Chapter 36
Swamp Fever: Finale?
Third Person POV
When the morning came, and everyone had finally woken up, Dee knew one thing:
They shouldn't have used the good rope to tie up the pee girl.
Namely since it now was now in frayed pieces all over the floor. Didn't that brat know how hard it was to find good rope that wasn't destroyed or covered in bodily fluids?
The Alpha growled loudly, "Find her!"
"How did she get out?" Ellis sat up, grabbing his gun and turning to the door. "I tied those ropes myself last night. She shouldn't have gotten out without being a contortionist 'er somethin'."
"Or she had help." Nick got up as well, ushering the group out.
"I'll see if I can find her from up here." Cas grabbed her rifle and taking it to the balcony. She rested the weapon on the railing, and, upon looking down the scope, quickly found what she was looking for. "She's by the radio outside."
"What the hell is she doing by the radio?"
"Let's go ask her." Gamma muttered, lowering himself and pouncing out the door.
"I'll keep an eye on her movements. See if I can find a pattern." Cas turned the safety off.
"Deal." The Alpha growled, slipping out the door.
"Don't keep me waiting, babe." The sniper chuckled, turning back to the scope. "She's moved into the hedge maze."
Soon, everyone had moved out of the room except Coach, who had chosen against roaming around in lue of staying behind to protect the only sniper.
"Over here!" Beta grinned.
The pee girl hopped over the pile of bricks, coughing at the dust caused by it. The hunter in the red hoodie hopped over said bricks, barely missing her before she turned the corner, blatantly disappearing from sight.
The hunter growled and turned to follow, finding the girl lighting, and throwing, a pipe bomb away from her. Iggy yelped before the bomb went off a few seconds later, ducking back into the plantation house.
"She's back in here, guys!" Cas shouted, pulling away from the balcony, "I'll get her."
"Whoa!" Coach shouted as the girl passed him.
"Sorry to pass through, little busy." She offered, reaching into her pockets, "Have you seen my back pack lying around perhaps?"
"Get back here!" The sniper moved to follow her.
"Wait!" Iggy stopped and neared the sniper carefully.
Cas paused a second, looking at her before nearing her for a second.
And she was right to be cautious as the girl raised her hands and pulled open a confetti popped in Cas's face, blinding her with little shards of paper and a semi-loud noise.
"The hell?!" Cas staggered back.
"Sorry!" Iggy picked up the pipe bombs and a moltov that the group had scrounged out the day before, "I didn't mean to pop it so close to your face!"
"Why did you pop it at all!"
"Like you were gonna let me take the pipe bombs and the moltov without it."
"Well she's got a point." Coach offered.
"Grab her!"
"If a hunter hybrid can't, what makes you think I can?"
"You're twice their size."
"Excuse me, I'll be going now." Iggy cut in.
"Wait, no!" Cas turned back to the girl.
"If you trust me, shoot the tanks near the gate."
With that, Iggy took down the stairs, narrowly avoiding Gamma leaping at her.
"If I trust you, what's that supposed to mean?" Cas shook herself back to raising the rifle.
She moved back to the balcony and looked back down the scope of her gun. She glanced around, tilting the gun and moving it. It only halfway surprised her that there weren't any tanks at the gate. Propane or kool aid men alike.
Dakota was now the closest one to Iggy, sniffing the air and waiting in the trees. Ellis was on the ground behind her, gunning down nearing infected that had popped outta no where. Rochelle and Nick were off to the left, busily fighting off their own horde of infected. Out to the right were Gamma and Beta, Beta messily taking down a boomer that had wandered a little too close.
Cas was brought back to the left with the sound of a pipe bomb exploding. A spray of body parts and blood splattered the ground around Nick and Rochelle, earning a confused shout from the two of them.
"Got 'er!" Ellis called out, one hand on his rifle and his other around Iggy's upper arm.
"You'll hafta excuse me, I'm busy," She smiled before twisting out of his grip and taking off down the path again.
"Oh come on!"
"Sorry!"
Cas kept her sights on the pee girl, watching her move from area to area, picking things up and taking them somewhere else in the yard. She was moving in a pattern, only changing it when someone got too close to her.
It really caught her eye when she noticed that Iggy had grabbed a propane tank.
So that's what she meant. She was running around on purpose.
After three more pipe bombs, four escapes, and a moltov thrown off to the side, four propane tanks were set beside the garden's gate.
Iggy took off back down the center path towards the sniper's perch. She waved her hands at Cas, shouting down the way.
"Cas shoot them!" She cried.
"Beta grab her!" The sniper shouted.
He did so, pouncing on her and letting his weight fall on her, pinning her to the ground.
The rest of the team moved to gather around Beta, Nick grabbing the girl's wrists and holding them together.
"Hope you're done now. Because one more wrong move and your insides are gonna be seeing the light of day." Dakota growled loudly.
"Y'all need to get to the docks." Iggy simply stated in reply. "Virgil's gonna be waiting for you in about a minute so you need to hurry before a tank or somethin ' shows up."
"And why should we believe that?" Dee narrowed her eyes.
"Because why the hell do you think I was at the radio earlier? Changing the channel?"
"Look, ladies, yer both pretty. Even if she's telling the truth how're we gonna get through the gate?" Rochelle took to reloading her gun.
"Already set that up."
Dee growled slightly.
"Cas, shoot the stupid tanks!" Iggy shouted up to her.
"Why?!" Came the sniper's response.
"Do you freakin' trust me?"
Cas raised the barrel of the rifle, aiming it at said barrels. There had to be a reason the stupid pee girl would risk being shot at, pounced on, and ripped apart to put those in place.
Right?
"Back up! " Cas shouted before pulling back the trigger.
Without question or surprise the bullet set off the explosive force that ended in a chain reaction explosion of the surrounding propane tanks.
What was surprising, however, was the fact that the blast was just enough force to blow open the gate past the rubble behind and in front of it.
"Oh shit!" Someone from the group cried. Cas couldn't exactly figure out who it was from the distance between them, but she had a feeling it was probably Nick or Ellis.
Coach nodded to her as they pulled away from the balcony and headed down the stairs. They met up with everyone, and they all came to a collective agreement that they needed to head to the docks. Now.
"The boat's here!" Cas heard Coach bellow loudly, "Everybody to the boat!"
After that it was a swarm of common infected that surrounded them. It wasn't hard for the the pack, namely the leader's pent up anger of the pee girl's antics, to take them down.
Nick pulled Iggy along with him as they ran to the docks. When he let go, now that he wouldn't be able to tell you. But when the group had eventually made onto the deck of the boat that was waiting for them, that was at least when he noticed.
"Everyone here?" Rochelle caught her breath.
"Pee girl isn't." The gambler looked over the boat's side.
He quickly found her picking herself up off the dock.
"I say we leave her." Dee said.
"We can't just leave her to die." Cas interjected.
"And why not? She's been nothing but trouble."
"Because we can't!"
"Everyone is here and we are ready to go, let's jus-"
Before any more of the conversation could continue, the hunter in red jumped over the side of the boat and back onto the docks. It took less than two minutes for him to return with the pee girl in tow.
Beta deposited the girl and crawled over to Cas. He purred a moment before nuzzling into her chest.
Iggy took a few deep breaths and relaxed against the side of the boat's cabin.
The pack leader shot her a look before she winced in pain from her side. She took the pills Ellis held out for her before sitting down.
Well, Dakota mused, at least everyone was alive.
Yeah, at least they had that.
"Did you forget about us, little Alpha?"
Shit.
