Remembering Trust
But if you ever fall down straight to the bottom
And you can't get back where you started
Any place any time,
You gotta know for you, I'll fight
I'll Fight- Daughtry
"Don't trust him, trust me!" Eddie remembers shouting to KT, during the swirling of Ammut's wind. He remembers Robert, evil Robert, trying to convince KT not to turn the keys. Nevertheless, Eddie, with KT, used them to lock Ammut in the underworld.
It was all coming back to him now, as he slowly sat up from being on the cold, stone concrete of his least favorite room in the whole world.
The room in which his dad's, best friend's, and girlfriend's souls were kept, for weeks without him being able to do anything. It was probably the worst torture he'd ever been through, not being able to be the hero he wanted to be.
But as he looked up to the sarcophagi, he noticed a clear general outline of a face staring back at him. Not the faces of the people he's come to know.
They were empty.
He had been the hero he was destined to be, the one everyone needed.
He saved them.
His body filled with excitement as he jumped up and put a hand on the empty sarcophagus, a smile spreading across his face. "We did it!" He shouted to KT, who had just had a rather sappy chat with her great-grandfather.
She smiled as well, and engulfed her friend in a hug.
"We have to go find them!" Eddie said excitedly, as he darted for the door.
"Wait!" KT called, stopping him. "What about my great grandfather? He can't get back on his own."
"I'll take care of it," Harriet butted in, "You did good today, go find your friends." After she sent them one last smile, the two took off running.
"You think they'll be at the school?" KT asked, while trying to keep up with Eddie.
"Most definitely," he said, running faster. He needed to see Patricia. He was desperate to finally just get to see her again.
"Eddie could you slow down?!" KT shouted, sounding like she was pretty far behind. Eddie almost stopped so she could catch up, but then he saw an auburn head of curls in the distance.
Patricia was completely overwhelmed. It was like she had been asleep, and then all of a sudden she was at school, writing on the walls in the middle of a destroyed hallway.
All of the others were just as confused as she was, nobody could remember anything. Nobody even knew how long had they even been... gone? Asleep? She didn't even know what to call it.
She needed some air, and had decided to walk back to the house, thinking maybe something there could help her remember. But just as the house came into view, she heard a familiar voice.
"YACKER!"
She whirled around to see Eddie, running as fast as he possibly could towards her. Before she knew it, she was being crushed under his arms, and spun around in the air.
"I missed you," Eddie whispered, setting her down, but not letting go. Right as he was about to kiss her, however, she pushed him away.
"Get off me Slimeball!"
Eddie just looked at her, his face leaving traces of shock and confusion. "What's wrong?"
She felt her eyes start to water, but she held the glistening tears back as some memories started to return.
That day, however long ago it was, was making its way through to her, all of it: The messages, the tears, the lying. She didn't even know which was the worst, being cheated on, becoming one of those girls she swore she would never be, or the fact that Eddie had lied straight to her face about the whole thing.
"You- you don't remember?" He whispered, in complete disbelief.
Meanwhile, KT had finally caught up to them, to see 'tough-cookie' Patricia was... crying?
No, not quite, but she definitely was on the verge of doing so, so she decided to go around them, continuing to the school, in hopes of finding her other friends.
"Remember what?! You cheating on me?!" She paused to swallow back more tears, taking in the hurt look on his face. She was done crying, especially for him. "No need to worry, Edison, 'cause I sure won't forget it."
"Patricia, you don't understand," Eddie desperately called, grabbing her hand to try to stop her from running away. He was so shocked that she didn't remember anything that had happened over the past few days, even though she wasn't exactly living it.
Either way, he wasn't about to lose her again.
"Go away," she said through gritted teeth.
Eddie took a deep breath. "This is going to sound ridiculous, okay, but you have to believe me: I didn't do it."
The look on her face was now full of disgust. "So now you're lying again?"
"No!" He said, frustrated. "Patricia, it was Denby! She took my laptop and planted them there. I've already explained this to you, but... but you don't remember because... you were a sinner."
Patricia searched his face for any signs of lying, but much to her surprise, there were none.
Eddie took a step closer to her, cautiously, seeing as she had calmed down a tad. "Right after you saw the messages, you ran out. Frobisher must have captured you on the way out, taking you to the gatehouse... just like my vision predicted," he trailed off, coming to the realization himself.
"Oh my God," she breathed out, eyes widening. She remembered now: Robert jumping from the bushes as she walked back to the house. With her attention on wiping the tears that blurred her vision, he was able to grab her and drag her to the gatehouse, only to meet Denby waiting there, ready to shove her into the sarcophagus.
It was a genius plan, and she had been fooled.
"I- I'm so sorry..." Eddie heard her mutter, as he pulled her back into his arms. This time she didn't fight it, and he smiled, enjoying the feeling of having her back.
But Patricia couldn't enjoy the feeling, she was too caught up in the fact that she had caused them so much trouble. "It's all my fault! I could've gotten away, I could've stopped it all from happening! I'm so stupid! I could've just-"
She didn't have time to finish, however, because Eddie had smashed his lips to hers. The need to feel the connection again, and to shut her up, had taken over, and the anger and hurt from both of their past week's experiences were being poured into each other.
When Eddie pulled away, he looked into her blue-green eyes, smiling to himself when he saw that the sparkle was back. "It wasn't your fault, so let's just forget about that okay?" She nodded, and quickly brought her lips to his again. She didn't realize how much she'd missed being able to do so.
Patricia wouldn't let their little moment last too long though. For one, it was too cliché, but she also needed to know something.
"Eddie?"
"Hmm?"
"I.. Uh... want- no, need to know what happened, you know, while I was gone."
Eddie was hesitant to respond. "I don't think that's the best idea..."
"Why not? I can handle it, Weasel." She said, smirking up at him.
"Well... If you insist."
"I did all of that? I didn't know I was that smart..."
"Me either," Eddie teased, earning a smack on the arm. "I'm kidding. But hey, it doesn't matter now. Me and KT took care of it."
"You and KT," Patricia said mockingly.
"Oh not this again, we're just friends Patricia," Eddie said trying to reassure her that she was the only one he wanted. "I'm a one girl guy remember? You're the girl." Her response was just a confused look.
"Oh... right," He muttered.
"Well... if the messages weren't you, then what about the rest? Like the love letter? The phone call?"
"That letter must've been Denby too... and you mean the phone call on our date? Yacker that was my mom." Eddie said laughing.
"You idiot! Why didn't you just tell me?"
"Because," he started, intertwining his fingers with hers, "She was so excited we got back together, so much that it scared me, so I knew it would scare you. I mean isn't that why you broke up with me? Because you thought things were moving too fast?"
Patricia eyed him carefully. "How'd you know?"
"I figured it out eventually, considering I never really did anything wrong," he teased.
"Well I wouldn't go that far," she smirked before getting up off the bench they had chosen to sit on. "But now let's go back to the house, apparently I haven't eaten in days."
Eddie followed her without hesitation. He was just happy to have her back to herself, along with everyone else. The night went exactly as planned, full of freshly popped popcorn and kisses by the fireworks, letting Eddie know that no matter what happened, they would be okay...
Even if a crazy student using the elixir of life tried to sacrifice him on the day of their graduation.
