CH 37 Endings and Beginnings
Thank you FriendofMolly for the chapter title and several important additions and clarifications.
Ginny went to the Ministry the next morning with Harry. As she was walking in she saw Lavender Brown sitting at a desk that was surrounded by three modest size walls. Lavender looked like she was in pain.
"How are you, Lavender?" Ginny asked.
"I'm fine," Lavender said.
"You are not fine, Lavender," Ginny replied. She pulled up a chair and sat down next to Lavender. "I can see the pain in your face."
"All right, dammit, I hurt," Lavender said. "I've been in pain ever since Fenrir Greyback attacked me!"
"I'm sorry," Ginny said. "Is there anything anyone can do to help?"
"My parents have been all over the world trying to find help for me, but nothing has worked. All that I'm living for is to capture that monster!" Lavender sighed. Ginny reached for Lavender's hand. Lavender offered one. "It doesn't hurt if someone holds that hand," Lavender said. "It feels good to finally touch another human being."
"You should encourage your friends to touch you," Ginny said.
"What friends," Lavender said. "Maybe I've driven then all away, but I really don't have any friends. The loneliness is as bad as the pain. Do you have any girlfriends at the Harpies, Ginny?"
"Yes. I sort of like all the Harpies, but I do have a couple of special friends," Ginny said. "The woman I was sure I would hate has become one of my best friends. Don't you have any friends outside of the Aurors?"
"I made too many enemies of my witch classmates by trying to attract too many wizards. None of the wizards like me now because I am ugly. I just don't have anyone to talk to!"
"I've been sort of busy with Quidditch, but I will talk to you, and listen to you, if I have the time."
"That's the trouble, Ginny. No one has any time for poor old Lavender. I'm just terribly lonely."
Dennis Creevey appeared and said, "Ginny, could you talk to Wanda some more? She has been asking for you. She just doesn't trust anyone else. We don't think she really did anything wrong, but we need to talk more to her to make sure."
Ginny turned to Lavender and said, "I will try to see you later, Lavender."
Ginny followed Dennis to his desk. Dennis said, "We have a list of questions we would like answered. We are sure Wanda does not know all the answers, but getting answers to any of these would help. Then we want to transfer her to a safe house where she is guarded, for her own safety,"
"How is Lavender?" asked Ginny.
"I'm really worried about her, Ginny," Dennis said. "We all think she is very depressed, and no one has been able to befriend her. It doesn't help that we have been short-handed, and most of us are honestly very busy. We have a number of loners here, people who have been hurt physically or emotionally. I'm a little worried about Cho Chang too. She is alone way too much, acting as our Third Shift supervisor and working lots of extra hours."
Ginny and Dennis went over all that Dennis wanted to find out from Wanda. Ginny and Wanda had lunch together, and Ginny was able to encourage Wanda to go to a safe house and even go there with her.
By the middle of the afternoon Ginny was back at the Ministry. She looked for Lavender, but she was gone. She found Harry in his office.
"We got Wanda to the safe house," Ginny said. "That's where Gus lives too. I hope Wanda is safe and doesn't get charged with any crime. I don't think she would have done anything wrong except that living with Harold she really didn't have much of a choice."
"Thank you for your help with Wanda, Ginny," Harry said.
"I'm worried about Lavender Brown, Harry," Ginny said.
"We all are," Harry said. "I've got a few loners, and I don't like it. They take risks because they don't have anyone, and they don't have anyone to share troubles with."
"What's next for us?" Ginny asked.
"San Francisco next year, if you will go with me," Harry said.
"I meant today, Harry," Ginny said.
"We really ought to go over to see Pansy and Tracy," Harry said.
"Where are they?" Ginny asked.
Harry said "Both are at home. We are going to Pansy's first."
They apparated to the Parkinson home. Ginny had never been there. Harry, Ginny, their two guards and Dobedo all appeared at the front door. When Harry knocked a house elf opened the door.
"We are here to check on Pansy, to see if she needs anything," Harry said.
"Poor Miss Pansy, poor Miss Pansy," the house elf said as he led them into the house. He led the group upstairs to a bedroom. He knocked, and said, "I tell Mrs. Carmalla you here."
A short time later a voice Harry recognized as Carmalla Capper, Pansy's great grandmother, said, "Harry and Ginny can come in. Please leave everyone else out in the hall."
Harry and Ginny walked into what appeared to be Pansy's bedroom. Pansy was hiding under the covers. There were stuffed snakes at each corner of the bed, and they could see a stuffed dragon peering out from the covers. Pansy was obviously trying to hide under the covers, and was shaking, clearly terrified.
"Dragon protect me gram … gram ... drag …Oh, Oh," Pansy said.
"Carmalla said, "These are friends, Pansy."
"No friends, just hurt," Pansy said. "SSSSSnakes, ssstay away! Snakes bite you!"
"They are just friends from school," Carmalla said in a gentle, calm voice.
"NO! NO! No friends," Pansy shouted, and then, in a small voice so low you could hardly hear it, "Just hurt. Just hurt. Just hurt."
Everybody waited a few minutes as Pansy hid, shaking. Finally Carmalla did a spell, and Pansy seemed to calm down. The bedding slipped from her and she seemed to be sedated. She was obviously very pregnant.
Carmalla said, "The baby seems to be in good enough health, and Pansy is not physically harmed. Mentally, emotionally, she has been severely wounded. The healers are over here every day. They do think that it is better if Pansy stays here. Someone from the family is always here. During the day my husband or I are usually here, mostly me."
"Is there anything we can do to help Pansy?" Harry asked.
"St. Mungo's is doing all they can," Carmalla said. "They are even bringing in specialists from other countries. Time will tell if anything will help Pansy. I saw all the damage people from the previous war, but Peter and Priscilla did not. They are very upset. You had better talk to them."
Ginny went over to Carmalla and gave her a hug. Ginny patted Pansy's hand, trying to help with a little healing touch. Carmalla acknowledged Ginny by hugging her back after Ginny had touched Pansy. The two women were close to tears. Harry went over to support Ginny, and talk to Carmalla.
"I'm just so sorry we could not rescue the girls sooner, Mrs. Capper," Harry said.
"Peter's furious," Carmalla said.
Harry and Ginny stayed a little while, trying to support Carmalla just by their presence.
Eventually Harry and Ginny took their leave of Pansy and Carmalla, and the entourage went over to the workshop to talk to Peter and Priscilla Parker. When they walked into the workshop Peter walked right up to Harry and said, "THIS WAS ALL A PLOT BY THE MERLIN BLASTED HARRY POTTER AND BILL WEASLEY TO ROB MY FAMILY. I WANT MY DAUGHTER BACK AND I WANT MY BUSINESS BACK."
Ginny was horrified by this attack. Harry seemed to take it in stride, however, saying, "I know that Bill delivered a receipt for Galleons that would have paid half of the ransom the day after Pansy was rescued, accumulated earnings. You are going to be making more money, and have more assets, than the family has ever had. Don't complain that you have business partners that are making you rich!"
"I'm not the boss, and these half Muggle half magic people with their crazy ideas are driving me crazy! It's just not right. And you spend half of the last years not rescuing Pansy but fooling around with Muggle ideas. Now Pansy is ruined, and it's your fault."
Harry calmly replied, "It was a partly Muggle machine that allowed us to get through the wards and rescue Pansy and Tracy."
Peter responded, "You are no better than that smug, married to a Veela, son of a boggart, brother-in-law of yours. You are too smart and smug for your own good. BASTARD!
"Ginny," Harry said, "we ought to leave and see Tracy." He could see Ginny's temper rising, and he knew he had to get Ginny out of there as quickly as possible.
Ginny had her hand on her wand, and she was contemplating Bat Bogey Hexing Peter Parkinson, or worse. Peter's attack on Harry had her furious! When they were outside the workshop, Ginny asked, "Is Peter always like that?"
"Sometimes he's worse," Harry said. "Bill has a couple of people who work for him that can talk with Peter, but he's a hard person to reason with. The anger is always just at the surface, waiting to explode."
"He cannot be an easy person to work for," Ginny said.
"That's why he is no longer the boss, and not being the boss is driving him crazy," Harry said. "I'm happy to leave Peter in Bill's capable hands, but we probably ought to try and check up on Pansy occasionally. Let's see if Tracy is any better."
The entourage went back into the Parkinson house and took the floo to The Hogs Head. To everybody's surprise Tracy greeted them. She was dressed in a rather revealing waitress outfit, obviously also very pregnant.
"Tracy, what are you doing here?" asked Ginny.
"Helping my cousin Roger," Tracy said with a wave of her hand. "A lot of people want to talk to one of the rescued girls. The Hogs' Head has had a fantastic day since we announced that I was going to be the waitress." The room was rather full, and Penelope and Rodger were both helping with the customers. Tracy jiggled some coins that seemed to be in a coin purse between her breasts. "Tips are pretty good too! The women feel sorry for me, and the guys like looking at what I have on top because I'm pregnant."
"But Pansy?" Ginny questioned.
"She was losing it when I got there," Tracy said. "She had lost all her fight. Just lay there on the bed and let those bastards abuse her."
"I kicked Aedan Avery, the old bastard, in the balls so hard I think I injured them. He never tried to rape me again. That left both of the Lestrange brothers, Harold White, the mean SOB, and Merwyn Mulciber abusing us. They had to tie my hands and feet to do it."
"They all raped you?" Ginny asked, astonished.
"Every Merlin damn boggart one of them," Tracy said. "If I had my way I would visit every one of them once a week and hit them where it hurts the most, over and over, until they begged for mercy. Every week they could look forward to being abused by me."
"What are you going to do now?" asked Harry.
"Rodger and Penelope say I can stay here," Tracy said. "Penelope is pregnant, and we can raise our children together.
"I contacted Terence Higgs as soon as I got out, but he married someone else. That's not the worse part, though. He said that because I was raped I WAS RUINED. LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT! He said no self-respecting wizard would want me."
"THAT'S NOT TRUE!" Ginny yelled. "I know someone who was raped, publicly humiliated, and ended up in a fantastic marriage!" Ginny was thinking of Fleur, and wondered if she could get Fleur to talk to Tracy.
"Can I get everybody something to drink?" Tracy asked. "I don't make any money standing here talking. Have dinner here. Give me a big tip so I can raise my poor fatherless child."
Rodger was with the group by this time. He said, "Tracy has never been particularly subtle. She is right; she's been good for business, at least today. I hope it keeps up."
Harry paid for a large dinner for everybody. He gave Tracy a generous tip too.
Ginny was able to talk to Tracy when she wasn't busy with customers, and encouraged her to get some help. They talked a bit about Wanda White. Finally Ginny said, "I am going to see Wanda tomorrow. Would you like to come along?"
Tracy said, "I would. I'm glad Harold is dead! Wanda deserves someone nicer than that miserable excuse for a man. I ought to at least thank her for being nice to me."
That night Ginny told Harry, "I really want to get back to the Harpies, but I promised Wanda and Lavender that I would see them. I told Tracy she could come along with me when we visited Wanda. I don't know what I should be doing right now."
Harry said, "Maybe you could see them in the morning and then practice in the afternoon."
Harry got a good night sleep, but Ginny had a harder time relaxing.
Wednesday morning Ginny went with Harry to the Ministry again. She headed straight for Lavender's desk. Lavender was there.
"Are you feeling any better?" Ginny asked Lavender.
"No, why should I?" Lavender said. "The physical pain never goes away."
"Are you getting closer to catching Fenrir Greyback?" Ginny asked.
"I think so," Lavender said. "I need to go and check on some leads this morning."
Lavender looked at Ginny, and Ginny could see sorrow and pain in her eyes. Lavender said, "I thought it would feel good when we captured Greyback. Now I'm not so sure if it will feel good or even a victory. I'm tired of living."
Ginny said, "Lavender, when Greyback is captured please get in touch with me. We will find some relief for you!"
"You will be back playing Quidditch," Lavender said. "It's not your fault that I'm miserable and in pain."
"Just ask and I'll come and talk to you," Ginny said.
"Thank you for the offer," Lavender said. "I really need to be going."
Ginny felt just awful after this exchange.
Ginny talked to a couple of people about Wanda, and then went to see her. "Do you mind if I bring Tracy Davis over to meet with you?" asked Ginny.
"Anything you want," said Wanda. Wanda looked resigned to doing anything Ginny wanted, although she had made it very clear that she trusted Ginny and really did not trust anyone in the DMLE (Department of Magical Law Enforcement).
Ginny came out of the floo at the Hogs Head just before ten in the morning. Tracy was waiting on tables, but there was only a small crowd. Penelope said, "You can go with Ginny, Tracy. I can take care of these tables."
"Needs to give Miss Tracy a tip," one inebriated man said, waving a couple of Galleons.
Tracy went over and let the man drop the Galleons into her cleavage. She told the patron, "Look all you want, but no touching!"
Tracy headed for the stairs, saying as she went, "Come on up, Ginny. I want to change." Tracy led Ginny into a third floor room. The room had its own sink and loo, and already had a few of Tracy's things in it. "We are going to add a fourth floor for the family," Tracy said. "It will be big enough to let the children have their own rooms. If Penelope has more than one we will probably add another floor."
Ginny asked, "What are your plans for the future, Tracy? What would you like?"
"I was planning on marrying Terence Higgs," Tracy said. "Dragons burned that idea to a crisp. Can't really blame Terence for thinking I would probably not escape, but saying I was RUINED because I was RAPED! I'll never forget or forgive that remark."
"It's probably too early to make any plans," Ginny said.
"Let's go! I want to be back for the lunch crowd," Tracy said.
The meeting with Wanda went well. It went well enough that Ginny thought she could leave Wanda and Tracy to talk to each other and go back to Harpies training. Ginny spent the afternoon at the Harpies. She ate dinner with the team, but went back to Grimmauld Place so she could accompany Harry to the Ministry Wednesday morning.
Wednesday morning Ginny went back to the Ministry with Harry.
There was a lot of work for Harry and his team trying to figure out what the witches and wizards that were living with the Lestrange brothers were doing. It was not surprising that the Lestrange brothers were not cooperating at all. It almost looked like they had been cursed to not tell anything. There was more cooperation from others. The team let everyone know that the more cooperation they got the better chance they had avoiding prison or serving reduced prison terms.
Burly and Belinda Rosier were especially anxious to avoid prison time. They wanted to go back home with their children. Wanda White was very cooperative but not very helpful. Any information she had was pretty common knowledge.
Ginny went to Lavender's desk right away. She found Lavender getting ready to leave. "I have to help interrogate a prisoner, Ginny," Lavender said. "I will be back at my desk late this afternoon."
"I'm trying to get back to the Harpies," Ginny said. "Let me see when I can get here again."
"Don't worry about me," Lavender said. Ginny saw sorrow and pain in Lavender's eyes and posture, and felt bad that she couldn't promise to be there for her.
Ginny took the floo to The Hog's Head about nine. It was ten before the breakfast rush was over and Tracy felt she could leave. Tracy and Wanda met with a healer from St. Mungo's and an Auror. Both of the women wanted the DMLE to have any useful information they could remember. Gus met with them part of the time as well. Gus was apparently talking to Wanda quite a bit when no one else was around. No one felt that Ginny needed to keep accompanying Tracy to meet with Wanda.
Ginny got back to the Harpies in time for lunch with the Harpies. She spent the next twenty four hours there, including Wednesday evening and night.
Harry called about noon Thursday asking if Ginny could meet with Neville, and Ginny agreed.
Thursday September 11, late in the morning, Neville came to the Ministry and had a meeting with Harry and Gawain. He told them about his parents. Then he said, "I would like to work at Hogwarts full time. They have asked me to work with professor Sprout. Rose Sprout is three, and Aster Sprout is one, and Pomona is pregnant again. Pomona and her husband Perry seem intent on popping children out every other year, and she needs more help. Perry is a great gardener and even an acceptable assistant, but he's no teacher.
"I will still work with the Dumbledore's Army club, and I want to keep up my Auror's training, but my heart is in teaching."
Harry and Gawain agreed to Neville's request.
At the end of the meeting Neville said, "I need to talk to you and Ginny alone, Harry. Could we meet this afternoon?"
Harry agreed, and called Ginny. Ginny agreed to meet at the Ministry as soon as she was through with the team lunch.
Neville and Hannah met with Harry and Ginny in a secure room at the Ministry. Neville sealed the room and then had everybody do privacy spells. Then Neville said, "Our world is changing, Harry. Apparently you two, Harry and Ginny, are right at the heart of it.
"There are many in the magical community that does not want change. That includes Dementors, who are furious that you are banning them from prisons and from giving the Dementors Kiss. It includes many old fashion beings, not only witches and wizards, who want things to stay the same. The prophets are very concerned for both of your safety. Please keep traveling with guards, and be careful.
Ginny, they are especially worried about your safety."
"Why am I so important?" Ginny asked.
"You are prophesied to bear the next chief wizard, Ginny," Neville said. "You cannot become a mother if you are dead or seriously wounded."
"They probably want me to give up Quidditch," Ginny said.
"They would feel better if you were not in a game where people were hitting bludgers at your head," Neville said.
"Bollox and Boggarts!" Ginny exclaimed.
"I guess there are four very important wands," Neville said. "The Elves, not house elves but High Elves, have one. I think the High Elves are sort of what house elves were. Anyway, they are supposed to have one wand, and the Goblins or male High Elves another. Everybody was a little evasive about everything. Sometime they talk as if house elves and Goblins are almost the same, and at other times they insist they are very very different."
"House elves can do almost everything they need to without wands, but they cannot fight Dementors, cannot cast Patronus, without a wand. I think Goblins have kept using wands, but in secret. They need to use wands publicly to fight Dementors too.
"I was told that some house elves and even a few Goblins would attend Hogwarts, especially after they were using wands to fight Dementors. I have to let Goblins try and get the Sword of Gryffindor out of its scabbard. Only the Goblin who will be the next King of the High Elves will be able to do it. Sounds like King Arthur.
"Please keep all of this a secret, Harry, Ginny. PLEASE, both of you stay safe."
After the meeting Ginny told Harry, "Gwen does not want me to play Saturday. Says I haven't had enough practice with the team, and it would be too dangerous. I hate it, but I will not play."
"I guess I am going to go to San Francisco with you this winter, but I would really like to at least play our this fall season. Donna and I have some really good replacements, but they could use a little more training before they are ready to replace us."
"Be safe Ginny," Harry said. "I will see you after Saturday's game."
Friday the 12th the Aurors and other members of the ministry interrogating the captured witches and wizards found that a couple had a good idea where the last remaining major figure, Fenrir Greyback, could be found. It took a while to actually find his hiding place, and more time to plan the capture. Lavender Brown wanted to be part of the group capturing Fenrir, and Harry agreed. Thursday September 18 the Aurors went to a house where they were told that Fenrir was. Harry quickly made a map, and the map indicated that Fenrir was the only person in the house. Harry had about 12 Aurors, one medical witch, plus Harry had Dobedo and Fawkes the Phoenix with him.
Fenrir fought fiercely, but was quickly captured. He was the last of the major supporters of Tom Riddle to be captured. After they captured Fenrir, Harry went to congratulate Lavender, but as he went to hug her she said "Please don't touch me, Harry. Everything still hurts." Harry though that there was more sadness in Lavender's eyes than exaltation, strange for someone who had worked so hard to capture her tormentor.
Friday morning September 19, just as Harry was arriving at the ministry, he received an owl from Lavender Brown. It said, "I am resigning from the Auror department effective immediately. Please come to my apartment this morning to pick up my things. I will explain why when you get here."
Harry first needed to reassign the assignments that were on schedule for Lavender, so that they could be covered by others. She was scheduled to be one of the people interrogating Fenrir, and Harry worried that maybe he had given Lavender an assignment that she couldn't handle.
Harry arrived at Lavender's apartment, just before 10:00 am, and with him, as usual, was Jim Shook.
Lavender's apartment door was not locked. Aurors were ordered to always lock and secure their dwellings, so this was unusual. Harry knocked on the door, and then came inside.
The apartment was pink and frilly, looking very much like Lavender when she did not have her Auror uniform on. It looked like a one bedroom apartment, with the other room a combined kitchen and living area. No one was in the main part of the apartment, but the bedroom door was open. Harry heard crying, and walked into the bedroom. Sitting on her bed, holding a large knife to her stomach, was Lavender.
"I can't," Lavender said through her tears. "I want to, but I can't, I can't. I hurt. I don't want to live, and I can't put the knife in."
"May I have the knife, please," Harry said softly. Lavender handed the knife to Harry, who discreetly handed it to Jim Shook.
Lavender sat on her bed shaking and bawling. "You can't kill yourself with your own wand," Lavender said. "I wish someone would just use the Avada Kedavra Curse on me so I don't have to feel anything ever again!"
Harry turned to Jim and said quietly, "Get some help, contact St. Mungo's." Jim left the room.
Harry touched the hand that he knew would not hurt, and held it gently. He didn't say anything, just stayed there as Lavender bawled. Lavender eventually picked up a piece of parchment and gave it to Harry. It read, "Dear Harry, I am sorry you had to be the one to find me, but I could not think of a better person. I want you to know that I have never regretted fighting at the Battle of Hogwarts. I think the mental pain of abandoning my friends and the honorable battle we fought would have been worst than my wounds.
"There has not been a day since the battle that I was not in great pain, frequently it was agony. Touching anyone or anything was horrible. I could not hold a baby in my lap, hug my parents. I longed for the touch of a man, but every time I got the courage to go out with someone the slightest touch would be agony. It was something that was not fair either to the poor boy or to me.
"The only thing that kept me going was my hatred of Fenrir Greyback. Now that he's been captured I do not have anything to live for."
"Below this is a note to my parents. Please let them know that I am at peace. Even if my face is not peaceful, please tell my parents that I was peaceful. I think they have spent almost every day since I was hurt, trying to find a way to make me better, and it is not their fault that they could not. I could not wish for better parents."
"None of this is your fault. We all now know how many more people died before the Battle of Hogwarts than died during the battle, and we have some idea of how much agony and death we prevented. You owe it to all of us to live a happy life.
"Thank you, Harry."
Harry read the note over three times, tears in his eyes. He was holding on to Lavender the whole time. Harry thought it WAS his fault that he hadn't noticed how badly Lavender was hurting. Finally Harry said, "We need to get you help! I am so sorry, Lavender."
"No one can help me, Harry," Lavender said. "I just want to die! I'm so tired of hurting!"
"I'm sure someone can do something," Harry insisted.
Lavender jerked away from Harry and lay on the bed, arms and legs spread out. "Look at me, Harry!" she yelled. "Look at the damage! I'm ruined. I'm destroyed. I'm ugly, and everything hurts. I want to die."
Lavender was starkers, and Harry saw a huge awful looking scar that started between Lavender's legs, so damaged that Harry did not see how Lavender could ever make love or have a baby. It continued up towards one breast, which was more than half gone, and on up to her neck. There were a lot of other smaller scars, but the one big one was obviously the problem.
"We will get help for you," Harry said. "When Ginny's knee was so damaged that there was no magic here to heal it, we got her a Muggle Metal knee. We WILL find something to make you better."
"Metal boobs? I'd rather die," Lavender said. She was sitting up hunched over again, the way Harry had found her. "Go. Nobody cares for Lavender Brown."
But Harry stayed until the Witch Healers arrived. Harry then rang the Auror department and said he had some business to take care of. He went to Lavender Brown's parents and told them how he had found Lavender. Harry gave them the note. "Isn't there anything anyone can do for Lavender?" Harry asked.
"There is," Violet Brown said. "There is a place in Switzerland, a clinic, where over time they think they can restore everything that has been destroyed. It's just going to take a lot of time, at least a couple of years. It could take five or six years, but who cares how much time it takes if Lavender can get better."
"We can make sure that money is not a problem," Harry said.
Violet said, "Lavender did not want to quit the Auror Department before Greyback was captured or killed. I hope we can talk her into going to the clinic now. Lavender's brother Russell has just started at Hogwarts, and I can spend as much time as necessary with Lavender if that is what it is going to take."
"I just feel like the Auror department failed Lavender," Harry said. "We should have spent more time being her friends."
Violet said, "She drove everybody away, her father and me, her brother. Harry, you did the best you could."
Harry then had to go back to the Ministry and tell everyone there what had happened. Harry felt that it was one of the most difficult days in years. He first met with Ron and the other Aurors. He spent some time in Arthur's office, and a little time in Kingsley's office as well. Both of them told Harry that he needed to take care of himself. Gawain Robards said that he and the excellent staff that they had trained, could manage without him, so Harry left for home about 4:00 PM, went to his bedroom, and cried. How had he not noticed how damaged Lavender was? How come he had let two of his Aurors slip through the cracks? Philip Fletcher was dead, and Harry should have known better than to put him in a potentially dangerous spot. How had he failed Lavender so badly? He realized how very little time he had spent talking to Lavender since she started with the Auror Department. Harry asked himself, how could he not known how badly she was hurting?
Ginny was not going to be home that night because of a big game the next day, and because she and Donna were trying to train a couple of very promising young chasers. She did call, asking Harry, "How was your day? It must feel pretty good the day after capturing Greyback?"
So Harry told Ginny how he had found Lavender. Ginny was very upset. Ginny listened, and talked, and concluded that Lavender would never have tried to kill herself if Ginny had paid enough attention to her. Ginny was horrified, and had a very hard time getting to sleep that night. She kept thinking of Lavender, and poor Wanda White, and how she had just abandoned both of them, to play Quidditch. Ginny finally understood why Harry felt the guilt's, so often.
