Summit
It was official. Danzo would soon be Sixth Hokage. He was already the acting Hokage but hadn't actually been appointed yet. In addition, the Raikage had called for a Five Kage Summit, just as Sasuke and Ryuu had predicted. They had not, however, predicted that a team of Hidden Cloud Shinobi would show up, asking about known Akatsuki members or associates, such as Orochimaru's missing former student. Or the guy that was rehabbed by them. They managed to avoid them for the most part until Danzo found them.
"Ryuu Uchiha," Danzo greeted coldly. "And Sasuke Uchiha. Good to see you two made it back to the village in one peace, though, Im not sure I can say the same for that tall friend of yours."
Ryuu and Sasuke both exchanged knowing looks before turning their attention back to Danzo.
"I won't lie Ryuu," Danzo shrugged. "I had hoped you would die when my soldiers were sent after you. And I have no reason to trust you. But as you serve the Hokage as an ANBU, I'm requesting that you come with me as one of my two bodyguards. And wear that skull mask of yours."
"Why should I help you?" Ryuu asked. "You tried to have me killed."
"Well," Danzo said, obviously pretending to think. "There's that lovely female ANBU that you seem so attached to. And there's that Tenten girl. And that Neji kid. It would be a shame if something...unbecoming happened to one of them. But, you see, when I'm in danger, my Foundation tends to get awfully...aggressive."
"So you're threatening then?" Ryuu snorted. "Sure. I'll tag along. It'll be fun. Plus, if things get out of hand, it'll be fun to watch the Raikage tear you apart."
Danzo smirked and nodded then turned and began to walk away. Ryuu turned to Sasuke once he was gone and sighed.
"Follow us," Ryuu ordered. "You and what's left of Taka. I'll be waiting."
Sasuke nodded and Ryuu left, going to his house and getting his mask and ANBU uniform then going to see Kakashi.
"Hello Ryuu," Kakashi smiled. "Where are you off to?"
"I'm supposed to accompany Danzo to the summit," Ryuu stated. "While I'm away, I have a favor to ask. Danzo threatened a few of my friends with death if I didn't go. I need you to watch over them in case something...unfortunate, happens to them while I'm away."
Kakashi nodded and Ryuu listed off the names Danzo had said. Kakashi nodded and promised to protect them then Ryuu turned and left. When he reached the gate, Danzo was waiting with another ANBU, a man with shoulder-length orange hair with a longer section in a pony tail and the rest loose, the Foundation uniform except with an orange gi under the jacket, which he wore open, and a pair of black gloves. Ryuu nodded to the ANBU, pulling his mask on. Then, the three of them left. As they traveled, Ryuu kept his Sharingan active, having figured out he could keep one Sharingan at normal and the other in Mangekyo, so he kept his left in its Mangekyo form and his right as an average Sharingan. Thanks to having his Sharingan active, he was able to track eight assassins moving to attack. He casually drifted to the side opposite Danzo, giving them a clear shot, not that he expected them to succeed, and after a moment, they stopped, Fu reporting that he had finally sensed them.
"I know," Danzo nodded. "I haven't seen battle in quite a while. This will be an excellent chance to get my old muscles limbered up again. Do not interfere, I'll take care of them."
He pulled the bandages over Shisui's Sharingan up then formed several hand seals, inhaling as he did. Then, he spun, exhaling several streams of wind that sliced through the assassins. They all fell around them, one of them landing at Danzo's feet, his sword landing beside him.
"Is your target the Hokage?" Danzo asked the only survivor, coincidentally the one right in front of him. "Or are you targeting me personally?"
"Please, just kill me," the assassin pleaded.
"Well, not that it really matters," Danzo shrugged, piking up the sword and impaling the assassin.
Several kunai suddenly shot out of the trees and Danzo used the assassin's corpse to block them, using Shisui's Sharingan to count the assassins. More kunai flew out of the trees, again being blocked by the corpse before the assassins, nine in total, charged out of the trees, attacking Danzo only to die swiftly.
"These are remnants of the Hannya Black Ops from the Land of Woods that we slew in the past," the other ANBU stated.
"It has always been like this," Danzo stated. "Foes seizing a chance to strike."
"Can we get moving?" Ryuu asked. "I'd rather we didn't arrive after they've started. We have the furthest to go."
"Very well," Danzo nodded. "You have a point."
They continued on and this time without interruptions. They made excellent time, arriving at the Land of Iron, where the meeting would be held, ahead of schedule. There, they waited for the others. Finally, they were all present and seated in a room with a horseshoe table for the five kage and a smaller, desk-sized table for the ruler of the Land of Iron, Mifune. The bodyguards were all placed in the raised section behind their Kage, but Ryuu wanted to play a little meet and greet, and a prank, so he silently moved to stand behind Kankuro, no one except the other Leaf ANBU and the Hidden Cloud's Sensor ninja being any the wiser. Kankuro turned around, covering his mouth to keep from shouting in surprise at the intimidating mask just barely behind his head.
"Greetings, Kankuro of the Sand," Ryuu greeted, making his voice sound raspy and hoarse.
"How the hell do you know me?" Kankuro asked.
"You don't recognize me?" Ryuu growled reaching up to his mask. "Fine, I'll show you."
He pulled his mask to the side enough for the two Sand Siblings to see his face and both instantly had their jaws hit the floor.
"Good to see you two," Ryuu smiled, moving his mask into place.
"You too," Temari grinned. "Nice mask."
"Thanks," Ryuu smiled as Mifune walked in and sat down. "Gotta go."
He returned to his place, seeing the other ANBU still grinning at Kankuro's reaction.
"Place your Kage headpieces before you," Mifune instructed.
All of the Kage complied, Ryuu grinning to see that Gaara had indeed become the Kazekage. The lights came on as the glorified hats touched the table and Ryuu looked around at the other Kage. The Raikage was a tall, extremely muscular man with white hair styled like B's, a pointed beard, and a white mustache that was two small pieces over the corners of his mouth. The Tsuchikage was a short old man with a white mustache that reached as low as his pointed white beard, and white hair around the sides of his head. He wore a black shirt and pants with a red and green cloak in five pieces: a shoulder cover and four strips hanging down from it. The Mizukage was a beautiful woman with long red hair, bangs covering her right eye, large breasts, and a blue dress that hung low on her cleavage. Gaara, the Kazekage, wore a red shirt and pants, a Sunagakure flak jacket, and had his ever-present gourd on his back. Mifune had the top of his head wrapped in bandages, long grey hair, a mustache and beard like the Tsuchikage's, a dark purple cloak, and blue pants.
"Let the Five Kage Summit commence," Mifune declared.
"Then allow me to begin," Gaara spoke up. "Listen-"
"Heh!" the Tsuchikage laughed. "My my, how the Kage have changed. To be named Kage at your age is quite impressive, Lord Kazekage. Yet despite your father's obviously brilliant guidance, he seemed to have not taught you any etiquette."
"Yes, probably," Gaara agreed. "That's why I was chosen as Kazekage."
The Tsuchikage laughed then said, "You cheeky young rascal!"
"Lord Tsuchikage, please don't interrupt anymore," the Mizukage requested. "Please, continue Lord Kazekage."
Ryuu's Sharingan drifted across the lines of bodyguards. From where he sat, he could see them all. The Mizukage had brought a man with an eyepatch, covering a Dojutsu of some kind, if the chakra running through that eye but not the other meant anything, and a young boy with pointed teeth, like Suigetsu's, and a very large sword wrapped in bandages on his back. It had two handles and the blade was shaped vaguely like a fish.
"Ninja Swordsman," Ryuu muttered.
"Hush," the other ANBU growled.
The Tsuchikage had brought a girl roughly Ryuu's age with short black hair, a red shirt with a shawl and a sleeve only on her left arm, and a short red skirt over fishnet leggings, and a very, very large round man with a large round nose, a plump face, and a very happy facial expression. The Raikage had brought a blond male sensor ninja and a black man with spiky white hair, a stern, almost emotionless expression, and a large rectangular cleaver on his back.
Ryuu turned back to the Kage and decided to at least pay a little attention.
"Very few have achieved control over Tailed Beasts," Danzo was saying. "Madara Uchiha and First Hokage Senju Hashirama, and of course the Fourth Mizukage Yagura, As well as Lord Raikage's brother, Killer B. However-"
"Chojuro," the older of the Mizukage's bodyguards growled.
"Yes Sir," Chojuro nodded reaching for his sword.
"Enough of this nonsense!" the Raikage, A, shouted smashing his fist down on the table in front of him as the bodyguards leapt into action.
Almost all of the bodyguards landed aiming their weapons at the Raikage. His own bodyguards appeared before him with their weapons drawn, the sensor having only a kunai, and Ryuu landed directly in front of Danzo, tanto out, making a show of being protective while his left hand had the palm pointed directly at Danzo's face. He and Danzo both knew that if a battle began, he could easily extend a Chidori Spear to impale Danzo through the head and kill him. Everyone remained completely motionless, all waiting for someone else to begin the chaos.
"This summit is a place of discourse," Mifune sighed. "So please refrain from any more behavior that lacks civility."
"Stand down," Danzo spoke up. "Fu. Ryuu."
"You too, Kankuro, Temari," Gaara complied.
"Ao, Chojuro, it's alright," the Mizukage said.
"Yes Ma'am," Ao, the one with the eyepatch replied.
The Tsuchikage simply used his head to motion back toward the balcony and the larger of his bodyguards nodded in response, the bodyguards all returning to their places. A pulled his hand out of the table and Mifune asked them to continue their discussion.
"The Hidden Leaf, the Stone, the Sand, the Mist," A listed. "The Akatsuki's membership is comprised of rogue shinobi from your villages. That's not all either. From our investigations, we know that among you, and the earlier Kage, there are even those who have used the Akatsuki."
"The Kage used them?" Gaara asked, surprised.
"And that's why I don't trust any of you," A stated. "I have no interest in any discourse. But the reason I called you all to this summit, is to ultimately question your loyalties."
"What do you mean?" Gaara asked.
Ryuu glanced sideways when he saw movement and saw Sasuke using the shadows, along with the Camouflage Jutsu to remain hidden. Ryuu looked over at the sensor A had brought and saw his eyes flick toward Sasuke, the other bodyguard tensing. Ryuu's Mangekyo Sharingan spun, both of the bodyguards entering a genjutsu in which they were unable to take any notice of Sasuke, until the fighting began, and made them forget he had been there. Unfortunately, the other bodyguards had noticed the pair tense and were looking around. Sasuke seemed to realize this because before anyone could fins him, he had escaped to a different part of the room, still staying behind Danzo where Danzo couldn't see him. Ryuu also put Fu under the same genjutsu as the Raikage's bodyguards since he seemed to be a sensory ninja as well. Ryuu looked back to the Kage as Danzo began to speak.
"It is probably that the leader of the Akatsuki is Madara Uchiha," Danzo stated, earning shocked reactions from the Kage and bodyguards alike, leaving only Ryuu unsurprised, since he already knew that.
"Are you sure of that?" the Mizukage asked.
"But how could that even be possible?" Gaara asked. "Hasn't he been dead for several decades?"
"The Kazekage is right," the Tsuchikage stated. "Madara has been dead for a long long time."
"Well I don't know all of the details, but the information is from quite a reliable source," Danzo stated.
"Are you saying he's immortal?" A demanded.
"Perhaps," Danzo mused.
"So then, he really is some kind of inhuman monster," the Tsuchikage blinked.
Ryuu tried to gauge the reactions of the bodyguards, all of whom seemed to be somewhere between shocked and fearful. He didn't blame them. He turned back to Mifune who was speaking about the Akatsuki using the Great Nations' mistrust of each other to become strong.
"It's very rare for all five Kage to convene in one location," Mifune was saying. "What do you all say to this, until the Akatsuki are disposed of, why not establish the world's first Allied Shinobi Forces of the Five Hidden Villages?"
