I really wish Alma had been in the second movie. I love her and I love Dylan and the more I watch the movie, the more I want to explore their relationship. So you get little bits like this.

Smile

It was one of the simplest tricks in the book, but the genuine joy on her face when she performed it correctly broke even him. Try as he might, he couldn't help but grin, not at the trick, but at her excitement. Special Agent Dylan Rhodes despised magic and thought it a waste of time, an exploitation best squashed. Dylan Shrike, however, loved magic not for the performance, but for the feelings it evoked. Whether it be joy and happiness like Alma resonated, the shock and awe brought by the Horsemen's shows, or the fury and indignation Tressler would be feeling shortly, the emotions evoked because of magic were unlike any brought elsewhere.

"That smile on your face, is it real?"

"Maybe."

Dylan studied the woman in the seat beside him as he lifted his drink. Alma returned to the pack of cards and he smiled. It was a simple trick that he himself had performed many many times before, but the smile on her face only strengthened his belief in what he was orchestrating. Magic had made him who he was, and it was for smiles like the one on her face that he would return to magic. But there was still awhile to go before he could return to who he truly was, so he took a drink and wiped the smile from his face. They would be in New Orleans soon enough.
