confessed. Reno hasn't said anything to you! Has he even batted an eyelash when you said Roxas' name? What about when he got you into bed?"
"SHUT UP! Don't accuse him of this! He could never cheat on me! He loves me, he loves Roxas, he wants to be a family!"
"Maybe he did, maybe he does… Roxas' injuries don't lie. Or are you saying you'd believe your own hope over the word of your son?"
I saw him crack again. "He has no reason to… to do that… He has no reason to cheat on me! I've never given him a reason to cheat! Why would he even… And— Roxas—" his voice shook. "Why Roxas? Why my baby…?"
"Reno… always puts sex before judgement… he even got smashed and tried to kiss me once… Roxas asked him to do it… but Reno was rough and hurt him! He didn't even say no!"
"What do you mean Roxas asked… Roxas would never…" his voice cracked. "WHEN? When was this?!"
At his sudden urgency, I leaned back. "A… a few days ago? Two days…?"
His eyes grew dark and despairing again. "Was this the only time?"
"Yes… It damn well have been…"
"Then you—! You took it!" he pointed at me, his eyes filling with tears. "Didn't you…?" he whimpered, taking my hand.
I blinked slowly. "Took… what…?"
"His virginity! You've… you took… you've slept with him… with my son… You… was it with you?"
I lurched back. "This isn't about me and—! I mean… yes… I… Roxas and I were… yeah…"
"It was you… you were the one…" he sobbed, a tone of relief despite his despair. "Thank God… At least I know you would have been gentle to him… Unlike—"
"Reno."
"Xemnas."
I shook his shoulders. "This is about Reno! Stop changing the subject! Xemnas is gone now!"
He winced but didn't reply. My hands still on his shoulders, I pushed him back, pinning him down onto the bed. He had tears in his bright blue eyes as he looked up at me. My chest ached like my ribcage was being torn open. Those eyes that looked so much like Roxas'. That silent plea on his face for me to stop. No words escaped Cloud's lips. Was this the look Roxas gave my brother? When his voice failed him, did he beg Reno for mercy with the pain in his eyes?
"Cloud… I'm sorry," I loosened my grip on his shoulders, which I realized I'd been clutching in my rage. My hands brushed his hair from his face as I stood. Cloud closed his eyes, his arms coming up to wipe some of the tears away, but they continued to roll down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry. It's just… Roxas is injured and alone in—"
My voice stopped. The realization brought my vocal chords to a grinding halt. Cloud sat up and looked at me, confusion misting over his somber eyes.
Somehow, I unfroze. The words choked out from behind the lump in my throat, "and alone in the apartment with Reno…"
