Always Getting Over You:

Into The Wild:

3rd Person POV:

Rhea Mikaelson looked around the parlour of the Salvatore Boarding house as she sat down next to her boyfriend on the couch and sighed impatiently as Stefan wrapped his arm around her shoulder in an effort to calm her down. The honey haired Original had been an anxious mess since the night before when Jeremy's hunter mark had been revealed because she wanted to get Shane and leave for the hidden island off the coast of the Nova Scotia mainland. Elena glanced at the couple on the couch as she paced across the length of the parlour and shook her head at them as she bit down on the corner of her lower lip.

"Everything ready, Bonnie?" Stefan asked the young dark skinned witch across the room as he rubbed his hand up and down Rhea's arm to keep her calm and Bonnie looked up from the grimore she had received the night before with a small smile on her lips.

"I'm ready." Bonnie stated confidently as she nodded her head once at him and then closed her eyes as she held her palms up as she began mumbling under her breath in Latin. Jeremy watched with a small smile from his spot on the opposite couch as Bonnie performed the spell and Rhea crossed her ankles with a sigh as she leaned her head on Stefan's shoulder. Bonnie froze for a moment as she stopped speaking in Latin and slowly blinked open her olive coloured eyes as stumbled back a little. Jeremy jumped up from his spot on the couch as he frowned in concern and placed his hands on the witch's waist to stop her from falling off from exhaustion.

"The spell is a tricky one but Bonnie's strong, she'll be okay, the spell will work." Rhea assured them as she cast a concerned look at the witch that Jeremy was leading over to the couch he had been sitting on and watched as he sat her down carefully.

"What if it doesn't?" Jeremy asked her in a worried voice as he sat down next to Bonnie with his arm around her shoulder and she leaned into his embrace as she smiled weakly at the other in reassurance.

"Where's that Gilbert optimism?" a male voice asked from the doorway to the basement as everyone turned to see the eldest Salvatore brother standing there with a smirk on his handsome face and Elena gasped in delight as she walked quickly over to him with a smile gracing her lips. "Hi. Sorry I missed all the excitement."

"I'm just happy to see you." Elena told him honestly as she wrapped her arms around his torso and leaned her head on his shoulder as he tightened his hold on her thin waist.

"Oh, yes, it just brightens all of ours day." Rhea muttered sarcastically under her breath as she rolled her oak brown eyes at the reuniting couple and Jeremy laughed out loud as Elena turned her head to glare at her for her comment.

"Play nice." Stefan whispered in her ear as he shook his voice in amusement and she pouted as she leaned back into him without saying anything else.

"Looks like I didn't miss much." Rebekah mused loudly as she entered the parlour with a large stone in her arms and Rhea's pretty face immediately brightened as she jumped up from her spot on the couch. "Got the Silas headstone."

"Let's go meet up with Professor Shane." Rhea said excitedly as she grinned widely and grabbed Stefan's hand to drag him to his feet before practically skipping over to her twin sister's side. "I call shotgun in the boat!"

Rhea POV:

The boat rocked on the waves as we all carefully climbed out and looked around at the abandoned beach off the coast of Nova Scotia that we had stopped at only moments before. Professor Shane grabbed his backpack from the stern as he stared at the forest beyond the beach with a look of pure wonder.

"Congratulations. We made it." I heard him mutter under his breath to himself as he turned in a small circle and I quirked an eyebrow at his words but continued to unpack the bags that were in the boat. I glanced up at Rebekah with a curious expression on my face as she looked at me with a matching one hers and I smirked at how similar we were but at the same time at how different. I looked around at Bonnie, Jeremy, Damon, Elena and Stefan and saw varying degrees of uncertainty as they unloaded the boat.

"You know, you're not really helping." Stefan said pointedly as he tied a piece of rope into a knot and I looked up in confusion but saw that his green eyes were focused on Rebekah instead of me so I turned my head around to see the blonde glaring at Elena as the doppelgänger walking towards us.

"You're perfectly capable of tying a knot." Rebekah quipped in a hard voice as she narrowed her cerulean blue eyes at the brunette and Stefan rolled his eyes at her as I chuckled in amusement while walking over to my boyfriend.

"You giving Elena the evil eye, it's not really helping." I clarified for her as I sat down on a large rock next to Stefan and Rebekah spared me a unimpressed look before going back to glaring at Elena as she walked past us carrying a backpack from the boat.

"She killed our brother; put a dagger in my back; tried to kill all of us. She's lucky all she's getting is the evil eye." She told me harshly as she crossed her arms over her chest with a huff and I rolled my eyes at her as I leaned back on my hands.

"You know I can hear you, right?" Elena asked her mockingly as she turned her head to in our direction with a frown and Rebekah gave her a tight smile as she flipped her long blonde hair over her shoulder.

"You know I don't care, right?" Rebekah retorted sarcastically as she tilted her head to the side and Elena stopped walking as she stared murderously at my sister for a second before using her vampire speed towards us. I stood up quickly when I saw that Elena had her hands around Rebekah's throat and the last remaining white oak stake that I thought had been hidden by Niklaus after Alaric had died pointed right at her heart. I used my Original vampire speed to rush over to them and grabbed on to the doppelgängers shoulder as I threw her off of my twin sister with superior strength. Elena cried out in shock as she flew through the air until she crashed into a large rock on the other side of the beach and I smirked in satisfaction when I heard the familiar sound of bones breaking.

"Careful, sweetheart, you might hurt yourself." I called out to her in a fake concerned voice as I placed a hand on my hip while Rebekah grinned victoriously next to me and Elena groaned in pain as she struggled to lift her head up from the rock. "Thanks for the help." Rebekah said to me with a smirk in my direction as she nodded at Elena's sprawled figure and I smiled back at her as Damon moved to help his girlfriend up from the rock.

"You two are a force to be reckoned with." Stefan muttered in amusement from behind us and I turned my head to smirk at him as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I smiled at him softly as I stood up on my tip toes as pressed my lips against his firmly and he placed his hands on my hips as he kissed me back with equal passion. My lips in sync with his as I kissed him sweetly and I revelled in the same smooth texture that could send my head spinning with just one touch. I pulled back from him slightly so that there was less than an inch of space between our lips as our laboured breaths mixed together and he leaned his forehead against mine as my hands firmly planted themselves on his muscular chest.

"I love you." Stefan whispered to me softly as he caressed my hips gently and I smiled up at him as I brushed my nose against his before kissing him chastely. He grinned down at me crookedly as he moved back in to kiss me once more and I giggled softly as I leaned up but the sound of someone clearing their throat made me freeze.

"There are other people present." Rebekah reminded us tersely when we turned to look at her pointedly for interrupting us and I scrunched my nose up in annoyance as Stefan chuckled softly against the side of my head.

"Come on. We gotta get going." Professor Shane called out loudly from the other side of the beach and I grinned excitedly as I clapped my hands in front of me while Rebekah did the same as me on my other side. We were both extremely excitedly that the cure was in reach because all we had ever wanted was to be human and have doting handsome, beloved children and each other.

"Let's go." Stefan whispered in my ear with a grin as he grabbed one of my hands before starting to lead me towards where everyone else was gathering and I practically skipped besides him as we approached the group. Elena glowered at me and Rebekah as she clung to Damon's side but I was too happy to pay her much attention and bounced on my heels as Shane began leading us all into the forest. Rebekah linked her arm with mine on the side that Stefan wasn't on as we entered the trees and I glanced around the darkened forest with a grimace as I tightened my hold on Stefan's hand.

"Is anyone else a little creeped out?" Elena asked out loud after nearly an hour of hiking through the forest as she looked around with a frown and I rolled my eyes at her as I stepped over a branch in the middle of the path.

"So then leave. Out of everyone, your presence is the least necessary." Rebekah stated calmly as she sent a sarcastic smile in the doppelgänger and I groaned in annoyance as I shook my head at my sister.

"Please don't start." I begged the blonde next to me pleadingly as I pouted at her and she glanced at me for the corner of her eye as she walked in front of me.

"I'm merely stating the facts. Jeremy has the spell on his body. Bonnie is the witch that unseals the cure. Shane is the human compass. You, Stefan and I have the tombstone, which does god knows what. And Elena has no point." She said innocently as she easily avoided the slap I aimed at her arm in reprimand and I shook my head at her as she smiled back at me playfully.

"What about me?" Damon asked her loudly from the front of the group as he looked back at us with a mixture of curiosity and irritation on his handsome face and I saw Elena shoot her boyfriend an annoyed look behind his back.

"You have a nice behind." Rebekah answered instantly without a second thought as she shrugged her shoulders delicately and Damon smirked at her as though that was an acceptable way to be useful. I laughed in amusement as Stefan smiled at his older brother and Damon winked at us before turning back to the front so that he could see where we were going.

"This is so boring." I complained quietly under my breath as we continued walking through the darkened forest and Professor Shane looked over his shoulder at me with a small smile from the front of the group.

"I can tell you about the island?" he suggested with a manic glint in his eye as he shrugged his shoulder and I nodded in agreement as Stefan helped me over a log that had fallen in the middle of the beaten path. "Centuries after Qetsiyah died, there were these miners who were excavating a well on the island. Suddenly went mad. They bled themselves dry. No apparent reason. So, the legend spread that these miners, in exchange for a drop of their blood, saw visions of their lost loved ones in the well they were digging. The word travelled and explorers sought out the well to see if the legend was true."

"So, the well was magic?" Bonnie asked curiously as she looked up at the man with a slightly awed expression on her face and I glanced at her in concern because I knew that Shane had been teaching her about Expression.

"Well, you know, some people believe the voices of lost souls were just a wind vortex whipping through the caves, and visions were caused by inhaling the island's poisonous plant life." Shane said calmly as he pushed an overgrown fern out of the way before continuing on the hike and everyone listened intently to his story as we walked.

"And what do you believe?" Elena asked him with a slightly mocking tone in her voice as she looked at him in suspicion and I shoot her a glare because he was our only hope of finding where the cure was hidden so I didn't want her making him angry with her tone.

"I believe in magic. My wife and my son died within months of each other. And so... I decided to try the well out for myself. I offered up my blood and I waited. I saw my wife. I saw her eyes, her smile. My blood let me see her again."

"Yeah, got it. Don't eat the poisonous flowers." Damon commented with a roll of his electric blue eyes as he shoved pass the professor and Shane huffed out a little as he shook his head at the arrogant vampire before trailing after him.

"Wait. Stop. Stop! Stop." Shane called out loudly suddenly as he stopped at the top of a hill and everyone paused in surprise as they looked around for a potential threat. The professor bent down slowly as he picked up a medium sized rock before standing back up and throwing the rock at a tree that made a net drop form its branches onto the ground. "Is everybody paying attention? Our first lesson in survival. Stay together. Keep your eyes open."

"Ugh, I'm out of water." Jeremy muttered to himself from the middle of the group as he looked at his empty plastic bottle with a scowl and Elena came to a stop next to her brother as she smiled slightly at him. I leaned against a tree with my arms over my chest as Rebekah sighed dramatically in impatience and Stefan stood beside me while Bonnie talked quietly with Shane and Damon at the top of the hill.

"Here. Take mine." The doppelgänger offered him as she pulled her own bottle out of her backpack and held it out for him as he grinned at her with a nod.

"A magic well? Seriously?" he asked her curiously as he undid the lid to the bottle and took a sip of the water as we all listened to their conversation unabashed.

"I don't know. I mean... We've all lost someone. The chance to maybe see them again? I kinda get it."

"Please. Seeing someone you've lost would only make it harder when they're gone again." I told them sadly as I closed my eyes tightly when Stefan gently touched my waist and I knew that he could tell that I was speaking about both Henrick and Alexia.

"Jeremy!" I heard Elena cried out in a panic as a branch cracked somewhere in the distance and my eyes flew open to see a man with tribal paint on his face aiming an arrow at the young hunter's face. I quickly used my Original vampire speed to push him out of the way just as the man shot the arrow and I gasped in pain when the wooden arrow pierced my side. Jeremy rolled on to his knees with a frown across from me as I collapsed with a groan and I winced as I glanced in the direction the man was standing but all I saw was a corpse with a hatchet in his back.

"What the hell just happened?" Rebekah asked in shock as she ran to my side and I grunted in agony as I tried to reach the wooden arrow in my side. My whole side was aching with pain as the stinging increased and I pressed my lips together to stop from screaming out.

"Rhea just saved my life." Jeremy stated with a grin as he came to my other side and I smiled at him tightly as I gave up trying to reach the arrow in my side.

"And I'd gladly do it again but can someone please, for the love of god, take this bloody arrow out of me?!" I asked them all in a yell as I sat up straight and everyone immediately came to my side as they muttered apologises to me. Stefan crouched down next to me with a comforting smile as he wrapped his hand around the wooden shaft of the arrow and I nodded once tersely as he pulled the arrow out of my side. "Ah!"

"Sorry, sorry." Stefan uttered under his breath as he threw the broken arrow away from us and I breathed a sigh of relief as I leaned back into my boyfriend's embrace.

"Who killed that guy?" I asked in a tired voice as I nodded towards the dead man that had shot me and I closed my eyes for a second as my muscles and skin knitted back together.

"We don't know. No one saw." Damon answered me in an annoyed tone of voice as I opened my eyes again with a frown of confusion and the elder Salvatore shrugged his shoulders at my questioning look.

"Oh, god. I need a blood bag." I complained playfully with a moan as I buried my head into the crook of Stefan's neck and he chuckled lightly at me as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.

"Here." I heard Jeremy say to me softly as I felt him crouch down next to me and I looked up at him in confusion to see him holding his arm out to me with an easy smile on his handsome face. Elena gasped from behind him at the implication as I shook my head at him with a small smile on my face and I pulled myself to my feet as Stefan steadied me by keeping his hands on my hips.

"I'm fine, Jeremy, but thank you." I told him politely as I cupped his face with my hand with a smile and he nodded in understanding as he pulled me into a tight hug. I wrapped my arms around him in return as he squeezed my waist and when he pulled back I smiled at him warmly. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine thanks to you. Thank you for saving me." he said sincerely as he pressed a chaste kiss to my cheek and I nodded at him with a smile as I stepped back stand next to Stefan.

"My pleasure, honey." I replied easily with a shrug of my shoulders as though it was nothing and he sent me a half smile as Shane cleared his throat at the top of the hill. Everyone turned to look at him as he sent us a slightly embarrassed smile and I quirked an eyebrow at him as everyone picked up their backpacks.

"We're nearly there." Shane informed us calmly as he pointed his thumb over his shoulder and we all nodded at him in understanding as we began walking down the path. Stefan wrapped his arm around my shoulder as we followed after everyone and I leaned my head on his shoulder with a content sigh.

"What is this place?" Stefan asked out loud as we arrived at a clearing in the middle of the woods and I raised my eyebrows as I looked around the deserted camp set up.

"According to island lore, a group of college kids came here for spring break. A few weeks later, they were all found dead, completely drained of blood." Shane explained to us solemnly as he set his backpack on the ground at his feet and Rebekah placed her hand on her hip as she pursed her lips thoughtfully.

"Well, tragic for them, brilliant for us. Who sleeps where? Because I want to be nowhere near Rhea and Stefan. Especially after a near death experience." Rebekah quipped with a smirk as she looked at the two of us slyly and I gaped at her for a moment as I reached out to slap her arm.

"Rebekah!" I scolded her sternly as everyone stared at the three of us with varying expressions and I groaned in embarrassment as I buried my head in Stefan's chest.

Later that night, I came out of the tent that Stefan and I were sharing for the night with a small smile when I saw Rebekah speaking with Damon on the other side of the clearing and I smirked when I noticed Rebekah glance in Elena's direction so I knew that she was only doing it to annoy the doppelgänger.

I saw Stefan sitting by the campfire with the Silas headstone in his hands while looking into the flames pensively and I smiled a little as I slowly made my way over to where he was sitting. My boyfriend looked up at me with a smile when I placed a hand on his shoulder and I sunk down on to the log next to him as I sighed contently.

"Well, eight of us and no one thought to bring s'mores. What are you doing with that?" I asked him curiously with a frown as I nodded my head at the headstone in his hand and he lifted an eyebrow at me as he placed the stone down on the ground at our feet.

"We're a day away from finding the cure. I'm not letting it out of my sight." He told me as though the answer was obvious and I shook my head at him with a small laugh as I straddled the log. The fire in front of us crackled loudly as the sound of animals screaming in the distance echoed throughout the night and I jumped in surprise as I grabbed onto Stefan's arm tightly.

"Did you hear that? I swear this place is haunted." I muttered quietly as I glanced around the clearing with a frown and Stefan placed his hand on top of mine as he squeezed it reassuringly.

"Um... you're crushing my arm." He said softly as he tried to pry my hand from his forearm and I looked down at my hand in shock at my own action as I grimaced at him.

"Okay. You got me. I'm a scaredy cat." I admitted with a laugh as I let go of his arm and he smiled at me as he moved closer to me on the log.

"You do realize you're an Original vampire, right?" he asked me in amusement as he placed his hand on my thigh and I quirked an eyebrow at him as I leaned forward a little.

"Which is precisely why you should stop teasing me. I'm very powerful." I teased him with a coy smile as I placed my hand on top of his on my thigh and moved forward on the log so that my knee knocked against his leg. A crooked smile brightened his handsome face as he laughed at me and my breath caught in my thought at how much I loved him. Everything about him made my heart ache with such adoration that it physically hurt me and nothing made me happier than being with him. "Stefan, you said that you'd take the cure to be with ne. You'd have children and grow old. Is that still true?"

"Is that what you want?" he asked me quietly after a moment of silence as he looked me right in the eye and I swallowed nervously as I ducked my head while tucking a strand behind my ear.

"Isn't it obvious? It's all an act, Stefan. Being a vampire is miserable. I would give anything to be human. Normal. Maybe get my magic back. Being connected to the earth is an amazing feeling. I want to have kids with someone who loves me enough to stand outside my window with a stupid boom box. I want to be human. But, I don't want you to do anything that you don't want to do. I love you, Stefan. I would love to marry you, have kids with you, die with you. But it has to be your choice."

"If I take the cure... it wouldn't be for you. It'd be for me." Stefan assured me softly as he nodded his head at me and I nodded back at him with a small smile as I looked away from him.

The next morning, we all woke up to find that Jeremy was missing from the campsite and Elena was in major panic mode as we all searched the surrounding area for the missing hunter. We were all spread out around the clearing looking the missing human as Elena started to panic more and more by the second.

"Jeremy!" I called out to him loudly as I walked back into the clearing from just having searched in the surrounding forest area and saw that Elena was speaking to Bonnie on the other side of the campsite so I started on my way over to them.

"Did you find anything?" Elena asked the witch in concern as she ran a hand through her long brunette hair and I stopped next to them as Bonnie shook her head with a frown on her lips.

"He's not on the trail and his gear's still here." Bonnie told us both as she wringed her hands in front of her nervously and I smiled at her in sympathy because I knew that she must have had some lingering feeling for Jeremy from when they dated.

"He's not at the quarry, either." Stefan informed us loudly from the other side of the clearing as he entered it with Rebekah and made their way over to us with frowns on their faces.

"You should split up. I'm gonna stay and try a locator spell." The witch suggested as she nibbled on the corner of her lower lip and I nodded in agreement as Shane walked over to stand next to Bonnie.

"Okay. I'll stay here. I'll make sure she's safe." The professor offered to us as he smiled slightly at the witch and Damon stepped forward protectively as he crossed his arms over his chest with a smirk on his handsome face.

"I'll stay here and make sure you're not lying." Damon said pointedly as he glared at the other man and Elena sighed as she looked over at me, Stefan and Rebekah with a glare.

"Fine. We'll keep searching the island." Elena said reluctantly as she glanced at her brother with a sigh and I shared a smirk with Rebekah as we linked arms before turning our heels towards the edge of the forest. I heard Stefan sighed tiredly as he began walking after us with Elena and quickly caught up with us as we entered the forest to look for Jeremy.

"Jeremy! Jeremy!" Elena shouted loudly as she pushed her way pass us so that I stumbled into Rebekah's side and I scoffed at her back as she walked in front of us determinedly.

"Why don't you yell louder? Maybe we haven't drawn enough attention to ourselves already." Rebekah muttered sarcastically as she rolled her cerulean blue eyes at the brunette and Elena turned her head to glare at my sister heatedly.

"I'm sorry, and how are you helping?" the doppelgänger asked her sceptically as she faced the front again and Stefan gripped my hand as he pulled me away from Rebekah so that I wasn't going to be in the middle of a catfight.

"I'm stronger than you and faster than you and I'm quite certain I can charm the islanders a lot easier than you."

"Not disagreeing on the easy part." Elena quipped easily as she stepped over a log in the middle of the path and I pressed my lips together to stop from laughing at the insult even as my sister scowled at the back of her head.

"All right, we get it. You two hate each other. Can we just keep going, please?" I asked them desperately as I gave Rebekah a small push on the shoulder to keep to moving and she rolled her eyes at me as she continued to walk.

"I tried to be her friend, but somehow, I ended up with a dagger in my back because I'm the evil one." My sister said distastefully as she linked her arm back through mine and shot a frown at Elena's back.

"Technically, you didn't achieve evil status until you killed me." The brunette informed her pointedly as she turned around to narrow her eyes at Rebekah and I rolled my eyes at her as I sighed melodramatically.

"Oh, get over it already, Elena. You're a vampire, you're getting the cure. It all worked out in the end. Trust me, sweetheart, running you off that bridge was nothing compared to what we have down in the past." I told her honestly as I shrugged my shoulders delicately and Elena stared at me for a moment as she silently judged me with her dark brown eyes. Without another word she turned away from us and began walking down the path until she stepped onto a tripwire. A spear came flying out of nowhere straight at Elena's chest but Rebekah used her Original vampire speed to push the doppelgänger out of the way before it could impale her and the wooden shaft lodged itself in a nearby tree trunk.

"Nice catch." Stefan complimented my sister in an impressed tone of voice as I nodded in agreement and Elena tried to catch her breath as she glanced at Rebekah in appreciation.

"Thank you. This thing would've killed me." Elena said to the blonde next to her as she gestured towards the spear and Rebekah glanced over her shoulder at it for a moment before looking back at the brunette.

"I don't care what happens to you either way. But if you're gonna die, it might as well be epic." Rebekah explained nonchalantly as she stepped backwards and I rolled my eyes at her answer as I leaned against Stefan's side.

"I'm gonna go back and check on Bonnie, see if she found anything. Be careful." Elena said to us all as she started walking back the way that we had come from and I sighed slightly in frustration as the remaining three of us began following the path.

"Haven't we been through here before?" Stefan asked us sometime later when we passed a familiar looking tree and I shrugged my shoulders noncommittally as I looked over in the direction he pointed in.

"It all looks the same to me." Rebekah and I told him in unison as we both glanced at each other before bursting into a fit of giggles because it still amused us every time that happened and Stefan rolled his forest green eyes at us with a small smile.

"Did you mean what you said? About a cease-fire?" I asked Rebekah curiously as she turned around to walk backwards while facing us and I frowned at her in concern because I knew that there were hidden traps spread out over the island.

"Why do you all assume that I hate Elena so much?"

"Well, I mean, you did run her off a bridge." Stefan pointed out with a shrug of his shoulder as though that was the evidence and I quirked an eyebrow at my sister as she sighed before turning back around to walk forwards on the trail.

"You all seem to forget that Elena's death was the only way to save my family. Our family. I did the same thing that every one of you would've done to protect the people that you love. And before you cast me as the bad guy, maybe you should remember that Elena's helped to kill one of our brothers." Rebekah reminded us softly as she entered the clearing that we had all stayed in the night before and I hummed in acknowledgement to her explanation as she tossed her hair over her shoulder. "Where is everyone?"

"What are you talking about?" I asked her tiredly as I sighed because all I really wanted to do was sleep but I knew that I wouldn't be with Jeremy still missing from the group and I really didn't want to deal with one of Rebekah's hissy fits.

"Well, Bonnie's not here and Shane's stuff is all gone." My sister informed us as she looked around the campsite and I felt my eyes widen as I ran to her side before glancing around the abandoned clearing.

"Oh my god." I whispered in a panic as realisation hit me and I used my Original vampire speed to race into my tent before kneeling down to search through all the bags in the tent. I knew that both Stefan and Rebekah had followed me into our tent and I turned to look at their hopeful faces with a distressed expression on mine. "The tombstone's gone."

"Elena…" Rebekah hissed angrily as she ran out of the tent and I sighed heavily as I got up to follow her before she could kill everyone she sees. Stefan grabbed my hand in his as we both walked over to Elena's tent and saw my sister rifling through all the bags with a panicked look in her cerulean blue eyes as she breathed heavily. I chewed on my thumbnail nervously as I watched Rebekah tear through the bags desperately and Stefan wrapped his arm around my waist to silently let me know that he was there for me.

"What are you doing in my tent?" Elena asked us from behind as Rebekah stood up from the floor and at the sound of the doppelgänger's voice she sped over to grab her by the throat so that she was struggling to breath.

"Where's the tombstone? What have you done with it?"

"What are you talking about?" the brunette asked her in a strained voice as she tried to pry Rebekah's fingers from her throat and I narrowed my eyes at her as I stepped forward next to my sister.

"Like it's not bloody obvious? All you people ever do is betray us and here you go again!" I snapped angrily as Rebekah tightened her grip on Elena's throat and Stefan sighed at us as he took a few steps towards us.

"Let her go. She didn't take it." Stefan told us resolutely as he glanced at Elena to make sure she was okay and Rebekah scoffed as she released her hold on the brunette's throat.

"Why should we believe her? I don't trust anyone at the moment, Stefan. Not even you. Maybe you teamed up with you brother to get the cure for Elena. Is Jeremy really missing? Or was it just a ploy to distract us while Shane ran off with the tombstone?" Rebekah asked in a rush as she ran a hand through her long blonde hair and stared at him with a suspicious glint in her eyes as she narrowed them.

"You think I would do that? You think I would let some psychopath run off with the cure? Every single moment of my last 146 years has been ruled by the pain of being a vampire." Stefan told her seriously as he looked her straight in the eyes and Elena snapped her head around to look at him with a slightly loving look as I glared at her because she sure wasn't acting like his brother girlfriend at the moment. "And this cure ends that. It ends the guilt and it ends the suffering. This cure gives me chance of having a family with the girl I love. And you really think I would jeopardize that?"

"Fine. You didn't take it. But that doesn't mean we trust her." I stated firmly as I glanced at Elena distrustfully and Rebekah nodded in agreement as I walked over to stand possessively in front of Stefan. Stefan wrapped his arms around my waist as Elena and Rebekah stared at each other unblinkingly for a moment before Elena sighed and bent down to withdraw the last remaining white oak stake that she had tried to stab Rebekah with the day before.

"I didn't take it, but here. Consider this a peace offering." Elena told her as she held out the stake for her to take and I raised an eyebrow in surprise as Rebekah crossed her arms over her chest defiantly.

"Don't you get it, Elena? There is no peace. We're all screwed." My sister spat at her as she scowled at the doppelgänger and Elena nodded in agreement as she thrust her hand out more.

"Exactly, Rebekah. We're screwed. Bonnie's gone. Shane's got the tombstone. Jeremy's missing. Who knows if Damon's coming back. So, us four, right here, this is all we've got. So we're either in this together... or it's over. For all of us."
