Stealing Fire

Alessia was pacing back and forth in the lockup cell, cracking her knuckles over and over again as her father watched her from the bench he was sitting on. All she could think about was a way to get them all out of there before Kane's execution. She couldn't sit back and let her father die. Maybe if they started another distraction Kane could get away and manage, somehow, to get through the camp gates and make a run for it.

Maybe.

She was so deep in thought that she barely heard the door to the lockup chambers open and a guard announce the Chancellor's entry. Alessia quit her pacing to spin around and observed Chancellor Pike and Bellamy walk up to the prison gate together. It was as if they were attached at the hip. Alessia refused to let her eyes go anywhere near Bellamy's, although she was acutely aware that he was focused on no one but her.

"I thought I had more time," Kane muttered from beside her. He rose from the bench and stepped to the gate, pushing his daughter slightly behind him. Alessia locked her eyes on Pike with an unnerving hatred. She'd be damned before she would let them take her father.

"I'm not here for you," Pike growled as he looked around the prison cell and bellowed, "Each of you is guilty of the same crimes as Kane, and as such, you will share the same fate—death." Immediately, the Grounders behind the Kanes rose in alarm. Lincoln held his hand out and assured them not to worry.

"My people are innocent. They know nothing." Lincoln stepped up to the gate and leaned up close, his voice merely a whisper. "Don't let them suffer for my crimes. Please, Sir."

"Lincoln's right," Bellamy concurred. The interruption came as a shock to the prisoners, who were all aware of Bellamy's support of the Chancellor. "All the others did was run through an open door. Same thing we would do if we were in there."

As Bellamy attempted to make his case, Pike did not remove his eyes from the Grounder leader. The Chancellor let his eyes wander around the prison lockup and took a nice, long breath before returning his gaze to Lincoln with a nod.

"I believe that's true." His eyes shifted to cold indifference. "Kane, Lincoln, Sinclair, and Alessia—as the leaders of this coup, you will pay for your crimes with your lives."

"What? You said you would banish her, not execute her!" Kane barked as he stepped forward. Alessia stood still, saying nothing. She remained unmoving even as she felt all eyes in the room turn towards her.

"I had time to think about it. She may only be nineteen, but what she did was inexcusable. She knew what she was doing when she did it. We've killed teenagers on the Ark for much less."

"Sir—" Bellamy tried, stepping forward a half-step with a look of panic flashing across his features. He shared a desperate look with Kane, but before he could even formulate the words to come to her defense, he was interrupted.

"No," Alessia demanded, her eyes locked on Chancellor Pike. Kane, Bellamy, and Lincoln turned back to watch her intense stare-down, all with the same confused look on their faces. Not once did she break her calm exterior. "He's right. My father and I committed the same crimes, we should share the same punishment. Besides, banishment won't work on me. I'll just come back and kill him. He knows that."

Her last words oozed with sourness, but there was no sarcastic smile to accompany the insult. Pike said nothing, but she could see a small, knowing smile that briefly curled on his lips. She knew he never had any intention of letting her go; even still, there was a panic that rose in her lungs knowing that she was going to be executed, but that panic quickly turned into motivation. All it meant was that she had to find a way out of there for everyone as fast as she could.

"Execution is set for dawn," Pike informed them before turning on his heel and walking out. All the guards that came with him followed him, except for Bellamy. He paused for a moment, trying desperately to catch the young girl's eyes. Instead, she turned away from the gate the moment Chancellor Pike was out the door and proceeded to the back of the prison to collect her thoughts.

This time, it was Kane that was the one pacing back and forth inside the lockup as Alessia sat on the bench beside him, observing her father in such a state. It surprised her how much she really was like her father, down to the thumbnail in his mouth as he paced in deep thought. She sighed.

"Dad, please. You're making me dizzy."

"There has to be a way to convince him to spare you. Not that you helped the situation when you told him you'd just come back and kill him if he banished you." Kane stopped cold and faced his daughter, throwing his hands up in the air. "I mean, Alessia, what were you thinking?!"

"I was thinking I'm about to die, so I might as well start telling the truth."

"You are not going to die," Kane snapped. She sat up straight at the harshness in his tone. When he realized how short he sounded, Kane sighed and walked over to sit on the bench beside his daughter. "Listen. I've already gone through the hell of believing you were dead twice, Alessia. Both times I couldn't bear the thought of it. I am getting you out of this if it's the last thing I do."

Alessia looked up at Kane, who had never said kinder words to her in her entire life. He reached forward and grabbed her hand, and she tried to ignore the tears that welled up in his eyes, for if he cried she didn't think she'd be able to handle it. Before she could say anything back, there were guards at the gate barking her name.

"Alessia Kane! Stand up!"

Alessia and her father rose from their bench cautiously. Kane raised his eyebrows in protest. "No! It's not dawn yet."

"Someone wants to see her. Get up, put your hands behind your head, and back up slowly." Alessia did as told, and the guards opened the gate with caution, yanked her outside, and quickly shackled her wrists and her ankles together. Kane watched as she nodded bravely and was taken away in the blink of an eye by the guards.

"No need to be so rough," Alessia muttered under her breath as the guards shoved her into a room once they had made their way down the corridor. She frowned sourly as she turned into the room, feeling the pressure from the shackles on her wrists and knew instantly that it would leave a bruise. It was only when she finally allowed herself to adjust to the environment around her that she realized she was not alone. Alessia stiffened.

"You've got to be kidding me." It came out as one big breath when she noticed Bellamy pacing in the center of the room, coming to a stop only upon seeing her. She turned back to the door and tried her luck at getting out, but of course it was locked. She tried again, praying for a miracle. He scoffed behind her back.

"You think we'd be dumb enough to leave the door unlocked? One open door has gotten you into enough trouble."

Alessia turned around slowly, but said nothing to him and kept her eyes peeled to the floor. Bellamy could see very clearly that she was refusing to speak to him, so he absent-mindedly took a step closer while he thought of what to say. In response, she simply took a step back until her heel hit the door, a less than graceful move with the ankle shackles. Not wanting to push his luck (and quite afraid that she would react in a dangerous way), Bellamy backed away with a shaking sigh.

"Alessia, I never wanted any of this to happen. Please. You have to know that."

She didn't react, which was quite odd for her. Inside, she was fighting every urge to kill him. Never before had she hated him so much as she did then. It wasn't because she was hours away from her own execution, but because his vendetta against the Grounders now cost Alessia her father in the crossfire. For Bellamy to think that she would forgive him so easily for something so wretched was unfathomable. She gave him every chance to change, but he made his alliances crystal clear.

"Please say something." She didn't. "The second Pike said he was going to kill Kane, I realized how wrong this is. I promise you I won't let that happen." He stepped forward again, and in response her eyes cut up to loudly warn him to stay back. He stopped cold in his tracks, but now held her gaze as he lowered his voice.

"And I won't let you die, either. You've got to believe that! I love you, Alessia."

She shook her head tightly. "No. You don't."

"Yes, I do. I love you. And that will never change, no matter what happens." He'd never said anything more true in his life, he realized.

"Even if I believed you," Alessia started slowly, her face expressionless and her voice the same level of sincerity but a clear twinge of disdain hidden inside. "I can't love you. I won't. Not anymore."

The words felt like a bullet hitting the center of his heart, the tears stinging at the corners of his eyes as she said the harsh words. He refused to believe that, but the look on her face made it hard for him to argue. Alessia became utterly solemn before turning around to face the door, simply waiting to be let out. She had nothing more to say to him. He took a second to regain his dignity she had so effortlessly torn to shreds before picking up his radio to signal the guard outside to open the door and take her back to holding.

Despite her best efforts to push him away, he wouldn't let it happen this time. He may not be able to win her heart back, but he would save her if it was the last thing he did.

Bellamy paced nervously in the shadows behind the drop ship as he waited for Octavia to come and meet him. After requesting that Miller and Harper contact Octavia to get her to agree to a meeting with him, he still wasn't so sure if they would do what he asked. Honestly, he wasn't entirely sure if they even cared enough to, but he hoped that they had. Time was running out.

That's why he was so relieved when he heard the taps of hooves to the ground and looked up to find Octavia riding in the light rain to stop at the drop ship. As she demounted her horse, Bellamy stepped out into the moonlight in view of his sister.

"I'm glad you came." Octavia looked around nervously, clearly trying to find any of his accomplices in the darkness. Bellamy shook his head reassuringly. "I'm alone, O. I'm here to help."

His face must have had his pain written all over it, as Octavia seemed to lower her guard and stepped forward, reaching her arms out to embrace her brother. After the day he had, he leaned forward without hesitation to fall into his sister's embrace. However, just as he moved forward, she reached up and stuck something unknown to him into his neck, causing him to immediately lose his balance and, pretty soon, his eyes were forced shut.

Octavia muttered something into his ear, but he couldn't understand.

When Bellamy woke, he could barely see a thing through the blurriness of his eyes. His head felt heavy and he could barely feel the rest of his limbs. In his ears, there was a ringing noise accompanied by murmurs from whoever was around him. He tried to remember the last thing he saw—Octavia, that's right.

Wait, he thought as he held his hands up, a light breaking through his blurriness that was too strong, Octavia...

"It was a mistake to bring him here." It took him a moment or two, but he realized the voice was Indra's. When his eyes focused, he could see his sister look up at Indra, annoyed. It was then that he realized his hands were bound by chains, attached to the rock wall of the cave they were in.

"He was out the whole way. And I searched him for bugs."

He found his voice quickly, to his surprise. "You think I'd let them hurt you?"

"Shut your mouth." Bellamy watched Indra moved forward, her teeth clenched tightly as she said the words to him. In all the chaos in the last few days, he'd forgotten about the massacre of the Grounders outside camp. Well, not forgotten. He had shoved the thought into the back of his mind and hoped it had stayed there. It felt like another life.

"Indra! We talked about this." Octavia intervened, stepping forward and placing a hand on Indra's arm cautiously. Indra turned to her sharply.

"You're waste time. You should be in their camp by now." Bellamy shook his head in protest and immediately interrupted.

"No, it's suicide! Pike will be expecting you. You won't get close. I can." He looked between Indra and Octavia with a desperate look in his eyes. "We can save them, but we have to work together."

"You're the reason they need saving!" Octavia spat, her lips drawn tightly together as if she was holding herself back from saying what she really wanted to.

"You think I don't know that?! I know, O! I screwed up," Bellamy snapped, straining his neck out further. Indra and Octavia watched him as he reigned himself back slightly and lowered his head. "That doesn't change the fact that you need me."

Octavia lowered her eyes to the floor and stepped forward. Her voice was soft and slow as she brought her gaze up to lock eyes with Bellamy coldly.

"For the first time in my life, that's not true."

"O—" Bellamy shook his head in protest again, but Octavia stormed out of the cave before he could say anything further. He shouted after her, but she didn't turn back. Indra walked away to a separate part of the cave, leaving Bellamy alone as the thought sunk in that all the people he cared about could die within the next few hours.

The Kanes were quiet as they sat on the floor of the holding cell, knowing that the clock was ticking faster as the night came and went. The father-daughter pair were never much to say a lot in times of crisis, but that was because their relationship was lacking in most aspects. But this was different. Neither one of them wanted to say anything, because the prospect of their lives ending was becoming imminent.

Eventually, Marcus broke the silence with two simple words: "I'm sorry."

Alessia didn't move. "For what?"

"For being such a bad father. For keeping you away from Calix. For locking you up in prison. For sending you to the ground with The Hundred." Alessia turned her head to watch her father as he shrugged his shoulders up and down in the most mundane way possible. "I'm just sorry."

She would be lying if she said she hadn't been waiting a long time to hear him say those words. She would also be lying if she said it was as gratifying as she wanted it to be, because in all reality it didn't make her feel any better or even change her life in any significant way. Alessia frowned.

"I'm sorry," she returned quietly. Her father turned his head to look at her, confused.

"For what?"

"For being such a...bitchy daughter." Marcus laughed when he saw his daughter smile slightly, a slight chuckle escaping her lips. "For not believing you when you said you wouldn't float me. For not seeing that you raised me the way you did because you wanted me to be independent and strong. For not seeing that you only wanted what was best for me."

"You had every reason to lash out at me. I forced you to do things that you never wanted."

"No. I have been blaming you my entire life...for choices that were mine. For choices that led me to become who I am today. If I weren't the person that I am today, I don't think I would know what to do with myself. This is who I am, the good and the bad. Sure, that's partially because of the way you raised me; but I made my own decisions. I've been making my own decisions ever since I came down here, and I've had every opportunity to stray from the life you taught me. I tried when I switched to medical, but clearly that didn't last very long. Because this is the life I've chosen for myself, and as much as it kinda sucks, I'm proud of who I am."

Kane didn't realize how much he needed to hear those words from her before she actually said them. It suddenly dawned on him that she might not survive this, but no matter what his daughter didn't hate him the way she used to. They had come so far from where they were that first day when The Hundred were sent to the ground, it was almost unfathomable. He smiled to himself.

"Your mother would've been proud of the person you are." Alessia turned her head in surprise. Her mother was almost never a topic of conversation. Kane hung his head briefly before turning his head at her with a smile. "I know I am."

Tears welled up in her eyes, but all she did was smile back at him in the Kane-like manner before they went silent again. No matter what happened to them now, this was enough.

A while later, Lincoln watched as Kane traced the burn mark Marcus bore on his forearm, clearly thinking back to when he tried to initiate Arkadia as the Thirteenth Clan. The thought crossed Lincoln's mind as well, remembering how far they'd come from the Grounders becoming enemies with the teenagers from The Hundred.

"It could've worked," Lincoln muttered to Kane from his spot on the bench. Kane lowered his eyes quietly.

"Death can be an act of unity, too." He looked back and forth between Lincoln, Sinclair, and his daughter beside him. "We don't break. We don't show fear. The people will remember."

Just as he said the words, the dreaded arrived. The guards announced the Chancellor's entrance into the lock-up chamber, and Pike promptly boasted that it was the time. The Grounders in the cell all rose out of confusion and fear, but Lincoln rose and spoke to them calmly to ease their concerns. Kane and Alessia rose from their spots on the floor as Pike and an army of guards swarmed the chamber to lead them to their deaths.

"Back up! Back up. Against the wall, now. Come on. Let's go. Go, go." Four different guards walked up to the targeted prisoners and shackled their wrists and their ankles. Kane and Alessia shared a look, but nothing was said. Nothing had to be said. This was the end for them, but it would give way to much more than that.

The circle of guards quickly led the prisoners down the hall, guns hot beside each prisoner and in the hallways to make sure there were no liabilities. As they came down one corridor, they heard Pike shout from the front, "Make way!"

"Yes, Sir, Mr. Chancellor." As they continued to walk, Kane and Alessia realized the voice who had obeyed the Chancellor was no one other than Harper's, and she gave them a look as they were walking down the hallway that could only mean one thing.

There was a plan.

The guards pushed them forward, earning a heated look of disdain from Alessia, who clearly did not enjoy being pushed around. Within the next minute, there was a beep from Chancellor Pike's radio with urgent news.

"Sir, you were right. Octavia Blake is here and she's not alone."

The guards and prisoners came to a stop as Pike whipped his body around quickly, cocking his gun at the prisoner and demanding them to get on their knees. Alessia felt the wind knocked out of her as a guard placed a thick hand on her shoulder and forced her to the ground to wait. Pike lowered his gun and radioed back.

"Can you confirm a location?"

"Negative, Sir."

"Sir, we can assume her friends have already told her where we're taking them. We shouldn't go any further until we know the route's secure," Bryan, one of the younger guards, suggested. Pike took a moment to collect his thoughts before turning his head to an empty room and nodding to it.

"Put them in there. Let's go! Move." The guards hurriedly rushed all four prisoners into the small empty room, shoving the inside and closing the door promptly. They could hear Pike's shouting commands from outside the door.

Lincoln, Sinclair, Kane, and Alessia all looked at each other in confusion, but they were only in the dark for a few minutes before the door swung open and in came Octavia, guns slinging. She closed the door behind her, which only confused the prisoners more.

"Octavia, what—" Alessia started, but Octavia shook her head promptly and rushed forward to an area in the middle of the floor. Without a word, she dug her nails under one of the floorboard tiles and lifted it up with the help of Sinclair and Lincoln beside her. When the tile was lifted, it left a large hole in the floor and led to nothing but darkness.

"Get inside," Octavia ordered as she looked around at the group of prisoners. For a moment the thought crossed their minds to question what was happening, but they realized they better not. Instead, one by one they fit themselves through the hole and down they went under the floorboard into the dark, crammed space. Octavia went in last, carrying the heavy tile board above her head.

She set it down once she was fully submerged into the space, and darkness surrounded them.

"Indra, please," Bellamy begged the injured Grounder warrior as he struggled with his restraints. "She has no idea what she's facing in there. Pike has tripled his security. There's surveillance everywhere. He'll see her coming!"

Indra had her back to him as she rested by the fire. "Good. We're counting on that."

Bellamy stood up abruptly. He needed to get out of the cave and help his sister rescue everyone. "He still trusts me. If anything goes wrong, we can use that!"

In response to Bellamy's pleading, Indra stood up quickly and took two strides to him, her mouth set in a hard line. "I saw where you earned that trust—on the battlefield, where you massacred my brothers and sisters."

"Should I have let Pike kill you?"

"Why didn't you?"

"Same reason you haven't used that sword on me," he replied pointedly while indicating towards the sword on the floor by the fire. Indra blinked slowly.

"Octavia."

A silence passed for a moment before Bellamy had to try again. "We are running out of time. Cut me loose. She could die in there."

Indra remained still. "Then Octavia kom Skaikru will earn the warrior's death you denied me."

With that said, Indra turned on her heel and went back to the fire, but Bellamy wasn't taking it. He fought with the chains some more, desperate to get out of them. When he realized they weren't giving, he turned back to Indra with a rage bubbling under his surface.

"Indra, you don't understand! You have to let me go—not only do I need to save my sister, but I need to save Alessia too. I can't let her die!"

Indra scoffed, not turning around. "Something you should have given thought to before turning her in."

"I can't let them die," Bellamy breathed softly, again straining himself to pull on the chains as hard as he could and praying for them to come loose. He repeated those words while he continued to struggle, but it was of no use. He was only making himself tired and frustrated, and tears flooded his eyes as he sunk to the ground in defeat.

It wasn't long before Chancellor Pike realized that there was something wrong, and therefore it was not long before the prisoners and Octavia heard him and his men come barging through the door of the room with guns blazing, quickly noticing that there was no one inside. Their voices were muffled by the floorboards, but it was clear Pike was angry, as there was a sound of breaking glass and a raised tone. In another minute, they heard footsteps retreating from the room. Once Octavia was sure there was no one in the room with them, she lifted the tile slowly and raised her head from the floor, taking a quick sweep around the vicinity.

"All clear," she whispered down to the rest of them, taking her guns up with her onto leveled ground. As the prisoners were all still shackled, they did their best to quickly make their way up through the hole one by one. Kane rolled out onto the floor, sighing.

"It's a little bit tight in there."

Octavia knelt down before him to unlock his shackles, staring up with a sharp glare. "Try doing it for sixteen years."

She didn't wait for his response, but instead went around and unlocked the shackles for the rest of them. As she did, Abby rushed through the corridor and into the room, straight to help Kane take off his ankle chains. He looked up at her with a frown.

"I told you not to do this."

"Why would I start listening to you now?"

Alessia watched with hesitant confusion as a small smile came across Kane's lips—a smile she had never seen before. Her wrists slowed on the shackles at her ankles, but in a moment she brushed the thought to the back of her mind and continued taking the chains off as quickly as she could. Just as she set the chains aside, Miller came in and Octavia tossed the rifles at him before her radio beeped in her pocket.

"OKS, come in."

Lincoln looked up at her with an eyebrow raised. "What is it?"

"This wasn't the plan. We use their frequency so they could hear us," Octavia muttered. In a louder voice, she said into the talkie, "Go ahead."

"Stay where you are. Repeat, stay where you are. The exit is not clear."

Alessia looked around, where Sinclair, Lincoln, Kane, and Abby all shared her fears. Octavia took a slow breath as she responded.

"How many guards?"

"Too many! I said stay put."

A moment passed where Alessia could see the panic flash across Octavia's eyes, but in the next moment everything changed. Another beep came across the radio, and it was another's voice on the other end of the line in a hurried tone.

"Calling all guards. The prisoners are headed for the main gate. The prisoners are headed for the main gate. Over!"

"That was Monty," Octavia recalled to the group as Alessia stood up from one of the beds in the room. Sinclair stood next to her, giving a nod to Octavia.

"Guess he's with us after all," Miller noted. Kane stiffened.

"Pike will find out."

"We don't know that," Abby whispered.

"But what if they execute Monty instead—" Alessia interjected, but Abby shook her head firmly.

"Like I said, we don't know that. What we do know is that we have to move." Without waiting for any approval, Abby headed out of the door with the expectation that the rest would follow her. Alessia realized very suddenly that there wasn't much of a choice—any second, Pike could catch them and execute them for real. Time was running out for them.

So she followed her father out the door, feeling Miller behind her with a rifle hot in his hand. How ironic, she thought, since she was the one who trained him in the first place.

They followed Octavia and Abby down the corridors quietly, luckily avoiding all guards as Monty had led them astray to the front gate with his message. When they came to their exit (the same place Octavia had snuck Alessia in when they were trying to get Bellamy on their side), Harper was waiting with the door open and ready to sneak the prisoners out with supplies. Overhead, they heard through the speakers that the camp was being put on lockdown due to their escape. It didn't make much of a difference, seeing as their exit would put them outside of camp grounds, but it meant that they were cutting it close.

Octavia and Alessia were stationed at one end of the partitioned corridor, secretly peering out through the red curtain to see if there were any guards passing by. With the lockdown in place, there was not a soul in sight, but there were bound to be some soon.

"Bellamy's chained up in a cave," Octavia whispered under her breath to Alessia beside her. The brunette teenager shrugged.

"Good."

"I just thought you should know."

"Yeah, probably best."

"He claimed he wanted to help me save you," Octavia mentioned slowly, sounding unsure of whether or not she wanted to say anything. She eyed Alessia carefully to gage her reaction while still maintaining her focus on watching the corridor. "I don't believe him."

"Neither do I."

"Then we're in agreement?"

"Uh huh." Alessia turned back from the partition to find Abby walking out the other direction, back into the corridor of the Ark. Octavia followed beside her. Alessia was confused why Abby wasn't joining them, but she didn't really have much time to ask. Just as they reached Kane, a beep came over on the radio. Octavia pulled it out and held it up for them all to listen.

"I have a message for the traitors in this camp." It was Pike's voice. "There will be an execution today. Either turn yourselves in, or the other Grounder prisoners will die in your place."

A look of panic flashed across Octavia's features as Lincoln looked up at her, his guilt written all over his face. It was almost as if she knew exactly what he was going to do, as she grabbed his arm forcefully and tried to shove him towards the exit.

"Let's go."

But Lincoln walked right past her, towards the red partition to exit the corridor. Octavia whipped around and grabbed his arm, spinning him back to her.

"No, wait!"

"I can't let them die because of me."

"Lincoln, please. We're almost out!"

Alessia could hear the fear in Octavia's voice. But from the look on Lincoln's face, Alessia wasn't so sure there was anything Octavia could do to change his mind. She thought back to the very first time The Hundred encountered Lincoln. He was protective of Octavia and he didn't even know her. Yet he trusted her blindly, and even nearly laid down his life to protect his people before giving into Bellamy's cruelty.

Kane stepped forward cautiously. "I know what you're feeling, but they're searching the station. We need to go, now."

Lincoln nodded slowly. "You should."

"Fine. I'm going with you." Octavia then told him that they would fight together. Alessia wanted to say something, but she had felt before what Lincoln had felt. Responsibility for his people. If they died, he wouldn't be able to live with himself. She had felt the same thing when Mount Weather happened—that's why it had been so easy for her to pull the trigger on Dante.

Lincoln was much nobler than she was, though, because she took a life to save her people. He was risking his own life to save theirs.

Lincoln stepped forward and cupped his hand around Octavia's face. She could see the resolution in his eyes, and tears began to water in her ducts. Alessia dropped her eyes to the ground, thinking that this was not how it should end. Someone, someone should get their happy ending.

"I love you," Lincoln whispered before leaning down to kiss her. She kissed him back, and because of the distraction, he found it painstakingly simple to take one of her needles and thrust it into her neck softly. A soft sigh of protest escaped Octavia's mouth, but the drugs took over before she could say much more. Her body went limp within a moment, but Lincoln picked her up in his arms before she fell unconscious. Kane's eyes widened as he turned to Lincoln.

"What are you doing?"

"What he has to," Alessia muttered, both of the men before her turning to look at her. Alessia nodded to him. "It's the same thing we'd do for our people."

Lincoln nodded back firmly, an unspoken agreement between them both. He glanced back down at Octavia before whispering to Kane and handing the unconscious girl over, "Just get her out of here."

Kane took Octavia's limp body with only a slight hesitation, and Lincoln grabbed the teenager's hand one last time, hesitant to let it go. Kane nodded to him.

"Ste yuj [Stay strong]."

"You, too."

And just like that, Lincoln backed away slowly, letting his hand take Octavia's with him before the space became too distant and her hand dropped to her side. Alessia could see the tears in Lincoln's eyes as he turned and left the corridor, and just like that he was gone. Kane and Alessia turned back to each other, but they had no choice. It was now or never.

Still holding Octavia's limp body in his arms, Kane stepped through the open passage and began to walk. Alessia climbed in right behind him, took a deep breath, and sealed the door from the inside. In the distance, she could hear shouts when they caught Lincoln.

They waited for the chaos to clear before they were able to start making a move to leave Arkadia. Kane set Octavia over the back of her horse and led the steed through the bushes as they made their journey. It wouldn't be long before Octavia woke, and the sky was thundering above them as if it were about to part.

When Octavia woke, they were far enough away from Arkadia's perimeter, but it was still visible in the distance. Alessia heard a soft moan from Octavia as she muttered Lincoln's name, and then all of a sudden Octavia fell off the horse and stumbled upright, crawling on her hands and needs back towards the bushes to see Arkadia. Alessia followed her, the rain starting to drizzle on top of her head. She reached Octavia and placed an arm on her shoulder, trying to get her to move away. This wasn't something she wanted to see, and they could see it happening in the distance. Nevertheless, the persistent teenager was strong in her stance, and Alessia was too afraid to move her.

They could see Lincoln on his knees before the armed Arkadia guard, Chancellor Pike standing a few feet in front of him. The rain came down faster, and Alessia could feel Octavia's body start to shake as the tears flooded across her cheeks in time with the rain. Pike circled the faithful Grounder, until he stopped perpendicular to the man and raised a gun to his head. Alessia's grip tightened on Octavia's shoulder.

And then there was the sound of the shot, loud and distinct even from afar. The rain started to pour faster as Lincoln's body dropped, falling in the puddle beside him.

A soft protest came from Octavia's mouth, as if it were the last breath she was taking. Her body trembled, but in moments Alessia could feel the girl beside her stiffen, as if her skin had hardened instantaneously.

Just like that, nothing mattered more to Octavia Blake than revenge.

Honestly did not realize it has been almost a year since I've updated this. Where has the time gone?! I will say that this chapter has been in the works since I updated last, but with my crazy schedule I never got around to finishing it. So sorry, please forgive me, guys! Hope this was worth the wait. Can't promise anything, but hopefully the next chapter will be out sooner.

Thanks for reading! Please review :)

ThatGirl54: I know, it's been a really emotional couple of chapters! The next episode is going to be emotional too, I'm not going to lie. Season 3 in general is just kind of all over the place, haha. Thanks so much for your review!

kblatz: Thank you so much! That's really good to hear, I really try to make Alessia distinct from the other characters and give her her own storyline to go on. We'll see her develop in her own way in the next couple chapters, as she's kind of stuck on this Bellamy thing for the moment but not for long. Here's the update, hope you like it!

Guest: Thank you!

malfoyslut: Aw don't cry! I don't know about Bellamy and Alessia either, tbh. I think they need a break from each other to figure out who they are, because they've gone so far since the first day on the drop ship. Thank you so much! Hope you enjoyed the chapter, sorry for the wait.

LoveFiction2019: Thank you!

SamanthaxoxH: Yeah I think you're right, she definitely needs to take a time out and figure out who she is and what she's doing before she jumps back into anything with Bellamy. Haha that's amazing to hear (tbh, I feel the same way...it's so weird watching the show and not seeing Alessia in there)! Thanks so much for your review and hope you liked the chapter :)

SamanthaxoxH: No worries!

GraceTM86: Aw thanks so much! Hope you enjoyed the chapter, sorry for the wait!

SamanthaxoxH: She definitely wasn't the most likeable in Season 2, but that was kind of my angle! I wanted to mess with her a little bit, because with Calix being back it kind of brought back her old, bratty self and that's why she was so demanding and refused to choose between Bellamy and Calix and tried to control the situation with Bellamy and Mount Weather. But I think it was important for her to go through that so she could change, which she did after the last episode. I like her in Season 3, too, I think she's going to become more essential in the next few chapters now that she's realized she wants a break from Bellamy and might step up to the plate a bit more. No worries thanks for reviewing!

SamanthaxoxH: I miss Calix, too! He'll be making an appearance towards the end of this season :)

TheShield: Thank you! Here's the update :)

TheWiseQueen: Thank you so much! That means so much to me, sorry for the wait but I hope you enjoyed this chapter!

GuestCat: Thank you!

Hellaquinn58: I'm writing this response to your review almost a year later, I'm so sorry it took me so long to update! Bellamy definitely screwed the pooch here, but maybe he'll find a way to make up for it later. Me too!

Darsella: Calix being alive was one of my major plot twists, I kinda loved it haha. It definitely was a good love triangle!

Darsella: 36 chapters in one day?! Ahh! Thanks for your commitment to this story, that's amazing. Haha, I will give it to you, it can be really hard sometimes and I will admit they have a pretty toxic relationship (at this point though, what relationship on CW shows AREN'T toxic, you know?). I wouldn't forgive him either, though. We'll see towards the end of this season how they're going to go on, their relationship is definitely not easy but Bellamy seems pretty determined to get her back. Rant any time :) Sorry for the wait on this update but I hope you enjoyed it!
