Chapter 37

Fallon winced from the strong grip on her shoulders, roughly shaking her awake. She blinked at the sudden light, instantly shutting her eyes again.

"Hey," the hands shook her again, gaining a groan from her body. "You need to wake up." The gruff voice scowled, flicking her nose.

Fallon shook her head, rubbing her nose from the sudden pain. She slowly opened her eyes to find a strange boy before her, grinning like a maniac. "W-Who are you?" Her voice was muffled from the handkerchief tied around her mouth. "What..?"

"Oh, sorry," he quickly untied the handkerchief, discarding it behind him. "I tied it around your mouth and nose to stop the gas from entering your lungs." He placed his hands on his hips, raising his head. "I am the most selfless God in the entire world!"

Fallon raised her brow, edging away from the boy. "OK, whatever you say weirdo." She coughed, feeling a thick layer of gunk in her throat. "Ugh, what is that?"

The boy shrugged, sitting on a nearby desk. "Just a side-effect from the smoke you inhaled, I guess."

All she could do was nod and rub at her throat in hope of the gunk vanishing by itself. Her eyes widened when she realised that someone was missing. "Shit! W-Where's Starr!?" She panicked, looking frantically around the room in search for the young singer.

The blue-head scratched his chin, pointing over at the girl lying unconscious on the couch. "You mean her?" He questioned, watching as Fallon ran over to the girl's side.

"Starr! Wake up!" She shook her shoulders but there was no movement. Her breathing was feint, caused from the smoke she inhaled. "Why won't she wake up?"

The boy frowned, wondering how he should answer. "Erm, she was still conscious when I found you both...but the amount of smoke she inhaled probably took a toll on her body. By the looks of it, her body couldn't take the stress so has locked her mind up so she can heal..."

"Shit!" She cried, gripping Starr's ashen shirt. "D-Do you know how to get out of here?"

"Of course I do! I am the almighty God!" The boy yelled, loud enough to rattle her ears. "I know everything!"

"I don't give a fuck about your status, just help me get her out of here!" Fallon growled, spitting her words at the boy. She shoved her hands under Starr's body and lifted her up, suddenly tilting back from the weight.

The boy caught her in an instant, balancing her on her own two feet before taking Starr from her, slinging the girl on his back. "Let me carry her, you can just about stand as it is." He said, grabbing her wrist. "Come on, I'll get you out of here and back to your families."

Fallon nodded, allowing the strange boy to pull her along as they exited the bare office they were in. He released her hand for only a moment just to pull his black bandana over his mouth and nose, before grabbing her wrist again.

Fallon pulled up the loose material from her jacket and covered her own face before exiting through the door. She followed the boy for a while before the silence got to her. "I-I'm sorry for shouting at you back there," she whispered, loud enough for him to hear.

"It's alright, you were upset." He shrugged, quickening his pace.

"And," she breathed, "thanks for rescuing us." She smiled, poking his cheek. "I'm Fallon, and the girl you're carrying is Starr." She introduced herself formally, trying to pace herself with his speed.

The boy nodded before clearing his throat. "The name's Blackstar."

"Hm, nice to meet you." She grinned, not being able to taste the strange gunk anymore. "Can I ask you a question Blackstar?"

"Shoot."

Fallon wiggled her fingers, looking him in the eye. "How did you get in here? Are you the type of person to pay to watch us fight to the death?" She swallowed a lump in her throat, trying to not overreact.

Blackstar shook his head, surprised at the girls accusations. "No, I'm not sick like that." He explained. "A good friend of mine had his partner taken from him. His partner was brought here to fight, just like you and the others. We made a plan to get her and the other kidnapped girls back," he grinned, "so that's why I'm here."

"And you found us."

"Yep, but my friend is still in here, searching for his partner."

"What's her name?" Fallon mumbled, afraid at his answer. Please don't let it be Ava or Maggie, not one of the dead girls.

"Maka, Maka Albarn." He replied, getting a surprised look in return.

"M-Maka!? I know her!" She gasped, struggling with her words. "S-She's alive...but we got separated, but she is alive!" Fallon yelled, gripping his hand. "Is Soul her partner? She talked about him a lot!"

"Wow, calm down." He breathed. "Yes, Soul is her partner." He pulled her on further, away from the smoke filled corridors. "But let's just focus on getting out of here."

Mr. Harper tugged on the doorknob of the large container, trying to pry it open. With a few more attempts at tugging and turning, he finally gave up; wiping the sweat from his forehead. "It's no use, it won't even budge." He sighed, looking back at his colleagues.

Death the Kid shook his head, crossing his arms across his chest. He didn't know what to suggest. It's not as if he can pick the lock with his foot long swords.

"Let me try," Patty suggested, reaching behind her back. She pulled the gun she had obtained from the Battle Zone out from her belt, aiming directly for the handle. In one swift movement she pulled the trigger, sending a small volt of electricity towards the handle.

The currents rocked through the locks and complicated mechanisms inside before letting out a click. Patty smirked, putting away her gun. "Ladies first I suppose," she snorted before smashing her foot into the door.

Her baby blue eyes widened at the sight before her, making her wretch. The horrid, putrid, wrenching smell reached her nose, burning her from the inside out. She couldn't help but let out a cry of pain, stumbling back on the solid body behind her.

Kid gripped her from behind, moving on instinct. He pulled her off to the side, forcing her face into his chest. He didn't want her to look at the bodies lying stacked upon one another, dried blood crusting their skin.

Patty had never seen anything as revolting as the scene before her. Dead human bodies weren't something she came across on a daily basis, not like these which were left in those unnatural angles on top of each other.

Though she had her face buried in Kid's chest, the images of the scene wouldn't disappear from her mind. It was like the image had burned itself on the lids of her eyes, showing the never-ending scene. She let the tears run, hoping the image would disperse rather sooner than later.

Harper winced at the sight of the bodies, all stacked up in rows. Throughout his years in the job, nothing had ever been as distressing as this. The bodies of the girls, or what he could make of them, were dumped in stacks. Some of the recent ones having bones sticking out in strange angles, with crusted blood sitting around the open wounds.

And the smell...it was putrid.

It burned the sensitive skin in his nose, causing it to bleed and run down his chin. Stepping closer to the deceased, he cleaned it away with a swipe of his sleeve, pulling up his collar to block the stench.

Compared to the other bodies, the most recent ones were the worst. The later deceased girls weren't recognisable anymore. They were just small fragments of skin and bone. Nothing more.

But he recognised one of the faces.

Hunched up in the corner was the body of Maggie Kitz, her long grubby curls covering her face. With the dim lighting reflecting from her pale white body like a mirror, she looked like something out of a horror film. She had disappeared a mere three weeks ago.

He moved closer, pulling the pair of rubber gloves from his pocket. He quickly unfurled them and slid them on, reaching towards Maggie's lifeless body. He slowly parted her hair, asking one of his colleagues to help.

His colleague held the hair back while Harper lifted her chin, her empty sockets glaring at him. He stumbled back with his college as a mixture of puss and blood gushed from the long slit in her neck, running down her clothes to the ground. It looked as if she had been strangled with some sort of metal cord. Something strong enough to cut through the skin during strangulation.

Harper glanced around before focusing his eyes on his colleague who was on the verge of puking. "Call forensics, they need to search this place immediately." He ordered before looking at the others. "Nobody touch anything! This is all evidence," he breathed, noticing a strand of purple hair on his sleeve. "Where'd this come from?" He pondered while everyone else rushed out, leaving him with the bodies.

He stared at a nearby body, recognising the matching purple hair. He knelt down and nudged the corpse, recognising the decomposing face immediately. This girl went missing two months ago down in Pheonix. She was known for her strange addiction to witchcraft. She was arrested a few times for wasting police time, but that didn't comprehend to what she must have gone through.

Harper clenched his fist, cursing to himself. He knew this girl's parents. Hell, he went to school with them back in the day! He wished he hadn't been the one to find her body. The body of Blair, the pen name she had chosen for herself. But this means that Nevada isn't the only state in which these kidnappings have been happening. It's been going on for months!

He fumbled with his collar, not wanting to be in the container any longer. With a few hurried steps, he exited the doorway and locked it back up, keeping the stench inside. "What?" He asked, noticing the worried looks his colleagues were giving him. "I'm fine," he sighed, shooing them away. "No need to worry." He muttered as a sudden thought crossed his mind. "But will someone please call the firefighters up and ask for another fucking fire truck!? Where the hell are they?"

Maka cleared her throat as she exited the last of the smoke, brushing the pieces of ash from her clothes. She breathed in the clean air, combing her hair back. She glanced back to find Blaise stumbling out from the smoke, trying to adjust her hair.

"Eck! That was so gross!" She squirmed, shivering all over.

Maka raised her brow, tapping her chin. But wasn't Blaise in front of her? If so, then how did she end up all the way back there?

"What, are you just gonna stand around and look at me or are we gonna move?" She spat, shoving her hands on her hips for emphasise. "Well?"

"Whatever," Maka groaned, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

Blaise shot her a glare before moving forward, getting ahead of her. "That's what I thought." She said, her voice reaching a higher pitch.

Maka clenched her fists, biting her bottom lip. "You are starting to piss me off," she growled, stalking after the girl. Her hair brushed past her shoulders, flowing like ribbons as she picked up her pace; walking past a cluster of large puddles.

Blaise felt herself be yanked back, wincing from the sharp nails digging into her shoulder. "What do you want!?" She screamed, turning around to face the ash blonde.

"I want you to stop treating me like crap and grow a fucking brain cell for once!" Maka yelled as Blaise pulled her hand off.

"Don't insult me you stupid bitch!" Blaise spat back, not taking the insult lightly. She ground her pearly white together as she sucked at the saliva in her mouth, forming a small ball. She opened her mouth and spat the substance right in Maka's face before making a run for it, taking the stunned meister's posture for granted.

Maka yelped in surprise, wiping the disgusting liquid from her face. She yelled in frustration and took after her, throwing her insults this way and that. Blaise sprinted ahead, not wanting to be caught. She ran further through the current corridor filled with muddy puddles and loose cables, refusing to let the ash blonde catch up. But she had no such luck.

Maka bolted down the corridor like lightning, catching up with the girl in no time. She grabbed the ends of her hair and yanked it back, getting a shrill scream from her enemy. Blaise stumbled back, raking her nails across Maka's cheek.

Her emerald eyes hardened as she shoved the girl upright, slapping her across the face. Blaise felt the pain pierce through her skin, becoming dazed from the throbbing sensation in her cheek.

Maka grinned, bringing her leg up. The sole of her shoe made contact with Blairs ribs, cracking the top few as they punctured her heart and other organs. A stream of blood began to surface from her mouth, dripping constantly down her chin. Her body was thrown back from the blow as she tried to grab onto something to stop herself from falling.

Her weak hands grabbed onto one of the loose cables as she fell, bring it down with her. Her back hit the ground with a crack and she landed in one of the muddy puddles, dropping the cable in the water.

She screamed when the bolts of electricity from the wire sparked to life, running through the ripples in the water. It electrocuted her body as she cried for help, her body finally shutting down for good. Her figure compulsed as the electric shocks shot through her dead body, frying her skin.

The smell was horrid.

Maka pinched the bridge of her nose, her eyes glazing with justice. Her voice sang with pleasure when she walked away from the scene, not once glancing back at what she had done. "Oh, sweet revenge."

But I forgot my glasses (because I'm stupid and can't see far away things very well) and basically, all I could make out were these little white blobs jumping around on the stage XD lol.

I don't know where the reference to Blair came from in the chapter, but I just felt like adding her into there. She hardly ever shows up in my stories XD Also, I've finished my other stories so will be able to update much quicker than before ;) See you in the next chapter!
